Letter to my derm

I mailed this letter, including the linked photos, to my derm in 2007. I don't know if it would be the right thing to do for anyone else here, but she told me that she put it on her bulletin board where she sees it every day at work. I didn't mention Accutane in the letter (the drug she prescribed). I felt like I had tried everything else.

Hey, I wanted to let everyone know that I was asked to remove the thread since Dan didn't want to have any solicitation or lawsuits against acne.org from Proactiv. Since I'm a mod it would look bad and he said it's not a good idea, so I removed it. I agree with him and don't always think things thru lol. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Question

I have a general question about what that stuff coming out of our pores is...I remember seeing a quoted abstract that had taken a sample of a man's nose-the little waxy plugs that came out of his pores. If I recall correctly, the composition was p. acnes bacteria. First question: can anyone comment on this, and if so, are the p.acnes dead or alive? Is there a way to know? (Not like is there a way to tell with yourself, but have researchers studied this waxy plug material.)



I wondered also if dead skin flakes are also p. acnes bacteria, some part thereof, or if anyone knows. Being on Accutane has made my skin a bit more flaky, especially around the areas where I was broken out. I'm curious about this because when I use a light therapy spot treating pen for 10 minutes, what happens is the spot forms a thin flaky layer as the light kills bacteria and promotes healing/decreases inflammation (combo blue/red light). I wonder if the layer being formed on top is made of dead p. acnes or what's the deal. If anyone knows.

Make bullying illegal?

13 olds wanting to commit suicide because they hate themselves and their lives just because of what they look like. Time for a change IMO.
These are people who deserve to be happy instead of miserable, just like we all do, no? If we're going to regulate everything else a person can do under the sun if they live in the U.S I wonder if schools could be empowered to make bullying illegal...did anyone ever think of this or hear about it before?


If we can't make it illegal, I think we could at least more effectively discipline the behavior and minimise the impact on everyone- and bullies are suffering too, they do it to cover up their insecurities.


I can't offer solutions or knowledge that the idea is sound, infallible, or even possible. I just wanted to hear from you guys as you would be so kind to share your thoughts ...

OIL BLOTTING PAPERS

Hey guys, I have no idea if anyone will like this or not, but if you want to make your own oil blotting papers this is how I do it in < 5 min for free and yes I'm ready for the "EWW" flaming as a broke student I need all the help I can get lol. Clean n Clear oil blotting papers cost $5.99 plus tax for a pack of fifty 3" x 2" blue rectangles. I used to go through a pack in 3 days

This is totally sanitary since you use an unopened pack. If you've never tried using one for blotting your oil, the next time you see toilet seat covers just try one of them out for that purpose (if you have oily skin) and I think you'll be tres impressed.

• 1 pair sharp scissors (the larger the better)

• 1 pack of toilet seat cover

• ziploc bags

OK... you know those toilet seat covers you can find in lots of public restrooms...

Obtain a new pack. It's best to ask someone who works in the building if you can have it.



Over 250 sheets like this to one pack.
You can cut the pack in three different places to make rectangles that unfold vertically to double in size.

You can easily make over 1000 oil blotting sheets about 3" x 4" when folded in half, and 3" x 8" when unfolded. They last forevor and you can keep them in ziploc bags or in the ripped out the pages of a mini photo album or whatever works for you.

This is about a third of one pack, maybe a little less.

This is how I cut the sheets using one sheet as an example. I cut both corners like this:


You can cut a third one in the middle:



Experiment with different sizes until you can cut a decent amount of sheets in a straight line (hence the large scissors )




My skin doesn't get so oily anymore but I wanted to post in case anyone might find it beneficial somehow....
