If I understand it correctly, Accutane causes your oil glands to produce less oil either by constricting the gland's opening or by actually shrinking the gland.

Does your body try to compensate for this decreased output by trying to produce more oil? Or does the body not really know about this foreign chemical which reduces the output?

I've been on 10 mg/day (I weigh roughly 77 kg) for 2.5 months. My oil output decreased significantly to the point where I could put my finger on my problem area and not see the "glaze" on my fingertip.

However, in the last week or so, I've noticed more oil. It's almost as if my body is saying "Hey where is all that oil I'm trying to produce? Let's crank up the output!"

Salicylic acid or retin-a? Most of the time, these bumps will sit under the surface for weeks and then finally become inflamed, taking 10+ days to heal. When I stretch my skin tight and see them forming, what's the best way to attack them early?

I rarely hear of this combination of treatments, but it seems like it would make sense. Accutane works at the deeper levels (the source of sebum) to prevent future breakouts, while SA works at the top levels to slough off dead skin. Plus, SA is milder than Retin-A.

I would think that with enough moisturizer to combat the Accutane and the SA, this would be a successful combo.

Has anyone on here had success with this?

I am 17 days into 10mg/day of Claravis. This is a very low dosage for me -- I am roughly 170lbs (77 kg), but my acne is mild but usually deep and very persistent, so I was fortunate to find a derm willing to give me any at all.

Is it safe to use Retin-A once or twice per week while on such a low dosage?

Does a normal course of accutane (4-6 months based on body weight) hinder your immune's system ability to fight acne on its own? What about a low dose course (ex: 10 mg/day for a few months for very mild acne)?
