I've been having jawline/neck pimples forming these past few months but I can't pinpoint the reason. Two weeks ago, I became ill and ended up eating lots of bread and soup. Last week, I noticed my jawline looked a lot better. However, this week, my left jawline has been breaking out like crazy! I've been cleaning it/doing the ususal, but for some reason, literally 5 pimples are flamed. Sad part is, I'm ONLY struggling with jawline acne and no where else (forehead, chin, nose) is clear. I've been dealing this for 2 years now and it's so frustrating because my jawline WON'T GET better. Could it be possible that the stuff I'm eating is causing an "allergic" reaction? Should I get an allergy test? (isn't it pretty expensive sending in the blood work to get tested?) I really don't know what to do anymore. I even tried taking zinc 50mg but that didn't help either.

Hey everyone im new here. But i am just starting a new diet because i believe thats the only way my acne will diminish.
So what im eating at the moment is as much Bananas, apples, mandarins, kiwifruit and pretty much any fruit. Im also eating Pumpkin seeds , brazil nuts, and almonds, and for breakfast i hardboil 4 eggs and eat them plain. And when i can i will eat chicken, meat, salmon.
I am not sure though if this diet is going to affect my health , please shed some light on what i should add or remove from this.

When your craving something naughty I ussually eat these instead since they dont break me out and taste really nice and easy to make.
http://www.the-gi-diet.org/recipes/banana_cookies/ thats where I got the idea however I changed the recipe a little to make them lower GI. Use the instructions on the site - they are really easy to make aswell!
4 ripe bananas
230g Soya flour (can use rice or potatoe but increases the GI)
2 eggs
3 tablespoons olive oil
½ teaspoon baking powder (gluten free pref)
Now I add a ton of
linseed and flaked almonds into the mix to increase the amount of fat.
I also add chopped
prunes since prunes are very low GI aswell and taste really nice.
190°C/380°F/Gas Mark 5 for 15 mins or 20 - 25 if you prefer them a little less "cakey".
Then stuff your big fat face. Enjoy nom nom nom.

Recently I had a day where all I ate, all day, was just tangerines. Nothing else. No rice, no meat, nothing. Just tangerines. I probably had at least 50 tangerines all day.
I thought that the next day my acne would be worse because of all the sugars I was taking in from this very sweet fruit, but my acne actually got better.
Also, these days I haven't been putting anymore chemicals on my face.
Maybe all we need to do is just stop consuming animal fats/cholesterol? Sebum is, afterall, made from those fats and cholesterols and can only get those materials from the foods we put in our bodies.
A tangerine is basically just water and sugar and a little thin sac and vitamins. No way the body can produce sebum from that. Plus, all that vitamin C will boost the immune system and help fight acne. Also, tangerines are rich in many other vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin A, B5, Niacin, Riboflavin, etc.
One tangerine contains nearly 100 percent daily value for vitamin C and 30 percent daily value for vitamin A.

Hey guys!
I made a few posts a while ago, but I haven't been on much recently due to working, friends, and the many other joys of moving out of home

hehe.
My situation: I'm an eighteen year old female vegetarian with a limited intake of dairy products. I consume a lot of nuts, drink soy milk (in moderation), eat lentils and some other legumes, red quinoa (a complete protein source high in iron), brown rice, pumpkin seeds, tahini, am trying to include tofu in my diet, few eggs (I sometimes feel a bit queasy eating eggs, so I'm only trying to incorporate them into my diet slowly again).. etc.. so I'm doing okay.
My problem: Even these 'protein filled' vegetarian foods can actually be pretty low in protein. I don't think I'm deadly deficient of course, but I doubt I get the 50-90g I need (if the RDA is different to this let me know!!) I have been experiencing extra hair loss lately, which is apparently a sign of low protein. And I plan to start excercising more soon, so I think I need a booster.
My question:
What protein supplements would you advise me to take, that wont effect my skin too much?I'm not going to buy a sugar loaded or flavoured 'protein shake' mix, ew haha.
I'm considering either a soy protein isolate or a whey protein isolate, and putting a spoonful into a fruit smoothie or something. Taking it with real food, you know??
I know there are a lot of gym junkies in here, so what would you recommend??
(I'm NOT trying to bulk up, a more toned body would be nice but I'm not planning on hitting the gym daily or anything. I'm just looking to help my body)

Thanks guys!!!

There was some hoopla a few months ago when I made a thread entitled "vitamn d for acne" or something like that. I posted a small blog written in 1937 on how high doses of vitamin D over a period of months improved or cured acne.
I've taken vitamin A since April 1st 2008 and vitamin D April 27th 2008. I've taken both before in the form of cod liver oil (providing about 14000 IU of vit A and 1400 IU of vit D per tablespoon or 14g) but it never really cured my acne...just kept it at bay.
My acne was mostly large pores and oily skin. Pimples were not large in numbers.
It's been almost 5 months since I took large doses of vitamin A and 4 months since I took large doses of vitamin D. I really didn't see real results until maybe 3.5 to 4 months into the regimen. How much did I take? I started off on 100,000 IU of vitamin A/day and worked my way up to 700,000 IU/day then settled back down to 200,000 IU/day. But I never took less than 100,000 IU. I don't think the large doses speed up the process (just because you give someone more money, doesn't mean they work faster either, there's a limit as to how fast someone or something goes) but it does allow the body (namely the liver) to store more of it. On vitamin D I took 4000 IU for every 100,000 IU of vitamin A that I took then bumped it up to around 60,000 IU/day (I increased my D dosage each time my A dosage went up). I took vitamin K2 (up to 25mg/day...which is A LOT) as well during the time, but not sure what effect that had to do with it.
I've seen people on Accutane but never seem to get rid of large pores and blackheads and they still have oily skin. But there are some people who've taken Accutane and have all those problems disappear.
Just to let you guys know, I've never taken Accutane...so my results aren't bias (whatever you want to call bias). Some people questioned my sanity on taking such massive amounts of vitamins, but are they really massive or just massive in comparison to the paltry limits set by the FDA (or USDA or whatever)? Your body can produce 10's of thousands of IUs of vitamin D in a matter of minutes (about 10 to 40, depending on your skin tone), yet no one has ever died from the "massive" vitamin D produced from your skin. Yet it seems massive because the RDA is 400 IU, so something like 20,000 IU is "massive"...even though your body was meant to create this much. There have been cultures and even people today who consumed massive amounts of vitamin A with no ill effects. 5000 IU, the RDA, is barely what your body uses in a day anyways...and most people consume far less of this. I'm talking about retinol, pure natural vitamin A. Nothing synthetic (no palmitate or acetate) and nothing pro-vitamin A (no carotenes). Vitamin D must be consumed as D3 and nothing else. Even people with liver disfunction has the ability to hydroxylate cholecalciferol...it's one of the first and last functions of the liver even when it is damaged.
As far as symptoms goes, chelitis (chap lips) is the only symptom that I've had. And remember I took 730,000 IU of vitamin A along with 63,000 IU of vitamin D at the same time with 25mg of vitamin K2.
You generally can use any brand of vitamin A and D, just make sure they are in the form of retinol (usually fish liver) and cholecalciferol (D3). I use Carlson's only because their softgels are very small and very easy to swallow (I took 20 of the vitamin D3 softgels and 12 of the vitamin A softgels all in one swallow...it is THAT easy) and because they are SOY FREE. I'm allergic to soy anyways. Even though the oil used is not what I recommend (safflower and sunflower), the amount of the oil used is so little and the benefits of vitamin A and D3 are so monumental that it far outweighs the oils being used in the supplements.
Of course I also take a lot of minerals in the form of dairy and meat (I take a separate magnesium supplement). I don't believe that vitamins alone can do the trick, but if they can they don't do the trick well. Just make sure to get enough of the three main minerals: calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Milk contains plenty of phosphorus (heck, most foods do) and calcium. You can get magnesium from whole grains and vegetables but you have to deal with phytates and oxalates that hampers absorption.
There's much more than Vitamin D and A does than just promote skin health...but I always believed that there have never been a serious use for any drug, prescription or OTC, and that acne is really a result of our environment. Lack of sun during peak UVB hours, bad food choices like hydrogenated oils and MSG, and just exposure to excessive lead and dioxins.
So what's my advice on how to start off? 100,000 IU/day of vitamin A and 10,000 IU of vitamin D/day for 5 months should pretty much get rid of your acne or calm it down at least 80%. Taking more won't speed up the process though. But it does allow your body to store more for later. A maintenence dose after that would probably be like 30,000 to 50,000 IU vitamin A and 4000 to 7000 IU vitamin D.
My pores have shrunk, my skin is FAR LESS oily, and I have FAR FEWER blackheads. My eczema has really calmed down too and so has my psoriasis. It sounds far-fetched and it sounds like I'm BSing but I've been to these forums for almost 3 years now (look at my profile). Do you really think I would lie to any of you? I'd have nothing to gain (and evidence to back me up if you want it). Seriously it's mega cheap. A bottle of carlson's 25,000 IU vitamin A (from cod liver oil - 250 softgels) is like $15...that's a 2 month supply. A bottle of carlson's 2,000 IU vitamin D (from cholecalciferol - 360 softgels) is about $11. That's a 2.5 month supply if you take 100,000 IU and 10,000 IU of vitamin A and D respectively. A grand total of $13/month (minus shipping)!!!!
I'm not trying to promote the carlson's brand, I gave reasons why I prefer it. Any other brand would work too. My local safeway sells 100 of 1000 IU vitamin D3 tablets for $2!!!!
If you're not into supplements you can always take cod liver oil (like 2 tablespoons) and liverwurst and get some sun during 10AM to 3PM for 40 minutes. It's not too hard to get 100,000 IU of vitamin A through diet. You can be creative and make fried rice from liverwurst (it's really tasty). It'll kind of look like dirty rice, but eh.
Lastly, consume mostly saturated fat. It helps your body use vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids. Avoid vegetable oils at all cost! A slip up here and there won't hurt, but don't make them part of your regimen...it'll only slow your progress.
Any questions, please post them here...I want everyone to see the answers to the questions.

I usually never break out on my nose or around that area, but for the past two weeks its been a daily thing, I know its happening from drinking mineral water ( whole foods brand, mountain valley, saratoga springs), i've tried all brands, and all brands are in glass bottles, however i cannot figure out why this could be happening, i even tested their ph and hardness levels, im totally stumped, i switched to glass bottled water because i wanted to stay away from the toxicity of plastic, but i can't figure out why it would make me break out so terribly on my nose and nose only, any info is appreciated.....

http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/news/n...ugh-research-onThis study is primarily focused on the role of lycopene in prostate cancer, but I can see how it's directly applicable to acne because:
"Lycopene interfered with local androgen activation by down-regulating 5-alpha-reductase, the key enzyme for the transformation of testosterone to its most active form dehydrotestosterone (DHT). As a consequence, the expression of androgen-regulated target genes were also reduced. In addition, lycopene decreased the expression of two prostatic cytokines, IGF-I and IL-6, both regarded as risk factors for prostate cancer."
It interferes with both androgens and IGF-1, two key factors in acne. I wonder if lycopene would have an effect on male pattern baldness given its interference with the production of DHT.
Anyone have any lycopene supplements around they want to try taking and see if it helps?

It has been about 2 weeks now and I'm still in a constant state of breaking out. I've been dosing 10-20 grams a day, atleast over 10 grams each day. I keep hearing that with high doses the initial breakout should be within the first week, but it seems as I accrue the dosage I resume breaking out more critically each time. I'm actually getting cystic pimples, normally they're not as large as the ones i've been getting recently. I'm curious to ask, is there anyone on this forum who has gone atleast two months and had no improvement or perhaps worsened condition? The side effects are no longer palatable at these high dosages, I could deal with it if I were to see any improvement at all but that doesn't seem to be the case.
At the moment I feel I should give it two months, I'm tempted to walk down the Accutane road though. With all the great things i've heard about pantothenic acid's connection to acne makes it difficult to accept what's happening. I can't stay focused on anything else other than my skin at the moment, it was much more negligible before starting b5. I feel it's abnormal to still be breaking out....is it? Am I the anomaly or has anyone else had a similar experience that was soon rectified over time?

Hello everyone!
I'm so tired of taking supplement after supplement only for a new side effect to appear or it to stop working all of a sudden. Something works for a month or two then stops. As of this day the only thing that has ever got me 99% clear was B5 then came the nasty side effects like extremely sensitive teeth, night sweats, and huge weight loss but we aren't talking about B5 now... A few weeks ago I was about to order another bottle of Pantethine when I noticed a product that I never seen before on Vitacost's website and it was Praventin.
At first I thought, nice another crappy product take advantage of my skin situation. But now after a little research (and little is all that I could find), now I am curious. There are a few products out there with Praventin as the main ingredient but what would work best if it even works at all. It is a derivative of a milk protein after all and we all know by now how dairy products can make acne worse.
Here is just one of the few actual links that I found about this product:
http://www.health24.com/news/DietFood_News...-3420,36397.aspVery interesting huh? A product made from milk to clear acne? Kind of an paradox. I am actually concidering purchasing to try but I can't decide what to get. Vitacost has their own version of this but it is expensive and I had nasty luck with anything made by NSI (Vitacost brand). The other brands have added different kinds of herbs and other stuff that supposed to help acne but I have a feeling that it is all hype that some scientist or marketer with beautiful skin and doesn't need these products put together for a marketing ploy.
Hmmm Need more information here. Oh well I'm hoping to order tomorrow to try one form or another of this stuff. I'm getting desparate now. I'm almost 30 and I still break out like a teenager. I have tried everything I could find and research internally and out and I need a final solution. (And NOT Leo Keison's final solution! RIP OFF!) Sorry to vent here.
Well anyway anyone try this yet? I don't want to do this alone. Any resources on this Praventin that someone could post would be appreciated.
Regards,
Dave

Hello again,
after hearing that sugar slows down healing processes, I thought it might be wise to find out how much I should be taking.
I normally eat 2-3 pieces of fruit a day, and I personally wouldn't consider that a lot - Well, at least until now. Basically, my red marks aren't disappearing, and I eat quite well and get enough sleep. I just can't understand why they won't leave, so maybe sugar is playing a part?
This does relate to naturally occuring sugars, right? Because I've completed cut out processed sugars.
Thanks everybody.

Hello,
Does anyone know anything about Gaspari Size On? Any stories on how it affects acne?
I just recently got back into bodybuilding and im looking for a decent pre/intra workout drink. Gaspari in my opinion is the best company, since their Myofusion protein is the only one which doesnt break me out and in fact it made my acne better:) (It contains also vitamins such as Vit-A,C,D,E etc).
Any advice would be highly appreciated,
Thanks

I just found this information about what are called phyto-androgens, the "male" equivalent of phyto-estrogens. They are apparently able to bind to testosterone receptors, imitating androgens, AND stimulating more of your own androgenic activity! Since androgens are solidly associated with acne, I need to find a list of which plants contain these! One food I've found that does is coconut. Can anyone help me compile a list of phyto-androgen-containing foods, and/or find out more about these?
There probably is a balance of phytoestrogens with phytoandrogens in many plants, but I think some foods probably lean more toward to androgenic than the estrogenic and vice versa. I don't know those ratios, but finding a list that contains phytoandrogens at all is a start...
http://www.aphrodisiology.com/phytoandrogens**Edit: I will add foods containing phyto-androgens here as I find them**
citrus (triterpenoid fatty acids)
wheat germ oil
coconut
hibiscus
spinach
legumes (peanuts are legumes, are they androgenic?)
celery
parsnips
corn
oats (Avena sativa)
garlic (Allium sativum)
onions
pine nuts

So I've been suffering acne for a long time. I am 22 now, and it's hard to deal with. I been switching on and off with my dermatologist. He just gives me the same prescriptions and topical creams. It's only short-lived.
I stumbled across the acne e book and bought it. It made a lot of sense.
I also stumbled across the DEATH OF ACNE website, which has the same message as the the E-book: Acne is a symptom and the root cause is internal.
Antibiotics, Accutane, Topicals, Etc. they are all short -term, but they will keep coming back.
IS it TRUE that acne can be cured if you clean your insides?
and also, most importantly, I was curious to see if anyone actually finished these programs out and have become clear?
The systems take a long time to do.

Hey guys, new to the board and I had to spread the news.
So about a year ago, I got a new job and around the same time, I started eating soy yogurt because I am mildly lactose intolerant (yes I'm weird). Anyways, for the past year, I have had ridiculous acne breakouts that I haven't had since I was in high school. I could not figure out what it was, I tried everything to help it, but the sides of my cheeks and my chin were just terrible.
Last week, I was sitting at my desk and just opened a new cup of soy yogurt when I realized, what if it was soy??? So I looked online (dunno why I didn't realize this before) and found out all this info on soy causing acne breakouts due to an allergic reaction.
So I put down the spoon and stopped eating soy. It's been a week and my face is almost 100% cleared up. So if you eat anything with a good amount of soy in it and have acne, I would suggest a trial run of not eating it and see how it works out.

There is a potent anti-androgen called
DIM which clears acne in 1-2 weeks. Both males and females have been stunned by the fast results. Not only does it have anti-androgenic effects, but it also reduces free radical hormones and promotes estrogen metabolism for both genders.
About DIM: It is about $10 and you can purchase it on froogle.com. DIM (Diindolylmethane) is from isolated cruciferous veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, bok choi and has no known side effects. It has been proven to fight off many cancers. DIM has anti-androgenic effects, so it stops your body from producing acne. DIM is also a bodybuilding supplement. Both males and females can take it, although you should not take DIM if you are pregnant. Taking several pills of DIM is equal to eating several pounds of vegetables. DIM has been tested since 1975 and has no known side effects. DIM should be taken during a meal because it can cause stomach discomfort (like Zinc).
DIM brings acne to a halt
immediately.Where to purchase DIM: Go to www.froogle.com and search for: "DIM Diindolylmethane". DIM is not usually sold at health food stores or in vitamin shops (call and ask).
Suggested Dose: 100mg per day
What to expect: Some people on this forum have tried doubling their dosage, however, it seems that results take just as long as someone taking the recommended dose. Also, please give the product a full 2 weeks to see results.
Here is a poll which says how many people have taken DIM and seen results:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Your-DIM-...ou-t191165.htmlJust wanted to tell all of you!
Note: You should not use this product if you are on oral birth control. You should not use this product if you can become or are pregnant or lactating. Anti-androgens change the formation of the reproduction organs of the baby.**Note: I edited this post so that people wouldnt rush out and buy Genistein without thoroughly reading about its link to Leukemia. So, I'm only posting about DIM instead.

BREWER'S YEAST (Updated 1/28/2007)
What is Brewer's Yeast?
Brewer's yeast is derived from the unicellular fungus Saccharomyces Cerevisiae
Brewer's yeast is an inactive yeast, meaning the yeasts have been killed and have no leavening power. It is the yeast grown on foods such as sugar beets, or the yeast that remains after beer making. It is used as a nutrient supplement to increase the intake of amino acids, minerals, B vitamins, and other chemicals beneficial to skin repair. Brewer's yeast comes powdered (the most potent form), in flakes (best for health shakes), and in tablets.
How Can Brewer's Yeast Be Good For Acne And Overall Health?
1. Skin Respiratory Factor
SRF as it's called is a substance known for it's ability to trigger and accelerate wound healing. It is found in many hemorrhoidal creams, cosmetics, and wound healing products. The chemical identity of SRF is unknown. SRF found in products is originally isolated from yeast.
2. Beta Glucans
Beta glucan is a scientifically proven biological defense modifier (BDM) that nutritionally potentiates and modulates the immune response. Beta glucans are fiber type complex sugar molecules (polysaccharides). They are used as an immunostimulant. Glucans stimulate your white blood cells called Macrophages into action, thereby inducing a cascade of positive immune responses. There have been hundreds of experimental studies done on Beta Glucans since the 1960's. Reserch indicates that when taken orally Beta Glucans speed healing of damaged tissue. In order to better understand the process through which Beta Glucans brings about a healing response via pathogen removal it is necessary to read more about Macrophage. Macrophage wiki located here.......... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrophage
3. RNA - Ribonucleic Acid
RNA has been shown to have immunodulatory Activity.
Definition of Immunomodulatory:
Capable of modifying or regulating one or more immune functions.
Although this is mentioned in much research I have come across regarding Brewer's Yeast, I have yet to come to a more complete understanding of how injesting RNA of this inactive yeast is beneficial to health or skin. I am including it because from it's prevalence in research indicates it's importance, thus should be noted. If someone wants to elaborate on this please IM me and I will edit this post accordingly.
4. Myo-Inositol
This is the nutritionally active form of Inositol, it is vital to many biological processes in the body. Of all the biological processes Inositol is involved in, the most notable to this article are
- Nerve Guidance
- Gene Expression
- Seratonin Activity Modulation
- Cell Membrance Potential
- Breakdown Of Fats and Cholesterol Lowering
5. Para-Amino Benzoic Acid
PABA stimulates intestinal bacteria, which aids in production of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). PABA is a coenzyme and is involved in the production of blood cells, metabolism of protein, and is important for healthy skin, hair pigmentation, and intestinal health.
NOTE: There is A LOT of information on PABA on the internet, mostly good, but some bad. Generally speaking PABA is widely studied and used in products. It is sometimes referred to as vitamin Bx but differs in how it behaves from other B vitamins. If someone wants to write a paragraph detailing the specifics of PABA IM me and I will include it.
6. Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)
Brewer's Yeast is considered a good source of this vitamin that many of you have come to know and love. Pantothenic Acid is needed to form Coenzyme A, which is critical in the metabolisation of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The most noted effect as reported on Acne.org of this vitamin is reduced oil (sebum) production on the body including face, trunk, and especially the back. This effect is almost always reported after a person has taken extremely large doses (more than 4 grams) daily for 1 month or more.
7. Zinc
Brewer's Yeast is considered a good source of Zinc (form?). The benefits of Zinc on skin are widely known and many studies have been conducted proving the link between increased levels of Zinc and improved skin conditions, namely acne vulgaris.
8. Choline
Choline is a nutrient, essential for cardiovascular and brain function, and for cellular membrane composition and repair.
Choline assists in controlling your weight as well as cholesterol levels, keeping cell membranes healthy and in preventing gallstones. It is also most useful in the maintenance of the nervous system, assisting memory and learning, and may help to fight infections, including hepatitis and AIDS. Choline is critical for normal membrane structure and function.
Choline is the major precursor of betaine, and it is used by the kidneys to maintain water balance and by the liver as a source of methyl-groups for methionine formation. It is also used to produce the important neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
9. Folic Acid
Folic acid is a water soluble B vitamin.
Folic acid works along with vitamin B-12 and vitamin C to help the body digest and utilize proteins and to synthesize new proteins when they are needed. It is necessary for the production of red blood cells and for the synthesis of DNA (which controls heredity and is used to guide the cell in its daily activities).
Folic acid also helps with tissue growth and cell function. In addition, it helps to increase appetite when needed and stimulates the formation of digestive acids.
10. Copper
Copper is an essential trace mineral present in all body tissues. Copper, along with iron, helps in the formation of red blood cells. It also helps in keeping the blood vessels, nerves, immune system, and bones healthy.
Copper is a component of prolyl and lysyl hydoxylases, enzymes involved in collagen synthesis. Because of this, connective tissue-rich tissues such as capillaries, scar tissue, and bone matrix are most sensitive to copper status.
The following is a list of other vitamins and minerals Brewer's Yeast contains in significant amounts but vary from Brand to Brand.
FIBER (15%-25%)
ALL B-COMPLEX VITAMINS
16 out of 20 Amino Acids (Brewer's Yeast is 50%-55% protein by weight)
Chromium
Selenium
Magnesium
Phosphorus
General information
Thousands of people have reported success in using Brewer's Yeast to treat all forms of acne, especially cystic acne. Poeple who are allergic to yeast or have an extreme sensitivity should should consult a doctor before taking. It is very common to have an IB (initial breakout) in the first two weeks.
This yeast has been used for decades to treat almost every known ailment. It is very affordable and can be taken with or without food. I have found the powder to be a more potent form. I buy the powder form from Lewis Lab's. It's is a higher quality because it is grown on sugar beets, also lending to a good taste rather than bitter like the kind grown on beer.
Although this is yeast it's important to know that it will not promote candida or other yeast infections because the cells have been heated until dead, thus unless you have an allergy it will not cause you harm.
BREWER'S YEAST IS GLUTEN AND IODINE FREE.
note: the brand this article represents most is Lewis Labs Brewer's Yeast

So I've recently heard from a few people that oranges can somehow cause acne. The reason I am so alarmed is because I love oranges and they are a part of my regular diet. Does anyone care to shed some light?

First post, but I've lurked here for a while. : )
So I figured out one of the reasons why I was breaking out. Iodine. When I was taking multi-vitamins I figured it couldn't hurt. Yet, I was starting to break out more than usual.
What I found out is that it contained 150mg of Iodine. 150mg is the max any adult should have. Yet it's in a lot of foods, so I was easily going over by 250+mg. So for the past week I have tried to cut down on foods with iodine and have only had 1 whitehead pop up.
And here's a little quote.
"Iodine is a factor in some people who are prone to acne," says James E. Fulton, Jr., M.D., Ph.D. " Iodine enters the body and mixes into the bloodstream, with the excess excreted through the oil glands. As it is excreted, it irritates the pores and brings on an acne flare-up."
So for me, excess iodine is what caused my acne flare ups. Just thought I would pass that along.
Good luck!

Dear all,
I've been experiencing mild/severe acne for the better part of 2 years now. It began when I was in 3rd class but any pimples I had were few and far between. It kicked of 2 years later and started around my mouth, my chin and forehead. Now my mouth, chin and forehead are clear, but the spots have moved on to my cheeks and jawline. I do not have any acne on my body. I am trying to find out what I can do to make myself clear up. At the moment I think I am living very healthy. I start of the day with some brown bread and 2 pieces of fruit. Usually these are either mandarins, apples, or bananas. Around noon I take some more bread and fruit. I drink a lot of water. I make sure to eat lots of vegetables for dinner. I also eat potatoes and meat. I have abstained from fastfood for about a year now. I also eat or drink very few dairy products, usually none.
I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and train for about an hour. Afterwards I always go to the sauna or steam room. I have found this is good for my skin but read on here it is bad for your skin. If anyone knows something about this, I would very much like to hear it. I also go jogging in the woods 2-3 times a week. I take a shower daily. I do not eat any chocolate and barely eat any sweets. I do not drink sugar based drinks. Usually I only drink water and some tea from time to time. I have found that when I go out and drink too much, my skin has cleared up the next day, although this might just look so due to my crooked judgement. I also refrain from popping any pimples. I do not usually have whiteheads although they do come up from time to time. Usually once or twice each week. I have found that usually the 'lump' dissappears quite fast but I have a spot, a decoloration beneath my skin for some time. I have tried lots of things that supposedly helped, including clearasil cream wash, clearasil pads and I am currently taking pills, and I believe they do help a bit. If anyone has any tips, comments, or ideas, I would be very grateful.

Something I'm looking into:
ZAG enzyme (zinc-alpha-2-glycoprotein) which per Cordain:
QUOTE
there is an enzyme called ZAG that normally dissolves the proteins holding together skin cells lining the pore, so that they can flake away and not block the pore. But there is exciting new evidence showing that components of certain foods enter the bloodstream and inhibit ZAG, thus causing the skin cells lining the pore to stick together and thereby block the pore.
Also, definition found elsewhere: an enzymatic protein found in body fluids including sweat.
QUOTE
The main role of zincalpha2glyco-protein is breaking down lipids accumulation so it doesn't only work in the body to prevent the pore blockage but might used by the body to burn visceral fats while sparing muscles or lowering tryglicerides levels in diabetic subjects
Ok, so he says those 'certain foods' that inhibit ZAG are
lectins, antinutrient proteins found in all kinds of seeds. Cordain of course considers all legumes and grains to be inedible evils, but especially wheat, peanuts and soy.
However,
this article, not by Cordain, names wheat, peanuts, kidney beans and soy beans as most problematic, while others like broad beans (lima) not so much. And that soaking and sprouting destroy all to most lectins.
Note: There are many kinds of lima beans, btw, and if you soak properly and cook with garlic, onions and a little salt, taste absolutely nothing like those awful things they fed us in school. I've been buying giant Peruvian lima beans and they are delicious. And I've been looking for some kind of large white lima bean my sister had in Greece and sometimes available marinated where they sell olives. I glanced through Sally Fallon's book to see what the Weston Price people had to say about lectins since they are all about soaking grains, nuts, legumes or any other seed, but they seem to just be about the phytates. And if you search the Westonprice.org site for lectins, all that comes up is their anti-vegetarian and anti-soy rants. But if you want info on soaking legumes, grains and other seeds, westonprice.org and/or Fallon's book are good sources.
I also saw some reference to digestive enzymes that break down proteins being helpful breaking down lectins. Like
proteases. I'm looking into which proteases, but searches on lectins turn up so much research about cancers that I don't care to read through.

Hi. Well this is my story, and I will start posting my experiences with urine therapy (only topical, so far...).
NB: If I screw something up on here, give me a break: It's my first post.
HistoryWell I have had acne pretty damm bad since year 8. I'm now in uni. I tried everything. Week fasting, just drinking water. Many fruits/vegetables. Any and evety vitamin. Antibiotics (topical and oral). 4 retinoids. And eventually roaccutane. 90 mg/day (And I'm only 64kg). It worked, but my face was still really red. I don't know why. But it comes on and off regardless of medications. I came across the CSR about a year ago, and it didn't work all that well on me. So lately I have been doing alright, but it is comming back. I was back on minocycline, BP at night, retin-a in the morning. And pleanty of sun-block in between. And to be honest, the acne was better, but the redness was worse. My skin doesn't develop tolerance to the BP either.
A few days ago I was looking through these forums again, and I came across the urine therapy topic:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/heard-urine-works-t86622.html. I had heard of it before, for things like cancer. But not anything else. But then I read into it. Urine is sterile, and it isn't the bodies waste. I gave it some thought. At this moment, there's no way I could drink the stuff. No matter how pure, sterile, or good it is for me. But I could use it topically.
My experiences with urine therapy (UT)So I actually tried it yesterday. I pissed into a plastic container that I have, and put it all over my face. At first it stung a little. Like a tingling feeling. Then it felt good for the next few hours. Within 30 minutes, the redness was considerably minimized. Not drastic as of yet. But each day I'll do it as much as possible.
For the days I'm home all day, I'll use it 3 times a day.
And for the rest, just in the afternoon (I'm not willing to smell like urine, to cure the acne).
The only other product I will be using is an oil-free moisturiser.
So I have only just started it, and I'll keep posting to see how it goes.
I'll be amazed if this works. My parents have spent thousands over the years for various products. It'd be great if this could work since it's free.
P.S. I'm sorry, but I'm not willing to post pictures here. I'm just too afraid someone I know will see me.
I'm sure none of you want to be labeled: 'that guy who slaps piss on his face to relieve a superficial medical problem'.... No matter how emotionally traumatizing it is.
