Hi all!
I'm starting this log to see how I'm progressing and maybe help other acne sufferers out. Also any advice is welcome!

This is also my first weblog ever but I guess there's a first time for everything.
Some personal information.Well, I'm a male, 17 years old and I'm living in The Netherlands (so I will probably make some grammar mistakes haha

).
I've had acne from the age of 13 tough untill I hit 15 it was very mild, nothing to worry about. From age 15 to now I've had very persistent mild to moderate acne. When I just turned 16 I was pretty much at where I am now. I started using a topical antibiotic called Inderm which cleared me up within 2 months. After that I kept applying the antibiotic for 5 more months untill eventually I became immune and all my acne came back 2 times worse.
So I went back to my GP and he prescribed me Differin 0.1 and 3 weeks later oral Minocycline to help manage the initial breakout. I was on it for 3 months and it didn't do shit. So I guess it's back to topical antibiotics. The oral Clindamycin can be seen as an oral antibiotic solution when other oral antibiotics have failed.
I have high hopes for this treatment because topical antibiotics cleared me up before and I've red a lot of succes stories about oral Clindamycin. Should this treatment fail to work as well, my GP will send me to see a dermatologist. In The Netherlands it's pretty much certain Roaccutane is prescribed when this happens. So I guess if my antibiotics treatment fails, Roa is the next step.
I'm suposed to see my GP again in 2 weeks if it hasn't improved anything by then, Roa it is.
I will update this log every week and will add my 'before' pics soon. I will also post new pics every 2 weeks (if I can figure out how that is done

).
Current condition:Well I haven't even popped a pill yet so no changes ofcourse. At the moment I'm still recovering from differin. My skin got really red and oily from it (I never had oily skin before

) so combine that with my acne and it looks like utter shit.
I've always had acne around my chin and mouth and since this year it also started growing on my temples and jawbones. I also get the occasional pimple on my cheeks. I have about 15 active zits on my face right now. About 3 on my temples, 2 on my cheeks, 5 on my jawbones and 10 spread around my mouth and chin. I also have a load of red marks but I will deal with those later.
All my pimples are pustules, whiteheads and maybe 2 papules. I only had about 3 cysts and no nodules during my acne carreer.
Mentally I'm a real wreck at the moment. I really hoped for the Differin/Minocycline treatment to work and be clear around now.

I feel like I'm really trying to avoid being around people (even my friends), so please antibiotics clear me up fast so I can get back to my life! Also school is starting in 10 days, I wonder what people will say because most haven't seen me since spring break started and I was a lot more clearer back then.
I will update my log in a week but I will keep an eye out for any advice or qeustions.

I will add some 'before' pics within 2 days.
Thanks for reading,
L

Ok starting tonight i am starting this regimen. I have finally decided to get on a topical regimen and it was between Retin A .01% or benzaclin. I figured since i have been using benzaclin as a spot treatment only the past 6+ months and it worked as a spot treatment when it is suppose to be used as an topical over all affected areas, i might as well try this first. I was also considering using retin A at night and then using benzaclin in the morining. So hard to decide lol.
I am going to need a little help though as far as application goes. If i do not get responses by late tonight i guess i will just wing it as best as i can

What i plan on doing is washing face gently with the acne.org cleanser and then applying a thin layer all over chin and letting it set in. Not sure if i should moistuirze over it tonight or not? I will start off by only doing it at night to see how skin reacts and then maybe after a week do it night and day, but untill then i will spot treat the actives during the day.
I am hoping applying benzaclin w/moisturizer will help clear and keep my acne at bay. If this does not work then i will move on too Retin A. I will give it 3 months, depending on how much i figure out by trial and error applying this all over chin for first time.
So tonight it starts and currently i have spot treatment on a nasty nodule on left of my chin and about 3 smaller pimples that are fading. Red marks all over chin and on bottom lip line. I might also try to incoporate the acne.org AHA as a moisturizer as well a few times a week to see how that goes, but after a couple of weeks or so. Anyway here goes nothing.............tonight will be day 1. Praying for the best

Right, well basically I've been struggling with pustules around my mouth for a few years. They hurt like hell sometimes, even when I'm just moving my mouth. I was on Dan's Regemin for approximately 15 weeks and it made no difference to my skin.
So last week I went to the doctors and she prescribed me Zineryt to apply on the areas I get acne. Here's my log for me to keep track and for others to read.
I started with Zineryt on the 6th August 09, I'm currently on day 4. I found that my skin felt softer for the first 2 days, but today I've developed a whitehead and a huge pustule just below my mouth.
I'm hoping this works. If it wasn't for my acne Michael Mann said he would've cast me in Public Enemies.
...honest.

Hello, I'm "Dictionary".
I'm __ Years old, and have decided to start a log to help myself see how I am doing.
I have mild acne, but after a while I have finally had enough. I eventually got the confidence to talk to my parents about my acne and i decided i wanted to go the doctors.
So, i was first of all prescribed Zineryt, and after 8 weeks there was little improvement. So i went back to the doctors and i have now been given Oxytetracycline Tablets (250mg).
I will be taking 2 tablets twice a day, and have enough for 8 weeks.
This is the whole course, from day one.
I would be happy to add any information if anybody is interested. And ill hope to update daily.
I do have alot of swimming training. So if this is linked?
Would love to hear any experiences with Oxytetracycline. and any advice.
Thanks

I have been on minocycline for about 2 years now. I been taking 100mg in the morning and 100mg at night and just 1 week ago i decided to stop taking it to see if i would still break out. I did and its bad... But thats not the only reason i stopped.. i stopped because i was having digestive problems. I read that it kills the good bacteria in your system and can make you constipated/get other digestive problems.
Also when i take it in the morning i have to wait 1 hour to eat then 2 hours to take my vitamins.. kind of a hassle. And when i go outside in the sun i get dizzy and i also notice i get little red pigments on my face out of no where. I am wondering if i should go back on it and take 100mg or 200mg at night.. i just hope i dont have the side effect problems.. Any advice?? thanks in advance!!

I've basically never had any acne at all until 2-3 weeks ago when my forehead exploded and now I would say it's moderate-severe. My doctor gave me 50mg Minocycline along with 5% BP and Tretenoin. My parents insisted that I got the same antibiotics as my sister, since her's worked but she was also given birth control pills since she started her acne when she started...that once a month thing. He told me that I should take 1 50mg pill every morning, and I did for the first 3 days. But my sister told me that I'm supposed to 100mg, once in the morning and once in the evening. I haven't noticed much change, but it's only been 4 days and I read that severe acne is advised to take 200mg a day? Should I ask my doctor for a higher dosage, or is 100mg an usual amount for getting started? Also, how long will it take to see some results?

Hey everyone,
I now use minocycline for 1 month and 2,5 weeks, but i still break out and the only difference before using minocycline is that the pimples are smaller. I think minocycline isnt working for me...
I also noticed last holiday (2 weeks ago) that sea water doesn't work for me anymore to clear me up, last year without using minocycline I was totally clear. ( but maybe my acne is stronger or resistant )
How long will it take for an antibiotic to work? Is 1 month and 2,5 weeks too short to clear me up?
I know everybody is different, but i think it isnt working for me. Sorry if my English is bad

oh, and 1 more thing, maybe it is just bulshit

but 2 years ago before my acne started, mosquitoes didn't bite me anymore... but now 2 months ago just before using mino mosquitoes started to bite me again. And the last 2 months my acne is less than the period before. Maybe this is an indication that my acne is getting better?

Hi all! I am a 26 year old female who has been struggling with acne since I was about 15 or so. I've been to countless dermatologists and tried countless medications, antibiotics, creams, gels, etc. Nothing helped. When I turned 22 I started to get acne mainly on my chin and jawline. It wasn't the normal acne I was used to, it hurt and felt hard and deep. I think they are cysts. I still get them and decided today to go (again) to a new dermatologist and get medicated.
I was given Doryx once a day and Ziana to use at night time, every other day for the first two weeks. After two weeks I need to use the Ziana every night. I'm really hoping this combo will help, but if it doesn't I have discussed the possibility of going on Spiro with my doctor. I have scarring from the cysts but I don't mind tackling that once I get the acne under control. As far as other medications I am on, I am going to be starting the Nuva Ring at my next cycle.
I am going to try to post pictures here often so I can compare how my skin looks while on the treatment.

Basically PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THEM.
i regret it so much.
i was on various ones for about 4 months maybe more !
either way, the side effects during and after are not worth it. pretty much every case i have seen of acne comes back after stopping the drugs.
I didnt have a clue what i was doing to my body taking all this crap.
Did you know you will likely cause yourself to get candida after taking anti biotics and even pityrosporum folliculitis !!!1 which LOOKS LIKE ACNE but its not...
basically I warn anyone on antibiotics and highly dis a prove of them.
i know a lot of people will disagree. but this is from my experience and i would hate for anyone else to end up worse off for a short term fix.

I wanted to ask what the importance of taking antibiotics with food is, becaause I have to take these 12 hours apart, one in the am, one in the pm, and unfortunately I don't eat breakfast...and I really would not like to start, is there a way to take these pills with just water?
I'm also curious about the possibility of candida overgrowth if anybody has a clue...Should I be taking probiotics every day while on mino or every other day or just a few times a week?

Hi All
I just switched from mino to ampicillin 2X500/day. I also started taking fish oil in the hopes that will help.. I've never used ampicillin before-I have used tetracycline and mino-the tretra also worked better, but of course lost its effectiveness. The pharmacist pointed out some good points. He pointed out that if you're using these antibiotics to also eat yogurt and take acidophilus "live bacteria in pill form" I stopped the mino because of all the GI problems "It was awful". I feel a million times better off it. I was on it for almost 5 months, so the side effects do go away within several days.

Hi all! I have mild to moderate acne, lots of angry whiteheads, few pustules/pauples here and there. Acne predominantly on forehead + temples, spreading down to my cheeks
Previous treatmentsDifferin - never worked
Zineryt - worked for a month or so
Minocycline - prescribed in 2007 when I had very severe acne. Worked perfectly for 17 months. I became "immune", no longer works.
If this next antibiotic doesn't work, I'm being put on Accutane/Roaccutane - bit scary
Current medicationBeen prescribed Oxytetracycline five weeks ago. Two 250mg twice a day. Been taking the wrong dose (1 250mg twice a day) for four weeks

I have been taking the correct dose for a week now, acne has calmed a little. Will update.

I am only 14 when i started to try facial services from reputable and known dermatologists..i do not have pimples but do have lot of blackhead on my nose.. so after the first to fifth treament i am super satisfied.. because my skin gets clearer and smoother.. but after a year i noticed that my skin gets super sensitive.. unlike before.. and my pores are getting bigger..i really regret so after i stopped going to dermatologists..i noticed that i started to have big pimples.. i really regret those times..until trying maxipeel..which makes my skin worst..olay makes my skin worst my pimples getting bigger..benzoyl peroxide my face darkens and and my face so dry.. I am so hopeless until my cousin told me to try pond's facial wash (oil control) and eskinol whitening mix with 300 mg DALACIN-C..since i am so hopeless i tried it..you won' believe it..my skin becomes clearer and my pimples dried up after 1 week.. i also noticed that new pimples doesn't scarred..as if nothing happens.. but the old scar just whitens after 3-5 weeks of using.. i so much satisfied.. a lot of people notice my skin now.. after so much satisfaction..i stop using concealer to cover up pimples, red and black scars because i have to hide now.

I was 11 when i gOt my first huge zit on the center of my nOSE!! and that's where it all started.. blackheads.. whiteheads.. HUGE PIMPLEs all over my face!! that's where it all began.. i've spent 7 years crying myself to sleep, being bullied by everyone, including my relatives, being stared at as if i totally grossed people out. my life was horrible with acne.. I've tried everything:
-nivea products- made my face even more oily
-Mena- didn't do anything
-renow D- gave me even more blackheads
-chinese acne creams- made my face red
-CETaphil- created tons of little bumps on my face
-FORever flawless acne kit- gave me huge pimples on my cheeks
-PROACTIVE SOLUTION- REGRETTED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!! didn't JUST wipe out my wallet.. but gave me even mOre problems like over drying and itching.. totally hated it..
-Tea tree OIL kit from the BOdy Shop- it worked.. kinda.. it was just ok... but didnt really help prevent my pimples from coming back..but LOve the smell
-papaya soap- helped alot! but after a few weeks it all came back..
-kojic acid soap- dried out my skin.. make it red and itchy..
-pond's facial wash- hated it..!!!
-pond's cream- worked for a while..pimple came back after a month..
-Panoxyl- dried out my face too much.. didn't work..
BUT i did FINALLY find something that worked 3 days after using it..
DALACIN C (CLINDAMYCIN) (CLEONCIN) capsuls SAVED MY LIFE..
All u have to do is empty the capsul in one of your favorite toners/cleansers. a cleanser that works for you of course. in 3 days i saw the difference.. It actually prevents new pimples from forming and it dries out present one's.. 1 300mg capsul will do, but after getting used to it, you'll probably need 2, depending how severe your acne is.. you guys may not believe me.. but i'm someone that really suffered as in to death, trying to figure out ways to cure my acne.. i started using this right after i stopped using proactive.. it really works. for oily skin types, u don't need to use any moisturizer at all.. just simply wash your face.. and tone.. this is one of the best solutions most filipinos use.. if u don't see any improvment within 1 week, u can gladly stop it.. but i doubt it..
Clindamycin are good for acne since they attack the bacteria supposedly causing its inflammation ( Propionebacterium acnes). I've personally used it and I was happy with the results. I did not take them orally as they are more effective if you use them on your face directly.Use as much as you want. This way, you won't have to deal with the side effects, you concentrate on the face, you save a lot more money this way, you get better results, and you won't make your body immuned to antibiotics.People and situations are different. For me, it took me two weeks to see significant results. And I had severe acne. I used the Eskinol mixed with Dalacin C as much as I could. There was a noticeable difference in three days. But my face was almost clear in two weeks.Taking Dalacin C everyday or more can be expensive. And there are side effects to be wary about. If you decide to take them by mouth, you will have to take them for two weeks maximum. For the frequency, you will have to ask a doctor. It depends on your body type and medical history.
i use this with ESKINOL derma C cleanser.. 2 times a day..works just perfect.. for severe acne, it may take some time.. bout 2-3 weeks.it may dry out faces for some.. but all u need is a moisturizer that suites u.. and TADAAAA!! acne free.. Its worth a try.. all u need to do is add it to a toner/cleanser u usually use.. may start out with 2 capsuls if severe!
its COmpletely SAFE..
U can buy this at any drug store.. guys.. this may look simple.. but you'll totally THANK me for the results. try this and you'll have no problem with pimples. Plus! you get to have a smoother face.. it's also good for preventing BLACKHEADS....
All u have to do is:
go to a drugstore and buy Dalacin C 300mg.. it's an antibiotic in capsule form..
also buy an astringent about 70-80ml... any brand will do.. use the most famous brand you think you can afford.. astringents with 100-200 ml, u shud use 2 capsuls..
open the capsule and put it all the powder in the bottle of the astringent...
shake it well..and shake before everytime using it
apply this after you wash your face.. 2 times for me..
after a week, your skin will feel soft and your face will start to clear..
if your skin is dry, you can add a capsule or two of vitamin E (400mg capsule) this will help moisturize your skin..
and whenever you have a zit, just put some of this solution on a cotton ball and soak your pimple with it..
your acne will disappear in 2 days or less..
GOOD LUCK!

Sooooo, I've never done a log before, but after reading so many other members logs to see what to expect and even what to ask about at the doctors, I thought maybe I could help some other curious person out as well.
I started taking 100mg twice a day 8/13/07.
I've now been taking it for a week today. I was experiencing "drunkish" symptoms (seriously that's the only way I can describe it) dizzy, lightheaded, foggy, and headaches on the left temple only (I never get headaches). I'm on break from school right now and only work on the weekends so it wasn't a big deal when I was doing nothing. But when I went to work on Saturday and Sunday I just took one at night (so Friday morning, Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night). I didn't have any headaches and I wasn't dizzy. By the way, the headaches went away super fast with 2 advil so I didn't think it was dangerous to continue.
Today is Monday so I'm back to taking twice a day. I feel completely fine. Actually I feel kind of hyper, it's hard for me to sleep lately. I don't know if there is an IB (inital breakout) with mino but my skin looks sooooo gross.
After that nice little introduction, I thought I'd give a kind of outline, maybe not daily but near daily... fall semester starts on the 27th and I may have my oily nose in a book til wee hours of the am... but I'll try to update it every other day. Here's the bullets I'm thinking of, I'll start off every log from here out with these, then I'll talk afterwards, that way you can just get the facts and not have to read me complaining

unless you want to hehe if you want to know anything else just ask

Monday 8/20/07
-Number of days on mino: 7
-Number of pimples: 21
-Number of deep pimples: 3
-Redness of pimples (1-10): 10!!! yikes
-Washing with: Basis Sensitive skin (and I just got Acnexus, after I read how everyone -dislikes it, I only used it once but it make my skin reallllly smooth, I'll use it once a day in the am's)
-Topical: Neutragena on the spot (2.5% bp)
-Moisturizer: Cetaphil (no spf, my makeup has spf, I personally don't like the cetaphil with spf)
-Make-up: Bobby Brown Oil free liquid foundation, Mac Studio fx conceler (for the big ones!), covergirl clean pressed powder (my skin is super oily and this is the only thing that keeps it at bay)
-Mood: eh, I'm starting another new job this week, and full time school at a new university next week, and I look gross.... how do you think I feel?!!?!?! But seriously, besides being stressed and occasionally dizzy I'm feeling good

-What I really want to do: SCREAM! or move the time faster so that it's October and I can go to the derm!!!!
Love ya!

Hello, I've been lurking round these broads for awhile but this is my first post:)
I've had moderate acne since I was 13 and I'm 20 now. I've tried a few things but really didn't let it bother me, hoping I'd grow out of it, till I realised that it was starting to scar and might haunt me into adulthood
Anyway, for a unrelated reason I went on the pill (diane35) which did clear my skin up a bit, although I still had small break outs. I went back to the doctor and he gave me Clindatech (Clindamycin Hydrochloride) a topical. And wow, its been a week and no break outs (so far, fingers crossed

). He didn't give me a repeat so I was wondering, what next? Will they come back once I run out? Is there something I can use to keep them at bay? Or will I need another repeat (I'm reluctant to use it long term ).

So I was just brushing my teeth and noticed that the back of my tongue is covered in pretty big lumps.
i read on google that bumps can sometimes be caused by antibiotics and i was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if it went away.

I am a 27 year old male that would have occasional break outs through my life that were easily treatable, and used Murad Acne program since high school that worked well. I would also have a random big pimple every now and then. However, recently I started getting acne on my body mainly on my back and chest. Also had a few big zits of my face that became large whiteheads (not attractive).
So I decided to go to a dermatologist and see any other treatment options. I was prescribed Tetracycline 500 mg twice a day, Retin A .25%, and Clindamycin gel for spot treatment. It is my 6th day on the Tetracycline and week two on the Retin A. I have noticed since on Tetracycline that my acne on my body is disappearing. YES! I was prescribed the antibiotic for a month, and I was hesitant to take it because of the whole resistance issue. The dermatologist said that I did not have a severe case, and using the antibiotic for a month will reduce the current bacteria in my body, and there after will just need a topical antibiotic.
I have noticed that my skin seems a little drier since taking the antibiotic and that I have occasional heartburn. I am able to control the heartburn by watching my diet and drinking a lot of water. I hear people talking about stopping the antibiotics and then have worse breakouts. Kinda worried about this...but I am pleased with the clearing of my body acne.
I have been using the Retin A every other night, and if I notice I am more dry I will switch to every third night. I do not plan on using it every night, especially now that the winter is nearing. I do know that the current breakout that I had is pimples that have been there for a while under the skin. So I look forward to continual use to clear up my skin. The only draw back that I dislike about my treatment is the need to be cautious of my sun exposure. I have been using sunblock for two years daily, so that did not bother me. I did change my sunblock from Murad 30 spf, to Neutrogena 85 SPF.
My questions are:
Are antibiotics always needed once a person starts using the for treatment? Has anybody used them for a month or a couple of month and never needed them again?
Also, is Retin-A needed to be used forever?
I am thankful I found this website! Good Luck All!

i knw its not good being on so many of these things, but my doc is trying to keep me going until my dermatology app tomorrow

i take 4 flucloxacillins and 3 amoxicillins a day, and on the third day i noticed a significant improvement, my skin is really startingto calm down, my worst cheek has flattened right down and its all just red marks really. but this breakout hasleft me living in fear of my skin doing it again, its taken almost 4 months to clear up!
im also going dairy free for a month to see if it makesany difference. i was reading about all the hormones and things in milk that can upset things.

Hey guys! I'm Karen, 23 years old, from Connecticut.
Here's the scoop:
About a year ago (November/2007) my acne went completely out of control. Before that, I had the occasional zit - here and there - but nothing I ever worried about. But then, out of nowhere, my face bursted with comedonal acne. It felt - and looked - like sandpaper.
- November 2007: I decided to try the Clean and Clear kit. Two months later: no improvement. A friend recommended the Philosophy Acne kit... so I decided to give it a shot. Used that for a couple of months, but my face got progressively worst.
- April 2008: I decided I had to visit a dermatologist. She told me I had mild acne and prescribed me Differin gel 0.1% (PM) and Benzaclin (AM). After the first two weeks I saw an improvement. Went to Maine on vacation. I was soooo happy!! But at the beginning of week 3 I had the IB. It was hell. For the following three weeks my life was miserable. But fortunately by the 2-month mark my face started to recover. For the next 4 months my face was completely clear.
- November 2008: I had a huge breakout. All over my face. Went to my derm, who prescribed me with Retin-a Micro 0.1% and Evoclin. By the end of December, Retin-a Micro had completely destroyed my face. My face was all broken out in a rash! Literally, my acne went from mild to severe in two months.
- January 2009: Derm prescribed a topical steroid, Locoid Lipocream 2x day (2 weeks) to calm down my face. And Minocycline 100mg 2x day. The Locoid helped with the redness, but didn't do anything for the acne at all.
The past month and a half has been living hell for me. I feel sooo bad. I honestly have never felt this bad in my life. Acne has taken control of my life... I don't go out with my friends anymore - in fact I avoid them at all cost. I hate to have to go to work... and know people are staring at my face - so I call out of work as much as possible. I'm so depressed right now!
I hope that with the support of everyone here I'll be able to cope with this, and hopefully, in a few months, this nightmare will finally be over.
UPDATE:
- Added Differin 0.1% cream (PM) to my regimen. (Since 02/19/2009)
