Pros Completely cleared my skin
Cons Dry skin, headaches
Bottom line Took for 6 months. I didn't see any real improvement until my 4th month on it, but if only I could show you a before and after pictures, you would be amazed. The week I stopped my dry skin and headaches ceased and my skin was left clear and unblemished. Bottom line is simple, the side effects are a small price to pay for the amazing things this drug can do to your skin.
Price paid $110.00

Pros Dry Skin
Cons Headaches
Bottom line I am 27 and have had cystic acne since the age of 12.My breakouts are not all over my face but a few nodules deep under my skin.Unfortunatly they swell and can be extreamly painful, some times so presistant they require surgery. When I was 18 I started seeing a dermatologist and he perscribed Azaelic cream, it did nothing. After 25 I noticed my skin starting to scar, that is when I foud a better dermatologist. After numerous topicals and perscriptions I started accutane treatment three weeks ago. Dry skin is the greatist thing ever. I am dealing with three cysts at the moment but I am not oily at all. I get all excited about using chap stick, a thing that would have broken me out big time in the past. I have been having headaches behind my eyes in the morning, but that is the only side effect so far, besides the peeling skin on my face ears and scalp,a little gross, but ok. Hopefully it works for me I am keeping my fingers crossed, and I guess my insurance covered it only $15.
Price paid $15.00

Pros It worked for a few years
Cons hated the side effect -- peeling lips. And the acne came back after a few years
Bottom line Sure this is the "big gun" of acne treatment. But my Dr. told me that about 50% of the people get acne again -- I did a few years later. Started slow, but came back as before. He suggested a higher dose (yikes!). I found that Paula's Choice products control my skin better, and after the mixed results with accutane, I prefer that route.

Pros This truly is a crazy drug, it works wonders and you can automatically feel like your getting somewhere the moment you start taking the pill. By my 3rd month my skin, although flaky and bleeding sometimes, was as clear as day! My confidence too.
Cons The bleeding of the mouth, the mood swings and emotional side of it, having to take birth control along with the accutane, the flaky skin everywhere, nose bleeds, muscle aches, and my acne came back 5 months later just the same as before.
Bottom line If you want something to help, at least for a little while not caring about anything else do this. Its not cheap, its not fun, its a horrible drug for your body, but for a small period of time it does clear your skin.
Price paid $300.00

My acne was extremely mild until I turned 19 two years ago. I woke up one morning at university to find I had two huge fluid-filled lumps on each side of my face. It freaked me out and from that point I became obsessed about my skin. I then started to get under the skin acne which although not huge was very painful and I found it difficult getting to slep at night. I also had mild acne on my back which I attributed to weight training and getting sweaty. I tried B5 after reading good things about it on the net but back then I expected everything to be a 'quick fix' and didn't stick with it.
I then tried the Clear Skin Regimen after discovering this website and it really worked but I noticed that the BP had left some red marks and because I had my dissertation at uni and was working long hours I found it hard to maintain any kind of regimen so went to my doctor to look for a solution. I took plunge for roaccutane.
It worked extremely well but if you were like myself a few years ago and expect it to work straight away, forget it. You have to be patient and ride the storm for at least two to three months. My acne disappeared at end of month 3 (I was on 80mg/day as I am over 6ft tall with toned physique) and skin stayed that way until I finished my six month course.
7+ months after roaccutane and I have not had any major pimples in that time. Any small ones I do get go away in 2/3 days and aren't noticeable at all.
I will not lie and say accutane is all plain sailing, however. The side effects can be brutal. My lips were dry and raw and I developed dry patches at sides of mouth, my eyes stung a little, my night vision was impaired slightly, I got dry rashes on my arms and back, I was always bad tempered more than usual, the initial breakout sucked as I did get few large spots that left red marks that took months to fade completely and I was also ledt with mild Keratosis Pilaris on my upper arms from skin getting so dry which has only recently started going away. All side effects were gone after finishing course.
All in all, accutane will clear most cases of acne, my back acne is gone as result and my face acne is almost non-existant! Just make sure you use moisturiser on ANY dry skin on your body. I made mistake of thinking dry skin was good but left myself with some dry skin which only recently went away. Au Revoir x

i finished five months on accutane five months ago, and i have to say that now that its a great drug. while i was on it of course i hated it; my acne got worse, i was depressed and my skin was flaking off it was so dry. it took four months for it to work, so for those of you who are still seeing no result when you think you should have, hang in there. i had pretty bad acne, and now i have completely clear skin. all in all, accutane is a hard drug to take and will probably make your life hell for those first few months, but its well worth it.

Reaching the end of my 40g/day course and I'm really happy how my moderate acne cleared up - I just hope it lasts. Previously the only thing that worked at all for me was B5 megadosing, but that stopped working in my case after about a year. Taking Roaccutane was a bit rocky for the first few months, but I never had a breakout any worse than before I started. Compared to the benefits to self esteem side effects were minor (dry lips, rashes on arms and legs, dry nose). I'd certainly take it again if I needed to in the future and wish I'd done it sooner - i was quite put off by stories of side effects (hairloss, terrible breakouts, depression etc). Perhaps i was lucky but in my case i needn't have worried - never felt better!

I'm currently on month 4 out of 6, so I might have to change my rating after I'm done.
Side effects are okay and eased by supplements.
This is a great drug and I wish it wasn't so difficult to get on it!
TAKE VIT E - IT HELPS!!!!!! (for dry lips)

This pill is a wonder pill. I've suffered from a milder/moderate yet persistent form of acne for about 10 years and nothing has really helped me. Meds such as Serious Skin Care and Pro-Activ only kept my acne under minimal control as well as just drying and irritating my skin. Ever since I went on Amnesteem, the generic form of Isotretinoin, my skin has never looked so amazing. I haven't had any breakouts in several months, which is a first in years since beign a teenager. Plus, Amnesteem has really helped me to not be so overly oily. I'm afraid to get off this medicine though. I'm loving what it's done for my complexion and I hope it'll always remain this way.
