I used to use neosporin cream for acne, it worked wonderfully for several months, I was acne free, and then it pooped out on me. After that it seemed to only work as a moisturizer.
I recently purchased some potassium sorbate, which you all might have heard of, it is used as a preservative in foods and in wine and beer making, it stops germs from growing. Thinking, hey, maybe I can use this, I mixed it in with my leftover neosporin. I rubbed the mixture into my face and lo and behold, redness, inflammation, and swelling was reduced. The next day, the effects were even better. It seems to work day after day, improving my skins appearance. It works fast at killing off acne, shrinking existing zits, and stopping new ones from appearing. In 2 days my face was much clearer. Here is info on the potassium sorbate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potassium_sorbate Potassium sorbate can be purchased at wine and beer brewing supply shops, you can find them in the phone book or order it online. It is really cheap, I bought my bottle for 2.50, and you only need a little bit to mix in, it will last a long time. It smells a little funny until it dries, if you don't like that maybe just use it at bed time. The ratio I used was 3 tubes of neosporin cream, 1 gram of potassium sorbate, mix together in a container. That should last you awhile. Don't use too much potassium sorbate, it is an acid and can irritate the skin. This is the best method I've come across so far. Good luck!

So I ordered this cream from a Canadian pharmacy called Aziderm, the active ingredient in it being 20% Azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is apparently prescription only in the United States, but I have had no problems receiving this product in the mail. I put this in OTC section seeing as I purchased this without a prescription with no problems. So can anyone else, type in Azelaic Acid in google, go to a secure online pharmacy and you can order it.
I have only been using it for 2 days now. I would say my skin would lie somewhere in the middle range of ability to handle abuse from exfoliation and such, and I would assume this acid has the potential to be pretty harsh for those with very fair skin, at least only at first, as I've read that its only rough on your skin for the first month or so and then the skin gets used to it. After first nights application to whole face, I had immediate tching. This stuff itches like crazy for about 15 minutes, then thankfully the itching stops. The next morning, my face was a little red and raw, so I applied a moisturizer and nothing else. However, zits had shrunk greatly, redness reduced, scabs flaked off. A very nice effect! The second nights application was more of the same, with some skin flaking. Its pretty good stuff so far, I will write follow ups in a weeks or so because I really haven't been on it that long. Check it out on Wikipedia, its cool stuff. Women should definately check it out, unless you want to grow a beard. Heres the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azelaic_acid.

Hello, been reading the boards for a couple years for ideas, this my first post, think I've discovered a new use for St Ives Apricot Scrub Blemish & Blackhead Control that works great and real fast that I'd like to share with everyone.
Its a great spot treatment. If you have a big red zit just smear some of the scrub paste on it, let it sit for 10 - 30 minutes, then rinse it off, and the redness will be gone and the swelling will be greatly reduced and it is barely noticeable. You can do this as a spot treatment or as a whole face mask. It appears to also help bring zits to a head quickly. Just put it on and let it sit. This method is also good for those people who don't like rough exfoliations because you aren't really using it to scrub your face, your just letting it sit and then rinsing it off without scrubbing. Remember, scrubbing is not necessary on the whole face mask, and when doing spot treatments, DO NOT SCRUB THE ZIT. Just lightly rinse it off. Combining this method with c.booth brand Glycolic Acid Skin Resurfacing Solution has greatly reduced my acne, its a powerful combo. The C.booth stuff was purchased at a Rite-Aid, they have a big line of products, if your local store doesn't carry it you can ask them to order it for you. This particular solution contains, besides glycolic acid, benzalkonium chloride antiseptic to kill germs. |
