I have intermediate acne scars on my face. I saw a plastic surgeon couple days ago, who is a professor in his area. He gave me a very honest opinion. He told me recent studies show that laser resurfacing only provide about %25 improvement in acne scars. Dermabrasion works a lot better, he said, however, he said there is a high risk of hyperpigmentation for people with brown eyes, darker hair. (works good on people with blue/green eyes).

I am black and I have had an Erbium Yag treatment. I think it works but you need several treatments, and the doctor has to listen to want you want. I dont have a lot of discoloration now and the scars were improved by 20%. Now I am going back for a full face treatment and he will do more passes on my scarred spots.

I just had full-face laser skin resurfacing done (CO2) on July 3 (it is now 3 days after the surgery) and so far I don't see any of my bad acne scars that I had. The doctor said lighter skin types work better with this laser and that I should get really good results out of it. I am not in much pain, my face is a bit red and swollen, but so far, the pock marks don't show at all and I am very pleased with what I am going to get from this when it is all healed. Much improvement! Total cost $3900 and my doctor was very accomodating with fitting me into the schedule. I had my consultation on Friday and the 1-hour procedure on Monday. I recommend Dr. Hilinski of San Diego, CA. I will keep posting updates on my results. If you have any questions or advice for after-care for my face and make-up advice, please email me at [email address removed].

hi everyone it has been 3 weeks since i went through with the sciton microlaser peel (uses erbium). my doc introduced it to me as an alternative to co2 laser with its lower downtime and greater computer-controlled precision. the depth of the peel can be controlled and my doc set it at 90 microns (co2 apparently goes up to 200 microns). my main aim in going for the procedure is too smoothen out the elevated borders of my rolling scar, however i am rather disappointed at the results. while my skin looks more radiant than before, the scars are still there. after perusing many websites, i came to the conclusion that erbium simply does not have the same kind of penatrative power that co2 has. i would advise those considering sciton microlaser for deep acne scars to consider the co2 laser instead. i'm considering gg for co2 in a month's time. i would love to hear from anyone with any experiences to share, especially as to the effect of co2 on elevated surfaces of facial scars. thanks.

I got a Microlaser peel for an initial exfoliation followed by 4 Fraxel treatments and I have noticable improvement of my appearance. Primarily, the improvement is because the lasers shrunk my pores, tightened my skin, and reduced vascularity. Even so, I can say that I think Fraxel reduced the appearance of my small scars. I say small, but they were noticable. In fact, what I call "large pores" actually was pitted pores--just about every pore on the balls of my cheeks--that now appear pretty much normal. I love it! I'm interested in the Tazorac mentioned below for some remaining, little bit bigger scars, but for big pitted pores and vascularity, Fraxel really worked for me. Good luck all!

Listen, with all the different types of acne scar reduction procedures out there, it's no wonder there are so many confused people. I would like to shine some light on this, i personally have had laser resurfacing done 3 times, dermabrasion done at least 4 times, chemical peels more than 6, and the end result? Well, wheter you guys believe me or not, after all those procedures, my scars are still very visible. I would say 25% improvement overall. Now, this is not to discourage anyone, We all respond differently to different treatments, depending on many factors. Severity, age, and so forth. But unfortunately, we tend to believe in false hopes. Why? Because living with acne scars is so hard, so what do we do? We look for solutions to a problem that has yet been solved. Until there is new development in skin renewal procedures, like stem cell research, for example, this battle will be forever. Now, ask yourself, is it worth all the time, money, and anguish just to see minor improvements?? Well that is the question everyone here has to ask themselves? Is it worth it? You might here a couple of success stories here and there, but keep in mind, those stories are very deceiving, how do you know their severity is the same as yours? You cannot assume that if one thing works for a person then it must be true. Hell, many people think they have scars, but it's just a blemish or something else. These people are the ones with success stories, while people like i, the ones with real scars are the ones with the truth. Who will you believe?

Don't get Laser Resurfacing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get Fraxel. I went to a consultation today with a doctor who does Fraxel and he was very honest and said that the results are never higher than 50% improvement. As an acne scar sufferer, I know of another way to improve your scars by 75%. So Lasers aren't worth it. He also said they take 6 months to see improvements. Proven method: If you have depressed scars you need to be on max strength Tazorac (Twice a day). I know this is a lot but it is necessary to repair your damaged skin. You must massage the scar(s) daily for several minutes if possible when you apply the Tazorac. Also be on a Glycolic Acid toner if possible to help exfoliate even more. The more you exfoliate and massage, the more the scar will fade. It will take many months to a year..but it can yield a >75% improvement with this method. However, you can't miss a dose of the Tazorac for this to work. And you must firmly massage the scar daily!! For minor depressed scars I've seen them GO AWAY in about 2 months with this method. So massaging daily with Tazorac WILL COMPLETELY elimiate SOME scars....maybe not all..but it WILL eliminate some minor depressed scars that wouldn't go away otherwise. Hopes this helps. There is no need to pay for laser resurfacing which may cause discoloration or other problems. Just don't do it. Dermatologists have PROVEN that massaging daily with a topical retinoid will absolutely reduce the scars.

I'm in my 30's and have had acne scars on my cheeks for years, but they got worse as I aged. The Dr said they weren't very deep, though. I decided to get the c02 and erbium laser done ($4,000). The Dermatologist used more of the erbium laser. It has just been a week after the procedure and my scars seem to look worse then before. They are not as deep as they were, but I seem to have more scars than I had to begin with. He did mention that he could do some dermasanding if I wasn't pleased with the outcome. Now, if that doesn't work I'll scream!! I can't believe I've spend this much for my scars to look worse. Just beware!! The laser ALONE will not work on acne scars. This problem really sucks cause it's right on your face.
