I can't swallow my Monodox, Can I break open the pill?

I've never been able to swallow pills. I decided to break open my Monodox capsule, pour its contents into a glass of water, and gulp down the water. Will Monodox be as effective this way? Is it safe this way? I've done it with other types of pills and I was always fine.
