I've just started taking doxycycline. It's been two weeks already. Well, let me give you a brief history of my acne.
I've had mild acne ever since i was 12. It was still within control, maybe one or two small pimples around my nose and chin area every week. It was quite frustrating already. All my friends had perfectly flawless skin and some of them even labelled me "pimple face", which is quite devastating...
When i hit 14 (around august period), my acne became pretty bad. It was like an outbreak. I started having cystic acne. Usually my affected areas are my forehead, nose, chin. It seemed like my acne had spread to my cheek area. I started taking herbal pills.. it did help and my acne condition improved but only after taking for two months. The effect lasted for only one month or so.. after that my acne started resurfacing.
Now i'm 15. In the beginning of the year, my acne was the worse. (around march period) There were many red bumps around my cheek area and many small (not red) lumps on my forehead. I started going for facials in june. The facials did help to clear the cystic acne... but there were still many small pimples/lumps all clustered together at the side of my cheek and a lot of them at my jaw area. (both sides of face sadly

)
The facials helped to clear acne on my forehead and nose area. Now it's pretty much cleared just that there are a few blackheads and whiteheads. However, there are still many small lumps so i went to see a doctor two weeks back.
He prescribed me doxycycline and differin to apply on my face every night. He said that i had moderately severe acne. (grade 4-5)
So i'm on my second week of doxycycline ( I take 100mg, twice daily) and differin but not much improvement yet.

The first week of doxycycline- my acne remained pretty much the same.. The number of outbreaks and everything..
At around day five, i noticed that at my jaw area had many new pimples and most of them had pus..

I did not dare to press them as it would be really painful...
At around day seven, i realised that my skin is flaking (around jaw area) and it the flaking condition has continued to persist even until now..

My skin is also very raw around my jaw area (most affected area now) and there is a huge red patch there.
Some people said it takes about two to three weeks to see minimal effects of doxycycline.. but i'm really scared because i'm into my third week of doxycycline and my condition has not improved. Still very lumpy and i think it has become a lot more redish around my jaw area.
Skin feels very dry too after applying make up ( I use clinque) and it is very flakey around my jaw area and around my nose area.
Just hoping that next week, i would be able to see slight improvement so that i'll be assured that the doxycycline is working.
Christmas is coming and i don't want acne! >:[ I wonder why all my friends don't have acne and even if they do.. they only have one small pimple in like a few months?
Will update about my third week into doxycycline soon. As for now, just a brief description on the condition of my face...
Forehead and nose is completely cleared from facials. Cheek area is starting to clear up ( i noticed) but only a little bit... Jawline is very bad.. very red and lots of pus. many small pimples all clustered together. from far it looks like a huge birthmark (both sides of face) Chin area is starting to clear up too. Before that, lots of cystic acne.. not only one left.. which is a good thing.. hope none will resurface.
Very troubled about cheek are+ jawline though. Complexion there is super uneven. Oh well.
Need some encouragement/ success stories anyone? Advise?

Hey guys. As promised, I will be recording a log of my treatment. It consists of
100MG Minocycline and
BenzaClin 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. If you dont already know, both are considered antibiotics, with Minocycline taken in pill form to kill the p.acnes bacteria from the inside, and the Benzoyl Peroxide gel applied on the face to dry the skin and kill external bacteria. I'll try to update every few days, with pictures every 1-2 weeks. Wish me luck.
DAY ONE: Acne is mainly on sides of face and forehead. I also have mild acne on my chest, shoulders, and back, but those arent as important as my face in my opinion.
-FOREHEAD:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/5714/s4021480fq4.jpg -SIDE OF FACE:
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/5163/s4021482nw7.jpgOh...and sorry I look like I'm high lol. It was past midnight and I was exhausted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY THREE: Sides of face are slowing fading away. My forehead has improved somewhat as well. My chin had a miniature whitehead, but I popped it. Also, where my chin hair is growing in, I Had a large pimple. It wasn't that much inflamed but it was still large. I popped it as well. I know popping isnt the best for you, but oh well. And one more thing: The sides of my nose are incredibly dry. This is due to the BP 5%. I'll have to stop applying it on there and use moisturizer instead.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY FIVE: I can already notice a difference, especially in my forehead. I havent had any new pimples. My face is as dry as a desert though! Its even peeling. Looks like I will have to apply moisturizer at night now. Oh well. Pics will be posted in a few days.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY TWELVE: Sorry I havent posted in a week. Been busy. I'm pretty stressed out, and I've had a couple of minor pimples, but I just apply the BP and watch as they go away with a day or so. A lot of redness and marks have continued to fade on my sides. I Have a pimple on my neck, but I'm sure it will go away. Below are some pics people!
FACE:

http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/889/s4021503hu0.jpg----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY NINETEEN: Looks like its gotten a little worse. I have a small patch of whiteheads on my forehead and this pimple on my nose that hurts. One of the best things about this medication though is that these things normally go away within a day or less.

Pics will be updated in a few days.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY THIRTY: My skin is a bit dry. I had a couple whiteheads on my forehead, but nothing serious. My sides are clearing up. I have been informed that you need to wait 2 hours before or after eating to take this. This might be why it hasnt shown a huge difference. I've got an inflamed area on my lower mouth. Hopefully it will subside soon.
FACE:

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7871/s4021512ta9.jpg-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY THIRTY TWO: Wow. I looked at my chin today and saw that my comedonal acne had greatly diminished. I'm amazed. The swelling on my chin has went down, and it looks a bit better. I hope that my acne will be gone in 2-3 months. Yay. Oh and sorry my hair is all "puffy", I ran out of hair gel...lol.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/8808/s4021513hu6.jpghttp://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6038/s4021514ee3.jpghttp://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6619/s4021515be3.jpg-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY THIRTY FIVE (estimated, I lost track): Crap crap crap crap crap. I ran out Benzaclin, and being the idiot I am, used Dan's BP for 3-4 days. Big mistake. I broke out with several (minor) pimples. They're not that bad, but its still not the best. Anyways, I got some more Benzaclin today and used it. Hopefully it will get rid of those.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY FOURTY ONE: Skin is looking better. The only real pimple is on the area of the bone connecting your neck and face. I quickly popped it and applied the Benzaclin. This antibiotic combination is really something. I still have have some previous marks lingering, but they are slowly fading (The BP slows fading I Think). Hopefully in a couple more months my acne will be gone. =)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY FIFTY TWO: Skin is lookin nice. Very nice. Below is a pic of my face.
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/8729/s4021524kk9.jpg--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY SEVENTY THREE: Ouch. For a few days, I missed morning dose and did double dose those nights. Bad mistake apparently. I am broke out across my chest, my shoulders, back, and neck. Tiny pimples. Ones that wont even pop. Any tips on getting these suckers gone? (Oh, but my face is still clear besides a miniature whitehead)

I just started using Clindagel a week ago. How long till I should see a big difference? My chin pimples are not quiet as big but still look bad. They don't itch as much but still feel itchy sometimes. The first 3-5 days I used Clindagel, my skin was really itchy. I also started using an oral antibotic-adoxa.

I started taking Minocycline, 100mg, twice a day, about 10 days ago. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar side effect. I noticed 5 days ago that it seemed like my uvula (the hangy thing in the back of your throat) felt like it was closer to my tongue. I had some nasal drainage yesterday and it was very challenging to swallow. I don't know if this is an allergic reaction to the medication, just a side effect, or hay fever. I took some allergy meds and the nasal drainage went away but the heaviness of my uvula didn't. I haven't called my dermatologist yet, b/c I wanted to give my body some time to adjust to the new antibiotic. Any suggestions?

Starting acne status:Mild to almost moderateAge:21History:Benzoyl Peroxide 5% and 10% (3 month)
Differin (3 month)
Tretinoin 0.05% (7 month)
Vitamin B5 (6 month)
Zinc (2 month)^The only thing that improved my skin was Tretinoin, but it could just as well been the Vitamin B5 since I was using it the same time, but it never cured it completely.
Today I am pleased to try something completely new, and by new I mean something that is not a cream but a pill. I am not sure of what to expect, if it was accutane I would know better of what to expect and how well it works.
I have stopped using my cleanser and moisturizer and going out "clean" by just using water in the morning and night. I will use moisturizer if I really need to. I will take Tetralysal twice a day, starting tonight!

Thank you so much for taking time to read this.
I was on minocycline 100mg for 5 months. Then because it was working i went down to 50mg every day, and then 50 mg every second day. I am now breaking out like crazy and i dont know why!! Ive upped my dose back up to 100mg a day..and ive been on that amount for over a week now. Is it possible to become resistant to antibiotics?? I have not have a breakout like this the whole time ive been on antibiotics (8 months).
Has this happened to anyone else?? What do you suggest i do? switch to another antibiotic?
Thanks again

New here the the community. My acne story...never had pimples until my mid 20s when I went off of birth control because of migraines. Controled the mild breakouts with proactive for 7 years. In 2005 I had my twin boys and then the acne got way worse. I think it was a combination of stress and breastfeeding 2 babies for 17 months. Been using obagi nu-derm for about a year now with good results in skin tone, texture, and color. But I still get pimples frequently deep cystic ones. Over the past 6 months they are mainly on my lower cheeks and chin which is an area very hard to hide. I went to a dermatologist this week and they started me on minocycline and added azelaic acid to my regimen. I actually think I am seeing improvements already...maybe just being hopefull.

Hello, I am new to acne.org. I am a 31-year-old woman who has always struggled with whiteheads (that usually become inflamed cysts around the time of my monthly cycle) on my chin and around my mouth. For the past month, however, my chin has erupted into several whiteheads (or maybe milia?) and cysts. During the flareup, I was under a lot of stress (the acne did not help). I had also radically changed my diet to eat healthier and had lost a lot of weight. I also started taking a multivitamin over a month ago with iodine in it, as well as eating protein bars with iodine in it. Maybe that didn't help the issue? I stopped using both of these.
Anyway, I went to a derm a little over a week ago, because my acne has made me depressed, lowered my self-esteem, and put a strain on my social life. She prescribed 50 mg of doxy twice a day. In the A.M., I wash with Cetaphil cleanser, apply a pea-size amount of benzaclin, moisturize with Cetaphil, and apply oil-free Clinique makeup. In the P.M., I wash with Cetaphil and apply a pea-size amount of retin-A micro every other night (until my face can tolerate the medicine...then maybe every night). I have been experiencing some dryness, flakiness, and slight peeling (I may have overdone it with the benzaclin on the chin).
Can anyone tell me if they were on a similar regime and had success? Or tell me what to expect? Or give me tips for not allowing acne to take over my life? Thanks in advance. I appreciate any feedback...

I've only been taking it for a week and have seen improvement but will it actually get rid of my acne? Advice please?

Ok today I went to my GP because I was so fed up with my acne. Been battling it for about 3 years. About a year ago it went while using Dan's regimen and I was clear now its come back but i'm still on Dan's regimen. My GP prescribed lymecycline for me. I have just taken one tonight and i'm meant to take one a day. Its always a problem for me to take pills because I can't swallow them easily never have been able to swallow them. But I managed to get one down tonight. I'm gonna still be doing Dan's regimen every morning and use an AHA cream at night.
Will keep you updated on how it goes.

Hi, thanks for reading this. I need help!
I was prescribed minocycline twice a day about a month ago. Unfortunately I ran out yesterday (Friday) and won't be able to get more until Monday. That means two days of missed antibiotics (4 doses).
Am I going to break out bad from this? Or do you think I'll be ok even with the missed doses. I'm also on retin-a, and the combination has cleared me up beautifully. However, I've only been clear for about a week and I really don't want to get another huge breakout.
Please respond! I'm super nervous.

I am a 27 year old male that would have occasional break outs through my life that were easily treatable, and used Murad Acne program since high school that worked well. I would also have a random big pimple every now and then. However, recently I started getting acne on my body mainly on my back and chest. Also had a few big zits of my face that became large whiteheads (not attractive).
So I decided to go to a dermatologist and see any other treatment options. I was prescribed Tetracycline 500 mg twice a day, Retin A .25%, and Clindamycin gel for spot treatment. It is my 6th day on the Tetracycline and week two on the Retin A. I have noticed since on Tetracycline that my acne on my body is disappearing. YES! I was prescribed the antibiotic for a month, and I was hesitant to take it because of the whole resistance issue. The dermatologist said that I did not have a severe case, and using the antibiotic for a month will reduce the current bacteria in my body, and there after will just need a topical antibiotic.
I have noticed that my skin seems a little drier since taking the antibiotic and that I have occasional heartburn. I am able to control the heartburn by watching my diet and drinking a lot of water. I hear people talking about stopping the antibiotics and then have worse breakouts. Kinda worried about this...but I am pleased with the clearing of my body acne.
I have been using the Retin A every other night, and if I notice I am more dry I will switch to every third night. I do not plan on using it every night, especially now that the winter is nearing. I do know that the current breakout that I had is pimples that have been there for a while under the skin. So I look forward to continual use to clear up my skin. The only draw back that I dislike about my treatment is the need to be cautious of my sun exposure. I have been using sunblock for two years daily, so that did not bother me. I did change my sunblock from Murad 30 spf, to Neutrogena 85 SPF.
My questions are:
Are antibiotics always needed once a person starts using the for treatment? Has anybody used them for a month or a couple of month and never needed them again?
Also, is Retin-A needed to be used forever?
I am thankful I found this website! Good Luck All!

I could write pages about my battles, but I'll save you all that. I'm a 26 year old female. Struggled with acne since I was a teenager. Started getting cysts about the age of 22. I've been a acne.org lurker for years, on and off. I've struggled with what I think is hormonal acne. Some years are better than others. This year has been an off year. I used to get one cyst per month along with my non-inflamed acne. So far this month I have four.

The random pimples do not bother me in the slightest. There's nothing more damaging to your self-confidence than having nickle-sized lumps on your face. The cysts have became so frequent that I've starting getting scars in the last year.
So, I've started on my Minocycline journey. I know it isn't the best option. But right now, it's the only one I've got. I've taken it before, for a short period of time, with results. I just started a week ago. I'm taking 100 mg twice a day. When I started last week, I had a cluster of three "smaller" cysts on my chin. And one lone cyst on my nose.
Today the cyst on my nose has went down and not caused too much ruckus. But, the three on my chin, apparently, are not intimidated by the Mino. I had a couple non-inflamed spots appear in the last couple days. I'm thinking I may try and use an epsom salt soak on my chin area. Has anyone tried the epsom salt? I've heard it helps draw the cyst to a head.

I was 11 when i gOt my first huge zit on the center of my nOSE!! and that's where it all started.. blackheads.. whiteheads.. HUGE PIMPLEs all over my face!! that's where it all began.. i've spent 7 years crying myself to sleep, being bullied by everyone, including my relatives, being stared at as if i totally grossed people out. my life was horrible with acne.. I've tried everything:
-nivea products- made my face even more oily
-Mena- didn't do anything
-renow D- gave me even more blackheads
-chinese acne creams- made my face red
-CETaphil- created tons of little bumps on my face
-FORever flawless acne kit- gave me huge pimples on my cheeks
-PROACTIVE SOLUTION- REGRETTED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!! didn't JUST wipe out my wallet.. but gave me even mOre problems like over drying and itching.. totally hated it..
-Tea tree OIL kit from the BOdy Shop- it worked.. kinda.. it was just ok... but didnt really help prevent my pimples from coming back..but LOve the smell
-papaya soap- helped alot! but after a few weeks it all came back..
-kojic acid soap- dried out my skin.. make it red and itchy..
-pond's facial wash- hated it..!!!
-pond's cream- worked for a while..pimple came back after a month..
-Panoxyl- dried out my face too much.. didn't work..
BUT i did FINALLY find something that worked 3 days after using it..
DALACIN C (CLINDAMYCIN) (CLEONCIN) capsuls SAVED MY LIFE..
All u have to do is empty the capsul in one of your favorite toners/cleansers. a cleanser that works for you of course. in 3 days i saw the difference.. It actually prevents new pimples from forming and it dries out present one's.. 1 300mg capsul will do, but after getting used to it, you'll probably need 2, depending how severe your acne is.. you guys may not believe me.. but i'm someone that really suffered as in to death, trying to figure out ways to cure my acne.. i started using this right after i stopped using proactive.. it really works. for oily skin types, u don't need to use any moisturizer at all.. just simply wash your face.. and tone.. this is one of the best solutions most filipinos use.. if u don't see any improvment within 1 week, u can gladly stop it.. but i doubt it..
Clindamycin are good for acne since they attack the bacteria supposedly causing its inflammation ( Propionebacterium acnes). I've personally used it and I was happy with the results. I did not take them orally as they are more effective if you use them on your face directly.Use as much as you want. This way, you won't have to deal with the side effects, you concentrate on the face, you save a lot more money this way, you get better results, and you won't make your body immuned to antibiotics.People and situations are different. For me, it took me two weeks to see significant results. And I had severe acne. I used the Eskinol mixed with Dalacin C as much as I could. There was a noticeable difference in three days. But my face was almost clear in two weeks.Taking Dalacin C everyday or more can be expensive. And there are side effects to be wary about. If you decide to take them by mouth, you will have to take them for two weeks maximum. For the frequency, you will have to ask a doctor. It depends on your body type and medical history.
i use this with ESKINOL derma C cleanser.. 2 times a day..works just perfect.. for severe acne, it may take some time.. bout 2-3 weeks.it may dry out faces for some.. but all u need is a moisturizer that suites u.. and TADAAAA!! acne free.. Its worth a try.. all u need to do is add it to a toner/cleanser u usually use.. may start out with 2 capsuls if severe!
its COmpletely SAFE..
U can buy this at any drug store.. guys.. this may look simple.. but you'll totally THANK me for the results. try this and you'll have no problem with pimples. Plus! you get to have a smoother face.. it's also good for preventing BLACKHEADS....
All u have to do is:
go to a drugstore and buy Dalacin C 300mg.. it's an antibiotic in capsule form..
also buy an astringent about 70-80ml... any brand will do.. use the most famous brand you think you can afford.. astringents with 100-200 ml, u shud use 2 capsuls..
open the capsule and put it all the powder in the bottle of the astringent...
shake it well..and shake before everytime using it
apply this after you wash your face.. 2 times for me..
after a week, your skin will feel soft and your face will start to clear..
if your skin is dry, you can add a capsule or two of vitamin E (400mg capsule) this will help moisturize your skin..
and whenever you have a zit, just put some of this solution on a cotton ball and soak your pimple with it..
your acne will disappear in 2 days or less..
GOOD LUCK!

Hey! I guess I should start with some history!
So I've suffered from mild-moderate acne since Grade 7 to Grade 10. For Grade 11, I was, for the most part, clear! All I can say is that I thought I was totally free from this curse! But sadly, no. Only a WEEK before I started Grade 12, I started to break out. I tried gentle cleansers (Since I was clear before, I didn't think I needed something strong) like baby soaps, Cetaphil, etc. But it just got much worse. I got acne ALL over my forehead and cheeks and started to break out on my chin where I never ever broke out before. There were inflammed and I would wake up with my face covered in whiteheads. There were some days where it was so bad that I just didn't leave the house. So finally, after a month, I had moderate-severe acne. I went to see my doctor and this is what I got:
50mg of Minocycline per day
Clindoxyl Gel in the Morning
Differin Gel in the Evening
Day 1
Okay, so first day! I started last night, I washed my face with Johnson's Head-to-Toe (It's for babies, but it has the best reviews for a cleanser!) and applied the Differin Gel. I took Micocycline with 700ml of water. This morning, the whiteheads I have weren't as noticeable as they usually are, so that's a godsend.
I'm really interested to see if the Minocycline will work. When I read about it on the forums, people got 50mg prescriptions to take twice daily... I feel safe from the serious side effects, but the dosage is low so I'm wondering if it'll still work. I've taken the two topical gels before in the same order and that's what cleared me up before. But my acne wasn't as bad back then.
So I just got home (7:30pm) and I'm seeing all the whiteheads again. Great. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. Hopefully better. I'm sure I need to get a stronger wash, because when I use this baby cleanser, I do find that I become oily again as the day progresses. I asked my doctor about another cleanser before, but I didn't think I'd need a strong one. But appearantly, it'd work better, so I'm going to buy Benzac like she recommended. This probably won't be for awhile though... So... We'll have to see how it goes without it.

So I started this perscription a week ago or at least it will be tomorrow.
Once daily 100mg Minocycline
Apply Sodium Sulfacetamide and Sulfur at night only
My dermatologist said things should get better in about a month or 2.
The right side of my face seems to be doing better its a slow process but its not
as inflammed as it us to be.
The left side had this one huge cyst I guess and its still there it doesnt seemed affected by the medications at all so far. The little one next to it went down and now today a new one came
.
My chin is really broken out now and my forehead which was almost clear now it hurts.
My mom and grandma said that sides of the body act differently then others so thats why one side seems clearer than the other. School starts next week and I really want things to be better
So anyone have any luck with these medications??

I went to the my derm. today. I was on doxycyline for 8 months.... the first 5-6 months it worked perfect! I was so happy to have all my acne completely gone. But the last 3 months my face went back to square one.
So she prescribed me SOLODYN (MINOCYCLINE).
Does anyone else take it??? Does it work??? What do you think about this medicine?
I have mild-moderate acne right now. Will this stuff work for me????
Please let me know what you think.
Thank you
Karyn

With any antibiotic, it's advised not to mix the treatment with the consumption of alcohol. Im on this stuff for a few months and plan to atleast have a few heavy drinking session in the mean time. Has any one experienced bad side affects of doing this or does any one have any facts about drinking while on doxy.
Much appreciated.

I have recently received Doxycycline 100mg with Benzoyl Peroxide 5% gel and I plan on using it with a nice moisturizer I've been using.
I have never taken antibiotics before, but I have taken vitamin supplements and whatnots to no avail before. I'm somewhat worried about this regimen because of the amount of bad experiences I've already read here.
I want to keep this log to make sure I keep track of how my progress is and also to help anyone else that wants information about doxycycline.
Some history about me: I'm 22 years old. I've had acne since I was about maybe 12 or 13. I've had acne for so long, I cannot remember what it's like to not have clear skin.
I've tried so many different kinds of home remedies my mom suggested I do, but none of fully worked. About 3 or 4 years ago, I made myself not pick or even touch my face because I realized it was making it a whole lot worse. That decision has probably been the best thing I've done for my skin.
The current condition of my skin is redness and breakouts on the area under my eyes. The biggest problem area is around my mouth. I still regularly get acne around that area. My nose has a ton of clogged pores on my nose which come back regularly. That has caused the orange peel looking texture and that saddens me because that's the kind of skin I read is hard to recover from.
LOG:April 26: First day! (I'll try and put up pictures later)
April 27: Felt a little sick after I took a pill in the morning. Took more water to help ease the slight nausea.
April 28: I'm feeling sinus pressure, but I'm not sure if it's because of the pills. The BP is working on my current acne rather well.
April 29-May 9: I've been reluctant to update because I believe it needs time to take awhile before I should report anything. The BP is still working rather well and the redness I've had is very slightly getting better. Whiteheads have been reduced noticably. I've been taking pictures of my face on occasion, I hope I post them up when I gather the confidence.

I've had acne for four years (from the age of 12 till 16) and I've tried just about every topical treatment (prescription and over the counter) there is. Most didn't work and the ones that did would soon stop working after my skin would become immune to them.
I was then prescribed doxycycline. It was like a miracle cure for me, my skin was flawless with not the slightest sign that I had ever had acne before. For once I thought that my acne was gone, and it wasn't coming back. After a year on doxycycline my acne slowly returned, and I was reminded of my life with acne and that the vicious cycle definitely hadn't come to an end.
It's been a month since then, and coming to a devastating realisation that I had become immune to the doxycycline, I went back to my doctor, hopefully, for another miracle cure. I’ve been prescribed minocycline and it’s been almost 2 weeks. My skin hasn’t improved at all. (On the contrary, it is probably worse). This is quite worrying because when I started taking doxy, I saw results immediately. Perhaps my doxycycline immunity is not exclusive to doxy, but antibiotics as a whole. If anybody knows anything on this subject, I’d love to hear your two cents?

I know this isnt a long-track treatment such as accutane. But since accutane was for people who had already tried anti-biotics, i'm doing that now. I was a bit disapointed i could find a log of tetracyclin so i could see the progress and thins you go through.
Day 1Picked up my prescription today. 250mg once a day (Alphapharm).
I'm starting the treatment on a day on my "recovery" part of my acne breakouts so it's nearly gone. However i hope that this will stop my breakouts and remove the "generic" acne i have always. The pills look funny btw, a whiteish grass green color.
Havnt felt any side effects yet of course. Had lasagna

Acne atm is limited to one active cyst on the right eyebrow and redness from 3-4 recovering cysts on left cheek, redness on the bottom of the cheek and small cyst behind right ear, as well as redness forhead left side.

Alright well, this isnt my first day on Doxy and Retin-A. It's my 1st week on Retin-A and my 3rd day on Doxy. I've been on Minocycline for one month before and when I went to my follow-up my doctor prescribed me the Doxy. My acne condition i'd say is moderate-severe. I've got a couple pimples on my forehead and a lot of little bumps that arent really red, theyre just bumps coming out of my skin. My right cheek is pretty much clear, just one pimple on my jaw. My left cheek is the problem right now, I've got 2 nodules I think they are, one next to my mouth, and one next to my nose. Both of them seem to be dying down and they dont hurt as much anymore. I've also got 1 pimple on my jawline on that cheek also. And the biggest blemish I have right now is next to my left brow which is another nodule, just big in width and red. It's also dying down and doesnt hurt as much. My problem is, I had a huge breakout of cystic acne over the winter and I had cysts all over my cheeks, huge and small white heads starting coming out top of some of the cysts and I just had a whole mess of white heads on my chin. I was a picker, popper, wutever u wanna call it. So I've got one scar next to my nose from a cyst and alot of red/brown marks.
All in all, I think the Retin-A is taking care of some of the nodules I have and some of the left overs from my cystic acne. My doc says I'm getting off oral antibiotics after I finish my bottle of Doxy and we're gonna switch over to topical antibiotics. But depending on how my acne is when I'm done with the Doxy is gonna depend on whether I use topicals or start Dans Regimen.
So alright, there's my background about my acne. And my regimen is on my sig of course.
I'll start documenting changes, issues, all that good stuff tomorrow.
Till then goodnight!
Sleep tight folks!
For those in Illinois, get them shovels ready ;]

I have mild acne, it comes, goes, and it's been driving me crazy, it's been worse then ever the past 2 years of having it. I'm 16, been on 2 anti-biotics, I'll clear up, then breakout again. So today my doctor recommended we try Accutain.
I've read a LOT of the reviews on this website on Accutain. When my doctor started talking about it, I got pretty happy. As soon as I starting reading the reviews I got discouraged in about 50 seconds. I've never had any medical conditions and I play baseball year-round. I have NO friggin idea what I should do. My mom just told me it's all up to me, she's willing to take me for the blood tests, but is it worth it?

This is my first post, so I'm going to give a short summary about how acne has affected me. I am a 15-year-old male who is a sophomore in high school. I have always been short for my age (ain't late puberty a bitch) and I still am kind of short, but I'm catching up. Near the beginning of freshman year, I must have developed acne. I know for sure that I never had it before this, and even in my freshman photo I still have clear skin. Since then, I have dealt with increasingly bad acne, that has been mild-to-moderate. However, this summer, my acne got much worse, with new pimples coming up constantly. I would get large, inflamed zits on my chin, upper lip, cheeks, temples, forehead, and jaw. The red marks from these would last days, weeks, and even months.
On August 26th, I went to a doctor (for the first time) to see what I could do about my acne. Before, I had used many different medications:
- ZoDerm (8.5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser, Rx Only)
- Clenia (Sulfur Emollient, Rx Only)
- Acne-Free 3-Step System (Generic ProActiv)
- Stridex Pads (1.0% Salicylic Acid Pads)
- Acne-Free Power Pimple Peel (Salicylic Acid Exfoliator)
- NoxZema (Camphor/Phenol Cleanser)
- Clearasil Ultra (2.0% Salicylic Acid)
- OXY Balance (10% Benzoyl Peroxide Spot Treatment)
- Acne-Free Terminator (2.0% Salycylic Acid Spot Treatment)
- Redken For Men pH-Balancing Cleanser
- Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild (Mild Facial Cleanser)
As you can see, I tried many OTC products as well as a few Rx treatments, but nothing worked. I definitely believe a lack of consistency was key in my failure. For everyone starting an acne regimen out there, keep to it for weeks and weeks, and eventually you will see results.
So I went to the doctor and was prescribed BenzaClin, a combo of 1.5% Benzoyl Peroxide and a topic antibiotic.
It's been 11 days since I started using BenzaClin, and WOW!, what a difference it has made. My skin has become much clearer. I still get active pimples, but they come to a head quickly and heal quickly after that. They don't leave behind red marks like previous acne has, which would linger on my face for weeks at a time. The red marks I had have faded greatly, before my cheeks were covered with horrendous splotches, now only a slight discoloration is visibly. Currently I am down to only one active pimple on my left cheek, and a dark, healing spot near my temple (which is the worst place for acne, right in the hairline, so that you can see it but can't really treat it. My skin, which has fluctuated over the last week and a half, seems to be continuing to get better and better. The jar of BenzaClin says that full results are seen in "2-10 weeks" (very specific, no?), and I am pleased to say that when my first two weeks are done, my clean will continue to look the best it has in about a year. Over time, my red marks will face completely, and I will have the clear, beautiful skin that I've been obsessed with for a year.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, LEAVE A REPLY TO THIS POST. EVEN IF IT'S A FEW WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT, IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE UPDATING MY PROGRESS AND CONVERSING WITH OTHER MEMBERS ABOUT ACNE PROBLEMS, THEIRS OR MINE. THANK YOU.

i've been on minocycline since may, and it has helped my acne a lot. i haven't seen any cysts (before that's all i used to get), but i had a lot of acne scars (hyperpigmentation) left over. so my dermatologist prescribed me tri luma.
i put on tri luma friday night, and the next morning my face was fine. it hadn't seemed to change. but on saturday night, i put way too much tri luma because i accidentally got too much out of the tube. my dermatologist told me to apply a very thin layer of the cream on my face, but i assumed that adding a new more layers wouldn't hurt.
well, i woke up sunday morning and my face had swollen up so much! everywhere that i had applied too much tri luma was red and peeling. the peeling didn't hurt (actually it seems that some of my scars have disappeared), but my face was so swollen...
and today (monday morning) my face is still swollen and red! i looked at the description of tri luma that came with the tube, and it said to seek medical attention if swelling does occur (this might be an allergic reaction). but i think that my reaction might be the result of just putting on way too much cream. ugh, i don't know what to do.
i really hope this swelling and redness goes away soon. i don't want to go back to the dermatologist's office for this. :\ and i especially do not want to discontinue my use of tri luma because my dermatologist made it seem as if it was some type of miracle drug that would clear away my scars. and it was expensive (actually, my insurance covered most of it, so it wasn't expensive, but still).
i go back to school next week, and i really don't want to look like i have a tomato for a head!

So I was just brushing my teeth and noticed that the back of my tongue is covered in pretty big lumps.
i read on google that bumps can sometimes be caused by antibiotics and i was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if it went away.
