for those of you who don't have ice pick scarring, give subcision a try. i had mild indentations on my cheeks, and it smoothed out a great deal. i really like the way it looks, and it doesn't affect the pattern of your beard growth (if you're a guy ;) as opposed to lasers which leave spotty/bald/uneven patches in your facial hair.

remember, even hot shot celebrities like brad pitt and cameron diaz have acne scars. don't fret.

I had full face CO2 3 months ago. Because I had cystic acne when I was in my twenties, I had some pretty bad acne scars. I had very low self esteem. I hated to look at myself in the mirror. I had been to several plastic surgeons for consultations, but in the end I was always deterred by the cost. This year, I decided to go through with the surgery despite the hefty price tag because I figured I am worth it. I have to say that I am very pleased with the results. No, my scars are not all gone, but they have improved enough so that I have much more confidence in my appearance which is reflected in my interactions with people. I used to avoid making eye contact with people and I would never initiate a conversation with anyone. I always felt "ugly".

If you are considering having the surgery, make sure you are prepared for it. It is a lot to go through. I thought I was prepared, but I really wasn't. You must be meticulous about the aftercare and follow all the dr's instructions to the letter. I had quite a bit of redness for almost 2 months. I have a little hyperpigmentation because I have dark hair and eyes with slight olive skin tone. The discoloration that I do have in a few small areas is not noticeable to others, only to me. Nothing to complain about though and it should go away. I was skeptical that my skin would continue to improve for six months following the surgery, but so far that has been my experience. I am still seeing changes and it has been 3 months. Also, you must be very careful about exposure to the sun. You should be anyway, but you really cannot be in the sun without some major sunblock. This surgery really is making a committment to the way you take care of your skin. Everything from a skin care regime to sun protection is extremely important. You don't want to spend all that money on surgery and then go out in the sun and get burned. You really have to be careful.

Am I glad I did it? YES! The surgery not only changed my outside, but the inside as well and THAT is really what is important! I hope this helps someone. I read these message boards all the time when I was trying to decide to go through with the surgery and I honestly didn't know what to think. One good thing my surgeon did was he introduced me to another patient who had just undergone the same surgery. Meeting her and talking to her was a huge help in making my decision. Ask you surgeon if you could talk with one of his/her patients.

Good luck!

hey hey FELLAS ......i have experienced alot of devices for skin resurfacing and nothin worked...they jus bluf and nothin else ....the best results i had were from microdermabrasion and the improvement was 5%; it jus got rid of the redness of my scars as you know scars are red when they are fresh. yet, i have not tried LASER but frankly i do not trust none of those machines after what i went thru.i wud recommend to google thru the sites and try to get as much info as u can for skin scars treatment and then pick the ones that had patients with pictures and info that had improved. You also try to contact those who had the treatment off the sites u want to take steps to treat ur skin from. GOOD LUCK and if u find any, let me know with ur comments here.

All of the comments I have read have been very helpful, yet has only added to further questions about the best possible solution. Like the rest of you, I have tried a lot of different treatments in the past and all have ended in very little results and I just gave up hope. However, I do want to take action again. Can anyone recommend a good, reputable doctor in the Orange County or Los Angeles area?

I came back from a free consultation from Celibre based in Orange, CA regarding my back acne. They said that I would need to get 6 treatments for $5000. Has anyone had this type of treatment, if so how effective is it and is the price reasonable? It's too much money for something I'm not sure if I'll get great results for. Of course, they told me that I'll see dramatic results after 2 treatments. Is that credible??
I HATE ACNE!

i am going on my 7th treatment in another week and so far the small scars have nearly all gone.

the great news is that the treatment costs $950 au but i get back 80 percent of the money from medicare. so it only costs me about 175 dollars au per treatment thats like $130 (us) to all you yanks.

the doctor to go to is cinthia weinstein in armadale melb.

microdermabrasions (30 au), blu lights, pulselights etc, are all 80% off.

I have intermediate acne scars on my face. I saw a plastic surgeon couple days ago, who is a professor in his area. He gave me a very honest opinion. He told me recent studies show that laser resurfacing only provide about %25 improvement in acne scars. Dermabrasion works a lot better, he said, however, he said there is a high risk of hyperpigmentation for people with brown eyes, darker hair. (works good on people with blue/green eyes).

I am black and I have had an Erbium Yag treatment. I think it works but you need several treatments, and the doctor has to listen to want you want. I dont have a lot of discoloration now and the scars were improved by 20%. Now I am going back for a full face treatment and he will do more passes on my scarred spots.
