I recently heard about the benfits that B5 vitamin does for acne, but I was pretty scared away from the idea because you have to take like 20 pills a day which doesn't sound too much to me.
Anyways, my question- does anyone think they are or should be working on a new B5 pill, specifically designed for acne, like a 10g B5 pill which can be taken long term? I think this should be worked on because its like accutane without the many side affects.
anyone else with me?

Came across this. Looks interesting As per the other boards topics on niacin. Perhaps a way to combine zinc and niacin?
http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6979468/description.htmlThe present invention provides an improved method and composition for the treatment of acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, bullous pemphigoid and other inflammatory skin conditions. The invention relates to the oral administration of a composition comprising a large dose of nicotinamide delivered at levels very substantially in excess of normal dietary levels, the nicotinamide being delivered in immediate release form in combination with a dose of zinc provided in a sustained release form. This combination of immediate release nicotinamide and sustained release zinc provides a level of anti-inflammatory activity substantially exceeding that provided by combinations of immediate release forms of nicotinamide and zinc. The sustained release form of zinc also permits the unopposed absorption of orally administered tetracycline and its cogeners, which are frequently utilized as a part of the treatment regimens for acne vulgaris, acne rosacea and certain other inflammatory cutaneous disorders. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, a quantity of copper is included to avoid the copper deficiency that might otherwise occur due to the zinc supplementation. The composition may also include a quantity of folic acid, which is an essential nutrient in teenagers and women of child-bearing age.
A composition is prepared in tablet form, each tablet comprising 750 milligrams immediate release nicotinamide, 25 milligrams sustained release zinc oxide, and 500 micrograms immediate release folic acid. When administered orally twice daily, the tablets are found to be a highly effective treatment for acne vulgaris.

Hey Everyone
So I was just wondering if an increase of calories lead to acne...then drinking ice-cold water should combat that problem right...?
There is an article that says "If you adhere to the "eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day" nutritional recommendation. In 64 ounces of water, there are 1,892.72 grams. So to warm up all that water in the course of a day, your body burns 70,030 calories, or 70 Calories" (http://health.howstuffworks.com/question447.htm)
I definitely do NOT know if this is true or not I would just like your thoughts/experience(s) on this.
If someone could test this it would be great i.e. if you are currently not on any strict diets and you consume refined sugar... drink water several times a day including while you're eating and after and before....but don't drink too much water as it could be fatal and remember to go to the bathroom

I will test this in a couple of weeks when I have access to real food!

QUOTE
Recalcitrant acne vulgaris secondary to a dental abscess.
Boyd AS, King LE Jr.
Department of Medicine Dermatology, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
This case report describes a middle-aged man with acne that was recalcitrant to numerous medications, including three courses of isotretinoin. His condition cleared after an infected tooth was removed and recurred when another tooth became carious. Acne vulgaris is associated with several immunologic responses including the production of antibodies against Propionibacterium acnes, the gram-positive bacteria found in acne lesions. We believe that the presence of our patient's dental infections provoked a follicular inflammatory response resulting in his recalcitrant acne.
I have this dental abscess (gumboil) for 4 years, and it started around the same time my acne went beyond control. It's not painful so I ignored it. For 4 years.
I'm going to see a dentist to get the problem sorted. I'm on accutane right now though so I won't be able to conclude on the link mentioned in the journal. Perhaps there are more acne sufferers out there who happens to have chronic dental abscess?

Hi,
My name is Jeroen, 21 yrs old, from the Netherlands, and been suffering from acne for 6 years now. During this time, I've tried many different products and read a lot of different research about acne, and recently I'm becoming more and more convinced that acne can have two different causes, one hormonal and one metabolistic.
The hormonal variety is the one a lot of kids and young adults, including myself, suffer from between ages 15-25. Hormone levels are out of control/unbalanced, with acne as a result. Diane might help restore/balance hormone levels for girls/women, where men can try Zinc. Once 'puberty' ends, hormone levels restore itself and acne disappears. How long this takes differs from person to person.
In my opinion, the metabolistic variety is the main cause of adult acne. The body has a problem processing the fats that enter it, which shows itself via a high sebum production with acne as a result. Vitamins like Niacin could help in such cases.
Mind you, this is only a theory, and I haven't any proof for it except for my own experiences. Of all the products that are regularly prescribed by dermatologists that I have tried, such as BP/antibiotics/Accutane, only BP actually worked for a while. None of them worked in the long run, because they do not tackle the cause! Niacin didn't work for me either because, if my theory is correct, I suffer from 'hormonal' acne and not from 'metabolistic' acne. I am still to try Zinc, which I'm gonna do a.s.a.p. If OptiZinc does what people say it does, then it should rid me of my acne (if my theory is correct).
I'm aware that this is only a very crude theory, but please comment!

Dont answer me "its not real" or "its the age" -_-' its not true. Masturbation causes acne on me and a lot of other peoples. I have read Hundreds of topic and forums about this problem : after masturbation, pimples go out on skin after about 2 or 3 hours; if not masturbate, there are no pimples.
I have this problem too and i havent found the right cure after years to dermatologies and a lot of therapies. I am 20 and i have this problem since 11.
I know that it's not possible cure this problem, but i wanna know only why there is a problem like this in a lot of people ? what is the cause?
Sorry for bad english eusa_whistle.gif

So last night I was reading someone's post on here and they talked about a doctor that wrote a book on modern medicine and how "they" know what causes acne, but they choose to ignore the REAL cause so the doctors can have patients, the pharmaceutical companties can sell drugs, and they can keep you coming back! make sense right? if we had the cure for acne, there wouldnt be a need for the entire aisle of acne creams and washes at the store right?
Apparently there are some countries that WANT to help you (unlike the united states and europe). There is a lot of evidence that something called demodex mites are the cause of acne and rosacea. Most people have these mites in there skin and dont even know about it. I know that sounds scary, and almost insane, but it makes sense if you think about it! We know there are tiny living bacteria and dust mites living all around us, so maybe this doesnt sound so crazy. there is a simple test you can do to see if you have these mites (i havent done this yet). Its all explain on this website that sells creams from China to kill the mites (I'll post it at the bottom).
I've spent a good portion of my day researcing this theory and demodex mites are real! but most american websites choose not to blame the mites for causing acne and rosacea. they say "evidence is not conclusive that demodex mites are the cause of acne". why is this the first time ive ever heard of such a thing? Ive been batteling acne for most of my life and no one has ever suggested that mites were the cause!
Do you think the government is trying to keep this a secret so they can continue to sell us more over the counter CRAP that doesnt work? to keep the dermatologist in business? to continue to sell us some uneffective antibiotics? make your own decision... but i found all of this very intriguing!
there is all the information you need about these mites on:
http://www.demodexsolutions.com/they tell you how to test for mites, and also sell a cream to kill them. i havent bought it, but it all makes a lot of sense. there is other research out there to support the claims made on this website.
let me know what you guys think! dont yell at me if you disagree... i didnt make this up, im only sharing what i have found.

How come some people have really bad acne on their face but never get a single spot on their chest and back whilst others get it in a combination of places?

I've been wondering some time ago about inheriting acne. Let's say, if I have inherited acne (from mom's side, father was totally clear) and i will have children with girl that shows no history of acne in her family (and so she's also clear), will my children have acne? Or is it a game of chance, like getting good or bad genes? I know that "acne gene" is autosomal, but is it possible that my children (male/female) will be totally clear?
Just wondering. Have any ideas?
