The Acne.org Regimen

I used benzoyl peroxide for years. If only
someone had told me to use it this way.

Finding your Regimen supplies

For years all of us on the Regimen used large brand name products, but they can be quite expensive and not always ideal. I lobbied the large brand name companies to make us larger size products and to make a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide in gel form, and got friendly responses but little in the way of action. So I decided to make larger, and more cost effective products for us myself. While I was at it, I made them higher quality and less drying so they would work specifically for the Regimen. People normally see faster and better results with Acne.org products. However, not everybody can order online so I've made sure to also recommend some good alternatives.

Gentle Cleanser

  • Size: 16 oz.
  • A month's supply: Quarter bottle
  • Monthly price: about $2.40

My comments: I made this cleanser specifically for the Regimen. It is ultra gentle, fragrance free, and lathers well. It also works well as a non-comedogenic shampoo and body wash. Only available online.

  • Size: 8 oz.
  • A month's supply: Half bottle
  • Monthly price: about $2.75

My comments: Mild cleanser which lathers well. My big beef is the strong fragrance. Available online and in stores.

2.5% benzoyl peroxide

  • View Ratings: 4.4 out of 5
  • Size: 16 oz.
  • A month's supply: Quarter bottle
  • Monthly price: about $8.00

My comments: This is the product that started it all. You guys wanted me to make a huge 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel so here it is. I made sure to make it gel based, pharmaceutical grade, and as affordable as possible per ounce. Only available online.

  • View Ratings: 3.5 out of 5
  • Size: 0.75 oz.
  • A month's supply: 4-6 tubes
  • Monthly price: about $35.00

My comments: This is the only widely available 2.5% benzoyl peroxide on store shelves. I used it for years, and it will work fine, but it is cream based which makes application challenging. It also tends to turn white when you perspire and is expensive per ounce. Available online and in stores.

Moisturizer

When not in the sun When in the sun
  • View Ratings: 3.9 out of 5
  • Size: 16 oz.
  • A month's supply: Quarter bottle
  • Monthly price: about $4.85

My comments: Making a perfect moisturizer is incredibly challenging. I went through 66 iterations and finally came out with this one. It is my favorite moisturizer that I've ever tried, although it's still not completely perfect. I am always reformulating it and it will evolve into something closer to perfect as we go. It has an extremely light feel, it's non-comedogenic, fragrance free, and takes care of flakiness well. Only available online.

I used to recommend Olay Complete for Sensitive Skin, but Olay switched the active ingredient from zinc oxide to avobenzone in July, 2009. I've tried 5 avobenzone moisturizers in the past and each time I've broken out. It could be the avobenzone or it could be avobenzone's stabilizing ingredients that affect my skin negatively, but regardless, avobenzone based moisturizers have proven to be a poor option for me. I have heard similar stories from several of you regarding avobenzone based moisturizers. So, the next best choice I see is Eucerin Everyday Protection moisturizer. The ingredient panel doesn't look perfect, but it may work in the interim until I can make an SPF for us myself.

Important: To achieve total flakiness control, mix in 5-6 drops of jojoba oil upon each application with SPF.
