hey there, i have moderate to severe acne..prone to redness etc...
i do think i already have a mild case of rosacea so i hope to go on a low dose of roaccutane because i simply just have to do something about my acne and i just hope it doesnt exasperate my facial redness..
part of the facial redness is that i have 2 broken capillaries, you know what i mean, little purple superficial veins just under the skin, their on my cheeks...
is there anything at all anyone has ever discovered to help with broken capillaries? this is an area i know little about... ive always been more concered about acne.. but it seems im probably just gonna get more and more of these things because my skin seems to be getting more and more sensitive...
would appreciate any help at all

Rosacea Patients Benefit from Facial Moisturizer
Study involving niacinamide, tocopheryl acetate, panthenol combination shows marked improvements
Jul 1, 2001
By: Cheryl Guttman
Dermatology Times
WASHINGTON - A facial moisturizer formulated with a complex of vitamins is an excellent choice for ancillary skin care in rosacea patients, Zoe D. Draelos, M.D., said at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.
In a study enrolling 48 adult females with mild-to-moderate rosacea, the product was well tolerated by all patients and also caused positive alterations in skin barrier function that translated clinically into marked improvements in patient- and physician-rated features of skin appearance.
"Selection of an appropriate moisturizer for rosacea patients can be difficult. This new product, which I evaluated, does not just contain moisturizing ingredients but it is designed to improve the skin barrier and texture. Maintaining the skin barrier in excellent condition is critical for rosacea patients in whom exposure to an irritant can induce a cycle of erythema that may persist for days. The ability of this moisturizer to improve skin appearance is probably due in part to its improvement of barrier function, which helped to reduce the risk of irritation from cosmetics and other products being applied to the face, said Dr. Draelos, clinical associate professor of dermatology, Wake Forest University Medical School, Winston-Salem, N.C.
The product tested contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), which increases exfoliation, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), which has emollient properties and helps to smooth the skin surface as well as reduce moisture loss, and panthenol, a good humectant acting to increase skin hydration. And this combination has been shown to improve barrier function. Another unique feature is its packaging. The new moisturizer is a cream but is dispensed as a lotion through a novel pump delivery system.
"Rosacea patients often prefer lotions over creams as the latter type of products may increase any shine that tends to be present already. However, lotions can be irritating because they may be formulated with propylene glycol and evaporate rapidly. This new product provides patients with the desired cosmetic features of a lotion while avoiding the drawbacks of that formulation type," Dr. Draelos said.
The study she conducted evaluating the effects of adjunctive use of the new facial moisturizing product enrolled women with advanced stage I or stage II rosacea. Patients were excluded if they were using any oral or topical corticosteroids or had more than 10 inflammatory lesions.
"This moisturizer product is also a good choice for use by patients with more severe rosacea in addition to prescription therapy targeted at treating their underlying disease. However, benefits on skin appearance, especially with respect to erythema, are likely to occur more rapidly in women whose condition is characterized by less of an acne component," Dr. Draelos commented.
Baseline measurements were made after a two-week washout period during which other prescription medications for rosacea were continued while women washed with a synthetic detergent-based product and used a bland moisturizing lotion. Thereafter, the moisturizer was switched to the new vitamin-containing product while other rosacea care was maintained.
In addition to applying the moisturizer to the face, participants were instructed to apply it to the dorsal surface of one randomly selected forearm twice daily. The patients were unaware of the moisturizer product's identity and Dr. Draelos was blinded as to which forearm was selected for moisturizer application.
The assessments included investigator and patient ratings of the severity of a variety of rosacea signs and symptoms as well as inflammatory lesion counts and global ratings of appearance. In addition, barrier function of the face and forearms was determined by measuring hydration and transepidermal water loss and with ratings of reaction to various concentrations of DMSO (forearms only).
All but two women enrolled in the study completed the four-week treatment phase. Benefits of using the moisturizer product were seen early. At the two-week visit, about 80 percent of women were rated by the investigator as showing global improvement in their rosacea condition, and by study completion, 96 percent were judged as improved.
While all individual facial attributes were rated as improved, reduction in erythema, dryness, and scaling/peeling were most notable. For example, erythema was judged as moderate or severe in more than 50 percent of women at baseline, whereas at study completion, erythema was considered absent to mild in the vast majority of women and severe in none. Similarly, patients consistently rated themselves as improved in the various outcome parameters, with mean responses for each item falling in the range of "moderately better."
Use of the new moisturizer product resulted in reduction of transepidermal water loss from the facial skin compared with baseline. At study completion, transepidermal water loss was significantly lower from the treated versus untreated forearm. In addition, mean wheal and erythema responses to the DMSO probes were significantly lower on the treated versus untreated forearms.
The product tested is marketed by The Procter & Gamble Co, Cincinnati, as Olay Total Effects Moisturizer. The study was performed under an unrestricted educational

My regimen : Twice a day I wash my face with soap and then apply a Benzoyl Peroxide Pads 6.5% to my face and wash that off as well after about 10 seconds. At night I take minocycline and use tazorac, and I have been doing this for almost 8 months.
This only seems to happen at school, when I leave my house in the morning my skin is looking fine, but by about lunchtime my face is always red, and then gets less red from there. The only explanation I can think of is the tazorac thins out my skin, and my mind has just programmed itself that it will get red at that time or something, and I start feeling all hot and embarassed, which I'm sure just compounds the problem. It also seemed to get worse around winter time, but it was still happening in the fall, just not as much it seemed.
any thoughts? just take a deep breath? i dont even know anymore.

to make a long story short, I played in the sun A LOT and still do when its warm out and back then I would tane, not purposely, but then I got acne and It just made the acne red, but hidden cause my face was tane. SO, now, when I am not tane, red skin is VERY apparent around my mouth, except above my lips and just below them! (a.k.a moustache area) So, I have tried a lot of crap and i don't wont to go through them, including antibiotics, miniocylcine jsut for shits and giggles and the strongest was tazorac, which I guess works now a bit, but it makes my face extremely peely and since i play a lot of sports and ball come at my face and someitmees hit it, all this skin flakes off and i'm pissed. Besides, its a pain in the morining and it makes not wanna talk cause my mouth is wayyyy to dry.
- After shower, skin that is red has white skin over it, assuming thats new develpment. But ITS BEEN THERE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS IF NOT 2. I put cetaphil on it. I Honestly don't know what the hell will work. I know pills wont do jack cuase I DON'T GET PUSTLES. Just this red skin that makes it look disuguisting. My face is 100% despite this, but I manage around it and still do everyhting I want, except go out with a girl just cause I don't want to make them feel awkward. What do you guys suggest?

My dentist cut the side of my mouth and I've been trying to treat the swelling.
So, I had this steroid cream that I *stupidly* put on last night.
This morning... the edge of my mouth is a giant red and swollen lump.
After doing some research I find that you can get a kind of an infected dermatitis from using strong steroids on the face.
Has anyone had this happen?
Do you think just using the cream for one night would give me an infection?
I've got it covered in Neosporin now.
I'm desperately hoping it's just irritated skin and will go away.
Thanks for any advice!

My Face is so unpredictable. One minute its normal colour the next minute and for no reason what so ever it was burn up and my cheeks and chin will go bright red and throb painfully. This happens a lot. It also doesn't help I blush pretty easily too when I talk to people. Even family members, I think, "How horrible would it be if I go bright red now?" and I do. But thats only when I think about it. Sometimes my face will turn deep red even if i am not thinking about my skin.

Its so embarressing.
My face did this even before I was on accutane too. Does anyone else experience this???

Hi everyone, as of a few months ago I used to have redness all around my cheeks and nose. I also felt a lot of gas/bloating a little while after eating a meal. Then I happened to stumble upon this article in a bodybuilding/strength training magazine:
http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1257805Basically, I started taking Betaine HCl pills at mealtimes, and I found that those symptoms reduced greatly! I find it interesting how the coach states the solution so matter-of-factly whereas when I searched for information on rosacea I never found that connection. As time went on, I gradually reduced my supplementation (using the "quality" of my digestion to gauge need) and now I don't need them anymore. This supplementation helped me a lot, hopefully it'll work for some others too.

Hey guys. What’s the difference between Rosacea and Broken Capillaries?
After I applied BP under my eye area (where I never got acne anyway) I developed a red mark thing. I tried to take a picture but my camera just blurs when I try and take a picture of something close up. It goes something like this:

Well,
Im finally clear after so long. >>;
and yeah, I was left with intense redness and a little scarring.
I have it pretty bad. My face turns bright red at random times,
and burns. Intensly. So, I randomly bought this product,
because I was getting a bit annoyed.
Vichy Normaderm (Anti-Imperfection concentrate)
Though a bit pricy (20 dollars CDN/15mL bottle)
it honestly left my skin abnormally smooth,
and gave me that refreshed feeling as well, throughout the day.
I use it only once a day, after my morning wash,
and it prevents "" almost completely. =)
It also reduced the appearance of my red marks after
about a week.

Hi I guess I got carried away and used this home microdermabrasion device by neutrogena for like 8 minutes on a scar on my face. Anyhow the skin is red, and its been that way for 3 months now. I put nothing on it. Will it ever go away or is this some kind of permanent redness?

Ok I dont have Rosacea just redness on my forehead and chin from over doing bp and being harsh on my skin,so I dont know if this mosituriser will be too weak in terms of moisturisation for rosacea, but I can tell you that this is the best moisturiser ive ever used to get rid of redness it is quite brillant like Ive actually stopped using it everyday because people were commenting that I looked very pale I would recommend to everyone to give it a try I just gave it to my mother the other day and she is loving it.
Pros It turns you into casper if you use it everyday for a month
Will not irritate even the most sensitive skins I should know

Cons Doesnt moisturise the best so you might have to use a small amount of a strong moisturiser under it
Sorry if im coming on very strongly I just think its great and I wouldnt feel right keeping to myself and dont worry about the sea minerals in the moisturiser they dont irritate there quite refreshing really

Hey there,
I have tried to put Cetaphil Moisturizer, the one for really dry skin on my rosacea areas under my eyes, and they seem to sting sometimes or make it even redder. Recently I have used a Saylisic Acid(spelling?) Moisturizer, with a small amount of SA in it.
What is a good moisturizer for it?

Hi all.
Well, I've been off accutane for a couple years, but I continue to have what I feel is a side-effect, as it is something that never occured before I took the drug.
Basically, my face burns. It feels really heated, like I'm embarrassed, then it starts burning, almost like I'm sunburnt.
Oh yeah, and it turns angry red, particularly across my cheeks.
I should mention that I use NO product on this area, no BP, no nada.
Does anyone have a similar thing happen to them. I get so heated I have to rinse my face in cold water. It usually starts happening mid-afternoon, and is accompanied by oil oil oil oil.
So what gives? Haha. Man, this skin of ours....

Can you develop Rosacea? If you can then how do you know whether you have Rosacea or just redness? I am asking this because I remember a while ago when I had no clue about bp or acne products in general I burned the shit out of my face! This was a couple of years ago but I can't remember if my face was red before that. It could be because of the regimen but my face seems to have gotten used to it a little bit now. Anyway, when I'm clear and I still have redness, could that be Rosacea or will I just have to wait it out to get rid of my redness (its not super bad but its bad enough that I'm thinking about it all time)?

I left a message for my derm on his message machine asking for more clonidine and asking for enough that I can take it 3 times a day in 0.1 mg doses; however, I think a little higher dosage might do me better. Should I call back on Sunday asking for clonidine such that I can take 0.2 mg in the morning, 0.2 mg at night, and 0.1 mg during the afternoon, or, as I left a number for them to call me back at and I left a message saying I needed it to be sent to a different pharmacy this time which I did not specify during the call, wait for them to call me on Monday?
My previous dosage was "take 1/2 to 1 tablet by mouth as needed for flushing - take 30 minutes before"
This medicine is awesome. I have suffered with really bad redness and flushing for months and this medicine takes it away in less than 30 minutes. I went from girls, guys, professors, and such not even looking me in the face when talking to me or not wanting to talk to me to girls actually coming up to me on their own and talking to me. It totally kicks ass even though I still don't feel better, people are treating me different and I don't really believe it. I think they are just trying to figure out what happened maybe.

aloe vera gel really helps redness alot. For me, sometimes i have redness on my face. I apply this, and in about 20 mins i look in the mirror and my face is nice and glowy and the redness calms down. It really helps. Its also a miracle healer for sunburns. I totally love it. I have been using it for nearly a year

already.. i remember when i started

Google aloe vera and you'll be amazed of the benefits it can offer!
