Due to the recent influx of Paleo diet threads and general questions being asked on users logs, I thought it would be handy to have a thread dedicated to the paleo diet.
Use this thread to post questions, answers, give others tips and advice or maybe post up a few tasty recipes.

Hallo,( sorry for my english sucking so much ) pls read carefully
i have suffered for about 1 year of moderate till severe acne. Now I m almost clear.
I want to help others getting clear, too.
First I want to describe my acne conditon:
Back: No acne
Chest: No acne
Face: many whiteheads and blackheads, very cornificated oil glands, bad inflammations on forehead and temple but normal oil production
My acne combatting history:
I started with clerasil: made it worse
then alcohol: made it even worse
beer yeast and zinc: definitely made skin better, but no solution
tea tree oil topical: helped at the beginning by drying out zits, but after a while made it worse
apple vinegar topical and internally: helped redness going away and softens skin , but no solution
benzoylperoxide. really helped , but skin rough and terrible
steam bath for face: that sucked so much and didn t helped at all
oil massage with a mixture of rizinus safflower oil and linseed oil: first was a miracle to me, because it really extracted whiteheads. so i thought it s just a matter of time. but then i experienced the worst breakout of my life. keep hands away!
urine therapy topical: helped healing wounds of the brakout before fast and made skin super smooth. Its no solution and in long term it led to further breakouts. keep hands away! better use urea from drugstore: same effect, not embarassing
nystatin because of candida suspicion: it really helped at the beginning but than stopped
Here is my personal way out of acne:
start on saturday to avoid trouble.
on chosen saturday only eat fruits, no matter what fruits. in the evening take 10 mg Bisacodyl (e.g Dulcolax) you may have to shit a lot that evening, but for sure the next morning
the next day in the morning drink 1 litre sauerkrautsaft. then you will piss out off your ass. sauerkrautjuice tastes horrible, so maybe take it with a beer bong.
then your guts are absolutely clear.
in the evening you can start eating again, but before you start eating everytime take nystatin, capsules with lactic acid bacteria, bifidobacteria and e.coli bacteria ( omniflora, mutaflor) and do that for about 3 till 4 weeks.
furthermore i recommend contrast showers in the morning, much physical activity, a good breakfast with müsli that contains pumpkin seeds
what to expect:
the next days you may see that the redness fades away and you won t get big zits
Products that relieve acne: benzoylperoxide
salicylic acid
beta carotene capsules with zinc and beer yeast
avene cleanance soap
zeniac products
recipees: dict.cc for translation
i m eager to hear from your results with this method.
good luck!

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING A QUESTION ABOUT WHAT BRAND I USE OR WHAT DOSAGE I USE. I, unfortunately, don't have time to answer a bunch of repetitive questions. It's not hard, it's like two sentences! Feel free to ask further questions after you've read what I'm taking. Thanks

My original first post is below. If you'd rather not read my life story and experiments with different remedies, then just read the concise version
Daily supplements:1. With dinner: Spring Valley Flush Free Niacin, Inositol Hexanicontinate, 500 mg ; One-A-Day Women's multivitamin, andSpring Valley Super B-Complex.
Wash once or twice a day with
Likas Papaya Soap.10% BP,
Clearasil Ultra,
for spot treatment ONLY. I do not use this at all anymore, but I have it on hand just in case.
That's all it is. No tricks, no fancy, expensive products. The B-Complex and Niacin are like, $5 a bottle at wal-mart. The Likas soap is $3 on amazon.com, about $1.50 in oriental grocery stores. The Clearasil is the most expensive product I use, and it's only about $8. I use it rarely, so it lasts quite a long time.
I don't even really worry about diet anymore. I still follow my diet and exercise plan, but it's more for other health reasons than acne. I went on vacation, didn't follow any diet, reduced my exercise to walking in the mornings, and still didn't break out. It is seriously awesome to be able to go out in the sun without worrying about BP sensitivity or taking any nasty antibiotics or hormones. I can even eat junk food now without breaking out (this is probably a bad thing

)!
First, I guess I should just say that I wanted to start this log because I started having success with tweaking my diet about 6 months ago, and I just started on Niacin and have had amazing results so far, so I'd like to keep somewhat of a record for myself as well as for anyone else who might be benefited by a regimen like mine.
Also, I've been stalking this board for quite some time, and everyone's advice and experiences through trial and error have helped so much! I am especially thankful for the guy who posted that Niacin cured his acne, and various others. I found AcneJean's log to be particularly helpful as well, because it introduced me to the Likas Papaya Soap and lots of good healthy skin eating advice.
A little about me -- I'm a 25 year old woman who's had cystic acne on and off since the age of 17. I went to a dermatologist right away back then and tried various antibiotics as well as Differin, Retin-A, Benzaclin, Bactrim (to which I had an allergic reaction) and a bunch of other over the counter treatments. None of these worked very well, so I was eventually prescribed BC pills, which helped a lot, but were by no means a miracle cure. I got sick of relying on the BC when I was 22, so I went off of them. My skin was not that bad for awhile and while I usually had some breakouts, they weren't bad or painful or hard to deal with. I thought I had grown out of it.
I was wrong. I started law school shortly thereafter and within a year I was breaking out again. It continued to get worse, and I had the most horrible breakout of my life occur about 6 months ago. I am studying for the bar exam (I take it in a week!), so the stress of thinking about graduating law school must have taken its toll, along with my bad habits that I picked up within those three years. I was sick of using topicals and spending a small fortune on OTC and prescription drugs that seemed to just manage my acne rather than go to the root of the problem. I haven't been able to go out in public without makeup in almost 8 years! I think that's ridiculous, and I sign that something needs to be done.
I completely gave up alcohol, smoking, coffee, dairy, all-night studying, all-night partying, and peanuts for 6 months. Yeah, it sucked, haha! I cut way back on other junk food like chips, candy, fried food, red meat, vegetable oils, processed foods, etc. I started exercising hard for an hour 6 days a week. I replaced coffee with green tea, and began taking a B-complex supplement and using honey instead of BP spot treatments. All of this cleared my forehead and chin very well, but I was still breaking out in horrible, painful acne all over my cheeks and the sides of my face. At least it wasn't my WHOLE face anymore, but I was still frustrated that I had acne after all that hard work. If nothing else, I lost a lot of weight and felt 100% better, so I guess my acne had somewhat of a positive effect on my overall health through trying to get clear.
I tried all the low GI, lower-carb, gluten free, insulin regulating diets, and they did NOTHING but seem to make my acne WORSE. Actually, when I think back, every time I have tried to cut back on carbs my acne seemed to flare up. I believe this has something to do with the way my body processes Niacin, because grains are a popular source of that particular vitamin. I seem to do remarkably better on a low fat vegetable and grain based diet. If I keep my diet down to just fish, fruit, whole grains, and vegetables my skin really seems to benefit, although it didn't clear my cheek acne.
I continued to do what I was doing until last week, when I discovered the Niacin post and started using the Likas Papaya soap at about the same time.
Now, my skin has been clearing more and more every day.
Here's what is working for me:
1. Washing with Likas Papaya soap, once a day if not wearing makeup, twice if I need to take my makeup off.
2. Supplementing with a B-complex and 500 mg no-flush Niacin daily
3. BP spot treatment, in case I get a few pimples here and there. I like 10% BP Clearasil Ultra. I haven't been using this, though, and my acne is healing quite fast.
4. Still abstaining from dairy and peanuts, but I've added a few cups of coffee in there, and I also have been able to add a little bit of butter. I'm try to eat a healthy, nutrient dense diet in general, so I try to keep junk food to a minimum.
5. Still working out 6 days a week for an hour.

You can always PM me if you have any questions.
IT TOOK ME 3 MONTHS ON THIS DIET TO SEE ANY IMPROVEMENTS.
*If you're interested in a Verilux acne light, PM me
After a year of having this blog, I believe my skin cleared up from my diet. I eliminated my allergy foods that were acquired from an allergy test and stopped having cystic acne. Also I believe zinc and drinking water has attributed to my clearer skin.
Vitamins I take:
Zinc [100 mg]
Orthotricyclen
Acai pills
What I put on my face (not all at once):
Papaya Likas Soap (staple)
Raw Honey
Neem Oil
BP 10% Spot Treatment (staple)
Oregano Oil
Sea Salt + Water Spot Treatment
(I do not recommend a BP 10% wash because it may cause too much irritation and leaves red marks LONGER. BP 10% forms free-radicals and can damage your skin but I love spot treatments too much.)
My diet?:
In one sentence, I'm Vegan. No meat, dairy or animal products.
It's not that hard to eat healthy. If you educate yourself on nutrition it helps a lot with the confusion. Check out the links I put at the bottom of this entry for help.
I avoid
-dairy,
-processed foods like t.v dinners,
-fast food,
-refined sugar,
-wheat,
-corn,
-soy,
-inflammation promoting foods,
-meat,
-eggs,
-fruit juices,
-iodine,
-tomatoes,
-high G.I foods (potatoes, rice, white flour, etc),
-things that have ingredients I can't pronounce or isn't natural.
Ask yourself before choosing a meal, "Will this hurt or help my body?" Let's face it, there's no nutrition in cookies or cheetos. I believe sugar is a BIG part of the diet you should cut down on. Why is this important? Because a rapid rise in blood sugar causes an insulin response in the body, which then causes an inflammatory response. Acne is inflammatory. Also, don't over eat. I drink a half a gallon or more of water a day. Near the bottom of this entry is a slight summary of what a good diet should consist of.
Summary of my skin type
Typical story of getting it at 13, accutane at 15, came back.
The first photo I have of my acne
My breakouts first started on my forehead and nose then migrated to my cheeks and finally on my jaw line and mouth.
I have sensitive skin so benzoyl peroxide washes and spot treating with salicylic acid would give me chemical burns.
I DO NOT USE PRESCRIPTIONS CREAMS OR PRESCRIBED PILLS FROM DERMATOLOGIST.
THIS LOG IS ABOUT DIET CHANGE AND HOLISTIC APPROACHES.

Those makes me cringe ^
Merry Christmas, huh?
I started drinking lemon water in the morning and putting lemon over my acne. I also started doing apple fasts for 3 days. Not sure if the apple fasts work but my acne is basically cleared up in 2 weeks.

It's been one year since I stumbled across Acne.org and you know what? I'm finally clear again.
I take my makeup off with Papaya Likas Soap. I exfoliate with the Clairsonic Brush but not everyday because I would get little tears in my skin. I use ground nutmeg and honey as a mask to lighten the pigmentation. I drink lemon water. I use Jojoba oil to moisturize and aloe vera gel over that. I also use Rosewater over oily areas. I spot treat with 10% BP and mint julep mask.
Having acne is bittersweet. It has broken me down emotionally many times over the past 7 years but I have learned so much about myself in the process. It has made me take control of my health and realize that acne can be eliminated by eating healthy and taking care of yourself.
I'm currently focusing on lightening the pigmentation left behind.

Feb 2009 compared to Feb 2007
In February my birth control changed to Ortho-tricyclen Lo and I broke out in big cystic hormonal zits. I think it was from the fish oil because it was SO huge and reminded me of the last time I took fish oils I broke out in bigger than life zits.
But then it healed :)
[March 2009]
I read so much on Spirulina and the health benefits but obviously not the part where it contains iodine which can aggravate acne. I took it for a couple days and woke up with about 9 new zits. I stopped it and then took it again to see if really was the cause.
It was.
I broke out really bad all over my chin and by my mouth. Thankfully I healed from it in about two weeks. Learned my lesson!

2007-2009[July 2009]July was a good month. On the 13th I got my first microdermabrasion and I believe I see some difference in my skin. I do not get cystic acne anymore but rather small pimples. It is such a relief.

* Eat 20 to 30 grams of fiber every day “Fiber helps keep the colon clean and may remove toxins from the body before they reach the skin.
* Eat a low fat diet “The cultures whose natural diet was low in fat, had less acne, and high fat consumption may elevate hormone levels in the body that cause blemishes on the skin.
* Avoid peanut products “Peanut products were found to cause acne flare ups in a study of 500 adolescents.
* Avoid fried foods Fried foods were found to caused break outs.
* Limit salt intake especially table salt or iodized salt “ Many people with acne have elevated levels of iodine, found in table salt, in their blood stream during acne flare ups.
* Avoid highly salty sacks such as chips, lunch meats, canned foods, and salted popcorn “These foods are high in salt and, in some cases, fat.
* Avoid dairy products such as milk, cheese and ice cream
* Avoid highly processed carbohydrates such as sodas, candy, and baked goods “High carbohydrate foods raise the level of insulin in the blood and elevated insulevel may raise the levels of acne causing hormones in the body.

Alright so I found this response to a question on how to clear up acne by Ray Peat:
QUOTE
"Yes, vitamin A and estrogen are antagonistic, and while estrogen promotes keratinization (shedding of skin cells), vitamin A opposes it. Since vitamin A is highly unsaturated, in excess it suppresses the thyroid, so it has to be balanced with the thyroid; the combination is effective for increasing progesterone and decreasing estrogen, slowing the turnover of skin cells, and making the skin cells function longer before flaking off. Plugged pores, combined with a local shift toward synthesizing inflammatory substances, foster bacterial infection. Bright light stimulates the production of steroids, and consumes vitamin A very quickly, but when the balance is right, the acne clears up in just a day or two. Cream, butter, eggs, and liver are good sources of vitamin A. When people supplement thyroid and eat liver once or twice a week, their acne and dandruff (and many other problems) usually clear up very quickly. It was acne and dandruff that led me into studying the steroids and thyroid, and in the process I found that they were related to constipation and food sensitivity."
So he suggests eating lots of Vitamin A and supplementing with thyroid. Now I don't like to take medication like that unless I have to and judging by my basal temperature I don't need to. So what I'll be doing to help my thyroid out is consuming more coconut oil. As for Vitamin A it makes sense as that is the main thing in Accutane but it is just in an extremely high dose. Obviously I won't be able to get nearly that high but hopefully eating lots of Vitamin A will make some difference... though I doubt it will make me clear in two days!
Most sites I found recommend taking 5,000 IU for acne but say that up to 15,000 IU can be taken. They say that 15,000 IU can show results in even the severest acne but mine is only mild to moderate. I won't be taking supplements because I'd rather try it through whole foods first. Because my acne is generally mild but abundant I am going to try to aim for 10,000 IU a day.
I'll be using this site:
http://www.healthyeatingclub.com/info/book...ata/data3a.html to judge how much Vitamin A I'm eating a day. So it looks like I'm going to have to eat quite a bit of eggs, cream, butter, and sweet potatoes although I'm not sure I can get up even to the 10,000 IU mark but we'll see... I'm also going to try and eat liver twice a week even though it tastes fine but thoroughly grosses me out before its cooked. Last time I tried it with calf's liver but I think if I try chicken liver it won't be as gross. Chicken liver has 11,000 IU so I know I'll meet my quota on those days.
I might be posting pictures later on even though I don't really want to... I'll probably be starting this experiment sometime this week or on Monday as I need to go grocery shopping first. I don't know how long I'll be doing this for as I really only want to test his theory. I'll probably focus mainly on eating foods with lots of Vitamin A for one week and then continue eating liver once or twice a week from there on out.
Current Acne ConditionFace: Right now I have a lot of pimples and scars around my jawline and chin. I have 3 large whiteheads on my chin and lots of small pimples along the sides of my face. I've also developed some really small pimples on my forehead which I don't usually get.
Back: Lots of painful whiteheads on my shoulders and pimples on my entire back.
Chest: A few very small pimples here and there.
Neck: A few small pimples and one very large, painful zit that hasn't broken through yet.

Why am I doing this, honestly, it's because I'm frustrated. I never had acne until turning 20 and am now almost 23, everday I wake up I want to rip my face off and go back to the days when my face was normal. I've tried all different regimens, things that are too harsh dry my face, take a simplistic approach and I have oil and dead skin everywhere. I've been to 3 derms and they all give different things that never really work. I feel like I have every symptom or diet problem that all these forums proclaim and it just makes me crazy to the point that I have no idea what is really good for my face anymore, so basically I'm quitting, since my face doesn't want to be clean and clear than I won't make it, I'm going to teach it a lesson by not washing it for a month starting actually two days ago the 10th. I know that whatever the outcome will be it will be interesting along the way and I'm trying to look at it as a scientific experiment, maybe leaving it alone will help healing weak acne prone skin? who knows, I don't. As of right now my skin isn't breaking out very badly, I never really have bad acne just bad skin texture and little bumps but if I wash too much than I break out. So my nose is oily and has alot of dead skin and my cheeks are oily and have little bumps I have some dry skin around my mouth too, so we'll see what happens when leaving it all alone for a while.

Well, my regimen is pretty much going to be what is laid out in the post title. In addition to that, I am going to cleanse my face morning and evening, and wash it 2 more times during the day with cold water (my face is very oily).
I feel like the only obstacle I will face is getting enough nutrition. I do a lot of running but am also currently trying to gain muscle mass/healthy fat. By cutting out all dairy products this might become more of a problem. But I think I can get through it.
I'm in college right now and I feel like my acne is destroying my self-confidence and preventing me from experiencing college life to its full potential. I'll see if this regimen does anything.

Hi everyone,
im new here, and ive had acne for about 5 years now. when i was 15 i used to use proactive for around 2 years and it worked fine, but i would still get occasional cysts.
after that my doctor prescribed some drugs which worked very very well, BUT they made me feel so nautious, and i took those pills for about 1 year... you can see the bottle in the pic i took, my skin looked OK!
Heres a pic... man i looked sexy lol... but you can still see that my skin was not perfect
I stopped taking the drugs because i was having digestive problems (i know now the digestion problems are related to the antibiotics). I also noticed i was feeling tired ALL the time. it was rediculous. so i stopped taking the prescription medication.
My acne slowly kept getting worse and worse until how it is today. soooooo, i bought a copy of the acne free in 3 days ebook, and i loved the information in it.
its true that acne is a result of toxins in our bodies, and i realized that ever since i have been a little kid, i only had 4 bowels movements a week on average. thats why my body is so poisoned and it shows in my skin.
IM on the 2nd day of the program, and my skin looks horrible lol. im assuming its gonna get better by the 5th day!
Let this be the ultimate test if acne free in 3 days really works!
ill update with more pics tomorow

Yeah. I actually started my treatment program last Monday.
It's something I designed myself too. It's really in-depth but I'm going to say it's already working.
What im doing:
Exercise @ 5 x a week 30 mins to 2 hr sessions (some cardio but mostly strength training)
Diet @ 7 x a week alloud to have 1 "cheat" meal on the weekends (i'm eating fish, salmon & cod, baked in olive oil, water, boiled and steamed veggies, fresh fruit and veggies, organic whole grain/wheat bread with flax seeds, LIGHT MAYO oganic fruit juice with NO high fructose corn syrup, lean turkey lunch meat, organic baby carrots, fresh bananas, organic blueberries, organic walnuts, oat and honey granola bars, low fat string cheese, orginal pretzles, frozen entrees with less then 300 calories for dinner, oatmeal for breakfast, fresh sliced cucumber, fresh green grapes, fresh apples, egglands best eggs for breakfast) ( What im trying to avoid: High fructose corn syrup, excessive amounts of sugar, white bread, white starch, rice, potatoes, ect. Soda, coffee, caffiene, All I drink is water and green tea and white tea organic fruit juice with no corn syrup and non-hormone milk to swallow my pills. Diet averages around 1500-1700 calorie intake per day. Which is a 800-1000 reduction from what I was consuming previously.
Supplementation @ 2 NON-Iodine containing multi-vitamins with Breakfast taken with water
2 flax seed oil capsules (500 mg) & 1 evening primrose oil capsule (500 mg) with Lunch take with 1/2 cup (4 oz) of NON-HORMONE Homo/Vita D Milk

Topicals @ Treating my face with the exposed skin care system - Treating my body by washing with SLS FREE Lavender soap with a loofa and spraying in the morning with a mixture of water, organic jojoba oil, organic tea tree oil, and at night after a bath I am spraying with water, organic jojoba oil, and organic lavender oil. I bought 2 water bottles of plant use and washed them and filled one with Am mix and one a Pm mix.
I take a shower in the morning and a bath at night. 2 times a week I turn a pm bath into a spa/stress relief by adding aromatherapy oils to my bath water and applying a clay mask to my face. I exfoliate my skin with my derm cloth ( on my face ) every 2-3 days and I use microdermabrasion cream applied with my fingers every 10 days. I will be adding a back loofa to exfoliate in the next week.

First let me give you some background information and briefly discuss the regimens I've been on.
My acne started when I was 19 years old when I first went on birth control pills. Eventhough I got off that pill soon after, it started my battle with mild acne. I used Proactiv for a few years until it stopped working. I took another BC pill called TriNessa when I was 25. This pill is the generic version of Ortho Tri Cyclen and is supposed to clear your skin so I thought it would be great for me. TriNessa cleared my mild acne really well. But when I came off of it, my skin exploded and I had the WORST breakout of my life. I started breaking out badly in Nov.06. I was getting three new pimples a day from November to February. Then I went on DKR and it helped a little but dried out my face and left me with a discolored complexion.
So I stopped and went on Clearogen in March. In my opinion, it didnt help my acne at all or maybe very little. I used Clearogen for about a month and a half. Clearogen was very drying to my skin and thats why I believe my skin became oily. It left me with oily skin and A LOT of acne marks. Not to mention it didnt stop me from breaking out.
I read somewhere in these forums that BP makes red marks last longer so I decided to stop using it completely and see what happens. I then came up with a new regimen:
AM:
Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash
MaMa Lotion (10% Mandelic Acid 10% Malic Acid) every other day
Neutrogena Moisture SPF 15
PM:
Purpose Cleansing Wash
Green Cream Level 6
This regimen made my skin peel so badly. It also gave me small chemical burns. I learned that MaMa lotion and Green Cream together is too much on my skin. So decided to give my skin a break from all the chemicals and I came up with a simple, gentle, more natural approach to deal with my acne
Morning:
-Wash with Alpha Hydrox Foaming Face wash and let my face air dry
-Apply a thick layer of Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel all over my face and rub it in in circular motions
-If going out, apply Alpha Hydrox Sheer Silk Moisturizer SPF 15
Night:
Same as morning except no moisturizer. Thats it.
I have been doing this regimen for about one month now and I am AMAZED at how fast my skin is healing, and the red marks seem to be fading quicker.
I have decided to start a log to keep track of which products work and which dont. I will be trying different regimens until I find one that completely stops me from breaking out. I'm battling persistent mild acne.
If you have any questions, please ask

I read on this webstie that nuts are a good choice to have in order to improve your acne. However, I have read in other places that it is bad for your acne and can casue breakouts. Does anyone have any further information on this? I am interested in finding out the truth.

First some introduction: Hi! I'm a 19 years old male bearing acne for the last 6 years starting from when I was still 13 years old.
Then some acne background information: It was when I was 13 years old that my first pimple appeared. Being young and misinformed about acne, as most of us are when we first encounter it since we do not care about it when we don't have it, I decided to use safeguard soap to wash my face believing what the mainstream media and doctors were saying that time that it is bacteria that's causing pimples to appear is true. After that, my nightmare has begun.
Acne spread through my face and my confidence crumbled to the ground. Then I consult my parents and they told me it's "probably" in the blood and I should just continue using soap and water to my face for it to go away. But the "going away" part didn't happen and my face looked worse than before. I tried BP, Eskinol, even Alcohol and a lot more that I can't and don't want to remember anymore. Some have no effect, some subsided the "from-pimple-to-now-acne problem" a little bit but it is still there and I know it and other made it worse. My face also looks always tired, pale, dull and lifeless. After all this I tried water only washing but still breaking out. So I thought normal cleansers would do it but still breaking out. Before this regimen I am into the proactive 3-step system. It did clear some of the acne but it is still there and pimples are still appearing every now and then and takes like forever to heal. On top of that, they leave red marks that seems to stay forever! It would be the worse. And it says that you should continue using it like forever in your life to stay clear. BUT with a pale, dull and lifeless looking face? NO WAY!
A couple of weeks back I was seriously considering accutane. Checking out all the logs here on accutane and the logs and reviews on the web regarding it. I am about to check my student insurance too if they would cover my accutane sessions. Luckily it was holiday season and so it did not happen. At first the results I am reading seems to me as remarkable as if it was a miracle. Days passed and I realized that the side effects were horrible. I looked into Dan's Regimen and made a thought on how to do it given that I can't afford and order it. So I was looking into alternatives. While I am on it, I came across a signature from jan carlo and it was talking about something about natural healing of acne so I looked into it. Doing a research on it showed that there are also other people that have undergone the same thing. I studied it further searching how and why then epiphany struck me making me realize all the misinformation I've had been fed through mainstream media, popular culture and by society itself. And finally here I am into a radical regimen with nothing but nature at work!
The Regimen: I am going to live on this radical regimen that consist of recovery then living a healthy fulfilling lifestyle. You can read about it here: All Natural Regimen
You will notice that I am also the one who wrote that regimen. But if you followed my acne background then you will know it is not me who discovered this regimen. I simply synthesized their experiments, experience and with the know-how of skin biology that resulted into this All Natural Regimen.Check out my album to see the corresponding pictures for this log, I suggest that you sort it in ascending order to picture out the time line. Don't worry, I made it as simple as I could.
Now onto the logDay 2
I considered this day two as I remember the last time I washed my face was the the other day when I took a bath. At that time I am confused whether to try it out now or later because of the things that will happen. But then again the thought of having pale face and still having acne struck me and I unconsciously decided not to wash my face at that time with proactive anymore. Now I officially will be sticking into this regimen no matter what happens(good or bad). My face on day one as far as I can remember is pale, dull and lifeless after washing then becomes oily after 2-4 hours later.
Right now my face is oily everywhere except on the chin and jaw line. I took pictures of my today's condition and will put them up once ready. Another thing worth note taking is that every time I sleep with oily face in these past 2 days, I wake up with healthy looking face. Though not a normal healthy skin yet but still much better than when I was still using proactive. Another thing is sitting in front of the computer for prolonged hours makes my face oily compared to the little to no oil I saw in the afternoon while I was out to the mall.

Hi

I'm new here but I've been putting up many posts around. I love this website.
I've recently started to adjust my lifestyle and have created the following rules.
1) No eating past 9pm. (occasional snacking like fruits ok...)
2) No plucking/squeezing/excessively touching pimples (tempting but don't!)
3) No drinking (although I doubt I can keep that up!) If anything, I'll stick to wine
4) No smoking (This I can probably manage, unless I'm already drunk)
5) Only washing with water in the morning and at night washing with an organic cleanser called purely
6) Eat lots of vegis and fruits. I already love healthy food anyway so this is keeping up the norm. No more occasional post partying fries and chickens.
7) Exercise... Hmm I wonder how this will work as I'm quite lazy.
8) Not much hard core partying.
9) Wear less makeup (stick to only mineral powder and some concealer)
10) Go to bed before 12
BE HAPPY.
It's extremely difficult to keep up everything but I will do my best to stick to the routine.
If anyone finds anything wrong with my plan please let me know. I'd love to get some feedback.
Right now for my acne I just wash, then towel pat dry, jojoba+tea tree oil on cotton pad then swipe my face with it, put cortisone cream on the big red bumps and on small ones just few drops of tea tree oil. In the morning, it's the same except I put on another layer of moisturizer. I need a new one so if anyone has recommendations please let me know:)

I've had acne for over 10 years now (I'm 21), and have recently decided to attack the problem from the inside by altering my diet, thoughts, and exercise patterns. It's hard for me to keep track of what works and what doesn't as I haven't been writing down what I'm doing, so I'm hoping that this log will help me determine what is clearing me up as my skin and health continues to improve.
My acne is moderate; I get a ton of tiny whiteheads on my forehead and cheeks, random pustules here and there (mostly on my chin), and blackheads on my nose and cheeks. Occasionally I get what appears to be a cyst on my chin, but those typically come to a head and go away with some BP. Unfortunately, it seems like everything scars now, leaving rolling scars all over my face. Other than that, I think my skin is slowly improving with the changes I'm making; it just FEELS healthier than it did when I was slathering BP all over it.
~Current Topical Regimen (trying to keep it simple)~
Evening:
Nourish Cucumber and Watercress Cleanser
Clarity Serum (Salicylic Acid, Witch Hazel, Tea Tree Oil, Pregnenolone and other fun stuff)
Jason 5000 IU Vitamin E Oil

Evening:
Swanson Alpha Lipoic Acid 300 mg (added 9/30)
NOW Vitamin D 5,000 IU (added 9/30)
Bio-zyme Digestive enzymes with every meal
Supps I've Tried:
Nature Made Vitamin E 400 IU (added 8/24): no effect
Nature Made Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc 3x daily (added 6/21): no effect
GNC Zinc 50 mg (added 6/21): made me break out along my jawline SO BADLY
Nature Made Vitamin C 1000 mg (for stress): switched to Quercetin + C
Swanson Full Spectrum Bitter Melon 500 mg 2x daily (added 6/30): did nothing and tasted gross
~Diet~
Food: chicken, salmon, tuna, eggs, spinach, broccoli, peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes, steel cut oats, apples, strawberries, blueberries, brown basmati rice, quinoa, occasional Thai food (love it!), lots of coconut oil, cacao nibs, and a ton of chia seeds
Drinks: water, rooibos tea, coconut milk kefir, coconut water, occasional rum, beer, wine or vodka
No dairy
Limited added sugar
Limited gluten
Limited alcohol
~Typical day~
Breakfast:
eggs scrambled in coconut oil with turmeric and cayenne pepper, or
organic steel cut oats with oat bran, strawberries, chia seeds, cinnamon and cacao nibs, or with strawberries and cocoa powder and shredded coconut
Lunch:
stir-fry chicken tenderloin with frozen veggie mix (pea pods, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, carrots, mushrooms, soybeans) and spices (lemongrass, green tea, ginger, pepper) in coconut oil, sprinkle brewer's yeast on top
or
spinach and romaine salad with tuna, broccoli, green peppers, and chia seeds with olive oil and raw apple cider vinegar dressing, sprinkle brewer's yeast on top
Snack:
prunes, strawberries, cacao nibs
Dinner:
baked salmon with quinoa, seasoned with ginger and turmeric
I need to find a new workout plan.
I'm gonna try to stick as close to this diet as possible for a few months and see what happens. My goal is to keep things under control and minimize scarring until I grow out of this. Here goes!

I just went through a very trying month in terms of acne.
I don't get cysts often right now (maybe 5/yr) due to my 5% BP wash and diet changes. My bacne and chest acne are gone. My puberty is definitely done I think. My periods are regular, and I stopped having premenstrual symptoms most of the time. However, my face is oily and itchy all the time, with small red bumps all over. There have been times when I thought my face is ugly while I had the cysts, but now I look barely human.
I'm going to make a gamble and hope that most of the improvement in cysts is due to the diet changes and hormonal changes....because I'm thinking about trying the cavewoman regimen. I read wapak's posts and I found them very inspiring
. My mother's side of the family never gets acne going back several generations. Most of them never got a single pimple in their lives (I know because I mercilessly grilled all of them about it). The only person in my dad's side of the family who got acne (also in several generations) is my uncle. He's the pampered baby of the family. NEVER eats any veggies (maybe a carrot once every months) and he picked all his pimples (which aren't more than the average person) and got a faceful of scars. I just don't believe that my acne is really due to genetics. I've been destroying my face with harsh soaps, cleansers and topicals for nearly 10 years. I started out washing with handsoap 3/4 times a day. Then I washed with a 10% BP wash, followed by a harsh SA scrub. AND on top of this, I used Benzaclin.
I've really had enough. I just want to be normal. I'm willing to stick to my strict diet (raw veggies, nothing I'm sensitive to, sweet potatoes, probiotic yogurt, salmon and green tea). But I'm seriously done with the harsh chemicals.

First off, I want to say my skin cleared before I came to this board. So this isn't a log of my progress, at least not with acne.
And I did most of my research several years ago and don't always remember the reasons for everything. Especially about how each nutrient helps and each bad food like HFCS harms. Besides, it so complicated, it's impossible to recall it all at any given moment.
The body is a system with a lot of processes. It has processes to deal with crap, but it can only deal with so much and we've been bombarding our with poor diet, sedentary lifestyle or extreme physical activity, poor sleep, binge eating, etc. Any number of changes can be enough to get it functioning enough that your skin clears. But don't stop there.
Anyway, I reread old threads and discover things I'd forgotten all the time. Often in my own posts! So I've gathered links to a lot of very valuable discussions and placed them in these threads:
Good things thread. Short. For when you only have time for the Answers:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Good-t230714.htmlMuch more detail with links to threads full of research:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Tangled-w...ne-t224452.htmlFood and beneficial nutrients and how to get them:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Food-and-...17#entry2356817Diet: This is what everyone should do. Everyone. Not just about acne. Acne is not the most important thing.
The main thing is to cut out processed foods and drinks with their bad fats, and nutritionally void refined carbs, especially high fructose corn syrup. Eat more real, nutrient dense food: Fish, fruits and veggies. Meat if you eat it, but ideally limited to healthy free range, not sickly grain fed animals. Never snack on blood sugar spiking sugary foods or drinks. And don't binge eat, even on healthy foods.
Eat more anti-inflammatory foods than inflammatory. the most inflammatory are sugars and hydrogenated/trans fats. Anti-inflammatory foods are fish, and colorful and flavorful fruits, veggies, herbs and spices (from plants, so not salt).
What you want is a blood sugar stabilizing, anti-inflammatory, nutrient rich diet. Do this now. It's good for everything, not just acne. It'll retard aging and all kinds of illness as well as improve all kinds of hormone issues from pms, to menopause to male pattern baldness. Then try to figure out what you personally have a hypersensitivity to. The most common are dairy and gluten. Other common issues are eggs, citrus, soy, nuts, peanuts, legumes, etc. You could have an actual allergy, or you could lack the ability to digest certain foods properly. Don't eat things you can't digest. Also, even if an allergy doesn't directly result in a pimple, reactions increase inflammation and there is also a relationship between elevated histamine (allergic response) and elevated androgens.
And be more worried about your glucose metabolism, liver function, adrenal function, circulation, circadian rhythm cycle, etc, than acne. Get regular adequate sleep and exercise.
Topical regimen:
I use a mild cleanser or water only on a soft cloth. The only acne related anything I use is an occasional use of BHA. I moisturize with oils sometimes, otherwise aloe vera mixed with green tea, niacinimide and a drop of jojoba. Paula's choice toner. I occasionally oil cleanse. Occasionally apply a mask of something like yogurt. I also make an ACV and green tea toner which I use on my body and face after showering.
----------------------------------------------------------------
My Regimen:This is the regimen I was on when I first started my log:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/forums.html...tSomewhat current regimen:Ooh - regimen needs to be edited again. Taking fewer supplements, just multi, c, fish oil on occasional, magnesium (for headaches and sleep, but good for acne). Drinking more mint tea than green tea. And my focus now is looking for food hypersensitivities. -Feb 09
Edited from original post.
Status: Clear after 30 years. 2 years in March!
Story: Severe Acne since I was 10. 10-15 years of Dermatologists, Antibiotics, topicals and
ACCUTANE did nothing. Discovered oranges triggered the worst of my cystic acne = about 70% improvement. B-complex with zinc, saw palmetto, C and aspirin mask = more improvement, a lot less oily.
Diet changes = Clear.
Regimen: Moderately low carb and anti-inflammatory diet and supplements (to reduce hormone imbalance, candida imbalance, inflammation, aging and general health). Gentle cleanser, ACV diluted w/ green tea toner. Occasional use of BHA. Moisturizer w/ niacinimide helps pigment problems.
Current Supplements (most for anti-aging, hirsutism and general health):
Good multi (NSI Synergy w/ 20mg optizinc, ester C, chromium, selenium, high on B vitamins, CoQ10, R-Lipoic Acid, etc), 1,000 mgs vitamin C (helps adrenals, anti-histamine, anti-oxident, collagen booster) , Green tea (anti-androgen, anti-oxident), Beta-Sitosterol (anti-androgen found in Saw Palmetto and Nettle) Omega-3 Fish oil (anti-inflammatory and hormone balancer?), Probiotics.
Diet:
Snack or eat every 3-4 hours. High on fruit, vegetables, greens, legumes, free range eggs, salmon, nuts.
Limit to varying degrees: sugar and simple carbs, fruit juices, even lemon juice, dairy. Bad fats.
Avoid completely: Oranges (severe cystic acne causing allergy?), sugary drinks.
Favorite product recommendations:
Ghiradelli's bittersweet chocolate chips (low on suger, I have them with raw nuts for snack).
Unsweetened hot cocoa. Packed with antioxidents, better than coffee.
Green tea flavored w/anti-oxident things like lemon or grape skin.
Sweet potatoes. For breakfast, snacks.

Masturbation-The cause of my acne!!!!!
I am going to start using self control and not masturbate for one whole month to see how it affects my skin. I am guilty of masturbating when I am stressed out and want to relieve myself by tugging on my chicken. Sometimes I masturbate 2-3 times a day and the next day I get about 10 new pimples on my face. I am going to make a masturbation chart and I will try to control myself and at the same time try to lift some weights as an alternative way to relieve stress. After reading many of John's posts on this thread, I am interested to see if I can achieve results on my own. The longest I went without masturbating was about a week and when I finally decided to jack off, I busted a load that made me feel like I was Peter North shooting a stream of cum that covered a whole football field. I will keep you all updated on my progress as each day goes by WITHOUT masturbation. Also, I will be drinking 2 gallons of water a day.

Hey all
If anyone is interested, I have decided to document my 2-4 week experiment with urine treatment in my blog. I'm not a weirdo and not a crazy vegan or anything like that. I'm just a normal woman looking for some relief in this crazy world, and right now I feel like I've exhausted all of my options.
If you are interested in following me or encouraging me, please do so. Please do not leave any disparaging or ignorant comments, though, since they will be deleted or just simply ignored. I'd also like to hear from anyone else who has tried this in the past - there's no need to rebuild the wheel, as they say. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
PS. If I knew how to link to my blog in here I would, but I'm relatively new to this place and have no idea how. You can find me in the blogs section. That's all I know

A rather scathing review of the paleo diet's merits:
The Paleo Diet
Review by Sally Fallon
Peter Paleolith goes ahunting and catches himself a plump prairie hen. Using tools of stone and bone, he removes the entrails and throws them away. Then he plucks off the feathers and peels off the skin--he'd like to eat the succulent fat underneath but he learned during his rites of passage that the fat is taboo. Next he cuts off the dark meat and discards that too. Deftly he separates the white meat from the bone. The bones go in the trash heap and Peter Paleolith is left with. . . skinless chicken breasts!
Then Peter prepares his meal. Because salt didn't exist in those days, he bathes his chicken breasts in lemon juice and balsamic vinegar. He greases his Paleolithic pot with canola oil, the kind his elders recommend. He seasons his meal with ground black pepper or perhaps chili powder which he always carries with him in a leather pouch. And, because he doesn't have any sugar, he washes down his Paleolithic meal with. . . a diet soda!
If this sounds absurd, it's because absurd things happen when a professor of exercise tries to write a diet book that captures the current interest in the so-called caveman diet and adheres to political correctness at the same time. This book is as pc as pc can be--and totally ignorant of what we know about hunter-gatherer diets. Everyone who has described the diets of primitive peoples--Stefansson, Samuel Hearne, Cabeza de Vaca, Weston Price--has detailed the great emphasis these groups put on animal fat. Animal foods rich in fat were the basis of these diets. Animals were hunted selectively to procure those richest in fat. In good times, only the fattest parts were eaten, the lean meat was thrown away. In fact, the one thing Paleolithic Peter would never have eaten was a skinless chicken breast. He wanted the fat, the entrails, the bones, the contents of the stomach. . . the lean meat went to his dogs.
Cordain makes a lot of other crazy claims. He says that Paleolithic peoples had no carbohydrate foods like grains or starchy root foods--never mind reports of grains found in the fire ashes of some of the earliest human groups, or the widespread use of tubers among primitive peoples, usually fermented or slow cooked. He says that there isn't much fat in wild animals (did he check with any hunters while writing his book?) and that what fat these animals had was highly politically correct--low in lethal" saturated fat and rich in monounsaturates and omega-3 fatty acids. Did he look up the fatty acid profile of buffalo fat while researching his book? Obviously not. If he had, it would have ruined his whole theory because buffalo fat is more saturated than beef fat. And obviously he didn't check up on canola oil, which he recommends as a source of omega-3 fatty acids--because virtually all canola oil is deodorized, a process that gets rid of the omega-3s.
Cordain says that primitive man did not eat salt. Yet we know that salt was available in many parts of the world, principally from brine on the seacoasts and salt flats in the interior. Salt-rich blood from game was collected and used in food preparation. In Africa, ashes of sodium-rich marsh grasses were added to food.
Unfortunately, Cordain's Paleo Diet is not only absurd, but also dangerous. High levels of lean meat lead to vitamin A deficiency and a host of health problems, even heart disease, which Cordain's high-protein diet is supposed to prevent. There's no good source of calcium in his diet and no salt, so vital for digestion. He recommends rubbing flax oil on meat before cooking--a recipe for creating carcinogenic oxidation products. And then there are those diet sodas. . . bound to cause trouble in a diet so lacking in protective nutrients. Fortunately, Peter Paleolith never ate this way, or we would not have made it this far.
About the Reviewer
Sally Fallon is the author of Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats, and Eat Fat, Lose Fat (both with Mary G. Enig, PhD), as well as of numerous articles on the subject of diet and health. She is President of the Weston A. Price Foundation and founder of A Campaign for Real Milk. She is the mother of four healthy children raised on whole foods including butter, cream, eggs and meat.

Man my skin looks so gross, i have like a billion zits on my neck face and shoulders and i know exactly why i just need some help to motivate me!
A few months i started eating really healthy - the first time since i was little when my parents forced me to sit at the table and eat my veges or i had to go to bed with a piece of bread and water. now that i think about it that was borderline child abuse not a way for me to eat healthy lmao. but anyway my skin with all this healthy food was clearing up and i was like holy cow i have skin underneath all those zits?? so i was really impressed and wanted it to go away even faster so i started looking for websites to suggest help and then i found this one called acne.org, you might of heard of it and after a few days i had my regimen inplace was using the bp etc and then my skin on my face nearly looked perfect. but after about a month a combination* of things made me stop doing it and i went back to eating crap and my skin in turn turned into crap. pretty much what im asking for is some tips and ideas on how i can motivate myself to start using my regimen daily and eat healthy-ish.
Cheers sam
* the combination of things that stopped me would take about 5years to write lol

I cant remember the exact age i started suffering with acne, but i believe it was around the age of 15, i am now 21. Ive tried so many creams etc on my face which never really helped, the only thing that has helped were antibiotics which i wont be ever going anywhere near again.
My diet has greatly improved since the days when my acne problem started, but unfortunately my skin still isnt to great. Its always dry and flaky with spots effecting my forehead, cheeks, chin and neck.
My current beliefs are that my problems are due to my liver, although i can never be to sure on this. Im currently taking milk thistle and will be alternating this with dandelion root every 2 weeks. Im also taking cod liver oil, i havnt seen any improvement in my skin from this but its healthy for you so i shall continue to take it. I also try to eat a fair bit of coconut oil a day, and drink teas such as redbush, ginger and lemon (when i manage to buy some more). And also not forgetting i have a pro-biotic yoghurt drink every morning.
I have noticed masturbation defiently causes me problems, especially my chin area. A couple of days after masturbating i can be sure a big spot will appear on my chin. So any masturbating will not be happening until i sort out the problems in my body.
I be posting some pictures when i get the chance to, hopefully will be tonight or defiently tomorrow.

I noticed my face has cleared up a lot if I don't drink coke or any dark soda. I can have Sprite or & up, but that's it. This tip my friend told me.

I've had acne for 3 or 4 years and really want to be clear now, including no redness, by the end of the year before I go to university. In the past I've used cheap regimens like Clearasil and T-Zone, and even used prescription Differin from a dermatologist, but neither of these products helped or I got too impatient and lazy with them and gave up early. Recently I've developed an interest in natural and herbal health. This has been my path for a few months, to clear acne naturally. This is my current regimen:
Supplements (per day)
*30 mg zinc chelate (with added herbs and betacarotene)
*30000 IU vitamin A
*cod liver oil capsules
*spirulina, chlorella and barley leaf detoxing/alkalising mixture
Internal (I'm going to start the teas in about a week as they are in the post)
*saw palmetto organic herbal tea
*detox organic herbal tea (milkthistle, cleavers, calendula, dandelion, peppermint)
*4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar a day
*pumpkin and sunflower seed as snacks daily
*3 litres of water a day (have been on this for months, will reduce amount when I get the teas)
Topical
*cleanse with Weleda Baby Calendula Soap
*tone with: 1:1 apple cider vinegar and green tea, with tea tree oil
*moisturise/treat with natural calendula/beeswax/olive oil ointment
My diet rarely includes contemporary fast food, and frequent servings of vegetables, although cooked. I still live at home, with home cooked meals, so a radical change in diet (eg. eliminating dairy, gluten) is out of my hands. However the spirulina/chlorella/barley leaf is a good substitute for fruit and vegetables. I hope I have luck and that you are able to see me (hopefully) find success! Please ask questions or message me if you want =)

Ok so There are quite a few niacin topics, and so I wanted to start my own.
we in the UK have a shop called holland and barrett.
I have looked into non flush niacin online through other stores and it looks like it will cost £20 for 100 tablets at 500mg
in holland and barret i picked up the 100mg FLUSH niacin tablets and I plan on taking one tonight.
Has anyone else taken this specific one and found good results?
it states on the bottle that you should consult your doctor before taking it and in sensitive people anything over 20mg may give you a flush/rash etc.
my plan is to try this for a few days and hope it clears me up a little before my holiday, which will involve drinking alcohol.
thanks again
