I noticed that some area of my face has a slight orange/brownish tint to it. I've been doing the regimen for two weeks+ now. On the first week bp made my skin slightly itchy and dry, but I've applied a lot of moisturizer at night which helped tremendously. Now I'm noticing that certain parts of my face look darker, almost like I got a tan.
For anyone wondering I'm using these products: Cetaphil : Moisturizer/Cleanser Clindoxyl: I'm only applying this at night and using a pea sized amount. The itchiness and dryness went away after the second week on the regimen. However, my skin still looks somewhat red whenever I apply Cetaphil. Out of the couple of OTC bp's I've tried, I found this one to be much more agreeable with my skin. I only apply bp once a day since my skin is on the sensitive side. I only have one pimple right now, but it's healing very quickly. Apart from the redness, discoloration and a few lingering red marks, my face looks totally clear. I really don't understand what's causing this discoloration. The minor side effects that everyone seemed to experience on the first week of the regimen went away for me after the second week. Except for the annoying redness that I always get when I apply my moisturizer. The redness goes away after 2 hours so it's not that big of a problem. I'm more annoyed with the tannish/orange look I have on certain area of my face. I only had minimal sun exposure from the day I started the regimen to today so that can't be the reason. And even so, I always made sure to put sunscreen on whenever I go outside.

I took accutane 3 years ago and my acne is slowly coming back, although not as severe as before. I was hoping to do another course of accutane , but my derm was opposed to the idea. He said my acne is quite mild/moderate and a second course will not make my skin any better. Instead he prescribed me Duac and told me to use it once a day in the evening.
Is it okay if I use Duac in place of regular bp whilst on the regimen? From what I read, Duac isn't that much different from bp's you can buy OTC. On the pamphlet it says it contain 1% Clindamycin Phosphate and 5% Benzoyl peroxide. Obviously, I'm not going to apply the recommended amount that Dan suggest since it's slightly stronger than regular bp's. Anyway, I've been thinking of giving this at least 3-4 months before considering changing to another. These are the products I'll be using with the regimen: AM: Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash Complex 15 Therapeutic Moisturizing Lotion PM: Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash Duac Complex 15 Therapeutic Moisturizing Lotion Will these be enough or should I consider adding more products? Mine is relatively simple compared to everyone else. And one more question: Is it normal to experience slight itching/redness on Duac? I've caked on my nivea cream last night (temporarily using nivea until I buy complex 15 lotion later today) and when I awoke this morning my skin felt itchy.

I was prescribed Accutane 3 years ago by my derm who also treated my brother for his persistent acne. She put me on a 7 month course, but I ended up only doing 5 months. This was partly due to my blood test results. Irregular blood work became the new norm for me so my derm had to take me off accutane several times. To say the least, my course was very inconsistent, and I felt that I didn't get the full benefit from taking it. My derm told me she can put back on accutane whenever my acne comes back. But due to financial troubles, I never requested to be put back on it. This happened 3 years ago when I was 16 years old.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm going to be seeing a new derm this Wednesday, and I'm slightly scared that he wont let me do a second course of Accutane. Right now I don't have a lot of active acne, but two weeks ago I experienced a horrible breakout that left a lot of scarring and hyperpigmentation. Every time I break out, it always leaves a scar. If it was still my old derm, I would feel more at ease requesting for another course of Accutane. Seeing as she was very open to the idea in the first place. I don't know anything about this new derm, except that he's male. I keep having this lingering feeling that he'll refuse to let me take another course of accutane and instead put me on antibiotics. Anyone have any suggestions on how I should approach this? |
