I'm in my 30's and have had acne scars on my cheeks for years, but they got worse as I aged. The Dr said they weren't very deep, though. I decided to get the c02 and erbium laser done ($4,000). The Dermatologist used more of the erbium laser. It has just been a week after the procedure and my scars seem to look worse then before. They are not as deep as they were, but I seem to have more scars than I had to begin with. He did mention that he could do some dermasanding if I wasn't pleased with the outcome. Now, if that doesn't work I'll scream!! I can't believe I've spend this much for my scars to look worse. Just beware!! The laser ALONE will not work on acne scars. This problem really sucks cause it's right on your face.
I hope you guys have better luck!

I am having laser treatments right now and this is my second but I'm not sure on what lasers he is using. He uses two different ones and last about fifteen minutes.
I have only about four or five acne scars that are consider mild. He said I would only need maybe one or two tratments! but honestly I didn't see that much improvement
with the first treatment. And I hope I'm not sorry that I invested this much money cost of treatments are 450.00 each time .
Anyone else having the same treatment as I am please share your thoughts.

I have had four Fraxel Laser treatments for the face. I have had a number of other treatments before including dermabrasion, fillers (temporary), chemical peels, Coolbeam and scar "improving" lotions. I was disappointed with all of them, though they had some affect (except the lotion). Fraxel is probably the best treatment I have had and cost about a $1000 per treatment. But I have about a 40% improvement in my scars which are of the "rolling" type - moderate in severity. And my skin tone is much better as well. If I get one more treatment I hope to get up to a 50% improvement but I sense there are diminishing returns and they don't recommend more than 6. So it is likely there is not much affect after about 5 treatments. I would like to see 80 to 90% improvement but I don't think that exist with products on the market and I don't think Fraxel alone will be able to do that.
To get the best results from the Fraxel laser you have to use it at a high setting - at least above 10 and preferably 15 if you can stand the pain. Most of my treatments were done at around 12 or so. There is about a three to four day down time, although you can go out in public within a day or two as long as you are not seeing people you know.
I hope that helps others.

I just finished my 4th Fraxil treatment yesterday. I waited several months to complete the treatments because my skin became sensitive.Small red spots would appear on my face when exfoliating or washing with a wash cloth. This lasted for a few months.I have also noticed
some sun damage around the eye and nose area, like brown age spots. I did not have this skin discoloration prior to the 1st treatment in December,05.Today my face is extremely swollen and ice is not helping. Does this laser procedure cause a thining of the outer layer of the skin or a sensitivity of the skin. Is there anthing that I can do to reduce the swelling and redness.

There are several posters here who have given bad reviews of laser resurfacing including Fraxel. If your face is worse that it was before treatment, how come you didn't sue your doctor and the clinic you went to? I feel bad reading the poor reviews because that has made me lose all hope. I was dead-set on getting Fraxel done to me, and I was very excited, enthusiastic, and thrilled about the prospect of my scars disappearing without a trace. I only have 2 atrophic scars and 3 shallow icepick scars. PLEASE HELP!

I found some imformation about acne scar, hope this detail can help you;
question:
Sir,
My daugther is 18 and has had acne since 14. Accutane (Acnotin) is helping a great deal and keeps it under control. She stands a good chance at a modeling career and has even taken part in various beauty contests, sadly however the scars on her cheeks and back are too visible. There are so many pros and cons regarding the different types of treatments for acne scars and I feel lost what would be best suited for her, microderabrasion, dermabrasion, various laser treatments and someone has even suggested skin needling. I wouldn't risk anything before hearing a qualified doctor's opinion. Please reply in Thai if you prefer and thank you very much for your advise.
Best regards
Abin
Answer:
Here are facts about management of acne scars:
Acne scars should be managed when active acne has subsided
Acne scars are complex, there will be different type of scars on the same location.
Management has to be adjusted for each type of scar
There are three major methods of treatment:
4.1 Surgery or laser resurfacing :
Pitted scars >> punch excision
Fibrotic boxcar scars >> Laser resurfacing ( CO2 ) or dermabrasion
Shallow rolling scars >> Subcision
Hypertrophic /keloids >> scar excision, Laser resurfacing
4.2 Nonablative laser resurfacing:
Telangiectatic red scars >> IPL or Pulse dye laser
Shallow rollings scars >> Microdermabrrasion, Long-pulsed infrared laser ( e.g Cool touch, Mydon, Smoothbeam, Aramis etc)
Hypertrophic scars >> Pulse dye laser or Nd:YAG laser
4.3 Chemical:
shallow rolling scars >> Trichloroacetic acid application,
Filler substance injections
Iontophoresis with vitamin A
In conclusion, most of the patients require more than one method of treatment. Each treatment when correctly performed will produce some improvement. But one thing is certain, whatever we do we will not get 100 % result. The best combination treatment will produce 70-80 % improvement.

And he still said the best result for acne scar like rolling scar or box scar is
subcision + Thermal mode Erbium YAG or Long-pulsed Nd: YAG (mydon)
The best dark spot from acne is IPL
Hope this can help

I just finished my third Fraxel Laser treatment and my skin looks worse then ever. They tell you there is no dowm time but there is . Each time I left the office, I have been extremely swollen and discolored. My skin peels and flakes for about a week. I now have a dark spot on my face, where I never had one before. I look like I have some skin disease. I have not noticed any improvement in my skin. I went from nice skin to ugly skin. I would not suggest Fraxel treatments. They don't work. They are also to expensive and are painful.
