Ok, yeah, all Proactiv commercials kind of suck, and this new one seems to come on ALL the time whenever I'm watching tv. A girl is talking about how great Proactiv is, and she makes the statement that Proactiv is the "bestest." Ummmm, bestest isn't a word. Isn't is good, better, best?? Where did she get bestest from?? Maybe I'm wrong or something. I don't have the bestest grammar skills...lol.

So my derm gave me some samples of this CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer. I've never heard of it before. Anyone else use this stuff while on tane? Work well? I might try the stuff. Anyway, they were free samples, and my purpose cleanser is almost gone.

Has anyone ever quit their job because their skin got so bad on Accutane the first few months? Just curious....

Wow, so I'm finally on this stuff! Never thought it would actually happen.
Background: I'm 24/f, and have had mild-moderate acne since I was 14. It wasn't so bad then (I think), but got worse in high school. Tried Proactive during that time which made my skin worse. I have sensitive skin so I have to watch what I use. Got on BCP when I was 17 and just stopped them recently last Oct when I was 23. I'm tired of BCP and don't plan on going back on them after my course. They mess with too many things, and there are many other ways to not get pregnant. I've tried a lot of things in the past for the acne- various antibiotics, topicals like Differin, BCPs, over the counter crap. My first derm visit kinda sucked. The doc came in, barely glanced at my face, and started writing out prescriptions. I was 19 and didn't know a thing about treatments so I just let him go. I never went back to him. So this past Oct after I stopped the BCP, it took about 3-4 months before my skin started to breakout real bad again. I haven't had it this bad since high school, I think. Even starting to breakout on my body again (the BCP cleared that up when I started on it years ago). Since I'm taking classes this semester, I'm back under my parents' insurance. Went to a derm (different one, I'm in a different state now) and after about 5 minutes was prescribed a generic Accutane! I thought I didn't look that bad... but whatever. The nurses and doc were super nice and it really surprised me because I thought I was going to have to fight for the Accutane (I already knew I wanted it before the appt). They asked what I wanted and I told them I had been doing research on Accutane that I thought it would be the best course of treatment for me. They agreed! So.... the doc was way cool. He cracked jokes that the ipledge was stupid and that it's ridiculous that Accutane is so hard to get and that years from now people won't be buying crack on street corners- it'll be Accutane! Heh. He said that Proactive doesn't really work after a few weeks anyway and that the makers know this because he actually knows one of them and they admitted it... SO, I was signed up for the ipledge stuff, given a prescription for some antibiotic that I didn't have to take (they said I needed to buy it though because they had to show the insurance co that I had tried other things before Accutane, since it had been so long since I last tried anything), started my YAZ, and proceeded to wait the month before I was able to go back to the derm for my Accutane prescription (40 mg for the first 2 wks and then they are ramping it up to 80 mg for the rest of the 5 month course). Went back last Monday, got the prescription, and did all the freakin ipledge stuff at the doc's office, and then tried to fill the prescription. Ran into some problems with insurance needing a pre-approval from the doctor's so I had to wait a few more days. FINALLY got my Accutane Friday night! DAY 4 Feeling alright. The first night I took the pill, I got a headache. Not a real bad one- just a dull, throbbing one. Went away the next day. I think my body was just trying to get used to the medicine. I also experienced feeling a bit nauseous, but then I drank a bunch of water and felt better. I'm taking all psych classes right now, so I don't feel that worried about all the scary scary side effects like depression and suicide since I'm studying them. Things always seem less scary when you are informed of the problem, why it can happen, and what treatments are used to combat such things.

I want to give oils a try as a moisturizer, but I have no idea which one to try. I've heard some good and bad things about olive oil, jojoba, emu, and sweet almond oil. I have sensitive skin so I don't know if the natural route is the way to go...
What are everyone's experiences with a specific oil? Good bad? If you have sensitive skin, did you have a reaction or anything? I need advice! |
