i took 2 month cycles. one in 1997 and 1 1998. It got rid of my acne alright. It also permanently altered my brain chemistery so now i have to take zoloft everyday. It also damaged my kidneys. at this point in time (2005) i have to take a three month cycle of prednisone (steroid) every 2 years or so to reduce the inflammation in my kidneys that builds up as a result of the kidney damage. I would, needless to say, not recommend accutane to anyone.

I was on accutane for about 5 months and i've got to say it actually cleared up my skin. Of course those five months consisted of chapped lips and dry skin but overall, i think it was well worth it. The only problem is, i'm worried that it might come back. That would be a huge blow to my self esteem. As of now, my skin is clear and am glad that i went on accutane.

I started getting acne at 8. Way too yung. I suffered from horrible self esteem and deformative acne. I trried everything minocyclen tetracyclene, doxycyclene, retina , benzoyle peroxice. Nothing worked. I just felt all the nasty side effects.
Finally when I was 19 they gave me the accutane with much hesitation. 7 years later I am still vitually acne free! I do have a few pimples on my but and I still get pesky litlle blackheads. But the nightmare is over.

The side effects were awful. It made me mean, My lips split open and they would'nt heal for months. My bones hurt I was achey and grouchy all the time. Lots of heavy mood swings. I do worry about the long term effects. This is a hardcore drug. There are undoubtadley trade-off involveed with taking it. some of them are unknown I'm sure.

I still would take it all over again. My quality of life is just that much better.

Okay so here's my acne story. I started suffering from severe acne during my freshman year in highschool during volleyball season. I remember being incredibly embarrassed all of the time. So, I went to the doctor and she put me on dynacin, which totally clearned it up. Throughout my sophomore year, I was good to go until the end of the year when it started getting a lot worse. So, during that time up until about midway through my junior year I was on accutane. It was fantasic, except for the fact that my lips were HORRIBLE (I remember them hurting a lot in addition to my nose bleeds). I didn't care though, it was a lot better in my opinion than being covered in acne. Six weeks after I was on accutane I was acne-free. But after six weeks, they started to come back the same as before (mid way through my senior year). I was really angry because I wanted to have clear skin for graduation, etc. but so much for that. Anyway, so then I tried going through the many different acne medications, but nothing has worked. Now it is the summer before I start college and I am sitting here with horrible acne. I am going to start accutane again in about 3 weeks. I really wanted my skin to be clear for college, but it looks like I'll have chapped lips for awhile now..I really hope it works for good this time. Please reply to my message! I need some feedback and encouragement, this sucks =/.

If you have more than just mild acne and you want ot get rid of it Accutane is the answer. I went on it for about six months and it worked wonders, it's been about a year and I've yet to see a single pimple, and that's without any other treatments/creams! However those six months were probably some of the worst in my life. Your skin becomes so dry that it gets very flaky and your lips will be in hell. I play sax, and many times my reeds would be covered in blood from my lips getting so dry they would bleed. Fortunately, after I came off Accutane my lips returned to normal, but my skin is still a little dry. If you are worried about the whole suicide thing, don't be. This stuff has been around since 1979 and there has been no real proof that Accutane casues suicide. It's just that most people who take Accutane are teenagers and teenagers commit suicide more often than most people. In fact, statistics show that suicide rates of people on Accutane are actually lower than the average teen suicide rates.
If you want to get rid of your acne for good and are willing to deal with a few months of hell Accutane is the drug for you.

Yea this product will dry you out like crazy but it works very well especially for cystic acne which i had. But id did not clear up the cystic acne on my ass at all. I dont know why it dosnt work for your ass. And when you go off of it, you will still get acne nowhere near the acne you had before. THeyr gona be small but its worth it. I DID FIND A WAY TO STOP MY ACNE FOR ABOUT A WEEK, EVERY WEEK. Since i live in FLORIDA, the beach is not very far and i can say that this worked 100% for me. I GO TO THE BEACH, SUBMERGE MY FACE IN THE OCEAN WATER( SALT WATER) and WALK AROUND AND GET A TAN ON MY FACE. This stops my acne for about a week really well. Worked every time. But you have to go to the beach every weekend to stop this which is a bummer but its worth it. I guess the ocean water since it is salty, dries out, cleans, etc and gets cured w/ a sun tan which stops acne. Im not sure if this works for everyone, but it DOES work 100% for me. Sometimes it will be like half a week where no acne shows up, then they come again, or sometimes its the hole week. ALSO i FOUND that SHAVING gives me acne as well. I always used to do clean shaves everyday or other day. I found out to do a clean shave about once a week. And on those days when i get a lot of hair, i just trim it. I ALSO use DEAD SEA MASKS, as well as washing my face w/ SOAP.

I first took accutane when i was 16. I didn't have many bad side effects, only dry skin and chapped lips, no flare ups at all. But they were easily managed with moisteriser. I was totally cleared in about six months. I was fine for about three years, and then it slowly came back. I went on it again, and again the same effect. It is now another three years latter, and my acne has started coming back. So here I go, back on accutane for a third time. I'm now 23. I am hoping it will be third time lucky, and my face will stay clear. If it doesn't after that, I'm just going to give up and accept that I'm meant to have acne. Maybe as I get older, my oil glands will stop producing too much oil. I'm not sure, because I know people who are like 40 and still have acne. But I guess If accutane doesn't work this time, I'll just have to accept my fate. Here hoping it will be third and final time!
