First of all, I wish I could have taken Accutane when my acne wasn't so terrible, as many of these people seem to have done- how lucky! I previously had nodular-cystic acne and after trying every antibiotic and topical cream on the block, my dermatologist finally gave me a prescription for a cycle of accutane. Yes, I had to have my blood drawn constantly, my lips were always chapped, my night vision went strange, and my tryglicerides temporarily shot up, but it was all absolutely worth it to see my acne dissapear and my face dry out for the first time since I was eleven years old. It wasn't particularly cheap, about $50/month with my insurance, but still much cheaper than chemical peels and lasers. I've been off it five years, and while some of the oiliness and pimples have returned, they aren't anywhere near as bad as they were pre-accutane.

i started getting acne out of the blue.... i had perfect skin until this year (15) all of the sudden i started having breakouts and now have had acne for about 6 months..... it has been terrible i lost all the confidence i used to have i dont like going out as much and i dont look people in the eye any more when i talk to them..... i used to have so much fun and now this has put such a restraint on my joy of life.... i started taking acutane (sotret) in january so im finishing up my 3rd month..... my only side effect is chapped lips. my acne is concentrated around my chin and mouth area before accutane the acne was raised and bumpy now my skin is pretty smooth but i have many red marks where the zits were... i dont know if this is part of the process or if this is just not working.....if it is working how long will it take for the red marks to go away..... im really upset about this i dont know why i got acne it doesnt seem fair.... if anyone has any answers for me please help me.... you can e-mail me at [email address removed]

I'm in my early 20's with whiteheads and bumps on my forehead. Accutane definitely cleared it up and made my skin less oily. However.... only about after a month of being off it, my face started getting really oily,my face broke out and my back and chest started getting acne on it too. I used this for about 9 months. It's very expensive and having to get your blood drawn every month may not be worth it.

I personally believe Accutane has a serious relapse rate. I started taking it at 20; with 80mg/day during 8 months, which was hell. I stayed free during 6 years, played again with antibiotics during 3 years and got back on again. But now on a dosis of 20mg during 1 year, which worked great, only relapse came back 1 year after I stopped. Now my derm suggests a continuous use of 10mg a day.
I have been terrified about this and still am. Only in Australia this seems to be common practice. Are there other people who have experience with long-term, low-dose use of Accutane?

I had suffered for almost all my life begining from my teen years and after I did the treatment, I have never had not even one zit from then. It wonderful to forget what it was to feel pain everyday on your face and to be ashamed of going out because you have a "foreign body" on the top of your nose.

I'm truely afraid that it might come back, so I take care of not eating alot of cheese or wearing to much make up...but since then, I dont do anything on my face's skin it and it still looks wonderful!

I recomend it if you have a strong health and if you dont have colesterol or fat problems.

It was well worth it. The 2 years following my last month of it were the best of my life because my skin was naturally beautiful. Problem: my doc had to leave out of town for an emergency on my 5th month, so that month was skipped and then she put me on it for only one more month. I was suppose to be on it for 6 months straight, but was only on it for 5 months with a month missed. I believe that is why my acne is returning. I want to go on it again, but I don't have health insurance and my doc wants to start from the beginning with all of the creams, gels, and antibiotics that don't work!
My side affects were joint problems and half of my hair fell out...but it was worth it!!!
If anyone knows a dermatologist near orlando, fl. that has a positive view on accutane and would probably be willing to get me on it, please let me know: [email address removed]

I'm on roaccutane at the moment(4th Month). i can honestly say that my acne has become much worse than it ever was or has been!!!!i've never had acne ANYWHERE except my forehead but within days of going on this drug my cheeks and chin became affected with the cystic type of acne!!!!!

i've gotta say that it doesnt really seem worth the hassel, all the non-waxing, muscle aches and chapped lips...not to mention SEVERE mood changes!!!

my derm is TRYING to get me to combine roaccutane with a course of prednislone (steroids)[no way in hell i'm going on those again] but she's already put me on a DALACIN-T!!!!!!

All i have2say is THANK GOD i'm not paying for this sh*t!

This totally works! I'm a 30 year old male and have had acne that came and went for over 10 years now. It was never too bad or too much, but it has been leaving marks and scars and lately I had been getting some nasty cysts which took months to clear. My skin was really oily also.

I tried every OTC treatment and was prescribed Differin and antibiotics. Differin worked for a while but then I started getting breakouts again and it was real harsh on my skin. Antibiotics worked but of course you can't take them forever.

I was prescribed Roaccutane (as they call Accutane here) just over a month ago. Despite I'm on a very low dose (20mg), results have been simply AMAZING. I'm completely clear: haven't had a single breakout in the past 3 weeks. Plus my skin isn't oily at all but not overly dry either and smooth like a baby. Only side effect: chapped lips.

I don't know how it works on more severe cases, but I love what I've seen so far! Give it a try! Oh, and my insurance covers most of it so I'm just paying 10 dollars a box for it :)!
