What's the difference between masturbation and sex?

I've been here over 3 years and I always hear how masturbation is bad because of the release of certain hormones.....but sex releases the same hormones and very few people have ever said sex = acne....even though they're the same thing. (sex, of course, being seen as far less a sin in most religions and societal attitudes, which might be the only difference).

So, what IS the difference?

It is exactly the same and has the exact same effects on the body. Most people just say masturbation because they aren't having sex.

They both cause loss of zinc and release of hormones.

It certainly causes me to break out on my chin I know it didnt used too just a couple of months ago so i dont know what has happened.

Heres my take I've done a fair amount of research for myself as i started to notice my own correlation between mastribation and acne in middle school. Mastribation causes acne for some of us I used to go at it once a night but once i got acne i went once every other day it seemed to help but i still had the acne. Now I go once a week. its all i can really take i start to get heavy acne the day after but soon after it tapers off.

about the sex and acne
most people practice safe sex and use a condom and the condom restricts the flow of sperm to a certain level. when mastribating i let go as much as i can. ive tried holding back sperm and it seems to help butt i dont think its good for you haha and i still had some acne the next day. but this could be why some people say the sex helps acne because i doubt they need to whack it if their gettin a nice cave to explore.

Dude, this stuff is all in your heads. Whatever way you decide to look at it.

If you think sex or masturbation will help your acne, it will. If you think sex or masturbation will give you acne... guess what? It will.

I have sex at least three times a week, and masturbate otherwise and am doing fine.

Do not blame acne on such a wonderful thing.

Honestly, I would say it's different for each individual. I'm guessing if masturbation/sex causes you to break out then it would be a combination of lots of things, including what type of acne you have.

I think somehow it is linked to acne. If you think about it...it's a surge of hormones going through your body, and hormones are responsible for worsening of acne in some people.

i think you all are perpetuating a myth

Masturbations causes acne, and so does any erection. If you want to get clear, don't see any humans of the opposite sex, and abstain yourself from doing one the most basic function you were made to do, that is sex. (you might wanna try stop breathing too)

The equation is not:

Masturbation = Acne

it is:

Masturbation > Acne

Pornstars don't have acne.

Masturbation may not cause acne, but may still be connected.

An overactive sex drive is a sign of fast aging and unhealthy hormone levels in the body - which happen to also be the causes of acne.

So masturbation may not cause acne, but what causes someone to want to masturbate uncontrollably also causes acne, and thus a correlation exists.

Are you kidding me? It's the opposite. Masturbating = no physical effort, lots of sperm production and hormones going wild. Sex = physical exercise. I am pretty sure that the later is less likely to lead to some crazy hormone imbalance.

I gave in after 2 days...ok, starting now ill give it up for 1 month.

I hesititate to agree with the "MB causes acne" crowd, but I did notice when I was dating earlier this year and having sex frequently my acne dropped to record lows, and went back up after the break up. Intresting correlation to say the least.

Time to get back into dating.
