Hi all,
New to the group. Here after a long month of really stubborn and "not going away and then getting worse" acne around my problem area, the mouth. I just couldn't take it anymore and squeezed (I mean squeeeeeeezed) them all.
A bit of history and then some questions I hope members can help with!:
I'm a 34 year old female, long on bcp, 6 months on Sertraline. Moved to Southern Cali from NYC 4 months ago. Never really had acne as a teenager. I have "adult acne". My acne has progressed over the years to smaller, more stubborn types of pimples, not the plump, pus-filled ones that we are all familiar with. They scar whether or not I leave them alone or pop them. They are all around my mouth, occasionally along my lower eyebrow line, less so on my cheeks. I tend to have dry skin though. Am very good about moisturizing. I have been mostly a popper. They tend not to go away and so I just figure I need to get the pus out.
Now, overall, I think I have enviable skin. Mainly clear. And when I first moved to Cali, my skin was looking great, really nice, like I hadn't seen in a long time. At the time, I was trying all kinds of different moisturizers as my staple one was going off the market. Now, I do love the sun, but I am religious about sunscreen. I had been hearing about La Roche Posy brand of new sunscreen (very popular in Europe, just approved in the States) and was thrilled to find it available now. So I have been using that as my daytime moisturizer. At night, I started using Stryvectin (a couple of weeks now). OK, I know it sounds like I've been inundating my skin with new, powerful products, but I did test and then seemed to tolerate well.
Now, given my above history, I wanted to address the recent (seems like a long month) of acne around my mouth. I did decide this time that I would not pop/squeeze/yell profane at them. So I've left them alone. Not only have they not gone away, they seem to stabilize but then get worse. Some seem like large whiteheads (more on the chin) and above my mouth, they are pus-y, but fairly deep in the skin. Tonight, I just couldn't take it anymore!!!! I figure they have been scarring anyways...
So, questions:
Does anyone know of a really good SPF moisturizer that's soft on acne? I don't know if my new lotion is contributing, but am willing to ditch it despite how long I've been waiting to get it.
Can anyone share any stories on acne around the mouth? I don't know why it is persistent there.
I have yet to find a consistent acne cycle that corresponds to my monthly cycle.
I JUST NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Will start Dan's Regimen tomorrow.

Hi everyone,
I started using the DKR with my original order in about Sept 2005. I have had acne on and off since I was about 14. I just turned 23. I used ProActiv for about 6 years, and then the WalMart brand, but wasn't satisfied and I went through times when things got worse, especially right before I found the BP gel. Things haven't been perfect, but at least there has been some improvement
I have found success for the most part with DKR (using Cleanser and BP Gel), and have lately added in Jojoba oil, baking soda to exfoliate, and a mild ACV toner. I am started on Yaz tomorrow too, and I think the BCP will help a lot as I feel a lot of it is hormonal. It is really the only hormonal problem I have...
Thanks!

my face went nuts.. ended up failing that semester..

i am a 18 year old male.. I have dealt w/ acne since jr high.. I have mild to heavy acne, i use make up & light powders to cover it..
I have tried every thing- TRUST ME everything..
Even ACCUTANE. accutaine worked for 6 months, after my dermatologist told me to stop using it because my skin was perfect and clear, it came back 5 months later & was at the condition it was in before.. I feel as if i should give up.. I want to try Daniel Kerns products, but i am skeptical...
please place imput on it?

Hello my fellow acne sufferes!!
I just wanted to say hi!! And to tell you a little about ME!!
I am a 21yr old former clear skin model, and I have never before my 21't b-day had any problems with the hell we call acne, and this is sooo overwhelming, and pretty new to me..it is messing up my career(dont see too many pimply faced run way models huh?)
So, I decided to join this board, which I am really liking thus far, because it deems we are a big family here, and everyone is soo supportive..So I feel right at home..and I also feel WE all will soon win this war against this invader acne demon, so that is all for now..I am determined to beat acne, but these little boogers are putting up a strong fight..so we must bring on heavy arsenal and shut it down cadets..hut one .hut two..hut 3 ..and so on and so on..LET US NOT BE DEFEATED!!!

Hi everyone,
My name is Mena. I've been reading this site for quite a while now but I just joined the forums tonight. I also am suffering from acne and it only started this year -- the begining of my first year at University!
It's been quite the horrible experience. I went from having picture-perfect skin to not even wanting to take pictures! (I haven't taken a picture in a while now, and usually run away from the camera). My acne is on my forhead and on my left cheek (which is now gone, but I have the reminants of what seems to be a scar

. I am very upset about this and am just hoping and praying that the forhead acne goes away and my skin gets healed asap.
I don't even know how I started to develop acne, but when I did, I tried Proactiv with no results. I then went to see a doctor who prescribed Clindoxyl and StieVAA. They seem to be working, but I still have those unsightly bumps on my forehead that just don't seem to disappear! But hopefully in time they will.
I am here to talk to those of you out there who are dealing with acne just like me. I feel a sense of support and community here and I can't wait to meet you guys.
Thank you for your time,
your friend,
Mena

Hi people!
My name's Matt, i'm 25 and from Leicester in the uk. I've had moderate acne since the age of about 13 - i can't ever remember having a clear face! I'm one of these people who can honestly say i've tried pretty much everything. I've spent hundreds of pounds on all kinds of facewashes, scrubs, pads, gels, creams and moisturisers. I've been on several antibiotics over the years and ofcourse the big one - accutane - for about a year, which cleared my skin about 75% but gave me all sorts of nasty side effects.
My spots were tolerable for a couple of years afterwards (i still always had them, just a few less) right up until the last 6-9 months in which they've just come back with a vengeance, possibly worse than when i was a teenager! Well anyway, don't wanna get all melodramatic but that's my sad little story. Now i'm just pretty desperate to rid myself of this, as it's completely shattered my self confidence and i put that down mainly to the fact that i'm nearly 26 years old and everyday i still wake up with red spots and marks on my face but all my friends seemed to grow out of it by about age 19/20! It's great to be able to come to a site like this because firstly everone seems very friendly, and secondly it reminds me that i'm not alone and that there are actually other people out there that have to put up with the horror that is acne! So there ya go, that's me....

Hello everyone,
My name is Heidi. I haven't suffered from acne that long but hate it! I have suffered about 3 years or so. I am a young adult and am very frustrated with my skin.
I am hoping that dans system works for me. I will be using cetaphil cleanser and lotion, and then be using his bp stuff. Wish me luck. I havent got it yet. I just ordered in a couple of days ago.
anyway. Hopefully I can learn some stuff about at home microdermabrasion kits. I have some acne scarring on my cheeks and would very much so like that to go away.
Thanks for viewing!

Hello !
My name is Andreas, 15 years old, and currently placed in Denmark

!
So, without writing a biography or anything, here it goes;
I've had acne since i was 12. And it is really just killing me. Even though it could be ALOT worse, i feel like im not as beautiful as everybody else in my generation.
And now where the whole thing with girls gets interesting, it really hurts to feel like shit.
I have a hard time facing a girl. Not because of lack of selfconfidence.. But because, when i gain eye contact with a girl, i look down because i feel embarresed because of my bad skin.
Let me just put this out:
I care alot of what people think of meSo anyway, i've reached the limit of how much i can handle. I want it to be gone. At any costs.
I'll give up cola, candy, anything unhealthy. I'll excercise more. Everything ! I just wanna feel pretty
So far i wash my face daily with cleanser day and night. And i've used the product Murad for a month. It helped a little. But not enough.
So, while looking for an escape option on the internet, i found this side. And as far as i can tell, it looks pretty good to me. And my acne really isn't that bad. And i have seen cases worser than mine, on this website, that was cured.
So i ordered 2 tubes of Dans BP gel

And hoping for the best!
(How long will it take before i recieve it?(Denmark))
Have a nice day!
Love,
Andreas.
btw. i think i will start a log with pictures when i recieve the gel

I'm not sure what kind of acne I have, whether it be mild, moderate, or sever, or even what category it would fall under. I will be going to see a dermatologist soon, but I have done a bit of research on my own, plus experimented with numerous different natural/face wash treatments.
What has worked so far after the very first use is a cream I just bought called
The first one I used which worked relatively well was Nivea Face Cleansing for Men, which made the acne go away, but then the acne came back so I switched to Neutrogena Face Wash for Men. The Neutrogena also worked quite well, but then the acne came back again, so I tried this home remedy of putting toothpaste on the acne the night before. This was the worst mistake I have ever made, it made my skin ridiculously red and dry, not to mention it did not do a thing to the acne, so I used Lemon Juice to lessen the red, and that worked and it went away in about a day after a lot of skin peeling.
Now I just bought Men's Biore Anti-Acne a couple of hours ago, and used it, and it worked quite well, I can see/feel a different, the acne is less noticeable and the skin feels smoother.
An ingredient in the Biore is called Triclosan which is supposedly anti-bacterial, but the thing is, the Neutrogena also contains Triclosan and it didn't do anything remotely similar to what the Biore did. My hypothesis is that the Biore was designed specifically for acne, where as the Neutrogena is just all around face cleansing.
Unfortunately, I am almost positive that the Biore will stop working after a short while, and then I'm stuck. So...
I did a bit of research and found an oral retinoid called Isotretinoin which is supposedly VERY VERY good in treating acne, reducing the size of sebaceous glands, killing bacteria, and reducing redness in the face, and has worked on numerous people. Now here are my questions...
Has anyone used Isotretinoin before and had any negative side effects or anything that a new user should know about? My parents are not too fond of letting me consume a pill to treat acne, which is ironic because my mom is a pharmacist...
***MOD EDIT*** PM SENT TO OP AS TO WHY.
Thanks guys, your feedback is appreciated.

Hi everyone,
My name is Sam. I have suffered with acne ever since I was about 15, I've tried everything you can think of including prescription drugs from my GP.
Back when I was 20 I thought I had finally gotten rid of my enemy for good (acne) with Dianette and a topical roll on lotion called Clyndamicin. My skin was so clear you would never have belived I ever had acne for about 4-5 years. Somehow the doctor convinced me that I should come off the Dianette as my skin was now clear and because as it has increased risks of giving you blood clots...... BIG mistake!! I started to break out worse than I ever had before in my life! and I am not a teenager I am almost 26 years old.
I tried going back on the Dianette/Clyndamicin but it no longer worked. I also tried various antibiotics that messed with my digestion and bowels. (not nice).
Long story short the acne was scarring so my GP refered me to a dermatiologist and she put me on Accutane. I have jsut stared it (05th June 2007). I am very, very scared I know what could be in store for me with regards to side effects. But I am willing to pay the price for no more acne and hopefully clear skin.

I am half/black, half white. I started getting acne when I was 11, when I started my period. As I got older, my weight went up, and my acne got worse. I went on birth control pills at 15, but it barely helped. At 24, I went off those pills, and got pregnant with my son. Briefly, very briefly, when I was pregnant, my skin cleared up, up until like my 6th month. Then, it started back up again. I didn't have that "glow" that pregnant women are supposed to have. After the birth of my son, who is now 4 years old, as of last week, my skin has taken a turn for the worst. My weight continues to fluctuate, and I started growing facial hair, and it turned out to be because of my horomones, and the fact they they never quite got under control all these years. For 18 years I was told it was because I was bi-racial, because of my light skin, and mixed genetics, and that all mixed kids go through it, and that it would clear up with age. The doctor's finally figured out I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, cysts on my ovaries, and on top of that I have fibroid tumors in my uterus, causing my horomones to be all over the place. Being overweight because of my pregnancy, has caused everything to be double what a normal acne sufferer goes through. I just turned 29 a week ago, and everyday that I have to look at my bare face (without cover up, make up, powder, etc) I cry. I hate going out in public. I make sure there are at least 2 make up compacts in "back stock", if you will. I never go out without make up on. I go to the store, with make up on, to buy more make up. I go to the gym with make up on. Which is a huge no-no, because as I sweat working out, the make up clogs more pores even more. It's expensive. It's like $8.00 per compact. I go through 3 or 4 a month. For 4 years now I have stopped, and started Practiv like 6 times. But, that too is expensive beyond belief. What turns out has to happen is, the OB/GYN has decided to remove the cysts on my ovaries, and remove the tumor in my uterus, put me on birth control the rest of my life, and diminish any hopes of ever having another child. If the cysts and tumors come back, then I will have to have a complete hysterectomy, throwing me into full menopause. All this, because of out-of-whack horomones. It took the doctor's 18 years to finally figure out what is wrong with me. I am frustrated, I don't work because I think people are always staring at my scars. I stopped wearing sleeveless shirts, because it has now started up on my shoulders, and upper back, as well as my butt. I don't even want my husband looking at me naked. It has ruined our sex life! Even with make up, you can still see the dark brown spots that every single pimple leaves. I am growing more and more depressed, and with impending surgery, and the possibility that my son will be an only child is killing me. I am at wit's end...

First off my name is Justin, im 18(19 in august) and I live in NY.
Well it seems that throughout school I never suffered too much, sure there was the occasional outbreak but nothing too major. Well I've been out of school for almost a full year now and its where my face is at now is unbearable to me. Im sure it doesnt even compare to some other people but it just affects me so much its to the point where I don't like to go out and even apply for jobs because of it. It just seems to completely drain my self-confidence. Theres also this girl that seems like the perfect one.... but I don;t feel I could pursue it at the moment because of how i look. I'm not sure why I let it get to me the way it does but once my skin clears up I think life will be better than ever.
My mom came home a little while ago and then we got into talking about me trying to find a job and earlier in the week I had mentioned lack of confidence briefly but never went into it any further(because i absolutely hate talking about something so sensitive to me). Anyways I just blurted it out that my face was the problem. So now i've decided its gone too far and I'm willing to do anything it takes to make better. I'll cut out anything, incorporate anything just so I can have clear skin. She said she was going to call and schedule a doctor visit tomorrow to see if they feel we should talk to a dermatoligist or if they have any ideas.
ive been reading these boards for a little while but never registered and posted until now, that is because tomorrow with the doctors appointment it all changes.
here goes nothing...

Hi everyone, i have just been reading over everyones threads, and everyone seems very friendly.
I have a question, well im 16, M.
have had acne for about a year now, and last 6 months its got pretty bad. Ive used heaps of things like Proactic, clearasil ultra, Benzac, and other stuff.. but nothing seemed to work, in most cases it made it worse.
Yesterday i went to see my doctor about it, because since i started having bad acne i dont go out as much as i used to, and it really annoys me, because i like to have fun, i just don't want people staring at me or judging me.
The doctor said i should consult a determatologist, so i can be put on Roaccutane.
1. How long does roacutane usually take to kick in?
2. And a rough price?
thanks.

Hi everyone,
I'm new...of course...and here i am to introduce myself. I'm 30 years old and have had trouble with acne since my late 20s. Call me a late bloomer. I've tried all kinds of things, and happened to stumble upon acne.com. I was a bit skeptical about the regiment....i mean, washing only twice a day, using only a sensitive cleanser like dove and only washing for a few seconds, applying BP and then only using a mild moisturizer.....sounds too easy and not enough steps or medication.....but I've been doing it for a week and I'm really surprised at how my face is improving and how it doesn't feel like I've been using a brillo pad.
I'm still a bit wary about washing my face two times a day. I'm very active and sweat alot....and I HAVE to wash my face after I work out. Sometimes I work out during the day after my first face washing, I wash my face after working out, and by the time I go to bed I want to wash my face again.
Does anyone do anything different after working out or playing in a game? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
