Hi all,
Here is my case. I had what I thought to be mild acne. It worsened a lot and I started to have a lot of bloody red spots on beard.
My dermatologist said I had infected folliculitis and acne.
Here is my regiment :
CLEANSING : Hyfac Fragrance and Paraben Free Acne Skin Cleanser
1 time a week : Hyfac Express Exfoliant
SHAVING : NoBacter anti bacterial shaving gel + 3 blades Wilkinson
TREATMENT :
FIrst 2 weeks : fight folliculitis
- Mupiderm (topical antibiotic against folliculitis)
- Pyostacine (general strong antibiotic against folliculitis)
Then :
- Tetracycline (300 mg a day - 2 pills a day at evening)
- Dalacin T TOpical (Topical Clindamycin)
- Benzoyl Peroxyd ECLARAN 5 (5 % peroxyd benzoyl)
If this doesn't work after 2 months, then I go for ACCUTANE.
After a first day. Nothing to notice. Shaving made my skin redder and bloodier tonight and I prefer not to look in the mirror...

Hi.
My name is Courtney and I am a 21 year old female from Southern Ontario, Canada. I have battled with acne for the past year.
Prior to this, my skin was like porcelain. I am naturally very fair and had a flawless complexion, but February of last year I had my BCP switched and I stopped biting my nails. Hormonal hell followed (henceforth called my "horrormones") and to compensate for not biting, I started picking my face.
I am a habitual and horrible picker and am about to begin therapy for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (I'm just happy I know what's wrong with me know and I can work towards getting better). My skin consumes my every single thought and I often spend hours in front of mirrors picking, prodding, and honestly severely screwing up skin.
I have been on everything: Proactiv (which worked while my skin was flawless I could stop using it and it would be fine, I just liked the idea of skin care back-up), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, Retin-A (which screwed me up beyond ALL repair so it seems), Differin, clindamycin, and tea tree oil. I also switched BCP from Alesse (high androgenic content) to Marvelon (low androgenic contect) and this has helped with oil. My doc decided today to put me on oral antibiotics instead of topical and here I am, about to embark on a new skin care adventure.
The Regimen
Morning
ginger-lemon tea
three omega 3-6-9 vitamin
BCP
Spectrojel for Sensitive Problem Prone Skin
Neutogena Alcohol Free Toner
Impruv cream
(Did I mention I have really really sensitive skin?)
Non-comedogenic foundation and concealer
Night
non-comedogenic make up remover
Spectrojel
toner
moisturizer
1 pill 100 mg Minocin
Most importantly: NO PICKING. I have been told by my doctors to write DON'T PICK on all the mirrors that I frequent for this around my house. I also have to learn to stop "feeling" my acne as this only makes things worse and makes me more anxious, worried, and depressed. I am also on a milk-free diet as it causes the worst of the breakouts.
Three months of this. I'm hoping this is it. My acne is moderate: few blackheads on my forehead, full nose of blackheads, cheeks have blackheads, white heads, papules and pustules, upper lip has occasional pustules (especially if my better half hasn't shaved in awhile), chin is by the far the worst though with microcomedones, blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, and occasionally a big old cyst.
I haven't had a clear skin in over a year and I refuse to wear heavy make up in the summer. I'm going to make my skin whether it wants to be or not. Healing from the inside out.
Treatment begins tonight. I will try to update daily for myself.
Here goes nothing

So... I have been on Tetracycline for about 5 days now... So far, LITTLE improvement, but I am not sure that isn't just because I completely burned my skin off using a ton of Clean and clear BP. I have decided, as of today, that I am going to try my hardest to stop using the topical bp. It is basically ruining my skin. I am 27 and my skin is dry and flaky, and I have wrinkles that I should not have at this age. I have been caking the BP on every single night for the last 5 years!!!! I took accutane about 6 years ago, and my skin has just started to break out again these last few months.

So... basically, I am going to keep track of how the tetra works and also how it goes not using any topicals.
I will just be taking the tetra (500 mg) once daily, Yasmin and Zinc (50 mg I think) once daily.
On my skin I will be washing with Skinceuticals twice daily, and at night using a Clarisonic facial brush. So...it will be really hard for me not to use the bp, but I have to stop. It is worse to have extrememely dry skin and acne...

Hello! Hello! I'm new here but I don't feel new. I've been visiting and reading for over a year and finally decided to get an account. I have moderate acne and I've had it since 8th grade. I'm in the 11th now and I've tried all sorts of stuff. Tons of topical medications and tetracycline which absolutely failed(my new dermatologist actually told me that he wasn't surprised when I told him this. Tetracycline, apparently, has never worked and it has been dropped by most dermatologists

).
Today I went to a new dermatologist and he prescribed me Amoxicillin(500 mg, twice a day) and Differin. I was okay with the Differin. I've heard about it, heard generally good things about it and I'm willing to give it a shot. It was the Amoxicillin that caught me off guard. I mean, Amoxicillin? I've taken it before for other infections of the sort but never acne. So, I don't know how much faith I have in my new dermatologist right now. Especially after also he told me to use Acne Free or Proactiv. My mouth fell open in shock. I can remember thinking
he did NOT just tell me to try Proactiv. When I told him I tried everything I wasn't kidding.
I was not very happy with that.
I'm completely willing to try Amoxicillin and I was just wondering if anyone has used it too and seen good results or have heard anything good about it. I'm just hoping that I won't get a yeast infection. He did warn me about that...
I'm also going to cut milk out of my diet for a while and see how that goes. My father isn't pleased with this considering the fact that we are really big milk drinkers in my house but I figure that it's worth a shot.

I have had moderate to severe acne for about 3 years and my derm suggested clarithromycin to me. I have been taking this for about 1 month and there is not much improvement. A few of my pimples has gone smaller but none has disappeared yet quicker than the usual rate and new ones still keep forming.
I will try to keep posting about once a week about my new situation
Is there anyone else using this regimen and had some success?

It has been 7 days since my visit to the derm and 7 days since I've been using the prescribed medicine.
I'm on 100mg Doxycyclinum (Dotur) a day and Erythromycinum (Aknefug-EL) to tone my face.
My regimen is:
Morning
washing face with water
applying a little of Aknefug-EL
Evening
100mg Doxycyclinum
washing face with water and soap (without fragrances or dyes)
occasionally a little of jojoba oil with tea tree oil
Since that beginning of autumn I've had the most terrible acne I've had in my life. Lots of huge red pus-filled pimples that made my face all sore. My habit of picking skin didn't help much either.
Around the middle of autumn I've quit using any moisturizers (only the occasional jojoba oil), cleansers, toners and etc. This made my skin a little less irritable, but it was still hellish.
I finally got around to visiting a derm, though was very skeptical. He put me on 100mg Doxycyclinum and in the beginning of January i shall have to make an appointment with him once more to check up on my progress.
I was skeptical to say the least in using antibiotics, especially after haring about all the side effects and so on. The most I was expecting was to have few less puss-filled pimples by the end of the month. Nothing more.
I must say I am very surprised.
The first day I took Doxy (Monday Evening) I could swear i felt my face heat up a little but only for few minutes and nothing more.
Woke up the second day and was surprised to see no new pimples just the ones before and a little less redness. Took the second pill.
Third day: all of the large pustules and paupules were reduced to almost nothing.
Fourth day: All of the large scary pustules were gone and only left behind slightly reddish marks.
Skipping straight to today, the Seventh day.
I can say my skin condition improved a LOT. I don't want to jinx it, but i can really feel the difference. My skin is soft now, the color is once again almost a lovely ivory if not for the reddish marks. One of the things that made me realize how good my skin became was my obsessive habit of picking my skin. Today when I would look in the mirror the urge was very little, i just didn't see anything to try and squeeze. I'm hoping Doxy will also help me get rid of the habit of hurting my skin.
During all the time I used Doxy I felt no side effects what-so-ever. I'm waiting for the appointment with the derm eagerly, hoping that now we'll be able to work on on all the left little bumps (whiteheads or some sort) now.
Three more weeks of Doxy. Hope all goes well. :>

I could write pages about my battles, but I'll save you all that. I'm a 26 year old female. Struggled with acne since I was a teenager. Started getting cysts about the age of 22. I've been a acne.org lurker for years, on and off. I've struggled with what I think is hormonal acne. Some years are better than others. This year has been an off year. I used to get one cyst per month along with my non-inflamed acne. So far this month I have four.

The random pimples do not bother me in the slightest. There's nothing more damaging to your self-confidence than having nickle-sized lumps on your face. The cysts have became so frequent that I've starting getting scars in the last year.
So, I've started on my Minocycline journey. I know it isn't the best option. But right now, it's the only one I've got. I've taken it before, for a short period of time, with results. I just started a week ago. I'm taking 100 mg twice a day. When I started last week, I had a cluster of three "smaller" cysts on my chin. And one lone cyst on my nose.
Today the cyst on my nose has went down and not caused too much ruckus. But, the three on my chin, apparently, are not intimidated by the Mino. I had a couple non-inflamed spots appear in the last couple days. I'm thinking I may try and use an epsom salt soak on my chin area. Has anyone tried the epsom salt? I've heard it helps draw the cyst to a head.

Hey guys.
I started taking minocycline (50 mg.) the day before Christmas. I try and take it at the same time every day, with water. I also take vitamin A (I'm not sure if this will help me any) and use benzoyl peroxide, #5.
So I have a few questions/ problems:
1. When the $&% are these antibiotics supposed to kick in and clear up my face?
2. What should I eat/drink to help speed up the process? What foods/drinks should I avoid?
3. The benzoyl peroxide tears off my face. Like my skin peels off where I put it. Will this ever stop? Can I prevent it?
4. Will vitamin A help acne?
thanks guys. any advice you have would be appreciated.

I started taking Minocycline, 100mg, twice a day, about 10 days ago. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar side effect. I noticed 5 days ago that it seemed like my uvula (the hangy thing in the back of your throat) felt like it was closer to my tongue. I had some nasal drainage yesterday and it was very challenging to swallow. I don't know if this is an allergic reaction to the medication, just a side effect, or hay fever. I took some allergy meds and the nasal drainage went away but the heaviness of my uvula didn't. I haven't called my dermatologist yet, b/c I wanted to give my body some time to adjust to the new antibiotic. Any suggestions?

Hey guys i was wondering if you could give me some imput. I have been on mynocicline 100 mg a day for a little longer than 3 months. It's stopped the acne from forming in general. However i have these red dots now, actually quite a bit more than before i started that don't seem to be dissapearing. I have a retinoid gel that i was prescribed for treatment but it's way too strong. It helps with pimples, but only aggravates the red spots. I was wondering if you guys know if upping my dosage to two pills a day would get rid of these red spots.

I know this isnt a long-track treatment such as accutane. But since accutane was for people who had already tried anti-biotics, i'm doing that now. I was a bit disapointed i could find a log of tetracyclin so i could see the progress and thins you go through.
Day 1Picked up my prescription today. 250mg once a day (Alphapharm).
I'm starting the treatment on a day on my "recovery" part of my acne breakouts so it's nearly gone. However i hope that this will stop my breakouts and remove the "generic" acne i have always. The pills look funny btw, a whiteish grass green color.
Havnt felt any side effects yet of course. Had lasagna

Acne atm is limited to one active cyst on the right eyebrow and redness from 3-4 recovering cysts on left cheek, redness on the bottom of the cheek and small cyst behind right ear, as well as redness forhead left side.

I was on Minocycline 50mg back in september and I finished at the end of november (3month cycle). After being off the antibiotic I broke out on my back pretty bad. I went to the doctor early december and was prescribed doxy for a week 100mg/twice a day. All the stuff on my back is gone and my face has never looked so good. I recently started the regimen too. I don't know if it's the antibiotic or the regimen or both. Probably, both working together. Anyways, I start minocycline 50mg/day today for 6 months. I feel like this might be a long time to be on an antibiotic. Although, my acne is very minimal when I'm on it. My skin responds quickly when I'm on oral antibiotics.
Quicker Version: Finished 3 month cycle in November, start 6 month cycle today: both being 50mg/day.
Everything is clear after Doxy for 1 week.
with that being said is 6 months too long after getting off a 3 month cycle a month ago. ?????
