Dry peeling skin, dry nose, dry eyes, bloody constipation, severe lower back pain...I wouldn't have minded all this if my skin would have remained clear for much longer than 8 months. My acne returned as if I had never taken accutane. My sister also took it, it kept her clear a few months more than me. The dermatologist advised us to go for round 2 but the effects are too severe and I can't help but wonder how much damage it's causing to the insides. I have crohn's today and wonder if it is due to accutane. I don't want to scare you all, just info I'm sharing. Ortho Tri Cyclen is truly the best treatment I've done for acne.

hey everyone!

i'm on my fourth month of roaccutane and it has been the best thing ever! it is helping a lot, and my skin is noticeably smoother and the tone is so much better. My advice is to use the right products, and stick with it cuz it works. it may take a while, its quite slow, but worth it!

here are some tips that might help anyone on it:
* i keep a great mositurizer for my lips and use it inside your nose (with an earbud) and you'll never have dry skin. At night you can put on a thick layer and when you wake up itll be better.
* slap on that face moisturizer! you might think oily skin doesnt need it, but its essential! your skin will be moisturized and therefore not produce oil. wash your skin well but dont overdo it and dont exfoliate unless you want red flakes and scars!
* you may need moisturizer for ur body too, cuz it takes moisture from other places on you body than your face.
* there arent too bad side effects, but it did give me hectic mood swings sometimes. It helps if you just tell yourself that the medicine is kicking in and remind yourself to stop being silly!

anyway, hope that helps

Accutane was an absolute life saver for me in highschool. I was put on it in 10th grade, and my skin cleared up within a couple of weeks, so I was only kept on it for 3 months. My dermatologist actually said he had never seen it work so well on someone. My skin has stayed completely clear for almost 5 years now. On the downside, it's pretty pricey. I was happy I didn't have to pay for it.

For me, being on accutane for 4 months was a complete nightmare. I suffered severe mood swings which became worse when i was put on the drug as i have a history of depression. I had the usual side effects, dry lips, skin, eyes, muscle aches but now after four months on this stuff i have tonnes of red marks all over my face. I am beginning to doubt whether they will go away as my face completely broke out in places ive never had acne before which did nothing for my confidence. All i can say is that if ur taking this drug, be careful and dont let it ruin ur life!!

I was on 30mg day for 2 weeks and then 60mg after. Im currently on my 3rd week and taking 60mg. I had a initial breakout which wasnt that bad. This stuff is working so far. The side effects like sucidial thoughs and etc, are not true. They only exist if you want to believe they do. Although chapped lips and nostril linings on fire are sure there!Great product where as the antibiotics and benzaclin and others have prooved nothing. Expensive(near 200$ a month) but nothing the goverment will not pay for haha.

I'm 18 years old and midway into my third week of accutane treatment. I just finished almost 2 months of antibiotics treatment which proved very ineffective.

My Derm put me on 40mg of accutane which has proven itself so far. I think he plans to up the dosage at the 10 week mark. As for results I have not gotten any more breakouts, not even the projected initial redness although the acne is slow going.

The only side effects I have suffered so far are extremly dry skin around my chin and mouth area and very chapped lips. Nivia moisturizer and chapstick are good tools to combat this. I must say that I have a good feeling about this.

I cannot say I would recomend accutane at this point in my treatment although i will make sure to check in at the 4 month mark to display my results and give a fair review. I marked it as very affordiable because I don't pay for it although I have heard it can reach a few hundred per month if you have no insurance.

I'm an 18 year old girl whos been suffering from acne since i was 11.

I started treatment in december at 5mg just to get my body used to the stuff. Over the next 6 months it was raised to 20mg then 40mg. I have been on Roaccutane for jsut over 6 months and i havn't broken out since like the second month. Also because i slowly worked my way up the doses i didn't have an initial breakout.

my side effects have been the usual- dry lips being the worst. Skin not so bad as i'v always been a religious moisturiser (i use simple rich replenishing moisturiser in the day and Hemp face protector at night) Although i have been getting some mood swings, the depression i was experiencing due to acne before was worse. Med was free as im in UK

I'm 20 years old, and I've had acne since I was about 13. It was mild to moderate, and mostly just annoying. My brother had very severe acne; after Accutane cleared his skin up, our dermatologist put me on it as well. I was 18. I expected to break out for the first few months, and I did, but the breakouts never stopped. My acne continued to get worse, and by the fourth month of treatment, I had huge cysts on my cheeks. They were marble-sized and painful, but too deep to bring to the surface and pop. I generally know better than to pick, but the cysts were big enough that it hurt to smile. After about a week and a half, they would burst on their own. Eventually, they had to be lanced. Needless to say, they scarred.

In the fifth month of treatment, my dosage was lowered to one pill every other day, and I started taking steroids. The remaining cysts started to shrink and then disappeared, but I never stopped breaking out overall. We stopped treatment after seven months, and my skin was worse than before we started. I still broke out on a regular basis, and now my face was scarred.

For side effects, I had overall dryness, daily nosebleeds, back and joint pain (which has still continued), and hair loss. I was expecting most of this, but I'd assumed I've have clear skin once I was done.

I've given everything poor scores because of my personal experience, but it's fair to say that I'm the only person I know who reacted this way. I know perhaps ten other people who went on Accutane, and they all have beautiful, clear skin. I had some rare reaction, and it stumped my doctor. He'd been practicing for seven years when I started Accutane, and I was his first patient to react this way.

It's probably also worth noting that I'd be willing to go through another course--but only if nothing else works in the meantime, and only once I have better insurance again.

Works very well but takes a long while to kick in. (3+ months). I gave it a 4 for agreeability because of the side effects and a 3 for affordability because it sure is one expensive type of drug, especially for us Americans.

I took accutane and it really helped my skin. I wish, however, that I had taken it earlier, 'cuz now I have tons of scars, but my skin is so smooth and clear.
