I have 17 more days and will finish a 6 month treatment. It has worked wonders. The most severe side effects have been dryness and nose bleeds. Just wish I had made the decision sooner. I have quite a bit of scaring from old acne. I think the winter may be worse for dryness, but the summer would have been worse for sun exposure. I'd do it again, but hope that I don't have to. I am 50 years old (older than most people who use it).

I've had severe acne ever since 8th grade, and i am now in my first year of college. 2 years ago i took accutane and it worked wonders, my face cleared up and it was the best few months of my life. i was confident and did not have to get up every morning worrying about what my face would look like. unfortunately, it has come back; not as bad, but still pretty awful. i just started accutane again with the hopes ill have the same result.

I was on Accutane for about 5 months. It did do what it was supposed to do and cure my acne almost completley. However, the side effects are unbearable. I had headaches, problems with my eyesight and depression among other things. I took myself off of it due to the side effects. Also, I had a friend that was on it. He was in the military and has since been medically discharged due to the side effects. It practically destroyed his kidneys. He now needs a kidney transplant or he will die. All thanks to Accutane. I will never take it again and am worried about my kidneys as well. As a matter of fact I am going to the doctor here in about 30 min for a blood test to make sure Accutane didnt mess up my kidneys as well. I do not recommend it at all. I dont think the side effects are even close to benifits.

Was on Accutane for 4 months last year during the winter season - which is the WORST season to go on it (for all you who are thinking about trying it). Massive dry, itchy, flaky skin - unrelieved by even the thickest moisturizers. Very affordable - the generic Accutane was $5 for the first month and $10 for the last three months (insurance co-pays increased in the new year). Results were excellent - was completely pimple free for nearly 11 months (and I had the most pesky, unrelenting, cystic acne - particularly on my chin, which made all facial expressions painful as hell). Now that the seasons are changing and it's getting a bit warmer, I'm starting to get a little oily again and having small breakouts. A bit discouraging, but nothing I can't manage - it's 1/10 the amount I used to get, and the pimples are much smaller and a lot less painful than they used to be. Am now using the generic version of Proactiv (AcneFree, less than $20 for a month's supply from CVS), which is helping alot. It's a bit harsh to begin with, but using a good oil-free moisurizer after doing the twice daily regimen helps to sooth the skin. Note for women: make sure you're using good birth control while you're on Accutane - I bought an alarm wrist watch to guarantee that I would take my pill on time.

I suffer from adult onset nodularcystic acne (I am almost 30), and I have taken pretty much every drug on the market to alleviate my acne--Retin-A, Doxycylcine, Minocycline, Benzoyl Peroxide, and NOTHING worked. In fact, all of the previous treatments actually made my acne worse (the breakout from the Retin-A was beyond horrible).

Accutane is a MIRACLE. In just three short months of Accutane treatment, I have noticed that every single aspect of my face is PERFECT!! As of right now, I do not have one cystic lesion on any part of my body!! NOT ONE! Accutane has cleared everything up perfectly.

And side effects? Chapped lips, dry skin, and dry eyes seem very pervasive, but, in the end, and when I compare it to a blemish free face, it is well worth it.

I would encourage everyone who has stubborn, recalcitrant acne to give Accutane serious consideration; it could change your life. It certainly changed mine.

I've never seen a medication with so many side effects, including possible depression. But it's worth it. I 100% recommend taking Accutane, if you keep a vigilant eye out for side effects. Oh, and no drinking on this medication.

this is a total life-saver....it was the best decision I ever made as far as my face goes. the side-effects are so over exagerated.
