I used to have oily skin but due to a variety of things it's actually normal now. I think dan's cleanser is more for people with oily skin since that is excessive oil is another cause of acne, but I'm not sure if it's for me. It's way too overdrying, I put on a generous amount of moisturizer and even a bit of jojoba oil and it's still pretty dry along with dry patches and everything. I'm not really comfortable with putting on a boat load of moisturizer and jojoba oil to combat this.
Am I correct in going for a weaker (gentle) cleanser? Any suggestions on which one? edit: saw one of Dan's old posts Dan says: Costello, the cleanser has never been drying. It is now more moisturizing however. The BP is what is drying your skin, not the cleanser. I don't think you'll find a more mild cleanser, especially since we added more moisturization to this one. But in the meantime, perhaps add some jojoba to your moisturizer and you should notice significant improvements in your dryness. But that can't be...my skin always seems drier right after using the cleanser. Explanation please???

Funny, I look in the mirror and examine my skin since I looked horrible when I was 15, and care much more about my skin, I'm 18 now. I thought it was still kinda bad (although I know it has improved greatly since then) but now that I've seen recent sort of close up pictures of myself in bright light it looks like I have mild acne.

I understand it's a beta product and there isn't really a best way to incorporate yet I suppose but is it overboard to use BP, sal acid, and AHA on the same day? Spread out during the day though of course...I tried it yesterday and my skin reacted fine to it even though I applied it liberally. My skin isn't really sensitive, if at all.
Here's what I did: Morning: (all of these are Dan's products and everything applied liberally) Cleanser BP AHA+ (seems most people use it at night but whatever) Moisturizer with jojoboa oil (AHA wasn't good enough of a mositurizer on it's own for me, the cleanser makes me pretty dry, I think my skin is normal before cleansing) Night: Cleanser BP (after waiting awhile) sal acid Moisturizer w/ possibly jojoboa oil If this seems like I'm desperate or something, I'm not. This is just what I tried yesterday, before this I did the regimen once a day instead of two. My acne is about mild to moderate now and has greatly improved over the last few months even before starting the regimen. I get very few breakouts and when I do it's pretty minor whiteheads and it goes away faster. I read that you shouldn't use sal acid and BP at the same time is this true? I also read sal acid is supposed to more of a spot treatment than how Dan describes it in the product description to put it all over your face. Any tips, suggestions, comments etc. on what I'm doing?

To the guys who are really depressed about their acne, why not try it? At least while it's healing. I can only see this not working if your acne is really bumpy and raised

if I used benzoyl peroxide in the past for a while (as in a few months) then stopped because I started using sulfur instead and want to start using it again, do I need to start with a small amount again? Is my skin still "used to it"?
What about using benzoyl peroxide and sulfur at the same time? edit: I'm sort of assuming I still need to start out with a relatively small amount but up the amount faster than someone who's never used it before |
