| Pros | seems to help fade hyperpigmentation may help with atrophy following cortisone injections |
|---|---|
| Cons | having to squeeze fresh juice? |
| Bottom line | I started applying freshly squeezed lemon juice with a cotton ball to my reddish acne marks about a month ago and they seem to be fading more quickly than before I began the treatment. Also, I have noticed that since using the lemon juice treatment, the atrophy or pitting of an area of my skin where I had cortisone injected into a cystic pimple seems to be improving rather well. This indentation was much more noticeable shortly after the injection (about three weeks ago) than it is now, as was its corresponding dark spot/hyperpigmentation. I believe it is the lemon juice that has helped heal this imperfection, which is about 60-70% better at this point, however it may also be that I have been using a baking soda mask at night. (BTW, the baking soda mask seems to be helping me stay completely clear). The way I apply lemon juice is I juice half a lemon into a bowl and use 1-2 cotton balls to apply it wherever I'm prone to getting acne. I leave it on as long as possible while at home and rinse it off before applying acne medication and moisturizer. I do this once a day. The baking soda mask I use is very simple: mix regular baking soda with water until you get a paste and apply to your acne-prone areas; wait at least 5-10 mins (or longer if possible) and rinse before applying acne medication and moisturizer, if applicable. |

| Pros | Fades red marks Gets rid of pimples Overall massive improvemenet in face |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stings the first couple times Can irritate skin Makes you really pale |
| Bottom line | What I did was I squeezed a quarter lemon right onto my face then used a cotton pad to make sure my whole face was covered in the lemon juice. I did this in the morning and at night after washing my face. Within 3 days almost all of my red marks and pimples had vanished. However, I stopped this because it had made me way too pale and within a week my acne had come back just as bad. Then i immediately began using the lemon juice again and once again my acne cleared up. This is truly no coincidence, it really works. Except the second time it took closer to a week rather than 3 days. If yoou have open cuts or popped pimples this will sting a lot but you will find that this cleans out the pore, keeps the pimple from coming back and allows it to heal faster since it contains plenty of vitamin C. Do not use right before going out into the sun as this will irritate the skin, make it really red and dry your skin out badly. Also, try not to get carried away with it. It can be tempting to use this more than twice a day but your skin may not be able to handle this and it will make things worse. |

| Pros | Fades scars Lightens skin Decreases breakouts Makes skin smoother Makes skin less oily |
|---|---|
| Cons | Makes pimples bleed Initial burning |
| Bottom line | I started using lemon juice as a daily toner because i had more pigmentation then pimples, initially the lemon juice made my face red when first applied and the initial burn was really painful. But after using it for a week my face adjusted to the lemon juice. I use it daily like a regime and it has made a diff to my skins texture and my skin has gotten paler almost like its been bleached. But the pigmentation did not fade lik i thought it would |

| Pros | Lessens blemishes Lightens acne scars Reduces acne inflammation Reduces blackhead visibility Sloughs off dead skin/dry skin Smooths skin texture |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stings |
| Bottom line | An inexpensive alternative to other products with AHA properties. Rejuvenates the skin by removing dead skin cells and promotes new skin growth. Ideally, it's best to use fresh lemon over the bottled lemon juice because the bottled form is made from concentration which is not as fresh, duh! After cleansing, smear a small slice of lemon on the face (avoid eye area). You will feel a slight burning sensation but don't be alarmed. Those with sensitive skin can squeeze the slice and dilute with water for a less acidic effect. Rinse off after 15-20 minutes and moisturize. Don't do this for more than twice a week or your skin will be hypersensitive to the sun. I let it dry and put on moisturizer on top of it, and leave it as is overnight. Then, washing my face as usual the next morning. But, I only do this once every week. Leaving it on overnight very often can irritate the skin. Or squeeze a slice and use a Q-tip to apply it on the acne scar undiluted. Do this twice a day and you will see an improvement on the acne scar. I'm not sure if it would work for acne scars that have been present for longer than 2 months, but you can try. |

| Pros | Leaves your skin so soft Lightens Skin Reduce redness Fades acne scars |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stings if you have an open wound Drys up skin |
| Bottom line | I had very light acne but I have these little bumps on my nose but it doesn't show. I been using this for about a week and I had a dramatic change I had almost no acne before using this I Also had pimples now I only get like 1 or 2 a week. Near my nose I had really bad redness and near my chin but it has reduce alot I have a light brownish skin and I notice my skin seems lighter so beware. Also I had oily skin now only my nose is a bit oily. Another thing your can try is to add a pinch of sugar and it will take away all the dead skin. |

| Pros | Reduces redness Dries pimples Does work. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Leaves skin somewhat dry (can easily be fixed by an oil free moisturizer) Itches a little bit on contact |
| Bottom line | At first I was skeptical about putting pure lemon juice one my face but I decided to try it anyways. For the first few days I didn't really notice any difference but on the 5th or 6th day the redness really started to go down. I don't have many pimples, but I have lots of post-acne red spots. I use just cetaphil cleanser for all skin types, gently, and then apply lemon juice at night, and then a thin layer of retina-a (prescribed by doctor). In the morning my skin feels and looks great and is very soft. I've noticed a dramatic change in the clarity of my skin and strongly recommend this to anyone. |

| Pros | Cheap and natural Brightens skin tone Antibacterial Fades hyperpigmentation |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stings If used incorrectly, can cause more problems |
| Bottom line | Great antibacterial wipe for your face. I made the mistake of applying this full strength and leaving it on - which caused over-drying and irritation and thus led to more skin problems. I have oily skin with dry and sensitive cheeks, so I've found that applying this solely to my T-zone is the most effective. When applied to my dry areas, I've gotten little red bumps that resemble rosacea. So I would caution that you want to use this sparingly and maybe not leave it on for a long time, like I did - especially on areas of sensitive skin. I also think part of the reason my skin was distressed while using this was that I was overdoing it with harsh products. I was cleansing with my Clarisonic, using ACV and lemon juice as a toner, and applying MUAC's Gly-Luronic Serum. Cutting back on trying different things on my face and simplifying my regimen has actually been much better for me. Another caution - I once tried to make a mixture of lemon juice and ACV and stored it in a glass bottle so that I didn't have to keep squeezing a lemon every night. I don't recommend doing this, because the lemon goes bad very quickly... and the rotted juice will definitely cause your skin to react badly! Common sense, I know, but just in case anyone was considering storing a mixture for future use... |

| Pros | Works Great! Is extremely cheap Relatively fast |
|---|---|
| Cons | Don't use if you have any open wounds/cuts on your face or you'll be in so much pain. |
| Bottom line | It's great, if you use it daily with a cotton bud you'll get results, it is great at reducing redness and can even reduce the appearance of scars. It really helped me get rid of most of my acne! |
