| Bottom Line: | I did the blue-u light with the infrared light for 4 weeks, twice a week (one day blue, one day infrared) and can't say it worked. I also did one session of levulan with blue-u light and again, can't say it worked. I was fortunate to do these treatments in a study, so I didn't pay for them. I would recommend looking for laser centers that offer studies to try this, rather than paying. Accutane worked the best (though it dried up my sinuses) but recently learned you can take it in very low dosages, though for a much longer time. But with so many side affects, I would recommend 2.5% BP, mild cleanser (vanicream) a good moisturizer (nuetrogena healthy defense) and a health insurance plan where you can get injections from derm for cystic breakouts. Also, health reimbursement account for monthly chemical peels (as long as it's from a derm and a receipt for treatment of acne is provided) and a diet full of vegetables! |

I had blu u with levulan almost a year ago. At first I looked horrible, and my acne got worse. After the second treatment, I had the same reaction. About 3-4 weeks after my second treatment, my skin really cleared up! It stayed clear for a good 4 months. I am currently going through the treatment again without ala, due to pregnancy. I have not seen any improvement yet, but I am just getting started.
I would say that if you have tried many things to clear up your acne, and nothing works, it is worth a shot. I have also done one round of accutane about 7 years ago. This would be my best advice for acne treatment! It really works, if you are a candidate for it. My skin was totally clear for over 2 years!

Well, I thought I would do a follow up to a previous post I had left. It is now June, about 4 months after my last treatment. And I must say that I am VERY happy with the results.
My skin is still 99% clear, my esthetician has seen my skin for over 1 year, and she said my pores are very clear. I have had maybe 2 or 3 blemishes (not breakouts) in the last 4 months. I do not feel I have large pores nor does my esthetician think my pores have decreased in size.
I would like to point out something that may not be obvious to some, it has been a partial surprise to me but in reality it makes sense. My daily regimen is to use a light lotion with a separate 30SPF booster (Dermalogica). I noticed that my skin is way less oily (still maintains a slight glow) then before treatment; however, I am very sensitive to sunburns now. I have noticed that if I forget to apply my 30SPF I will get a sunburn (slight pink) but quickly fades, from a short time outside. I am the type that does burn easily however I seem to be more sensitive then I used to be.
With that said, I am still very pleased with my results and I would recommend anyone to at least evaluate this treatment, I do not think it is for everyone and I would not suggest a blanket Accutane treatment to anyone. Please research all treatments available and get a second opinion, do not let the person collecting the money for a treatment tell you to use theirs.

I have had three total treatments. I will give you the effects I had on each.
The first treatment- I had the laser, levulan(1hr), with the blue light(8min). Caused four days of redness with a big break out that lasted two terrible weeks.
The second treatment-I had a facial the day before, same thing, but bluelight 4 minutes longer. Much better results, four days red, after about 5 days i was looking really clear.
The third treatment-just levulan with blue light(no laser)- terrible breakout, redness lasting for almost a week. And that was my last one..Why? I had spent nearly 2000 dollars to make my acne only worse. Its now 3 months later, my acne is more imflamed, and scars are more commony made. Oh yeah not to mention all the school this crap made me miss, and social situations I am currently still struggling with. These lame 2000 have done nothing but made me depressed, from not knowing how ugly I could look. (Aw I miss my old face-pre treatment)
Time for the Tane!!
