First off, I want to say that Maya is really a good person. I have been reading posts for the last few hours and shes extremely helpful. Anyways, I am very interested in Liver/Gallblatter cleansing. I read through everything and I am sooooooo lost you dont understand. I dont even know where to begin. If someone could help me with this whole process in dumbass terms I would really appreciate it. All the "ingredients" needed are things I have never heard of and have no idea where to obtain them. I really need to do this, I am sick very often, always fatigued, have bad acne, and poor healing.
Also, I just washed my face and had a zit pop. A big one. It looks like I am going to get a scar from this one. I was wondering what I can do to tighten the skin up. Its got like a hole in the middle where it popped and I really dont think it is going to close up correctly. I am in desperate need of help as you can all see. Thanks in advance.

This thread is intended to be a warning for those using supplements in an attempt to control their acne
I just want to say -
make sure you know what is going into your body
I suffered from acne for a while...to see my history view this post
http://acne.org/messageboard/viewtopic.php...ght+change+life
If you read the info i posted in the link above, you already know that i started to fight my own battle against acne with a supplement called threelac.
I had great success with it and got a little too curious.
I started to use other supplements which started to make my acne worse.
So I took some other supplements and my acne got even worse...it is a vicious cycle.
I didn't know what I was putting into my body...I didn't care...I thought that I was one supplement away from clear skin (little did I know ](*,) )
When I say supplements, I don't mean vitamin A, E and C... I am talking things like Hydrochloric acid, pancreatin, Liquid yeast, probiotics, etc.
I have spent an estimated $500-$600 on supplements in the past few months.
I have made my condition the worst it has ever been. So bad I went to the doctor and told him my story.
The doctor couldn't help me, instead he did what I was affraid of, he prescribed more antibiotics for me (I really hate doctors)
My parents have told me to stop taking all these supplements.
What they don't understand is, I have become obsessed.
I would rather kill myself by taking more and more supplements then live this way.
I guess "I am a supplement addict"[/b]

I've heard these names as well as a few others thrown out (intestinal/ colon cleanse, etc.)
Are they all different names for essentially the same thing?
Or do they each serve their own specific purpose?
I am reading that a detox/cleanse/flush + a period of fasting is a great way to clean the insides of your body.
Could anyone shed some light as to how to go about starting this.
How long does one go on these?
How frequently should these be done?
In what order should they be done?
ANY Info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I am about to begin my first Master Cleanse. I understand that the syrup is a good source of vitamins and minerals. But I have been following Dr. Perricone's strict anti aging diet with success. He preaches against taking in high gi foods such as maple syrup/molasses. Is there anything else I can use to SUBSTITUTE that would be within the guidelines of Perricone's Anti-Aging Diet? Taste is not the issue here as so much as is NUTRITION & HEALTH issues.
Please any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

he specifically mentions in his book that retinoids plus some other topicals cleared up his acne, yet he does not recommand retinoids or really get into the topic of retinoids at all. he does not mention anything about bp in his book, yet his website sells a bp topical lotion as one of its main acne fighting formulations. one patient that he mentions in his book as a success story had never suffered from acne before, until mid 30s when she hits the top of her career, with a shitty diet, clearly a stress-induced case of acne breakout rather that the classical acne vulgaris. i think his book is really meant for older people who dont have oily skin and suffer less from genetic and more from their habits. at least thats my insight.

As I look in my fridge I realize that a lot of items in there contain milk in some way or another. Cheese, spreads, butter, milk, etc. Now I want to know what kind of food I should replace these with? I heard that bran helps as a breakfast food(I always have cereal) but what are some good brands of breakfast foods I can look for in the store? Also, what other food do you recommend I abandon with dairy?

Well I'm drinking a lot of milk and also have a lot of pickels, after reading this article I think I'm going to change the milk to water or something...
Got zits? Try wiping off that milk mustache!
Will drinking milk make you greasy, grimy, and pimply? Some doctors suspect that the fat, animal protein, sugar, and hormones in milk irritate the skin, causing break-outs.
Dr. Jerome K. Fisher conducted a clinical study of 1,088 teen-age patients over 10 years and reported to the American Dermatological Association that milk was a principal contributor to some patients' acne. Dr. Fisher found that their acne tapered off as their milk consumption did.
Dr. Fisher noted that dairy products often contain large amounts of butterfat and milk sugar, both of which, he believed, aggravate acne. He also suspected that the high volume of hormones produced naturally in the milk of pregnant cows may break down into androgen when consumed, which in turn stimulates the production of sebum, the waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands that clogs pores and creates acne when the pores become infected.
Milk may also contain excessive amounts of iodine, which can irritate pores, bringing on acne flare-ups. According to James E. Fulton Jr., M.D., head of the Acne Research Institute in Newport Beach, Calif., "In some who are acne-prone, I'd say 1,000 micrograms or one milligram of iodine a day could be a problem." A recent analysis of milk samples collected from 175 dairy herds throughout Wisconsin averaged 466 micrograms of iodine per liter; 11 percent of the samples contained more than 1,000 micrograms of iodine per liter. (The iodine gets into the milk through the use of contaminated milking equipment and medication given to the cows.)
Squeeze an acne pimple and out oozes greasy white, mucousy pus.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows 750 million pus cells in every liter of milk (about two pounds) produced in America.
The dairy industry refers to these pus cells as "somatic cells." The somatic cell count (SCC) is measured in thimblefuls (milliliters). If milk contains more than 750,000 pus cells in one thimbleful (ml), the milk is rejected.
In Europe, regulators allow 400 million pus cells per liter. France and Italy are known for their magnificent cheeses. Perhaps that's their secret: Less pus!
A two-slice portion (2 ounces) of greasy cooked Canadian bacon contains 33 mg of cholesterol and 4.8 grams of fat. Compare that to a two-ounce portion of mozzarella on a slice of pizza containing 35% more cholesterol (44.5 mg) and 2 1/2 times the amount of fat (12.26 grams).
Acne occurs when steroids (androgens) stimulate the sebaceous glands within the skin's hair follicles. These glands then secrete an oily substance called sebum. When sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells build up on your skin, the pores become blocked, creating a zit.
What do you expect? When teenagers combine their own surging hormones with dietary saturated animal fat, cholesterol, steroid hormones, dead white blood cells, and cow pus, they're gonna get zits. The good news: The cure is an easy one: NOTMILK!
"As pointed out by Dr. Jerome Fisher, 'About 80 percent of cows that are giving milk are pregnant and are throwing off hormones continuously.' Progesterone breaks down into androgens, which have been implicated as a factor in the development of acne...Dr. Fisher observed that his teenage acne patients improved as soon as the milk drinking stopped."
Don't Drink Your Milk, by Frank Oski, M.D. (Director, Department of Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine)
"Acne usually begins at puberty, when an increase in androgens causes an increase in the size and activity of pilosebaceous glands....if a food is suspected, it should be omitted for several weeks and then eaten in substantial quantities to determine if acne worsens."
MERCK Manual, Merck & Company, 2000
"Acne is an end-organ hyper-response to androgens...These data show that sebaceous glands are stimulated by androgens to varying degrees and support the theory of an end-organ response in acne."
British Journal of Dermatology, 1998 Jul, 139:1
"Acne vulgaris is a self-limiting skin disorder seen primarily in adolescents, whose etiology appears to be multifactorial. The immunologic response involves both humoral and cell-mediated pathways. Further research should clarify the role of complement, cytotoxins, and neutrophils in this acne-forming response."
Postgrad Med J, 1999 Jun, 75:884
"Hormones found in cow's milk include: Estradiol, Estriol, Progesterone, Testosterone, 17-Ketosteroids, Corticosterone, Vitamin D, insulin-like growth factor, growth hormone, prolactin, oxytocin..."
Journal of Endocrine Reviews, 14(6) 1992
"We studied the effects of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), alone and with androgen, on sebaceous epithelial cell growth...IGF-I was the most potent stimulus of DNA synthesis. These data are consistent with the concept that increases in GH and IGF production contribute in complementary ways to the increase in sebum production during puberty."
Endocrinology, 1999 Sep, 140:9, 4089-94
"...serum IGF-I levels increased significantly in the milk drinking group…an increase of about 10% above baseline-but was unchanged in the control group."
Journal of the American Dietetic Association, vol. 99, no. 10. October 1999
I GUESS THIS IS ENOUGH REASON TO NOT DRINK MILK NO MORE...

OK, so I begrudgingly tried the flush last night because a friend of mine who sells Chinese herbal medicine recommended it to me. He even gave me a slightly different recipe with a few herbs to take before the flush.
This morning I woke up and had to go to the bathroom in the worst way. Well, I'll save you all the gory details but lets just say I was in there for a good half hour! There was no pain the night before and I was suprised how well I slept.
Lo and behold, the entire toilet was filled on top with these greenish blackish balls. There were so many I had to flush a few times. I don't want to overestimate, but I think I might have gotten out 500 in the first sitting.
Then a few hours ago, I had to go again before lunch and it was almost as intense as the first one. SOOO many little balls floating in the toilet. I think the biggest ones were about the size of the end of my pinky.
Anyway, I'm a believer now!! PHEW feels so good to get all this stuff out of my system.

Honestly, I don't think going on a specific or controlled diet for acne is effective. I personally went on a strict diet for approximately 8 months and *THOUGHT* I was seeing significant results. Just the other week, I indulged in foods I typically would not consume (whilst on the diet). These being: chinese food (dripping in oil), white bread/pasta and several others, which I cannot list off the top of my head at this moment. After eating these specific foods, I noticed NO CHANGE in my skin complexion as far as acne goes. I was angry that I had wasted so much time eating mal tasting food which I thought was helping my acne, but at the same time happy that I could indulge in a variety of tasty foods and it would not effect my acne. Today, the one food ingredient that I notice to aggravate acne significantly is excessive amounts of sugar, prevalent in candy, fruit and chocolate. I would also like to add that SEVERAL GLASSES OF WATER per day helps my acne VERY significantly. I recommend drinking 8-10glasses PER DAY.
I have a log of my diet if anyone is interested, I think it suggests specific foods which I avoided or ate. Let me know,
Dream.

There appears to be a great divide between those who believe that:
1) Diet has absolutely no relation with acne (says the medical community who have done supposed "studies")
2) Diet simply aggravates acne and nothing more
3) Diet does directly affect your skin, cause acne, etc. Especially in the long term have acne and have life-long experience)
For those who do believe that diet has an adverse affect on your skin, then why not take those crucial steps to changing your life. People go crazy on low-carb fad diets. How important is your skin to you?[list]Even if you don't believe, it's always good to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

Has anyone found that their skin improved or worsened when they lived in a different place for a long period of time?
Many claim that acne is a North American phenomenon due to the diet. But what about the environment? The atmosphere? The air? The tapwater???
From Aug 2002 -> Sept 2003 (13 months), I lived in mainland China. My skin definitely improved by the end of my trip. I don't know why though. Just the food? The air was NASTY in the places I lived, yet...my skin wasn't bad at all.
P.S. I met a handful of people with bad skin in Asia, so I'm not so sure about the continent theory. However...China has it's fair share of McDonald's and KFC's now. They're VERY popular and actually considered to be expensive fare.

I just looked into my mouth and I have 3 amalgam fillings. Two small ones on the side of my teeth (lower jaw) and one really deep one also on my lower jaw, but it takes up practically the entire tooth. It's so prominent that it makes my tooth a completely different shade from the rest! It's pretty much grey. [-(
I'm gonna get these suckers removed and replaced with composite fillings asap! Those who have done this procedure? How long does it take? and how much?
