Hey guys. I am going to be a lab rat here and get myself the Sublative Rejuvenation treatment.
You can find out more here.
http://www.matrixskin.com/I'll do 3 treatment (whole face) with a complimentary re-firm treatment. for $2500. Quite pricey. But I've heard that it works better than Fraxel.
Thank god they have financing options.
I'll give you updates once I have them. The first treatment is gonna be in late November, and I gotta prepare my skin with hydroquinone serum. (another 100 bucks)
I'll let you know. Hopefully, this is gonna be money well spent.

What has been your experience with spa treatments for scarring/facial redness/uneven skin tone?
Has it worked?
Is anyone considering it?
I had major bumps that are not so major anymore, but now it's like wow my face is completely uneven and there are so many scars.
I am pretty sure they are not red marks.
My dermatologist was pretty sure too.
I have another appointment in 5 weeks.
That's awhile. : /
I'm seriously considering a spa treatment, like some kind of facial peel or something.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have any opinion of topical vitamin A??? Currently I use 302's "A Boost"
because it has retinyl palmitate, which Fernandez recommends in all his studies.
I was thinking one reason he decided on this form is because its the mildest,
less irritating. So lets say there are 500 people are in his study, this type would be well
tolerated by all. Kind of a "universal vitamin A". I'm actually getting steady, good
results, but better is better if something else works better. Particularly if anyone
has sensitive skin and has found a good vitamin a.
thanks
a quick story........had breakfast with a friend on Sunday morning. We sat in window
table, with the sun coming in. After breakfast she said,"I didn't want to say anything,
but I was shocked about your skin". I said, "why, how does it look??". She said,
"I was actually shocked, it looks so good, I can't believe it". She even said "I need
to be dermalling" after I told her what I was doing. So its working for me.

About a month ago I got off a five month long accutane treatment and the result is far from good. I don't get any pimples or anything anymore but that doesn't do me much good since my face still looks like shite due to red marks and some scarring.
I currently use Skinoren two times a day but the results have been limited so far.
I'm thinking of buying Neutrogena acne mark fading peel and/or Vita-K's acne scar treatment (recommended in a thread here). Do you guys think it could help me or can you suggest something else?
I would love to do a laser procedure or something like it but I'll have to wait a year for that before my skin is ready for it after my previous accutane treatment. I can't stand looking like this anymore. My self-esteem has hit rock bottom and my social life is suffering severely from this. I hate having to put on concealing make-up every time I do something outside of my home.
My dermatologist said that the marks would fade in time and that some marks would disappear as I get a tan. A tan is out of the question since I live in the godforsaken part of the world called Scandinavia.
You have two pictures here so you can judge by yourselves. You should note that I have absolutely no tan at the moment and that the camera flash seem to highlight the red marks. The scars on the second picture aren't as bad as they look. My dermatologist said that the redness makes the scars look bigger and worse than they really are. I still hate it though so please help me with whatever you can think of.
All replies are greatly appreciated!

Anyone here using unrefined shea butter and black soap for? Get any results?
I read a lot of good reviews on this and ordered some yesterday.
I bought my unrefined shea butter from Nasabbs.com and I order the black soap from www.butters-n-bars.com because nasabbs was sold out on the black soap.

I want you ALL to begin using light therapy and dermaroller/needling. You can get yourself a whole "kit" for perhaps 750 dollars and you will get better results than anything else...
Here is a pic of my skin now
http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00109pk1.jpgWhat i have been doing for the past year is having dermaroller done every 6-8 weeks and and needling individual scars with 4mm diabetic 33guage needles. I use a 1mm stopper to prevent it penetrating th full 4 mm.
I then use terproline twice per day. My dual 660/880nm array from the LED man and my 96 led yellow array from the LED man. 5 mins with the dual array 3 mins with the yellow.
You will need EMLA for doing dermaroller at home, many people don;t realise ho agressive you need to be and waste their time rolling every day or every week. Every month would be the most i would ever consider if you are rolling properly.
Take your vitamin C aswell...
good luck guys, you can beat your scars just think outside the box. It is no coicidence that i have beaten so many skin issues. I try things that most haven't thought of or try it in an inovative way till i get the results i want.
Heres my semi comprehensive guide. I may add more to it later on...
Dermarollers and needles
1.5mm derma roller (2mm for advanced rollers and if you want to take a slight increase in risk of infection or other potential side effects) personally I feel the results from a 2mm roller are better and will be better than a 1.5mm roller for most, but I do believe there is a slight increase in risk of side effects, although this is minimal. I prefer the 3 line or 4 line rollers that you can get; they are easier to apply the right pressure for penetration and to get the correct penetration depth across the whole face.
For the more stubborn and deeper scars I recommend the BD Micro-Fine Pen Needle 31 G x 5mm. I used to recommend using stoppers with these, but if you are careful in not penetrating the full 5mm, making sure you use between 3-4mm and not directly in at 90degrees, but at angles so you don’t penetrate to the full depth then you should be fine. Practice this on your arm before hand ( I recommend practicing on the arm for all stages of needling including the topical anesthetic, use of Dermaroller etc.
To clean your rollers firstly dip the roller in 70% isopropyl alcohol for about 10-15 minutes, then dip in Hibicleanse for 5 minutes or so. Using one of the UV-C disinfection devices is also a good idea.
Skin Preparation
EMLA is to be used, under an occlusive dressing for at least 1 hr (Cling film or saran wrap for you Americans). I personally use a small home Dermaroller i.e. 0.2 mm needle length before i apply the EMLA to increase absorption. I think people should try with just the occlusion and EMLA first though, if you can tolerate the pain then don’t bother with the smaller roller before hand, this way less EMLA will be entering the blood stream.
For disinfection I use a combination of 70% isopropyl alcohol, and hibicleanse/hibiscrub.. To pre the skin, again a combination of isopropyl 70% wipes, then cleaning with hibiscrub for several minutes and rinse THOROUGHLY, should be sufficient.
I always keep a tube of Bactroban ointment handy for any potential breakouts or infections. The Hibicleanse can also be used as a cleanser for a few days before and after dermaroller/needling to help prevent breakouts. Don’t use hibiscrub or alcohol in the first few days post dermaroller or needling though.
Oral supplements
The two supplements I recommend are vitamin C, at least 1000mg daily preferably 2000mg for several (split this into several doses throughout the day) months post dermaroller/needling. Another good supplement is red wine/grape seed extract (iherb have a very good red wine extract by doctors best). A multivitamin can’t hurt but for those of you who have taken Accutane I would find a multivitamin WITHOUT vitamin A.
Topicals
Now everyone prefers different topical, people know my preference i.e. terproline. I think it is a very good topical and I will always recommend it till something better comes along. If your skin agrees with retionds you may like these, but I don’t recommend starting these at the same time as needling/Dermaroller until you know how your skin reacts. Don’t use topical Retinoids if you have taken accutane in the past few years, or until you know how your skin responds to topical Retinoids. Topical Vitamin A the same applies.
Topical vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is another good one which I like. You need a good 15 or 20% solution and it needs to be the right PH. Check up on these things.
Copper peptides I have tried and wasn’t a big fan of but they did seem to refine my pores slightly, I haven’t used long term but again some people really like them.
Keep topical simple, don’t use too many of them it will only confuse matters. Don’t start topical in the middle of starting needling or dermaroller.
If you are using a topical to keep your acne under control, then you should probably keep using it. I personally recommend light therapy if you have active acne though as it won’t irritate the skin like some topical can.
Light therapy
Now this is one of the most important stages. I recommend everyone use light therapy, a combination of yellow (590 nm) red (660nm) and infra red (880nm) is best. You can use each separately or a combination of each. Some people believe using each separately is best. I use the 660/990 together and the yellow separately.
For acne you need the blue frequency at or around 405-420nm. The Beauty skin device is very good for acne.
Every day for the first few weeks or every other day at least. You need to reach the correct level of energy (joules per cm squared) we aim to hit about 6 joules. So you need to keep the distance down to about an inch or so from the skin and use them for approximately 5 minutes per are if you are using the LED mans devices.
You need to read up on each of these topic areas, I can’t go into enough detail and there will always be questions or variables which you can generally find the answers to out there, by searching. I love giving advice to people but when the questions are easy to find the answer to and they are repeatedly continuously it get a bit annoying.
Hey guys,
Some of you may remember Bulgarian derm bringing up the point that some people have suffered things such as cardiac arrest from topical anesthetics such as Lidocaine. While these incidents are extremely unlikely, they are a rare possible risk.... I was reading an article earlier and it went along with my consensus that it is the higher concentrations of lidocaine e.g. 10% applied under occlusion that pose the problem.
EMLA does contain 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine. Now because i recommend people use EMLA i want to make a new recommendation for safety. Because we do this at home we don't have the supervision we would have in a hospital, so here is what i recommend we do from now on to minimise the chances even further.
The half life (time for the body to eliminate half of the drug from the body) of lidocaine is aprox 2hrs, prilocane is even shorter. SO as some of you have been doing i recommend you do one section of your face at a time in the same evening, leaving and hour or two in between application of the anesthetics.
E.g. at 5pm apply anesthetic to right cheek, leave under occlusion for an hour then clean and needle/dermaroll. Then at 7pm do the same on the right cheek, then 9pm do the forehead....
This way you will have aprox 1/3-1/2 of the peak plasma concentration you would have if you were to apply it all at once. As you all should know, chances of side effects decrease with a decrease in dose. So i am confident if we all do this we will never have any problems.
I hope you all take the time to read this.

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I got a cortisone shot in a pimple about 3.5 months ago. Since I got it, the spot I got the shot in has been discolored a reddish/brownish color. It is about the size of a large pimple, and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I don't really have an indent in the spot like lots of people seem to.
Has anyone else experienced this???? Please help....
Thank you.

In your experience, what works better for rolling scars: topically applied retinoid cream, or apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, etc.?
I've noticed that many of you claim to have experienced positive results with the apple cider vinegar method. I've been using retinoid cream, but am worried about all the chemicals in it and was wondering if apple cider vinegar would be a good substitute.

Guys here is how I finally won the battle over my sebaceous hyperplasia after 5 hard and long years of searching for the solution. I am wrighting my experiences in order to pay back for all the very useful information I have gleaned from the members on this forum. Thank you all very much, a large part of my successful results are due to your contributions!
Starting in 10th grade my acne cysts on my nose developed into sebaceous hyperplasia (which looks like hypertrophic scars) they are actually over grown oil glands. There were three large ones on left side of my nose, 4 in middle and 2 on left side. My dermatologits treated them for 3 years as acne lesions (I believe he was just trying to sqeeze me for the money) finally this march I told him to excise it because I coulden't tolerate them anymore, he admitted they were probably not acne but sebaceous hyperlasia. I made an appointment with a plastic surgeon for 5-25 but this guy Dr. Havard seemed very shady and wanted me to do laser, I opted to find another plastic surgeon (even though it would have been easier to just go with the first Dr. after reading the many posts by experienced people here who insisted that the right Dr. makes all the difference).
On monday 9-20-04 Dr. Korn who was very honest and told me all the options (which I was well read on already) suggested electrocautery, which would cost $325. I readily agreed, he performed first injected my nose with 10 doses of local anesthesia which hurt like nothing else (imagine pushing a needle 5 inches into your nose over 30 times in different locations, one of the worst pains I have ever experienced in my life physically). Then he let it sit for 30 minutes to sock in, finally he used electrocautery machine to burn the lesions off and scrapped it occasionaly with a scalpel. The actual procedure took about 15-20 minutes. 2 days later I see an 95-100% improvement; it is very possiable I will have a perfect cosmetic result from the procedure. I am extremely pleased.
Here is the list of procedures I have tried and failed before doing electrocautery.
-Accutane twice (out of pocket cost $2500)
-Retin A
-Needle Aspiration (I was so stupid, of course it didn't work)
-Benzoyal Peroxide
-Salyic Acid
-Liquid Nitrogen (ouch, it did yield a 30-40% improvement but costs around $150)
Thank you all for your help, my war with acne and scars (sebaceous hyperplasia) is over, I am victorious! I would also like to thank my lord who has given me success, my parents who have given me the support I needed to keep up the good fight.
Good luck my friends! I wish one day, you too can stand victorious in your war with acne and scars.

Here is an article that says this about LED light that I find a bit concerning. Do you think this is true, or are they are just trying to promote sales of their product?
***But exposure to intense LED light is also involved in generating high levels of reactive oxygen species as byproducts that can potentially damage cells***

in a topic i saw earlier today or yesterday, somebody mentioned something a teacher said to them: "nobody will notice your flaws because they're too worried about their own"
i wish i bookmarked it. i found it to be very inspiring.
i'm too worried about my own appearance to notice everyone else's flaws..
how about everyone else? do you still notice other people's imperfections more or less than your bout with acne?

So.. I have some scars on my cheeks (rolling, boxcar) however when I touch my face with my hands I can't feel any scarring. My face feels perfectly smooth!
Does anyone else have this? It bugs the hell out of me because in some lighting it looks pretty deep.. so I dont know what to believe.

I'm looking for a smart, well-known dermatologist in Toronto I could go to for my scarring.
I have rolling, and depressed on my forehead and temples. I've been browsing these forums and it seems like dermarolling is the way to go.
But I would like to know if any of ya'll know of any good dermatologists in the Toronto region which I could go to for a second opinion.
Also, if I do go about using a dermaroller, what precautions must I take to ensure I dont get infected or breakout. How do I also go about ordering one?
Thanks in advance.

The skin on my forehead is depressed but it is smoothly depressed so you can't really see when you look at my face unless the sun is shining on it. I can feel it very well with my hand though and I would really like to get rid of this. I'm pretty much acne free after 6 months on the regimen so now I'm looking at options to remove the few scars I have and I would really like to start with this because it annoys me the most. What is this called and how is it treated?

I have had a 2.mm professional rolling treatment, results were a huge infection/breakout. Anyway, I have a 1.5mm I got online, and have used it just now.
I really want to know WHY people need a numbing cream? Maybe I have no nerves left in my face? Ive had alot of procedures...
Does it REALLY hurt, or is it in the mind? I just did a light roll and it didnt hurt at all, it stings a bit, but thats all.
I honestly dont think the sensation is PAINFUL. It feels like exactly what it is. Im saving money

dont need numbing creams!
Just wondering am I a freak?? I really DO think ive had damage to the nerves, when I had Co2 full face.

from Clinics in Dermatology 2008 Combating Photoaging with Percutaneous
Collagen Induction
Desmond Fernandez; Massimo Signorini
"If the 1-mm Roll-CIT device is used for microneedling, the
bleeding is microscopic and entirely within the papillary and
upper reticular dermis because the needles only penetrate
about 0.75 mm at most. Because the epidermis is, on average,
0.2 mm, one can be certain that the injury will be limited to the
upper layers of the dermis. This excites a small inflamatory
response, yet the cascade of growth factors still gets initiated
by the release of platlets through the puncturing of small
vessels by microneedling. The possibility exists that
with microneedling, one gets a purer stimulus for collagen
synthesis without the heavy inflammatory reaction because
subdermal fat is certainly not damaged at the same time.
It is believed that because the epidermis is intact, this might
favor predominantly TGF-B3 rather than TGF-B1 and -B2,
which are associated with scar collagen deposition.
Transforming Growth Factor-B3 in implicated in scarless
healing and normal lattice weave collegan deposition."
To me this is saying the shallower 1mm (and hopefully 1.5mm)
actually is advantageous for scarless healing after the injury.
