Pros IVE TRIED EVERYTHING for acne. I've only been on Sotret(generic accutane) 40mg once a day for 2 weeks and my acne has already improved.
Cons dry lips, but nothing too bad, Blistex Medicated and Aquaphor work well. Chest muscle pains...? Not sure if this is caused by the medication or not..
Bottom line Had persistent acne for years but this summer I broke out soooo bad. Ive had moderate-severe acne (cystic, and all the other kinds of pimples all along my jawline, cheeks, and chin) since May. I started researching accutane. The side effects and stories scared me as Im sure it scares everyone, but the Doc said if you live a healthy lifestyle and get your bloodwork done every month its a great drug for treating acne. This medicine was really hard for me to get through my insurance and the ipledge and blood draws are a pain but I finally got Sotret early this September. I am 20 years old and I have a very small build (5'5, 110 lbs)so they started me on a low dose of 40mg once a day (start very low to get your body used to the medicine and you will have very slight and tolerable side effects. Its only been 13 days and my face is already smoother and clearer. I am still red but I am very hopeful. I can;t wait to finish my course! Ill be posting another review in a few months

Pros It cleared up my skin from the time i started. I been on it for 6months,got off of it August now its September and my skin is looking great.
Cons I still have the marks that my acne left behind but they are slowly fading. There are still times where i will wake up with a HUGE ZIT on my face...when i mean huge bigger than what i ever had, but it goes away with some BP in days.
Bottom line It helps, but takes times. You might see a pimple here and there but nothing like the time u first started it. So thats a good thing.

Pros Clear skin, clean pores, huge boost in self confidence. My marks from previous breakouts have begun fading.
Cons Dry lips, sometimes dry nostrils
Bottom line I love Accutane. It makes such a huge difference. My face is so smooth and I'm not even done wih my course! If you are worried about liver problems, take liver supplements. Everything has been going pretty smoothly for me.

Pros It def took care of my cystic acne, i didnt have acne until i was 22, i was devastated, it seem to work right away.
Cons i had most of the side effects, achey joints, severe depression, mood swings, nose bleeds, lips peeling etc. after ending my round of accutane i had laser treatments done on my face and i was flawless for about two years than i needed another round
Bottom line the bottom line. . . acne has consumed my life im now 27 and after two rounds of accutane, laser resurfacing, daily antibiotics and topical treatments im still battling this DISEASE, i really want to believe i have beautiful skin but i cant help feeling ugly everyday. ive exhausted all remedies, diet, excercise, medications, not wearing makeup, wearing makeup, lifestyle changes in general! i dont know what to do anymore. im desperate for a miracle. my poor dermatologist has become my pyschologist every 6 weeks! my face actually hurts and im depressed! is there anyone out there that feels as bad as me and as in much pain as i am?

Pros Acne cleared finally and minimal pimples since treatment stopped. Nothing and I mean NOTHING else worked. 16 years old looks human again!! Skin is clear, no scars-like my relatives and my self esteem is much improved.
Cons Extreme dryness resulting in freq and occas. long lasting nosebleeds, HUGE expense if you don't have insurance coverage (Would have been over 1000 monthly due to the very large doses I had to take) alittle bit of moodiness, dry body skin.
Bottom line Needed 90-100 mg daily (based on weight and resistance to medication). TOO expensive for private pay! Very few people could afford this amount if it was out of pocket--but my insurance was GREAT. Nose bleeds, dry skin and lips, shorter tolerance for contact lenses. All very worth the 8 months on medication because now only occas. individual pimples on face, no cystic acne and nothing on my back. My self esteem has soared. Must bear in mind the potential for birth defects and take this very seriously!!

Pros Significantly reduced oil production on face during the first 2 weeks! Half way through and praying that it rids my mild and persistant acne for good! Have tried everything, spent houndreds of dollars over the past 3 years on creams etc.
Cons Side effects are real. I have most of them but they are mild. Dry skin all over body, except face (which is wierd), change in mood (depression) but for me worth it if it clears up my skin!, slight joint pains. Will update when finished taking it!
Bottom line I am half was through my 6 journey. Skin was looking great until my dermotologist performed ance surgery to remove deeply pitted white heads under my skin, marking was not so bad until i started picking at them myself! Do not pick your face on this medicine! I have been scabbed up for 3 weeks now. I suffer from persistant (over the past 4 years) ance that would probably have cleared up by now if i never picked at it. Picking caused my pores to enlarge and capture excess serebum oil. I feel my pores shrinking while on acutane. I am a very healthy eater (natural foods only) rice, vegtables, oatmeal, lean meats, fruits, veggies etc. So acne cant be from poor nutrition! I also excersise 5-6 times per week. ALSO dont drink alcohal while on this medication. Had a friend whos husband drank while on it and started LOOSING HIS HAIR! not to mention what he did to his liver because this medicine is harsh on your liver. I would reccoment this medicine for people that have tried EVERYTHING!

Pros Got rid of the oily yuckyness on my face and skin is >C L E A R< OF ACNE! Been on it for 3 weeks now and will continue using it for 6 months =)
Cons Very dry lips soemtimes nose bleeds, thats all .
Bottom line I'm 19 years old and i tried everyacne treatment there is,differin, isotrexin,(retin a) and many many more they helped but didn't give me the results i wanted.I really recommend accutane,if your acne is annoying you and you can tolerate the cons then accutane is for you..Get on it as soon as possible before your face gets filled with scars,i just wish i had been put on accutane before the other BS.Definately WORTH IT!

Pros its does clear acne for a little bit
Cons extreme dryness and i hurt all over when i was taking it. im an active youth and the pain that it caused me in my joints made it hurt for me to even pick up a 15 pound box. its usually only a three month regimen and i took it for 4.
Bottom line My acne did clear about 85% after 2 months or so. the acne was supposed to stay mostly away and it came back within one month of not taking the medicine. i was on the yellow pill (which im pretty sure is the big daddy) I have no idea what kind of internal, long-term damage it did. hopefully it wasnt too bad. I dont think people should take this drug unless they are comletely aware of what it does.
