QUOTE(that1spot @ Jul 4 2007, 03:18 PM) hey guys my doctor priscribed me 50g of minocycline each day and i am just wondering if this is enough or not. Iv been on it for a month now and it is a 3 mounth course. I havnt seen any improvments yet but i just dont think they are working. any help guys thanks I think you mean 50mg. I used it when I was 15. (17 now)...didn't do much, and then you have to watch out for Iron and all. I would think you know that. If not, Iron will affect it somehow, so dont have Iron 2 hours before and after. I had used Benzaclin and Retin-a micro also when I was on it...and when I used that and stopped the Minocycline, it helped. But here I am today with lots of uninflammed acne, oh joy. Try something topical also. "Nelsons Acne Gel" a homeopathic gel, has great reviews. 10 grams of B5 a day for 2 months is another option, along with cutting out dairy, and all. Maybe Oregon Grape Root liquid tincture will help greatly (taken under the tounge) in a few weeks. Anyways I dont know about the dosage of Minocycline. I recall mine was 45ish.

There are newer studies out that show a lower dose of mino and other such drugs can be just as effective as higher doses....and they carry less risk of horrible side effects like antibiotic induced colitis.
Some antibiotics don't just kill bacteria, they also exert an anti-inflammatory effect, thus they help acne even at low doses. Antibiotics can take up to three months to see the full effects, sometimes. Others...it only takes a week. I've had to take antibiotics for bronchitis and pneumonia at various times, and each time I took those meds (different ones at different times), my acne would clear up nicely. The time for clearing is highly dependent on the individual and the antibiotic.

Take responsibility for your health; read the full prescribing information for any medication you take and understand that not all risks or potential side effects will likely ever be fully known. My nick is pronounced 'Win.'

I forgot about that research about less being just as good. lol. I got a different dermatologist this time so I have to quit the medication on my own. That's rather dumb, I think! My doctor should have told me that I needed to quit the next month. Anyways, I think it works but it's just that I have redmarks that are lingering.

Wish I had more time to let lots know this...
after being given rx for lots of antibiotics for sudden outbreak of acne, it worsened, more and more. topicals and orals all made it worse and very very frustrating, turned out, as I diagnosed myself, I actually had folliculitis that was NOT bacterial BUT fungal and all the antibiotics is what made it worse! ONLY an antifungal made it go away. The docs didn't want to believe me until I insisted they culture it! SO PEOP w/ acne getting worse with antibiotics ...check it out! If you've had ANYTHING like too many antibiotics OR steroids for poison ivy, etc, that would effect your immune system ...chances are what you have is a yeast infection of the hair follicles AND NOT acne, and making the dermatologist richer all at once. Hope you pass this on just FYI and in case this might be your prob. Be blessed! ALSO, my husband was made horribly sick with the tetracycline, horribly sick. Heads up! hey guys my doctor priscribed me 50g of minocycline each day and i am just wondering if this is enough or not. Iv been on it for a month now and it is a 3 mounth course. I havnt seen any improvments yet but i just dont think they are working. any help guys thanks |

I was on 100mg a day which helped to clear my acne. Then i went down to 50 mg every day and then 50mg every other day. Now i am breaking out alot and im back up to 100mg. I hope this will clear me up...but so far on the upped dose (over a week) i see no results. I might have to swtich to another antibiotic.
