Hi, I had acne since i was about 15yrs old. Slowly and slowly my acne started to get worse over the years. I'm 27 now and can't remember the first time i used accutane. I was probably around 19-20 . Anyways when I first used it , it was great, and I took it for about 4-6 months and did it again after 6 months or so. I had few side affects (dry lips mostly). Cleared me up pretty good. never really got big breakouts. Well, it came back in about 1year . So went again and took it again....Then it came again like in year or 2. So went back for it again. It worked of course...so, then i was clear for about 2yrs or so. Then again breaking out.. about this time I was probably like 23 and I started having joint of my hand hurting little. Also , Made me cough up spit usually early mourning or a little through out the day. I went back like three years ago and cleared me up too. But, always had little red marks from having acne for so long. I been using everything in the supermarkets and TV products and never never works. I guess Its time to go back to Accutane. With the side affect and all , I think It is worth it. Well, my doctor usually have sample for me at the office , so I don't usually have to buy it. So I guess I have to go back as soon as I start to break out and use something to help little scars I have form acne.

This is an amazing medication! I had my first course at 14 and am on my third now at 24 - my acne is not really bad now, but I have repeat doses to regain the effects of having just come off it as it improves my self esteem. I have never had really bad side effects except dryness in my skin, lips and eyes.

Though Accutane worked very well for me and I am happy to have clear skin, I feel that the product's side effects were severe and I have a hard time recommending it to anyone. I had some minor hair loss and painfully dry skin but the side effect that I found the most severe was the major depression I suffered shortly after taking the medicine. I have known three other people who suffered severe depression (suicidaL) either while taking this medication or shortly after ending treatment. I think that the dermatologist should have warned me about this and when I told him about the side effect, he blew it off as though the depression could not possibly be related. I still believe that this medication is highly beneficial but this side effect should be more well researched and people taking it should be warned because it is potentially very dangerous.

I was on Accutane for a first series approximately 15 years ago. Had tried everything else at the time. Skin cleared somewhat but it resulted in deep scarring on my cheeks, which is where I rarely experienced any acne. Still have the scars and would never recommend this product!

Accutane was what I needed to clear up my back acne. The doctor I saw made it a point to give me low dosage over a longer period of time. Hence, I did not see much of the side effects that others warned me about, e.g., tiredness, lack of appetite etc., I think having a decent and prudent doctor helps. Am very grateful to him and this drug for clearing up my skin and allowing me to look radiant & beautiful for my wedding!

The first time I took Accutane was my senior year in high school with severe acne. It was highly irritating and worked okay. My skin was always so red and irritated it was hard to see how well it was working. I took it for about 5 months and then returned back to the typical Retin A etc. The second time I took it was a few years later and it made my hair fall out HORRIBLY. While it is one of the side effects it did not happen the first time I took it. My hair still falls out and is terribly thin. I am 26 now and I STILL break out more than normal. Like someonw else said, this is hard core medication. Don't take it unless you have severe acne.

The actuane made my acne get really bad for about 3 months then it finally began to work and it cleared my face perfectly. I took it senior year of highschool and had clear skin throughout the summer, but now it has begun to flare up again 1/3 of the way through college. I'm thinking about going back on it again.

Accutane was absolutely a blessing. i had perfect skin until it suddenly flared up. after trying topical treatments for quite some time, i was presribed accutane. it took quite a while (thought, much shorter a time than i would have normaly suffered) to fully take effect. My acne was so cysitic and painful, i'm glad it's done with. I'm still left with scars, but nothing too bad to deal with.

I finished my first Accutane treatment in 94. I was a Senior in College and was THRILLED to finally have clear skin! The only side effect I had was hair loss. I didn't expereince all of the extreme dryness everyone talks about. My hair thickened again after the treatment was over. My skin was PERFECT for 10 years. Just beautiful. I'm 33 years old now and my skin has just started to get really bad again. I've been on a few topicals and an oral anti-biotic, but just like the 6 years before Accutane, nothing is working. I'll be asking my derm to prescribe a second treatment.
