I was on accutane twice, and after my second course (which cleared me) I was prescribed Differin to put on any individual spots. Obviously I had none for a few weeks at least, but then after a while I would get what I knew would become a spot, so I put differin on it at night and the next day it was gone. However after about 2 months of this (putting it on individual spots, not all over the face), I began to break out kinda bad and so I went to the dermatologist and he put me on a THIRD course of Accutane.
But Im thinking..was it the Differin that broke me out? I heard about the Initial Breakout on it, and so when I started my third course of accutane, I stopped Differin in case the Initial Breakouts combined into one massive one!!
So really what Im asking is if its possible that the breakout was actually from Differin, and not that my spots were coming back. Bearing in mind the breakout was pretty bad.
And I stopped the 3rd course of Accutane cause of sideeffects after 3 weeks. Do you think its worth going back on the Differin, and looking into antibiotics as an alternative to Accutane?
Thanks.

Hey everyone!
So i just wanted to know if you could give me some of your experiences on Retin A Micro?? I know everyone's reaction to the product varies, but I'd like to see what the average reaction to it is with all you users of the product or formal users. Also, i'm on minocylince, so anyone that did RAM with anitbiotic combo, did you have less breakouts?

hi everyone, for those that are trying/have tried Retin-A (be it micro or just the regular):
-what percentage are you using? (0.05%, 0.1%, etc.)
-how long have you currently been using it?
-when (what week?) did it begin to finally improve? (if it did yet)
-how long are you planning to use it/have used it?
mine is about 80% clear, but i'm wondering how much longer to keep using it - my worst fear is the acne coming back full force after i stop treatment.
i'd love to have answers from as many people as possible, so i can get a little better understanding of this medicine :] & i kindasorta want some reassurance that someone else has been using it for over 13 weeks as well and are still seeing results (not yet all the way clear)
thanks so much!
EDIT: another main reason i'm asking this is because my doctor told me i could stop immediately once the acne was all gone. a bit strange?

What would happen if someone was accidentally ingesting a little bit of Retin-A Micro (i.e. put it on their face and not wash their hands before they eat, etc)? Could it do some of the damaging things attributed to Accutane, since Retin-A is tretinoin and Accutane is isotretinoin?
I ask because I started Retin-A micro in December and have been having abnormal mental problems since around January or February (depression, confusion, mild psychosis/hallucinations), which psych medication isn't helping, and mild chronic headaches also, and I'm wondering if it could be Retin-A Micro. I'm sure I probably do ingest a small amount of it accidentally, and it probably gets used on open wounds pretty regularly since I have a tendency to pick at my acne. I use Retin-a on my face as well as on both arms.

I'm getting pretty desperate, so I am may try some laser treatments (not sure which). Can you not be on Retin-A at the time, I know it makes your skin more sensitve to light (it makes it thinner)?

Hey everyone, I'm new here, I read alot of the boards, but I have never posted. Briefly, I've been through all the treatments, including accutane, none of which have worked, and its taking its toll on me.
So here is my current scenario. I was prescribed Retin-A micro for the first time over the summer, but I did not handle it well. I would actually put on the Retin-A and BP at night, and I did this for about 4 weeks. However, it seemed to create a bunch of small white acne dots under my skin, they completely cover my face. I never had these before that I can remember (I cannot guarantee causation though), normally my acne is extremely cystic. I also began to get acne around my my mouth and under my mouth, where this had never before been a problem. As a result, I gave up on the Retin-A (I know, it was too soon to give up, but I did). At the time, I was also on doxycycline.
About a month ago I was prescribe duac gel, which I use day and night. Yet I still have these white bumps that seems like every day a new one comes to the surface and becomes a nasty zit (I don't pop them). They eventually go away, but new ones come up every day, and the the doxy/ duac seem to have no effect on all these right under the surface white bumps.
My question is if I should try doing the Retin-A again, and maybe rotating it with the Duac. I have a derm appointment in about a month, but I don't know if I can wait that long. I still have plenty of Retin-A to use. My thought is that I gave Duac enough of a course, it was just a medicine I figured I could use during the day. I was thinking that maybe if I started Retin-A and stuck with it, it would bring all those white things out once and for all, and I could finish the course of the IB that I think I didn't actually kick because I gave up on Retin-A so quick. I know the Retin-A was being absorbed when I first took it, because my face would burn easily.
So what do you think? I am very desperate for results, my life is a bit of a mess, and I dunno... I know I should stick with just the duac for a little more, but its tough not seeing any results at all (things seem to be worse?)
Thanks.

ok so i have mild to moderate acne...i occasionally get cysts near my time of the month.
i was put on retin a about a month ago, i havent had much of a difference in breakouts, but i have had a lot of dryness and flaking. it sucks cause i have been trying to use mineral makeup to not clog my pores, but when i apply it i look all flaky and gross! so i have been wanting to exfoliate, but i dont know if i should be...
i also wanted to know if it is ok to use a mask once in a while.
oh and my friend got offered money to use duac and retin a...is this legit? her doctor said she had moderate acne and she has the smoothest skin i have ever seen....like 1 whitehead ever 3 weeks...

I used Differin for a few months, and finally gave up and switched to the CSR. However, I read somewhere that the Differin is not absorbed unless the skin is completely dry- I think that I must have been using it incorrectly because my skin was never irritated or anything from it. I heard that Differin is supposed to unclog pores after a few weeks (but my pores were the reason I stopped using it- they never went away)
So did I just make a huge mistake?
I don't think I can go back because I have been on the CSR for a few days and my skin is rather irritated...but now I'm thinking the reason the Differin was ineffective was my own fault.

I had retin-a micro before and it worked really well. I stopped using it for awhile and I just started about a month ago. I've adjusted to it now but I don't want to have to be using it everyday. I know that retin-a micro and benzoyl peroxide cancel each other out but does anybody know if it would be okay to use benzoyl peroxide like Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, then use retin-a Wednesday, then back to BP Thursday and Friday, and then retin-a again on Saturday? The retin-a is really drying and irritating so I don't want to use it everyday but I know I need to use something on the days I don't use retin-a. Is maybe salicylic acid a better choice?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

My doctor prescribed me Tazorac, Finacea, and Minocycline.
Finacea in the morning, Tazorac at night, and Minocycline twice a day.
I have been doing this for about a month now.
I am wondering if anybody has used these, or does anybody have any comments, or advice for me.
My skin has gotten better, but it gets real good, then i seem to break out again , then it gets good again,
but overall it is a little bit better.
The finacea seems to make my face peel a lot, does anybody else experience this?
thanks

Has anyone (im guessing this only applies to girls) notice breaking out around your upper lip while bleaching the hair (with jolen) while on Differin? I never had any reaction like that before and now i cant wax (not allowed on differin) and bleaching makes me break out. Has anyone had this reaction to it and what have you done?
Even threading makes me break out. Why is hair removal so sensitive to breakouts while on Differin?

are there different qualities of benzoyl persoxide. someone said that a good form of benzoyl is benzaclin. if this is just benzoyl paroxide why is it a prescription medicine. i know you can get higher quantities of benzoyl i.e 2.5% 5% 10%. but do certain brands make a difference.

I had bad acne for a long time, a few years, and eventually, I had to go to a doctor, I couldn't live with it any longer. I get some antibiotics after I tried Proactiv by myself (Didn't do shit, it just hurt like hell with them damn beads, the sulfur mask is a lifesaver, though) and I was disappointed to see absolutely no change whatsoever. I was also on an antibiotic cream, and that, again, did nothing. I finally wanted Accutane after trying that, and I tried a ton of natural things too....none of them worked at all. I didn't get Accutane, but instead, I got what I think of to be the "diluted, cream form" of Accutane.
It's working miracles for me. Sure, I still break out, but I only get about 6 pimples MAX each break out, and the rest are blackheads that come out in just a day or two. My scarring is disappearing, and even though my skin dries, it's going great so far. It's been about 9 weeks, and I do still break out, but it gets better, and each time, it takes longer for me to break out. Lately, it's been the best ever for about a year or two, I'm amazed.
Any thoughts on how long I should stick it out? If it's working, I'll stay on it forever, until my acne just stops completely, but should I stay on it, and not switch to Accutane? I heard something like 12-14 weeks you should stay on it, and if the acne isn't totally clear, then just stop. But I want to stick with it for a LONG time, and then see if it just slowly eliminates my acne, instead of taking the Accutane risk......I don't want the side-effects, or the IB all over again.

I know lots of people are really skeptical about their derm's advice, but my derm put me on Differin at night and BP duriing the day and I'm really pleased with the results 3 weeks in. If your derm suggests Differin and BP I wouldn't say no if I were you guys, just from my experience.
Cheers,

When the new pimples pop up from the IB of Retin-A, would it be okay if I spot treat the areas with a topical antibiotic to bring the pimple down? I've never read about people doing that so I was wondering if it's okay to do..
Thanks!

Hi, I have been fighting acne for a long time now. I aquired some differin gel. I have been using it for a week now and I've broken out pretty bad all over my face in areas where I was clear prior to using differin. I was also wondering how much differin am I suppose to use and am i suppose to work in the differin gently until its almost dry? And if taking doxycycline while using differin would help a lot? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

ok, i've been on tazorac cream .1 for 9 months and my skin is SUPER oily. i've been using it in the morning because switching to night didn't help. i just saw a new derm and she switched me to the gel .1% and wants me to use it at night. my question is this...will i experience another initial breakout? what kind of things should i expect as far as skin texture, breakouts, etc.?
also she has put me on benziq wash (spelling? i'm going off the prescription so sorry if the spelling is messed up). does anyone have any experience with this?

I've been putting differin and clindamycin phosphate lotion on my face each night. I've seen results but was wondering if I'm supposed to be using them together? The prescription only says to use Differin at bedtime and the clindamycin once or twice daily. Would using only differin at night produce better results? Is there any chance that these two medicines will counteract using them at the same time?

i've found myself waking up in the middle of the night about once or twice a week with my back itching/stinging and my traitor hands sockless (i wrap them, stop making fun of me :D).
since my skin is so delicate/thin on the RETIN-A, there is a shallow red indention/mark wherever i scratched. thankfully, the medication makes skin proliferate/shed+grow faster (something like that) so they go away within 4-6 days. however, they burn whenever lotion is put on them and appear very red compared to the rest of my skin. thank gosh it's on my back, not my face!
anyway, does anyone know a little more effective way to keep from scratching during sleeping than wrapping your hands in three layers of socks? it gets a little annoying when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
or, has anyone has shared the same experience?
i enjoy talking to others here, it makes me feel not as outcast/weird and acne-cursed.

I am just wondering if it is normal to not have ANY irritation at all with tazorac? I have been using it for the past two nights now and it hasn't even given a little tingle! I'm scared its the skincare I'm using as i am using both a scar gel and a moisturizer before I put it on! Is this ok?
