I've had a big cyst near my eye that I've been putting Benzaclin and Taz on for 5 days, but it's not going down. So I thought I'd try minocycline, but after reading about it and many posts, I'm afraid to start. I took doxy about 10 years ago but don't remember if I had any trouble with it or not. The part that worries me about the mino is that it will decrease birth control and you can't take calcium supplements within 3 hours and also can't eat within 2-3 hours of taking it. I have osteoporosis and take birth control to help with that and also need to take 1500mg of calcium a day. I also have low blood sugar and need to eat every 3-4 hours. Do you really have to wait that long before eating? Would it be worth it to try it for 3 months? That's how much my presription is for.

Hey, I am just wondering but have any of you guys had good results with Benazymcn gel? My doctor told me that what I was using is to harsh, and just irritating my senstive prone skin, so he told me that this wouldn't be as irritating for me..And said that this is a great product, thats effective, yet not so irritatble. He warned me the first few days(no more then a week) my skin will prolly have some irritation, but will subside as I continue with it..I hope so..I am fed up with my senstive, acne proned skin.

Plus i got a preety bad wound yesterday cut myself and got a puncture wound and they asked me if i was on any medication and said no is that ok. i might have to get a tetunus shot because its preety deep and cut bad

Well Doxy seems to work well for me, it keeps my face crystal clear, i only apply Benzaclin once a day and my skin is amazingly clear...god i love it, you have no idea.
Anyways i know the Doxy eventually is going to stop working, so my question is what do i go on after that? What's a better oral Antibiotic besides Doxy? Also once i switch to another oral Anti, can i take Doxy like 6 months after that?
So could i do this?
Doxy>>> Some other antibiotic for 3-5 months>>> Doxy?
Will i always be immune to it? Or just for a few months?

Well my mom said she has money left over in her flex plan, and she kind of wants me to see a doctor for my acne. My sister just went 1 or 2 months ago and got a prescription, and the doctor said if I came in then she would give it to me to. I think it was called erythromycine or something like that. My sister only had mild acne, but it's pretty much gone now. I have moderate acne, and pretty oily skin.
Do you think this will work for me, and what about when I stop using it, will my acne be worse?

ok ive been on mino and differin for over a year. my acne is very slowly getting better and better but like i said its happening VERY slowly. not like how most of the time you see people get to a certain level and then just maintains that level. i wonder if this is how the mino works for me or does this mean that i had reached a certain point with mino and the reason my acne is very slowly getting better is because im slowly growing out of it (im currently 19, had bad acne since 15/16 went on accutane when i was 16/17 acne started coming back and been on mino since i was 17)

Hey everyone, I have been on 100mg minocycline pills since mid-July. They initially were working quite well, I didn't have any serious breakouts, and I didn't have the dryness from my previous Duac treatment. Yet now a huge breakout just came out of nowhere. The breakout doesn't include many big zits or pimples, it's just an allover redness with small pimples all over. I've been trying to fight it with bp, but all I have is this 1% combination with salicyclic acid. It has helped a little but overall not much at all. I was told that this might be the initial breakout that comes with minocycline. I never had the so-called "initial breakout," but doesn't that usually happen in the first week or so? Im almost three months into treatment, what should I do? Thanks.

So I'm sitting here googling to see if there are any long term side effects to the antibiotic (which I got last week) when I find on wikipedia about how minocycline can cause something called benign intracranial hypertension, which is basically like benign tumors. Now I know that I have only been on it for like 9 days now but I got some really strange headaches lately and I noticed that these are a symptom. Also I noticed that it sometimes seems like there is something in my eye, and when I go to get it out cause I can't see, theres nothing there. I'm kinda getting scared because those are the first two symptoms! Has anyone else had this and if so can you please reassure me that i'm only being a hypocondriac?!

Are there any that seemed to have worked for you?? I understand most antibiotics dont work before accutane, but has a much higher success rate after accutane.
Thanks!

I've been on Tetracycline, 1g a day (2 x 500mg) for a month now and there's one thing that's been driving me crazy!
The derm said that i should take the pill either one hour after a meal or 3 hours after. Anyway, in the morning i eat my breakfast and 3 hours later i take my Tetracycline, right? But the problem is that by that time i'm really really hungry...
Anyway, my question is: how much time should i wait after taking the Tetracycline to eat again?
Thank you!

what meds are there that you only take once a week or as little as posible i hate HATE HATE HATE HATE taking -------- pills!!!! (yet my doc doesnt seem to care) i HATE it what is there that you take as little as possible for maximum effects? i heard there was somethign not prescribed too often for acne that you only take 2 x's a week or so (i heard from my g-ma who is ex derm nusre of many years)
if this dont work out (i hafta keep taking two F*****G mino pills a day) i will stop and start downing VIT A by the bottle if it clears up my acne great, if not i will die (and that might be great too!)
PS: whats something i really hate...

Hello all. I have a question regaurding doxycycline. I was on minocycline for about a year and I became immune to it and my acne came back. Now my derm is talking about putting me on doxycycline. Since my body is already immune to minocycline will it also be immune to doxycycline since they are in the same family? Also, do I have any hope for better results, or is it most likely that I will simply become immune and have acne once again?

To help with my zits. He said since minocycline didn't seem to work, we'll try this, and if this doesn't work, we'll have to start on accutane. Yay.
I'm also using Tazorac (0.1) and this BP cleanser.
Has anyone used Alesse for acne? Does it work?
(If I'm posting on the wrong board, let me know please.

I was on Minocycline the begining of summer and saw a rapid improvement that last about 2 weeks then I seemed like i was back at square one. I was taking 100mg a day. My Derm just recently up'd the dosage to 200mg a day. Do you think this will have a better effect, and if so how long till I'll notice? or do you think it just doesnt work for me.
Thanks everyone

Does anyone know if antibiotics inhibits the absorption of iron from iron rich foods or supplements? I am on Doxycycline.

Hello . . . I haven't been as active here lately because I've had enough success to not worry about it so much. After six weeks on mino, I became very discouraged, but then, around week eight I began to see significant improvement. I still get real mild breakouts, but nothing to be embarrassed about, which, after my long fight with acne, is enough to keep me content.
Also in my regimen: Morning wash with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, followed by Cetaphil spf 15 moisturizer --- and then in the evening, wash with Cetaphil, let dry, then apply Benzaclin topical gel. I take two mino pills a day, from which I have experienced NO negative side effects.
I also quit smoking around the time of starting this regimen, which could only have helped the situation, but I do not think is the cause. The only problem is that I know I can't be on mino forever, and that, at 25, the underlying cause of my acne is not going away. But whatever, I'm much happier right now, and much less self-conscious around others.
If you haven't tried a similar regimen, and fear the intensity of an accutane course, give it a shot.

I am currently taking Cephalexin 500 mg 3x a day... as my skin improves, I was thiking of lowering my dosage to 2x a day and eventually to 1x a day, etc. - I also have a Rx for a topical antibiotic, so I can use that as I finish up the IB phase of my RAM.
Anyone have any advice?
