My acne is mild, but I have HORRIBLE oily skin. I assume your oily skin goes away with the acne using accutane, but since I don't have very bad acne I won't get my hands on accutane, I guess that's good.
Anyway, Is there any way to clear up oiliness without it? Anything LIKE IT?

Good afternoon!
First off, I have searched this site and others for literally years for a "cure" to my oily skin. Likewise, I have tried all the different gimics and treatments - none of which have been all that effective.
Sometimes it feels unbearable to go through my day like this, and I see no reason why we have to suffer from gross, shiny skin. Oily skin seems like a very treatable condition, yet nothing has been put on the market. Why is this condition avoided by researchers and the drug companies? Is it a lack of profit or caring? I am confident it could be remedied if given enough attention. Maybe we should start an awareness group:)
Does anyone else feel neglected as a person with chronic oily skin and believe an effective treatment should be available by now? As anyone who took accutane knows, sebacous glands can be controlled, if not shut down completely.

I posted this before, but I toned it down a bit. Its not too long. Please answer?
So, first of all, my skin is quite oily. At school I blot pretty much between EVERY class, (each is 1 hour long) AND I apply powder from my compact. Still get's gross and oily, so I think this stuff could work good for me.
1) I'm not sure about using it as a make up "primer" because I don't put make up ALL over my face. I think it might leave white-ish spots? Not sure. Please clarify that.
2) I want to use moisturizer, Is it okay to use it under it?
3) If it's going to be white on my face, I don't want to use it during the day. If I use it at night, does it do anything?
4) Am I even right about how to use it? Do you leave it on for a long time, or for like 10 minutes and wash it off? Because the people who say its wonderful seem to leave it on ALLL day under their make up.
I know this is long, but I just need to know! I've been really embarrassed about myself lately.

My forehead really get's oily with time. I wash my face night and morning with cold water. My skin is fine after the wash, but it get's really oily in about 10 hours. I've been trying to avoid washing my face more than twice a day. What should I do? I used to use lumene for men cleanser about 3 months ago. It sucked all the oil out of my face leaving it super dry. So I threw away everything I owned and started using water only... Also when I shower, I use tepid water at first, then I finish off with FREEZING water. Maybe this is messing my skin up and causing it to react this way?
What should I do? Oil absorbing sheets? Go back to a natural cleanser and start moisturizing? I'm considering that B5 vitamin treatment. Does that still work? I don't wanna go bald

. I'm 19.

I'm confused. I think oil causes acne, but touching your face transfers oils from your hands to your face. If your face is VERY oily like mine, wouldn't it be your face transfering oils to your hand?
My point is, shouldn't I wipe it off? It's gross, I don't want to be shiny all day. (and no I don't have anything else to use sometimes, I use oil wipes when I can)

Are you or are you not embarrassed about blotting your olies in front of everyone? I always have to go to the bathroom and blot. I go every class period, I hope my peers dont think im bulimic or have bladder problems.

Only very rarely do I blot in public, it's just so embarrassing and gross because I completely fill up a sheet or 2.

What about you?

I've had acne and oily skin for about 7 years now, but I finally found something that actually works. I have tried every topical you could think of, antibiotic, etc. The only thing that has helped was accutane, which I ended up taking a 2nd time because my oil and acne slowly started to come back once I was off of it. My acne has been about 90% clear for the past year after finishing my second course of accutane, but my oil slowly kept getting worse day by day.
The Cure: Urine Therapy
I know it sounds gross, but if you are like me and really are desperate to have a normal looking face; this could be the solution for you. I only apply it externally (actually drinking my pee is beyond my limits). I was reading about it for the last month or so and finally decided to give it a try since I haven't read a single bad thing about it. This is the first time in my life since I was about 13 that my skin has looked perfectly clear and oil free.
I'll be checking the thread every once in a while if you have any questions about it. Don't get gross'd out by it, it really isn't as bad as it sounds. Try to keep an open mind.

I have severly oily skin. No amount of b5 stopped this, neither did zinc. I read somewhere that a micro amount of Accutane, such as 2.5g or 5g, could be used to stop some oil production, rather than going on a high dosage to get rid of acne.
Does anyone have any information on this? I searched this question onliner and found no answer.
Thanks.((:

Hello, I've noticed recently that my hair is becomming fairly oily by midafternoon, and I'm not really sure why. I'm considering switching shampoos, but I'm not really sure if that's the problem. Here are the products I'm currently using.
Head and Shoulders shampoo - been using it for... well, a really, really long time, like since I was in middle school.
Oxy Cleansing pads - use morning and night, been using for 1-2 years now.
Tea Tree Oil - Just started using this about a month ago, and I love it. It does dry out my skin, which isn't really a bad thing, especially considering how oily my forehead would usually get. I've been using TTO morning and night as well, just after using the oxy pads.
I'm not really sure if I should change my shampoo or try some other product. What are your suggestions?

A salicylic acid-lactic acid combo did what antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, essential oils, tea tree oil, fish oils, low-sugar diet, blotting papers, Retin-A, and even Accutane could not do - normalized my sebum production, cleared pores, cleared blotchiness, and dramatically reduced acne.
I've been creating this at home for less than a week, but it appears that
*Moderator edit, URL removed - read the board rules. * (10% salicylic acid + 5% lactic acid) for a good price (about $12).
I purchase pure salicylic acid powder (4 oz $6) and lactic acid (4 oz $4) from
*Moderator edit, URL removed - read the board rules. * and mix it with aloe gel and hyaluronic acid.
--- Lactic acid is moisturizing, and my skin loves the low pH (use gloves and goggles when handling)
--- Salicylic acid is antimicrobrial and penetrates pores and oil (allowing other ingredients to penetrate)
--- Hyaluronic acid retains moisture without oil
I start with low percents of acids so that my skin can adjust without the excessive stinging and flaking often associated with acids and peels.
You could mix small quantities of ACNE STOP into aloe gel and hyaluronic acid and gradually increase the concentration so that your skin adjusts. Some people have tried stronger spot treatments with Q-tips. I'll be trying this later.
Literature states that salicylic acid becomes more effective at 4% concentration. At first, the low concentration didn't seem to alter anything. However, as the concentration increased, my skin responded immediately.
If you're too young or too busy to create your own, you can try pre-formulated ACNE STOP. Tell other oily skin sufferers that this could help.
I have VERY OILY skin, and I am AMAZED! My skin is now slightly oily and not dripping with oil like a Texas oil field. I never thought that this would be possible. And because pores are clearer, acne is less likely to form. Truly remarkable! Aside from these three ingredients and aloe gel, I don't use any other acne treatments. Sometimes I only wash with water, but my skin still looks normal because of salicylic acid and lactic acid. This is the best method for controlling oil that I have discovered.

Hello all!
My acne seems to be nicely under control from lymecycline and azelaic acid (skinoren). My only problem is oily skin. I was on finacea which didnt leave my skin as matte as skinoren, and subsequently started pissing about using paulas choice carbon masks every few days, milk of magnesia nearly every morning and night, exfoliating with 2% beta hydroxy every day, plus I recently bought OC eight and none of the above have really helped with the oiliness!!!
I switched to skinoren in the meantime which if memory serves was very good at keeping my skin matte, but dont know why it isnt doing the job now? My theory is that all this other stuff im doing to my skin, rather than help my oiliness issues, is making them worse. It's worst during the day when I get to work and then about an hour into my shift my nose will start to get shiny then by about midday im having to blot almost constantly to keep things under control, which is near impossible!!
Can anyone back up this hunch with a theory or just plain agree with my assumption?
Any advice/opinions would be very welcome.

This is really my problem. Shiny, oily and reddish skin. I also have dark marks on my face left by acne.
Firstly, let me tell you how I treat my acne. I used a cleanser with tea tree oil beads and then put on a Benzac 5% BP. Before, I put on a moisturizer but then it clogged my skin. Whiteheads starts to pop-up. And so I decided not to put on a moisturizer after putting BP. Because, anyway, my skin is very oily. Also, when I'm exposed to the sun, I get a flaming red face with a burning feeling.
I don't want to stop using BP since it shows good results. My acne is starting to disapper.
Another problem I have is that there are dark marks left by acne.
Please can anyone help me get rid of the oil on my face and dark marks? I tried to put on Maybelline Clear Smooth face powder (just a little of it, it's non-comedogenic according to the box), so that my face would look fresh and less oily. But usually, if I leave it on my face for a long time, new pimples will start to appear the next day.
Please help me with this problem.
Thanks

Hey everyone,
I'm new here, and I've been trying my own regimen for the past week. I've never had severe acne by anymeans, but its been bad enough and I've had a bad habit of of popping any zit or blackhead I've ever had which has left me with a lot of, well, spots. I'm multiracial, so i've got a caramel skin tone, but these "spots" just stick out really bad. so, after years of this bad popping habit, I've gone cold turkey, and decided that not only was I going stop popping, but also, that I'm going to get really serious about sticking to a regimen.
Needless to say, it's been hard, really hard. I've never drank much water, so I've been stepping up with that, drinking a shit ton everyday, Ive been doing all the right things with washing my face, but my skin is getting worse, I seldom had white heads before and now ive got several big ones, and I'm literally ashamed of them. not to mention, as soon as I wash my face, with any product it just gets really oily again, its like a defensive mechanism, my face battling any sort of self improvement. is there anything i can do several times a day to de-grease my face? because simply washing it twice leaves me with a whole greasy day in between washing.
I won't pop these zits, which is hard for me, I've been keeping my chin up, and walking around with pride, but god damn. someone help me out here? is it supposed to get worse before it gets better?

I have had oily skin for a few months, although it was never too much of a problem as it has been in the past two months.
However, during these past five days, the oiliness of my skin has dramatically increased (if that's even possible. :/)
-Every morning I wake up to an EXtREME oil slick!
.-And around an hour after washing, the oil starts up again.
I have no idea what caused this sudden increase in oil. ):

So, I was searching through someone's channel on YouTube for cheap beauty tips, and I noticed a video on her profile marked "Kitty Litter Facial Mask".
Video's here, by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-x6hCI9X0g...feature=channel
What she does is uses cat litter, (clean and unscented), as a facial mask to detox your skin. She uses two tablespoons and a decent amount of water to make it muddy, along with an oil for her skin, and then heats it up and uses it as a facial mask.
If you watch the video, the thing about it being volcanic ash and good for your skin makes sense.
But I was wondering . . .
Has anyone tried it? Or heard of it before? It's a first for me.

Has anyone ever had dehydrated skin that they have rectified? I really, really need advice.
Please don't recommend Glycerin+Water nor Hyaluronic Acid. I have tried those and they are temporary fixes that do NOT work for me.
What did you do to fix the problem?
I would love to here your success stories.
I am thinking of not washing my face at ALL with anything for a couple of days. Probably about a week and see what that does for me.
I wasn't born with dehydrated skin. I just used way too many harsh cleansers all at once and it really dried my skin out .... well, it really disrupted my acid mantle.
Right now I just but a Hydrosol (Rosewater) on my face then covered that with olive oil to help seal the moisture in.
Also, I drink lots of water and I'm trying to exercise more. Don't recommend that either.

Much love <3

In 2007 my skin type was normal.
in the beggining of 2008 my skin became oily for some reason probably because i didn't shower frequently
now it's 2009 and im still stuck with oily skin
ps its always super oily on my nose and forehead
I want my normal skin type back!- i don't wear makeup or anything
- now i shower daily
- i use facial cleansers for oily skin
- i tried using the avc but in the long run it changed the pH of my skin and made it even more oilyer
- i changed my diet and avoid oily, greasy food and junk food
- i always drink water
- i constantly pull my hair back to avoid it touching my face
- i always have tried oil blotting paper but after the oil is absorbed the oily comes back after 2 hours
- i use acne medications but now i don't need it because i don't have acne anymore
is there anyway i can change my skin type permanently?

When I wake up in the morning, my skin is fine, little to no oil. I take a shower, without using any cleanser, just water, and roughly an hour or two later, my forehead is really oily/shiny. What should I do?

Please take the time to read this, I've been suffering 8+ years and need any help I can get.I wasn't sure where to put this, so hopefully I can get some help here.
Quick History of my skin:
-7 Years ago started getting pimples and blackheads on the face on the nose and around the mouth, and I overused way too many acne products which I believe damaged the skin/made it worse. (at one point I also had bad acne on my forehead, but I stopped using products there and my forehead has been fine ever since)
-I have been seeing many dermatologists since then (about 8 of them) and have not had any success with treating my skin.
-My skin has become very oily and at the same time very red/itchy/dry, I believe dehydrated.
-About three years ago I was put on Accutane which cleared up the acne, reduced the oil, and overall made the skin feel a lot better.
-A few months after finishing my 6 month course on Accutane, the oil began to return and soon after the dry/dehydrated skin returned with the oil.
-Based on the previous statement, I googled and conducted tons of research why my skin would be getting dry/itchy/red as the oil was returning (very weird considering oily skin is suppose to make your skin less dry).
-I came up with the conclusion that I had seborrheic dermatitis, and went to a few dermatologists who tried to treat me for it.
-None of the treatments for seborrheic dermatitis worked, and I was getting desperate to try anything. Also I should mention that my skin never really had the peeling that seborrheic dermatitis causes. My skin is always just very dry feeling, gets blotchy/red, and itches while at the same time being oily.
Flashforward to today: I requested to be put back on Accutane and have been using it for about three months. I was on a very low 10mg dose, but recently stopped because my skin been getting severely dry. The reason I wanted to be put on it was because I was hoping if the oil stopped, the dry/itchy/red skin would also disapear, which it did for about a month or two, but returned after I had a bad reaction to a new moisturizer I used for a few days. (CeraVe).
So the Accutane wasn't doing what I was expecting it to do, so now I'm thinking I just have severly dehydrated skin, which also gets oily OR another skin condition that I'm unaware of, possibly an allergy. The past few nights I've been using Aquaphor on my face and lips to try and hopefully reduce the itchy/dry/red skin, but the only thing that has happened is my skin is it has become more oily(stopped the Accutane), more red, and itchy.
So this makes no sense to me. I'm getting desperate for answers and a treatment. I'll re-read this later and see if it even makes sense or if I've left something out.
My Regimen for the past few years has been wash with Purpose Gentle Cleanser, and apply moisturizer. Currently I'm using Neutrogena Oil-Free Fresh Moisture, Jojoba oil + Twinlab NaPca with Aloe, and OC 8 to control the oil a bit. Basically I've been using the most gentle products, and still have oily/dry/itchy skin.
Please help

-Yesac

So as I get older my face becomes more and more oily! I went to the derm and he reccomended OC 8. I did some research and its supposed to give "matte like" skin for 8 hours. It also has benefits to the skin as well and I was just wondering If anyone has heard of it and/or use(d) it. Thanks and replies are appreicated!

Im not a doctor or anything but i really think the whole reason we have acne is because we constantly wash and use topicals, cleansers and moisturizers on our face.. unlike the past where we only washed when we could find a water source and washed with lard or soaps.
I think looking at modern teenage kids who are constantly using soaps and topicals with tons of ingredients that soak into the skin you begin to see acne and redness, dry flaky or oily skin. Although i do believe that hormones play a roll in acne, your sebum glands are active during the hormonal changes so definatly hormones play some role.. but not intirely.
I think people here have demonized sebum to much without any further investigation as so WHY we have them in the first place. Some say its critical that every day you should be cleaning your face with something or another, and scrubbing your face with some product that has thousands of chemicals and fragrances and alcahols and peroxides. I think its completely wrong and contributing to acne by constantly cleaning your face, and not only is it not contributing to preventing acne its making your skins barrier thinner and more vulnerable to infections (acne) and thus kicking your sebum glands into high gear.
Upon personal experience i noticed the more i clean/wash my skin with or without products the more sebum i produce because im more dry in certain areas. A day or so of not washing the less tight my skin is and its more flexible. Sebum acts like a lubricant that keeps moisturizer in and keeps the harmful elements out.
I think people today that think they are know-it-alls and say sebum is the main cause for acne are completely wrong, why do we have sebum glands in the first place? Each part of our body has a job to do, to protect and heal itself.. why would our body have sebum glands that are only there to make bumps called acne? My personal experience with acne has been like this, for several years ive been washing washing washing my face with either some product, some soap, or with anything i can imagine.. to this day after doing this i still have acne... why? My theory is all the products we use, with chemicals, my theory is because we use all these things that build up and create residues in the crevices of our skin, i think all these moisturizers, cleansers, astringents, topicals, you name it... all of these things in my opinion create acne in the first place.
I think the main problem with acne is the chemicals you use leave a residue in the face causing your face to explode in bumps and redness. but thats just my opinion

Hello,
Myself and from what I can tell many of you have been looking for a new way to help with oily skin and large pores.. other than accutane, b5, SA, ext ext
I was looking around and found this (for some reason this site isnt letting me post a link??? go here www.davidloh.sg/minimize/ibotox.htm)
And they mention using Intradermal Botox to tighten the muscles in the skin that control pore size (erector pili), thus leading to less oily skin..
Idk sounds like it might work I know that alot of people who do have oily skin tend to have larger pores so there is some sort of correlation I would say..
Anyone with any experience with this or heard of someone doing this? I wonder if they have to inject into every pore or the surrounding skin from injection area is affected?

My face gets really by the time I wash it in the morning and end school 6 hours later. My oily forehead causes my bangs to get oily and it looks really messed up and greasy. If anyone could advise me an oil free cleanser that will keep the oil of my face for at least 6 hours, I will be very grateful.
Cheers,

I've been using Cetaphil, but my skin has become quite oily so I am in search of another product that works well but has more of a matte finish.
Also, I'm considering using pantothenic acid and/or fish oil pills to help reduce oil. Can anyone make a product recommendation and provide links to good websites to buy from?
Thanks

I think I have pretty oily skin. Every time I finish taking a shower or washing my face, my face seems pretty oily within two hours. In some mirrors I look pretty OK, but whenever I'm outside and I look inside car windows or mirrors, the sun seems to reflect off my face! And then I touch my cheek w/ my wrist and see oil has transported off my face onto my wrist! It's sooo annoying.
Anyone else feel me on this?
