I started getting acne when i was 18 but managed to control it with retin a micro and my skin was actually clear and pretty flawless for years, that is until i took plan B and birth control (ortho tricyclen). I used to get acne only from stress, etc. once in a while but since the birth control i would get acne almost daily despite how stressed or stress free i was. Also, they would be under the skin type acne that would never go away and i started getting jawline acne that i never ever got before. I've since stopped birth control for almost a year now and the constant acne is still persisting. Since then, i've tried switching from retin a to tazarac and using benzaclin (which doesn't help at all) and i've also been using oral antibiotics (almost 2 weeks now) and it seems like my acne is just getting worst. It's really affecting my self confidence and my daily mood and life. I just don't know how to treat it!
I feel like topicals are not giogn to do anything and so far oral antibiotics doesn't seem to work either. What's my next step exactly?? I feel like i've exhausted all options but accutane, which i'm scared to death to try. I was debating trying out yaz or yasmin, i figured since my acne began when i started orthotricyclen, maybe i can fix it with a different type of birth control. lol, it doesn't make sense at all but i'm pretty desperate. Also, i would really like to try spironolactone but i feel like it's out of the question since i have pretty low blood pressure already. So, what should i do? Give the topicals and antibiotics more time (it's been getting worse and has not been helping at all) or ask for accutane or try yasmin or yaz? I just hope getting on birth control again doesnt make it worse.

Okay, so i've had acne ever since i was 18, i'm 25 now. My acne was always very random and comes in bursts (i'd have pretty bad breakouts all at once, lasting a few months, but then they would go away and i would have perfect clear skin). All this while i've been using Retin a micro. Anyhow, my acne went from mild to moderate after i went on birth control, even though i went on ortho tri cyclen which i hear helps acne, yeah right. And now, a year after stopping the birth control i still break out constantly and i would say my acne is moderate-severe.
I've been giong to the doctor back and forth, i told them i've already been using retin a micro, benzaclin, tazorac, salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide, etc. but they keep on trying to push these things on me. My last appointment, my doctor prescribed me tazorac again even after i told him i already used it and it did nothign for me! Plus for my last two appointments the derm kept prescribing me oral antibiotics, first tetracycline then minocycline. I am very much against using antibiotics bc i feel like they are only a bandaid, it only provides short term relief to only come back worst when you go off it. Plus they could lead to your acne becoming resistant, etc. When i asked my doctor how long i am supposed to take the minocycline he said, indefinitely!! I don't kow what you guys but there's no way i'm giong to be on antibiotics forever. I asked him to prescribe accutane but he wants to try this indefinite antibiotic route first and if the minocycline doesn't work he would prescribe different other antibiotics. So pretty much i have to go through a slew of antibiotics first before he will give me accutane. Does anyone else have this problem of getting the derm to prescribe tane??? I just want my acne to be cured!! I don't want to be on a whole bunch of antibiotics forever! Should i switch derms? If i do it'll prob be harder to get accutane b/c they don't have any previous data about what i've tried alraedy and i don't want to have to go through the whole trial and error process again with numerous products that i've tried already. Can an yone recommend a derm in florida who will prescribe accutane fairly easily?

My doctor prescribed Minocycline 100mg twice a day. I was looking around at reviews of minocycline and it seems like most people are on 50mg twice a day. I was wondering if this is too high of a dose for me esp. since i'm pretty petite, i weigh only 100 lbs. Should i just take 100mg a day?
I am also thinking of maybe calling the doctor's office and having it switched to doxycyline as i hear that's safer to take (has less serious side effects). Any thoughts on this? I am very nervous about starting an oral antibiotic b/c i dont want to rely on it and hear that it gets worse if you stop. I asked my doctor how long i should be on this and he replied "how long do you not want acne?" wtf! So pretty much he said i have to take this indefinitely which is not healthy or natural for you. So yeah....don't know whether to start it....but my acne is getting so bad, i just want i tto be over already! I don't want to deal with this at age 25!!

I gave OTC a 4 month trial and it made my acne a lot worse. I only had mild acne before but a week after starting OTC i would breakout daily, and they were different from my usual small inflammed pimples, they were the under your skin big non inflammatory pimples that take forever to go away. After 4 months i stopped it and my skin started breaking out less, but even now, 4 months after stopping it i still break out weekly and my skin has acne scars and is nothing like the clear smooth beautiful skin i had before. OTC was definitely the worse thing i've ever done to my skin.
