| Pros: | Reduction in cysts, mild fading of hyperpigmentation, some tightening of pores |
| Cons: | Slight redness, being house-bound for 2 days |
| Bottom Line: | I had Levulan (30 min. incubation time) + Blu-U (10 min.) last week, and so far I'm cautiously optimistic. I've noticed that the cysts on my cheek as well as other spots on the chin dried up very quickly, and that some of the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks has faded. I've scheduled two more sessions at $200 each (I have 80% coverage for the Levulan) and am keeping my fingers crossed. After reading all the posts here, I was nervous about the discomfort involved. For me, pain, redness and swelling were minimal. The day of the procedure, i was very slightly red, but after that, I was back to normal.
According to the doctor I consulted, he said that generally about two-thirds of the patients he sees leave satisfied with Levulan + Blu-U... |

| Pros: | NONE!!! |
| Cons: | Super expensive and only made acne and oiliness worse!! Waste of time and Money! |
| Bottom Line: | This levulan blue light treatment was the worst thing for me. I have acne prone, very very oily skin. By having this procedure done I was really hoping for a huge reduction in oiliness (acne too but main concern was reduction in oiliness).
I had 3 treatments done. The last treatment totally ruined my skin. I had to hide out for nearly 2 weeks as my skin looked severely burned and crusty. It was nasty and hurt severely. It did NOT reduce the oiliness. In fact it made it worse. And, I broke out really bad in general and in places where my skin never breaks out.
It took me several months for my skin to "recover" & clear up.
Complete waste of money!! (and I had been so hopeful)
Recently, I have started usuing natural products like Jojoba Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Aspirin mask, milk, honey, egg white, lemon, aloe vera, calamine, etc. and my skin is totally loving it!!! My skin has cleared up a lot and there is a reduction in oiliness and my skin feels clean, & soft. Works great & |

| Pros: | it is amazing! Do it if you have acne. I tried antibiotics, creams for over 10 years. Terrible. It went away some but I still had it. This is the only thing that works. Ask for a microderm before the ALA is set on your face. Also ask for IPL. |

| Bottom Line: | I did the blue-u light with the infrared light for 4 weeks, twice a week (one day blue, one day infrared) and can't say it worked. I also did one session of levulan with blue-u light and again, can't say it worked. I was fortunate to do these treatments in a study, so I didn't pay for them. I would recommend looking for laser centers that offer studies to try this, rather than paying. Accutane worked the best (though it dried up my sinuses) but recently learned you can take it in very low dosages, though for a much longer time. But with so many side affects, I would recommend 2.5% BP, mild cleanser (vanicream) a good moisturizer (nuetrogena healthy defense) and a health insurance plan where you can get injections from derm for cystic breakouts. Also, health reimbursement account for monthly chemical peels (as long as it's from a derm and a receipt for treatment of acne is provided) and a diet full of vegetables! |

I had blu u with levulan almost a year ago. At first I looked horrible, and my acne got worse. After the second treatment, I had the same reaction. About 3-4 weeks after my second treatment, my skin really cleared up! It stayed clear for a good 4 months. I am currently going through the treatment again without ala, due to pregnancy. I have not seen any improvement yet, but I am just getting started.
I would say that if you have tried many things to clear up your acne, and nothing works, it is worth a shot. I have also done one round of accutane about 7 years ago. This would be my best advice for acne treatment! It really works, if you are a candidate for it. My skin was totally clear for over 2 years!
