Hi all,
I made a bunch of purchases on makingcosmetics.com
here's what i got
polysorbate-80
zinc oxide (micronized) powder
zinc oxide powder
colloidal oatmeal powder
AS corn starch
l-ascorbic acid powder
magnesium ascorbyl phosphate powder
niacinamide powder
citric acid crystals
liquid licorice extract
Now, all these have different pH and combining them will result in some other pH. Where can i learn how to mix these ingredients properly, find out which ones don't mix well together, figure out what pH i should try to aim for, etc. etc. etc?

So...I have always stayed away from foundation (liquid, mineral, powder, tinted moisturizers, etc) because they ALLLLLLLLL make me breakout. I try to only wear full face makeup if I have an event I have to wear it for. I have tried every mineral makeup and expensive liquid foundations down to drugstore brands. Even if it says non-comodogenic or oil-free it is guaranteed to cause new breakouts by the time I wash it off at night. Does anyone who has sensitive skin have any suggestions on liquid or powder foundations that don't cause additional breakouts? I currently have kiss my face tinted moisturizer, EDM, BareMinerals, Cargo oil-free foundation, and they all make me breakout. I am currently using Taz and Duac so my skin is crazy dry as well.

I have been following Paula Begouin's advice for using Milk of Magnesia as a mask and makeup primer. I now use it at night, covering my whole face once, letting it dry and applying another coat. Both are always thin coats. A little goes a long way with this. Then in the morning I apply two coats also before my makeup. My makeup doesnt get oily until around 5! and I wakeup at 7! Plus I have very oily skin! My skin is clearing up also! Just wanted to share and hope someone will try this!

Ok, so I was gona put this in the “Why are guys so afraid of make-up? ” thread, but decided to make my own because it’s not just about guys
I still think guys wearing makeup is weird, I don’t couldn’t care less if they wear it, it’s their choice and who am I to stop them, and if it makes them feel better about themselves good on them. I just like expressing my opinions.
I think the entire concept of wearing makeup in general has many flaws and can create some serious problems for a lot of people. Example - my sister wears makeup nearly 24/7 she can’t live without it, and when she washes it off she always complains about how disgusting her skin is, the redness, uneven skin tone, oiliness, the works and it’s really sad when I see her like that. I’m sure there are a lot of chicks and even guys out there that also think this when all they need to do is start getting use to the skin they were given instead if plastering there face with, and if there not happy do something about it via the inside of your body instead of the outside, think about what kind of food your eating and your life style choices, like the old saying goes – you are what you eat, instead of covering it up with stuff that suffocates your skin and probably doesn’t do it any good in the long run. I know there are some of you that can’t go without makeup because you have rosacea or something similar but all I can say is try not to use it so much.
Some of you probably think I’m being a hypocrite seeing as I have acne and use stuff to help my skin via the outside of my body, but I’m speaking strictly in terms of wearing makeup not regimens to help get rid of acne. Or you may be thinking “what would he know, he doesn’t wear makeup”, I don’t have to wear it to have an opinion about it
But just have a think about it the kind of makeup used today has never even been used before and no one really knows for sure what the long term effects are. They could be good, they could be bad but why take the risk if you already have bad skin now, imagine what your skin will be like when you’re old. Your acne may be gone but imagine what all those years with makeup on your face everyday would have done.
If you disagree with me, or have a different opinion please reply to this. I would like to hear your side of the story.

hi ladies and gentlemen!
I just wanna know if you heard about that powder. I ve been suffering from acne for years and unfortunately I have to make up generally on my daily routine

but I couldnt find a good powder or foundation that doesnt make me broke out , cover well and control shine. I ve tried mineral ones also but because of the brush application it also causes me break out cuz my skin is so sensitive and reacts against to make up brushes.
So yesterday the girl in the pharmacy recommended this powder to me. I controlled ,it doesnt contain any bismuth or talc and she said it also fights against acne. but I want to know if it covers well and control shine... anyone tried this before?

I hear philosophy kiss me clear tube is good, but on MUA people complain about a smell. Has anyone tried it? I'd be using it as a lip balm. I currently use Vaseline, and my boyfriend won't kiss me with it on, because he hates the smell (I don't smell anything) and texture. If he wouldn't kiss me with kiss me clear tube on, either, that would defeat the purpose of finding a new balm.

Any users of Jane Iredale products on the site? What are you thoughts? I was just browsing the internet and saw some of their products that look interesting, however some things about it scare me to use it...such as the Tinted Moisturizer. The TM has algae extract, which I read can cause breakouts...
I was also interested in possibly trying Mineral Makeup...I know Jane Iredale has some as well, but can anyone give me Mineral Makeup basics? For example, I really don't use powder as a foundation, so how am I suppose to use powder foundation if it cakes!? Also, what are some good drugstore Mineral Makeup products to try? (NO BARE MINERALS OR SHEER COVER. Post them and I will exterminate you...no, jk. Just don't mention these two, since I read too much about them that I don't want to bother to try).
Thanks!

I have had acne for a while and I find it frustrating finding a makeup that will not clog and aggravate acne but also cover well. I have really persistent acne and I want to find a make up that works and i can keep using. It seems if i have tried tons of different brands and different textures. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for my make-up deliema?

Does anyone know a good company that sells cosmetics for men? Preferably all natural products...
I just need something to cover the red spots and active acne on special occasions or when I just feel like looking my best.. and maybe some powder to get a more even skin tone?
I found the company 4VOO. Anyone knows anything about them? They certainly are not selling all natural products but they claim that they sell quality stuff.

Ok so I have acne all over my face, like everywhere, not so much on my forehead but my cheeks are fully covered and my chin is pretty bad too. I wear makeup but the problem is, it looks cakey and when i go out for lunch (which i always do) my face gets greasy/oily and wears off, it looks horrible. I think people figured out I wear makeup recently because this asshole kid who is on my lunch will crack a makeup joke if theres ever an opprotunity, for example: we were walking and there was some mascara container on the ground and someone threw it at him and he said "i dont paint my face with makeup" and looked at the guy who threw it at him and they smerked like smug bastards. I HATE that ppl know =( anyways it's too late to do anything about that, but i need a natural looking makeup that doesn't wear off or look greasy. Also I tried using milk of magnesia as a laxative and i dont get those amazing results that everyone else does. ALSO my makeup doesn't even cover the acne like you can see all of it but its less red, still a little red, but obviously not as bad as not wearing any makeup. I need HELP because I feel like I can't sit close to someone because they can tell I'm wearing makeup, although from a decent distance I think it looks great. But like I mentioned I'm in highschool so I'm always sitting right beside ppl and theres nothing i can do. This makes me very tense and I look at the ground a lot. This absoloutely sucks, I'm on the verge of going on accutane but i really don't want to. HELP

Hello. I'm Wynne and I'd like you to step forward with your tale of conquest by EM.
I'm a light olive intensive.
I discovered that EM makeup looks great over some liquid foundations and adds depth and contrast to the monotone color of the liquid foundation.
The intensive formulas can be applied wet or dry! Use a concealer brush with damp foundation to cover blemishes to perfection. Dust and buff the dry foundation over the whole face, starting from the hair line or the sides of the face and you'll have a perfect finish.

Please post your EM tips and tricks.
Clarification: I'm not an Everyday Minerals expert. I started this thread as a bit of a joke; I love the makeup but we are perhaps a bit silly about our love of it so thus this thread.

I am a man. I have like three presentations at my uni per week that I have to give to 50+ people. I need to do something about my face, I think this is a pretty good excuse to use makeup since I have some nasty red marks all over my face.
So, I'm looking for a cosmetics company to cover my red marks. I've been googling for a few days and found very few companies that offer quality natural products. I am looking for a company whose products don't contain any ingredients that might aggravate acne or clog the pores. No parabens, mineral oils, fragrances and alcohol. In other words I am looking for natural products that do not have any possible skin irritants in them.
What would you recommend for a man anyway? Obviously I don't want anyone to realize I am wearing it. Only a concealer stick?

I use foundation to cover three massive acne related scars but have never bought make up wipes or removal what ever. I have been using an exfoliator to remove the make up for the months I've been using foundation on the scars. Is this a bad thing to do? I have noticed that my skin gets red and sore sometimes because I'm exfoliating the area so often....
Any help will be appreciated!

BACKGROUND:
Accutane has been great to me, with one exception: it has left my facial skin thinner, with a very uneven and pale complexion. This is partially due to the havoc that acne wreaked on my face, but also due to Accutane. I have two months to go (2/3 done my course) and am so thankful that my acne is almost completely gone. But if possible, I'd like to be able to enhance the skin I am left with.
If I break out at all-- this product is going to fail my test. I am sick of subpar products sold at high prices. This product, however, seems to promise more than any other tinted moisturizer I have come across. Acne sufferers/Accutane users-- brace yourselves!
I've decided that I am going to give the LA ROCHE POSAY Hydreane Teinte tinted moisturizer a shot. Gradual tanning moisturizers and other such products generally seem to be a guaranteed way to cause yourself breakouts if you are someone who has acne-prone, or acne-inhabited skin, but this one seems promising.
I will put my notes up in this thread once I have been using it for a few days.
My skin type is non-oily.
[attachment=22064:Snapshot...090914_2.jpg]
WHAT I AM TESTING FOR:
-ease of use (does it sweat off? does it look like makeup? is it easy to apply?)
-non-comedogenic or not? (did it cause breakouts? after one week? after two weeks?)
WHERE TO BUY IT:
-In Canada: Shoppers Drug Mart
-Check online for other countries.

So I was looking for a really good coverage foundation b/c I have to attend a wedding soon. And I was looking through youtube and saw some good reviews about Cover Fx Foundation and how it can even conceal tatoos etc. So I went to Shoppers Drug Mart today and got it! Actually I was looking for a sample to try it, but she said they don't give samples and I can return it if I don't like it. I have some hyperpigmentation right now on both cheeks and this stuff covered it nicely. She applied it on my face in the store, the color she gave me is M-70 and it is a good match for me. On their website, they have models with different skin tones and that way it is much easier to pick your color than just looking at the color on its own.
It is water based foundation
oil free
non comodogenic
fragrance free
SPF 15
Canadian $41 (with tax) for 30 ml, so a bit pricey but will probably last me a long time.
I will keep you guys updated how this foundation is working out for me but so far so good

I've been doing a lot of research on th boards about foundations to use to cover red marks and scarring, and it seems like the Doulbe Wear is the best.
(I've tried Revlon Colourstay, didn't like it, just not enough selection in shades and rubbed off too easy.)
Anyway I currently use Chanel Matt Lumiere which I love, but since starting accutane my red marks are really bad from the IB, I lso have some indented scars, and I need something more heavy duty.
I definitely want to try the Double Wear, and so many people on here seem to love it. But I was just wondering if any of you had before foundation and after pics so I can see just how good this foundation actually is

Every single bronzer or blush that I have used has broken me out. I am not sure if it is an allergy but one or two weeks later I will get itchy whiteheads. I want to be able to wear a little bronzer or blush when I go out on the weekends, but I don't want to have to suffer from breakouts.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what products have you found that have worked well?

I recently went on a search to find the best makeup primer for oily and acne prone skin. I rea reviews like no other. I mean seriously for everything. Before I buy it I search the internet looking for hundreds on reviews on products I am interested in. in the long run it takes time but saves me so much money knowing whats a good product and whats not worth my cash. So, in search of the best primer for my oily skin I found that smashbox got great reviews, however it was pricey at $30 a tube, and some reviews stated it broke out their faces. Ugh, so smashbox was a no go. Thats when I stumbled upon a review for another primer that isn't suppose to be a primer............
It's Monistat chafing relief powder gel.
Ok I know what you are thinking...ew. Ok but this product is not for yeast infections lol. It is used for chafing and chapped skin, it just happens to be made by monistat.
So I am reading these reviews from women who have used this chafing gel as a primer on their face and I was quite intriged. Women said it provied them with a silky makeup application that lasted all day. And for us girlies with oily skin that can be a life saver. The gel contains Dimethicone the main active ingrediant in any other primer and many people comared this primer to the famous smashbox photo finish primer. I went through many reviews, all mostly postive, before I decided to take the plunge and purchase this.
yeah it was a little embarassing walking through walmart in the feminine care aisle and getting it but whatever those people probbly would never see me again. The monistat chafing reflief powder gel was $5.50 so wow huge savings compared to any other primer. I hav now been using this item for a couple days and I cannot tell you how glad I am I got this! It smooths my skin and controls my oil all day. My makeup does not look fresh all day but for like 12-13 hours its good! It sucks up the oil and somehow I really believe it has taken away some redness (other reviewers mentioned this too.) Seriously ladies you have got to try this if u want you makeup to stay all day and control your oil. just apply it after your moisturizer but before your foundation. only a small dab will work for your whole face so i can imagen this will last a long time. I AM SO IN LOVE! and for the record it has not broken me out at all. If anything my skin looks and feels smoother!

I can't believe it has taken me so long to cry out for help but here I am! I have been wearing a light foundation that my cousin told me was more of a moisturizer but it does say foundation on it. It's the Jessica Alba one, the one that's apparently very easy to blend. I have been using it on occasions for the past few months.
So here's my dilemma.. sometimes the foundation rubs on good and blends well but other times, the foundation has like black spots on it and than as soon as I apply it to my face, it goes too dark for my skin. What are this black dots? I rubbed it on my wrist even with the black spots and it blended perfectly but with my face, maybe because of the redness, scarring, it doesn't all the time? Is the foundation getting too old? Is that why it has black spots?
Why do girls put on foundation under make up? Should i be doing that? Keep in mind that I only use it on a couple scars as they are VERY bad and VERY red.
PLEASE ANY HELP! Give me all of your years of knowledge. Please. I find myself applying it and it goes wrong than having to wash off the make up and do it again and again and by that time my freaking skin is so aggrevated. PLEASE HELP

hmmm, i stumbled upon a poster on another makeup board saying that foundations in general are bad for skin. i remember wearing my mac studio fix everyday for a week cuz i was staying over at a relative's place, i put it on in the mornings and take it off in the evening. i didn't break out or anything, no pimples, but my skin looked so dull and unhealthy. so to cover all this up, i use studio fix again, and my skin looks even worse. it's a vicious cycle. and that was the end of using foundation for me. i've then switched to mineral powders, and it doesn't affect the state of my skin at all. (EDIT: ha, it apparently clogs up my pores. oy.

)
there're pictures of celebrities with no makeup on, and their skin looks pretty horrible too. not acne-wise, but that it's missing this healthy skin glow. i mean, after years of wearing heavy makeup, it's bound to worsen their skin, right?
can we have a scientifically-based discussion on this? are there certain ingredients found in foundations (and makeup in general) that make it bad for skin?

hi all, im 19 years old guy (YES A GUY!!) and just recently broke out with hormonal acne,
i cant deal with this, its very mild and i consider myself lucky but i just still feel self counsious
i used to go out proberly every day of the week and now i only go out fridays and saturdays
too a shamed to show my skin. it was a hard decision as i didnt wanna get busted for using foundation but it started of with a dermalogica spot treatment which was also a concealer which i applied to most of my cheeks to cover, then i bought the 1g dermalogica foundation which i found shitter then the spot treatment, obviously i know jackshit bout makeup. The big problem is, its look very nice and natural untill someone takes a photo of you with flash then my face just fully stands out like a ghost and you can easily tell im using foundation, my skin is proberly normal tanned, not pale but not really tanned, could it be i chose the wrong shade? can someone please recommend a nice natural concealor for a dude in australia? or guide me to how i should be applying it to make it look professional? im not a poof or anything, i just have really big events coming up and my acne is still been a bitch and i wanna be able to take nice photos.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
