I took Accutane for 3-4 months last winter on a low dosage (just 30mg) and it completely cleared me up. Unfortunatly my acne is now coming back, but not as half as before, so I'm really thankful I took it. This fall hopefully my derm will put me on my 2nd course.
Don't be afraid of going on it. All I got as side effects was dryness (lips, mostly) and some back pain...and in the end completely clear skin. It's all worth in the end.
Also don't be afraid if it doesn't start working soon, in fact for me it started by the beginning of month 3 and I completely cleare up ONLY after finishing it!

The price can be really high if you are from US and so on, but we in Italy are lucky because it's one of those medication that are paid by insurance, and it only costed me 4€ per month (about 6$).

But go for it, because IT WORKS :)

Im 16 and had acne since i was about 14. last summer my dermatologist prescribed me accutane pills as a last resort since nothing else worked and I was desperate. There were loads of side effects such as uncontrolable nose-bleeds (however this doesn't seem to be so common)and cold-sores. After about 4 months my skin had totally cleared up. Of course when i stopped taking the medication I began getting out breaks every now and then though the pimples are now much smaller and easy to get rid off with over the counter creams, I would recommend it to anyone because it saved me from a huge depression. Thanks accutane I've been able to put my life back together :)

I took it when I was 15 during the summer and it wasn't too bad. My lips got chapped but I just used chapstick twice a day and it was fine. I had to go on a low fat diet but that wasn't a big problem.
The thing that really sucked was when my knees hurt when I played sports. Anything faster than a walk hurt. It was really expensive. I was on it for 5 and a half months. 2 Pills a day at 6 dollars a pill. It ended up costing thousands of dolars. It did clear up my skin though. i still have a little left but I'm on differin for that.
If my face ever gets worse I would definetly go on Accutane again. I think the small inconveniences was worth the results.

I'm 15 years old, 16 in a month, and have had acne for almost 4 years now. I've been on Oratane for the past six months. Before I had acne I had frequently become depressed, however that had recently cleared up. My skin is fantastically clear, but if I forget one pill I get at least one pimple - leading me to believe that it will all come back as soon as I go off it. Four months of clear skin to me is bridging on not being worth the awful pain of loneliness. I'd recommend it certainly, but if you've got a history of depression, think twice.

I took accutane twice. The first time, it was great while i was on it, i had perfect skin. when i stopped, my acne came back, so i took it again. same thing, while i was on it, great, then as soon as i stopped, i started breaking out again. it was still definatly the best thing i could have done though, because my acne isn't nearly as bad, and it helped a lot to fade acne scars i had.

I've been on Accutane 3 times and each time it has helped my acne for a couple years but I've also experienced a strange side effect each time that starts with the Accutane and lasts for several years after. I think it causes dryness/thin skin around my vagina which makes friction from sex really hurt (like there is pain/burning after sex for days). (Birth control pills like Diane-35 or Yasmin can increase dryness making things worse too.) I've been checked a million times for other causes-- yeast, infections, etc. No go on those and it was suggested I have Vulvodynia (chronic pain of the vulva) which has been linked by anecdotal reports to Accutane which caused the extra sensitivity of the skin/parts down there. I think I just traded clear skin for no sex and it's not a good trade :(
