About 2 and a half years ago I got hit with very severe acne which left both of my cheeks pretty much full of scars, Id say moderate/severe scarring.
Its been two years since that happened and by now Ive pretty much accepted the scarring, however I thought that over time the redness that comes with the scarring would eventually fade away, unfortunately its been 2 years and the redness within the scarring has yet to fade much at all really. When im in a cold environment the blood drains from my face and although scarring is still visible its not highlighted by redness and I feel fine, however when it gets hot my skin becomes red, and each individual pockmark (and there are alot of them of varying sizes) becomes red and so the scarring really really stands out and looks horrible. Now if my face was colourless all the time I wouldnt mind the scars really at all, but when it goes red I lose a fuckload of confidence and generally feel like shit (hence why im not a fan of summer anymore). Dont really know what the purpose of this thread is, I cant think of any answers that havent already popped into my head, I think im losing hope that my skin will ever get better and Im starting to feel like it will stay like this forever, its not even a case of 'fading red marks' its more like fading the redness inside the scars which is probably impossible as the scars are essentially depressed areas of skin and so the blood is more visible due to the thinner skin surface.

Ok I recently came off accutane (about a month ago) which was keeping my acne at bay, however as soon as I came off it I started getting acne around the chin, mainly cystic. Ive been trying to keep it at bay by using Dans B.P gel twice a day and it has definately kept normal acne at bay but I have 2 cysts that have been here since I stopped the tane.
Anyway I was hoping that after those cysts eventually went that would be it, maybe I had grown out of it, but today I woke up and my jawline is feeling funny, it feels like there is an imminent cystic breakout on the horizon as the skin there is feeling slightly swollen/uneven and a bit hard. I used to get really bad cystic acne a couple of years ago and this feeling is reminiscent of how it used to be. Anyway my questions are - will I be able to control cystic acne using Benzoyl peroxide, and also what is causing my cystic acne (that is so far confined to the chin and jawline). Ive read that its mostly hormones and stress, but to be honest Im not really stressed, and the hormones thing only seems to apply to women, and Im a guy. So what can it be? EDIT: Forgot to say Ive still got the option of going back onto a low dose accutane course but I really would rather find another solution if there is one

For the past 3 weeks or so Ive been using an old bottle of Dans BP, it was well past the expired date and smelled a little funny and burned my chin a little, aswell as making it itch like crazy.
Today I got a brand new bottle of Dans BP (aswell as a free tube of AHA I didnt order, cheers for that I suppose) and Ive started using the BP and Ive noticed its a lot thicker than before, like really thick compared to the old stuff, however on the plus side it hasnt made my chin itch whatsoever and even the burning sensation has lessened alot. However Im still getting flakes but thats expected but hopefully this new stuff will mean less flaking and less redness!

Is it ok to wash my face with water only?
My current regimen is this 1. Have a shower with lukewarm water 2. Apply jojoba oil over whole face 3. Wipe any excess jojoba oil off and then splash face with cold water 4. Apply Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% over affected areas (mostly chin) 5. Currently experimenting with different after BP moisturizers as Dans makes my skin burn. Anyways Ive tried using various facial washes in the past, Ive had a long long run of using Johnson and Johnsons Top to toe Baby wash for my face, but ive noticed that after I use it my whole my skin flakes like hell, so a cleanser designed for Baby's skin is too harsh for mine, so lately Ive just been using plain old water to wash. Is this a bad Idea? Its been ok so far but my mam says its better to use some sort of facial cleanser.

Anyone tried this stuff?
The ingredients listed are: Double strength Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter and Sweet almond Oil. Debating to use ether this or just plain old simple Aloe vera gel as an after BP moisturiser. Im thinking this concentrated cream stuff might be a little too much for my skin, I do like the sound of that Shea butter though, sounds like its quite tasty |
