If you want or need an acne prescription, see a doctor and get it legally. If you get prescriptions illegally online you could easily hurt yourself or waste your money.
- Independent studies have been performed on the sale of Internet-bought prescriptions. Often the prescription contains no active ingredient, little active ingredient, or in a worst case scenario toxic amounts of active ingredient.
- Drugs bought without a prescription can actually be a completely different compound from what the buyer intends.
Acne.org prohibits the illegal trade of any form of drug or prescription drug. If you see a post from someone selling a prescription, please report it immediately. Thanks.

That's it, this is the LAST straw! I am so sick of having a BC that makes my freaking face break out all the time! The break outs are making me irritable, self conscious, and stressed out.
I'm currently taking Femcon Fe, which cleared my break outs for about 5 months and then after that stopped working and is now actually breaking me out.
So I'm switching my bc to Ortho Tri Cyclen, since it is the only proven birth control to control acne. I'm not considering Yaz because I've heard too many blood clot stories, and I don't have PMDD or bad PMS, so I don't need Yaz.
I was just wondering if any chick had any good experience with ACNE on Ortho Tri Cyclen (not Lo). I don't care about the other stuff, mood swings, weight gain, etc, I just want to know about acne experience.

Hi everyone,
About six months ago I ended my treatment of accutane and my acne came back a little bit. My derm gave me this medicine called epiduo and I can honestly say its made my acne even worse. I was starting to get numerous white heads here and there, but since I started using this my acne has become SO much worse. I know that they say you get an initial break out and all of that other BS, but I think this medicine is ridiculous. Ive used some other products with adapalene (differin) and the same thing happened. Does anybody use this shit? And does it work? Ive never had much success with galderma products and im starting to wonder if its even worth staying with it.
Thanks

I read somewhere that around 80% of people on it, are done with acne basically for good... I would like to hear everyones responses, and if it did come back, how soon, how bad, or if it hasn't come back and so on. I have my last 4 boxes left, and atm i don't have any pimples at all, and im doing well (except the redness), i would just love to never have to deal with acne again, ro-accutane is my saviour
Post away !!!

I've been taking Doxycycline for a few weeks and also just started taking St John's Wort. My derm said it's fine as long as I use sunscreen. I'm taking 100mg Doxy once a day and 300 mg St John's Wort 3 x a day. Anyone taking these things with positive or adverse effects?
Thanks!!!

Hello!
i've been using Benzaclin for about 3 months now. it has worked wonders. Just recently i noticed small dry patches on the side of my face where i had used a lot of Benzaclin prieviously, trying to get rid of an under the skin pimple. i'm moisturizing them like crazy, even using Vit E oil but it still looks rough in those areas. Does anyone know of this happening? I was thinking it was because i've been out in the sun a lot or because the benzaclin is nearing the expiration date. Any ideas??
Thanks!

What's the difference? My derm prescribed "5% Benzoyl Peroxide Aqueous Solution".
What is an aqueous solution? Is it made differently than OTC stuff? Any significant advantages? I find it hard to believe that prescription companies could make a profit off something that you can buy OTC for ~$3 in Wal-mart. There must be some difference.
So what separates Benzac AC, Brevoxyl, Benzagel, etc etc from say Clearasil or Oxy?
Thanks!

as im sure some have you know the story: i've been using proactiv for a year but it seems to have stopped working, and my chin has developed stubborn cysts. as soon as i turn 20 it turned for the worst it seems.
went to the derm today and she prescribed ziana gel apply once at night. really worried not only about the IB but also stoppping the proactiv. so my question is has anyone experienced success with ziana? and how long did it take to show progress? is this a long-term treatment? what happens when it stops working, move on to the next antibotic?
i wish i can outgrow acne already.

I am 24 years old and have been suffering with acne since I was 18. I have tried every OTC product under the sun (e.g. tea tree oil, Desitin (yes, I tried that!), salicylic acid, various washes...) as well as many prescriptions (e.g. Retin-A Micro, minocycline, birth control, clindamycin, etc). At its worst, my acne is cystic -- and for years I would always have anywhere from 3-12 pimples on my face at any given time. About a year ago, my doctor prescribed Yasmin birth control and a clindamycin topical gel. It definitely helped -- my face went down to always having about 2-4 pimples at any given time, but I was never totally clear.
A couple months ago, I decided to try ProActiv, to get rid of the rest of the acne. Well, it didn't work at all -- the wash completely dried out my face, leaving me flaky and red, even if I only used it once a day, or even every other day. And I couldn't even touch my skin with their BP lotion because my skin would get completely inflamed.
To make this long story shorter, I've experimented with SO many combos of medicines, and I finally found one that has completely cleared up my skin. I just wanted to pass it along, in case it might possibly help anyone else out there.
This is my regimen:
(at night)
-- wash with ProActiv Renewing Cleanser (it's a BP wash, but it also has little beads or something in it, which help exfoliate)
-- after drying, wipe my face with a makeup wipe -- I use a brand called Equate, which I buy at WalMart -- they're called Facial Cleansing Wipes and on the package it says to compare them with Pond's Clean Sweep. They are the KEY to my regimen, because they totally moisturize my skin after washing with the BP, and they also wipe away any excess makeup or anything that wasn't washed off from earlier. I just wipe my face and let it air-dry
-- after that dries, I apply the clindamycin topical gel
-- take Yasmin birth control right before bed
My face has been clear for a good few months now. Sure, I get the occasional pimple, but it's so rare. Now, I have to deal with the scarring that my acne left me with!
Good luck...

I've been taking 150mg a day of Doryx for 3 1/2 weeks. Some people may think that it's a little soon to write a review but I have to say it has helped a lot with inflammation and breakouts in general.
My acne story:
I am 27 year old female who has NEVER had acne a day in my life, not during my prenancy with my son nor when I was going through puberty or teenager. Occassionally I would get a nodule/cyst on my chin or forehead, usually around the time of my period, that would come up and stay for a week or two but go away. BUT- in January 2009 I noticed everyday around 1pm my face would be extremely oily (usually very dry skin- oil was not a problem). By February 2009 I had sand paper feeling bumps all over my face and neck (no redness). April 2009 I had numerous nodules/cyst on my forehead, chin and jawline- VERY PAINFUL! Was diagnosed w/PCOS (Polyscystic Ovarian Syndrome)- which is basically a severe hormonal imbalance. My gyno said that was probably the reason for my breakout now. He immediately put me on generic Doryx (Doxycycline) 100mg a day to try to help with the acne that was forming. That did not help very much so 4 weeks later I went to a dermatologist who put me on Cephalexin 1500mg a day and Retin A .025 and told me to quit being so vain. Needless to say the Cephalexin didn't touch the acne, the Retin A was very abrasive and hard on my skin at first. After 3 weeks of that my gyno put me on 50mg a day Aldactone - acts kind of like Accutane in reducing the amount of oil your body produces. This started to help in a tremendous way. 2 weeks later I went to see a new derm, she was excellent and very compassionate, immediately put me on Doryx and offered me accutane. But with the ipledge system I can't start accutane for another 2 weeks. However, in the 'meantime' the Doryx has worked miracles on my skin, I'm sooo thankful!
In closing my new derm informed me that if my acne is truly 'hormonal' then the acne will return whether I take Accuatne or not. Ladies- make sure you have your hormone levels checked and see a derm/gyno that is proactive and compassionate. Women who develope acne in late 20's to early 30's is usually 'hormonal acne' ... Don't ignore it- your hormones try to tell you a lot... I ignored the 'warning' signs (oily skin, sand paper feeling break out) that tried to tell me something wasn't right.
I'm still going to take the Accutane- even if the acne comes back its usually not as severe as the original onset (per my derm)... It's worth a try and I'm hoping it will help with my scars I've got now as a result of the acne I've developed in the last 6 months.

So I got diagnosed today with minocycline induced hyperpigmentation, which is basically the medicine is causing bruising on your shins. My case isnt bad at all. Just a few small bruises that havent gone away for months and came for no reason.
So now I got taken off the minocycline which was working decently well for me and put on Ampicillin which I've never even heard of.
Anyone have luck with this?

Hi Everyone,
Hey listen to this. I posted a topic here about a week ago about getting a rash on my back while on accutane. I received a few replys but in the end decided to get it checked out by my derm. Lucky for me she fitted me in at the hospital the next day. I showed her my rash on my back and where it had slightly progressed down one of my bum cheeks, and she came up with the conclusion that i had..... SHINGLES..... I asked her about weither or not accutane could have caused this but she said that she had not seen a case where accutane had caused Shingles. So with my face improving on accutane i was getting a lot happier in myself. I had only been on the drug for 3 weeks and my face was looking great, My forehead had almost completely cleared, i was well happy. But while i have the Shingles i had to stop the drug to be on the safe side while they check my blood levels, and now i have to take another antibiotic to clear the shingles up. I was well happy as i don't normally take well to antibiotics but accutane was great, I did not have any side effects except the usual dry lips....
Hopefully after i go see her on thursday i will be able to go back on accutane.
I will let you all know what happens as i am sure people who are considering accutane would like to know.. I hope it is not the accutane that brought the shingles on but hey there is only one way to find out and that is to try accutane again. Lets just hope i picked the shingles up at work.

Hi, this is my first post ever but I really wanted to share with everyone how I completely got rid of my acne since for the first time in forever I am thrilled with the condition of my skin. Maybe it will do the same for you! For starters I have been to about ten different dermatologist in my life time. I have tried almost every medication on this website and almost every face wash and lotion on here as well. I've done the apple cider vinegar drink...even gone as far as urine therapy which is SO gross. My acne really wasn't that bad but it was painful and stubborn. Anything I did that improved my skin was only temporary and it still felt as if i had clogged pores underneath my skin. My skin is combination dry and oily. It's weird cause even with dry cracked skin it looks like I washed my face with grease.
Anyways, birth control pills did nothing for me until I found Diane 35. I hated it at first. I had the worst break out ever and it lasted for almost 3 months. My skin seemed oiler, I constantly had my period, I got fat, the cysts were so painful and all around my chin. I didn't give up only because I bought a 6 month supply. After 4 months almost all my acne was gone except for an occasional pimple. My skin was never oily anymore. it was such an amazing and noticble difference. I got so many compliments on my skin!
Eventually, I wanted even less oily skin and I wanted to get rid of the occasional (yet rare) pimples. I also felt bloated on the diane and that bothered me. So I took 100mg of spirolactone...after two months I lost all the weight I gained from diane effortlessly (10 pounds). I got more curves, a smaller stomach, bigger boobs. My skin got even better with less oil!
I went back to my dermatologist to do something about my pores and he perscribed me differin. That took awhile to work to but fortunately for me (probably because of he two other medications). It made my skin feel nicer and I did notice smaller pores!
Around my period (a week before & during) I take doxycyclin so I don't even get small pimples then.
This literally has helped me so much! Hopefully it can help you too. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

hey ths my first time to ost on this particular board cause anyway, i only started taking up accutane bout five weeks ago.
the thing is my derm put me on a relatively low dose, 20 mg for my 110 lb self. (but im supposed to take that for 10 months). my first few weeks were ok, i noticed a decrease in my face's oiliness already.
anyway since i was still new on accutane, i decided it wouldnt hurt much if i wax my upper lip hair. i thought my skin wasn't dry enough yet so i can still probabaly get away with waxing. so i did and i ended up with this HUGE wound on my upper lip. it started scabbing the day after waxing and i had this dark red scab that made me look like a girl with a mustache. well anyway, since i waxed, i stopped taking accutance cause im afraid it might delay healing or something. the scabs came of after 5 days and left this brownish marks that almost look like they're gonna peel but hasn't yet. should i resume accutane now? do you think these brown marks will ever go away?

Aczone is incredible. Not sure how or why it works, but it is the only product among the dozens prescribed to me that really makes a difference. Since using it, I haven't had a massive breakout like I normally would, and if I do get a blemish, I apply this topical and it takes the inflammation out within 30 minutes. Not even kidding. If you haven't tried this, talk to your doctor! I wish you all the best of luck!

I have a question...I know alot of people dont agree with this.
But my doctor put me on Bactrim to stop the IB from Accutane. I have very mild acne, but really persistant. He said that sometimes Accutane will make my acne flare up on parts of my face that I never had before and he didnt want to cause scarring.
My fear is that once I stop the Bactrim after my two month mark, I will breakout. I know people who go off Bactrim break out within days, will this happen even though I am on Accutane?
Any stories would be much appreciated, since I am getting married in 2 1/2 months and I was thinking I would stay on the Bactrim till after the wedding so I dont have a nasty breakout.
Thank you!

Hi
I don't visit this website at all but I thought I might chime in now that I have been succesfull at stopping my facial acne. I started taking Propecia 3 months ago and my acne has completely stopped.
Propecia a drug that cuts DHT and 5-AR by 80% for the purpose of thinning hair. I am somewhat young, 28, but had suffered with facial acne since I was 10 years old. I don't think Propecia can be used by women because it can harm babies. I haven't had any side effects myself except some sexual function for the first week but there seems to be a paranoia but I think the vast majority of people who take it are fine.
I see a lot of people analyzing their food and stuff and making their lives miserable by thinking they can adjust their hormones. Genetics dominate everything, I don't care what anyone says.. if you're prone to acne, you will get it regardless of what you eat. I don't bother analyzing myself now.. I can eat what I want and I haven't had a zit in months. All it is is a pill a day. I don't like the idea of a pill either but its nice to save my hair and have no more zits as well.

I only ever get acne when I am on birth control. When I go off of it my face completely clears up no bumps anywhere. But since I have an IUD I cannot seem to escape it now. Apparently, I am very sensitive to the progesterone. Ahywho, I started taking this med about a week and a half ago and it has been great for me. Ive noticed that my skin has become less oily. I still have some oiliness, but I feel that gradually it will start to become less of an issue for me and the makeup I wear.
I have had no real side effects except for slight head aches and having to urinate more than usual. Outside of that I have had no problem with the med. The only thing that really makes me a little weary is the build up of potassium in my system. It suggested that the doc check your potassium levels once a month. Has anyone heard of this before?
Time will tell if this med really works long term.
