I was in a very deep depression when the fifth doctor I saw told me about Roaccutan. Naturally it can't work on everybody, but in my case it was just the thing! I had had non-problem skin until I turned 19 and the years after that I tried pretty much all treatment products you can buy on the market and met with several different doctors who just gave me anti-inflammatory medication, nothing against the acne itself. I've been off the medication for about eight months now and my skin is still good. Then again, I've heard many horror stories about returning acne so you never know...

I have been treated with Accutane three times in the past four years (nearly every 13 months I start the treatments again, this includes the six months of treatment they have stuck me to). My acne completely went away for up to six months after quiting the medication and then started coming back rapidly after those six months. I've been on Differin, Benzacline?, Tetrocycline, and Erythymiasin? (spellings off on a couple). This is really a pain in the butt; I don't care to go through Accutane a fourth time, there has to be other solutions.

I'm currently 20 and had acne since I was 14. Between the ages of 14 and 16 I tried many different oral and topical medications... minocyline etc... None worked. At 17 I was put on Accutane which worked wonderfully. I did have a flare up of pimples for a few weeks after starting the meds, but they died down. The side effects I experienced were dry skin, lips and eyes, joint pain and nose bleeds. The dry skin didn't worry me after having horribly oily skin for so long, but the lips did start to get a bit painful after much money spent on ointments. Currently, I still get pimples but nothing that makes me so self aware as before the Accutane.

Well let's just say that this is the best acne medication that I've ever been on. I've been on every acne med from oral antibiotics to retin-a-micro to benzoyl peroxide, you name it, and I've been on it. I had oily skin that was prone to numerous blackheads and especially whiteheads. I'd exfoliate and drink water and nothing helped until I started taking this miracle pill. My oil glands shrunk completely and breakouts were kept to a minimum. However, I've been off the pill for a week now (6 month period is over) and I've been noticing more breakouts coming back. Now hopefully these breakouts are due to lack of sleep and stress but I'm gettin worried. My skin is not oily still but I have a few breakouts right now (1 on my forhead, 3 on each side of my chin and 1 on my cheek). I'm a little bit worried about the possibility of returning acne because when I was on the pill I had beautiful skin- no oil and no breakouts. There were side effects: severely dry eyes and lips and dry skin occasionally and some fatigue. I was a little more irritable too. I never had cystic acne but I had moderate acne breakouts and this pill did wonders. Let's just hope that the acne blues aren't going to return.

Accutane completely cleared my acne everywhere on my body. As far as the side affects go there should not be any for sure side affects for anyone because everyone is different. Personally i only experienced dryness on my skin and lips. However, some people are bist against accutane because it caused them joint difficulty an depression. You have to take the chance for youself because if you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't experience the severe side affects, accutane can really chagne your life. Also, as for acne coming back while u are off accutane, that is also different for everyone. Some people, their acne will come back in a few months while other have clear skin for several years

Accutane has been close to being pulled from the market for the side effects. There have been many t.v. and print media "exposes" and coverage on this somewhat controversial product. Any dermatologist who isn't using it as a last resort is not thinking of your health first. It is a wonderful medication IF you don't get any of the side effects. It affected my joints almost immediately, I had to stop running track and abandon a state-championship-bound season as an individual, but it does work like a charm.
