Pros It's been about 30 hours since I received my first Fraxel treatment, the non-ablative procedure. The pain level was very low, but I had a local infiltrating anesthetic in addition to the numbing cream. The recovery is not bad at all, and the redness and swelling did not prevent me from going out in public.
Cons I had a long wait (almost 2 hours) in the waiting room, so I got rather anxious. Then the numbing and injections took another 3/4 hour. Applying ice packs every hour after the treatment interfered with my activities, but it helped a lot with the redness and swelling.
Bottom line I had an experienced and excellent dermatologist. I have minor adult acne, and scarring for moderate to severe acne I had as a teenager. I had 6 passes for this first treatment. On a pain scale of 1-10 (with 10 being extreme pain, and 1 being barely no pain), the pain level was about a 1 for the first 2 passes and about a 2 for the next 4. Piece of cake. The most irritating thing for me was the puffy face that I had for a few hours, with the peak of it coming between 10 and 18 hours after the treatment. But right now (30 hours after the procedure), the swelling is minimal, and I don't have the puffy feeling. The redness is not bad either. The downtime is basically a non-issue. I will be back in 4 weeks for Treatment #2. I don't see much downside to this procedure, and I am confident that I will see results. I recommend you get injections in addition to the numbing cream for the non-ablative procedure.

Pros amazing , skin looks plump and fresh and really nice after just one treatment.
Cons I really can't say anything bad. It was stinging at first and the first two days were swollen but the third day was really not so bad. Today just 11 days later i look great!
Bottom line I have had one treatment and will have two more and at $800 a session I say it was worth every penny! The scars I had on my face were rolling scars and they are about 60% improved already. I took some medicine to prevent breaking out a day before and the day after and used some sunblock from Image skin care and thanks God it really worked. I would say it was a good idea. I had really bad acne when I was younger and I had acutane which stopped the breaking out but the scars remained which I hated. Now I can feel good about myself again. No more hiding in certain types of light.

Pros reduced visibility of acne scarring, self confidence bulider, even tone of skin.
Cons price, redness, pain, getting your doctor to raise the laser setting, comming to grips with the fact that results take time to see while you are shoveling out thousands of dollars that you really could be using to do something else with.
Bottom line three weeks after my first fraxel treatment, I noticed a 30% reduction in my acne scarring. I just had my second treatment today and I am awaiting to see results. It will be about three weeks before i will see the results but I will keep everyone informed. I had my first treatment at a level 6 at 40mj. My second was at level 7 at 40mj. I could still talk as i was being fraxeled so I am going to request a level 9 at 50mj for my third session.

Pros none
Cons High cost, painful treatment, unpleasant recovery, did not improve my pores or scars, and left little pin-prick sized holes all over my face
Bottom line After 3 courses of Accutane over a decade ago, I had 2 Fraxel restore treatments at the highest intensity. One month after the second treatment, I notice tiny pits all over my skin where the lasers were, which gives it a bumpy texture. My pores have shrunk minimally, but my scars almost seem deeper after the treatments.

I've noticed that my skin heals much more slowly after the Accutane treatments. My guess is that because of the drugs I've taken in the past, my skin does not respond to Fraxel laser trauma by healing itself. It just gets further damaged.

I'm going to visit my doctor before having a third treatment, because I read someone else's review stating that Fraxel after multiple Accutane courses also left them with damage.

Pros worked on my scars perfectly... over all my skin looks and feels better.
Cons pain while getting the treatment. the redness and the puffy face for the next few days. and this time, i am hating the break out and the white acne factor all over my face!
Bottom line i see result on my scars on my face... i guess i am doing restore.! the first two times were painful and i was puffed up for a good 5 days. this time i got really bad acne all over my face. little white dots and some are painful! it's not infection!
over all i loved it... i am 29 and my skin looks like when i was 15! beautiful, flawless... i am just concerned about the price... i wont be able to repeat a 4th session!

Pros didn't really hurt with numbing cream, little down time
Cons price, swelling for two days
Bottom line I only had one treatment and see about a 20% improvement. At 800 a treatment, I think I might do one more. I wish the results were greater....

Pros Overall skin tone is better.
Cons At least a week downtime -4 weeks after 2 treatments scars are still visible but better.
Bottom line My complexion is olive (Hispanic), so finding someone who has experience with people of color is essential. Pain is tolerable but everyone's threshold for pain differs. I'm not unhappy but anxious to see final results. My third treatment is scheduled for tomorrow 10/22/09 and for me the worst part is being stuck at home for 3 to 5 days. I'm not ashamed to say I do have to use a make up (purchased at local drug store) to hide discoloration for at least a week.. I'll keep you updated. I do not want to use this treatment 4/5 times. I'm done!! The verdict is still out.

Pros I had approximately a 75% reduction in the melasma after my first treatment...will review after my second. I intend to do at least 5.
Cons Down time...swelling...peeling...redness. About the same as a moderate PCA or TCA peel would be...
Bottom line I have yet to see results...although I understand the first visable signs that it works comes after you heal from the third one. I will say it is painful but with help the pain is tolerable. I have read some of these reviews and see some reactions I have experienced in the past...Cindy in Florida was describing a heat rash I also experienced this when I was doing too many chemical peels...your skin is reacting and the best thing to do is cover...and I mean cover it with a hydracortizone cream, you can purchase it at any drug or department store, if your not sure...ask the pharmacist. Also some women were complaning of lines and marks...that is caused by an inexperienced technician...I had a close friend that ended up with these burn marks...her skin did improve over the next few months.but she immediately stopped going to that tech. Bottom line this thing works...I've seen it and most results are noticed about 2-3 months after the last treatment. So hang in there, I am

Cons downtime of more than 7 days
Bottom line definitely worth it!

but be sure to do more than 2 treatments for more visible results and have a friend standby while the doctor does the fraxel passes so your friend can point to the doctor more acne scars to get your money's worth.

Pros The emotional anticipation of a beautiful face
Cons Pain of treatment, down time, cleansing routine, cost, hyperpigmentation, still have scars!
Bottom line I love my doctor, but the Fraxel Repair was not for me. It was the first one in the Midwest, and I thought what the heck; I've tried everything else. I got greedy and had my eyes and neck done too. Big mistake. My eyes look worse with wrinkels, and scars under my eyes and I still have a demarcation line on my nexk after a year an a half. This was a one time shot, and the pain was enourmous. I have severe acne scars, and most are still there and now I'm dealing with hyperpigmentation too. The down time was close to two weeks washing with water and vinegar every 2 hours. The swelling lasted a couple of months. If your thinking about the Fraxel laser I would start with one of the other 2 lasers as the Repair did more damage to me than help.
