| Pros | Some improvement in skin |
|---|---|
| Cons | Stomach problems still persist 10 years after I took this. Constant coughs, colds and sore throats while I was taking it. |
| Bottom line | I am thirty now. Took this for roughly two years from late teens into early twenties. I still suffer mild/moderate acne with occasional bad outbreaks but would not ever consider taking this drug again. My acne did not clear up completely while taking this but I guess there was some improvement. What I can say is that the night I first took this the stomach cramps started. I ingored them because I was desperate for a solution. I have suffered serious trouble with my stomach ever since. My immune system also basically collapsed while I was taking this. My 2 cents worth - Try it if your doctor thinks it would suit you and other drugs have not worked. But if you start getting stomach issues stop immediately. |

| Pros | Didn't upset my stomach, no real side effects. I took this for years, it always seemed to have a moderate impact. |
|---|---|
| Cons | When I stopped taking it I didn't notice any difference in my skin so maybe it wasn't actually doing anything. I don't really like the idea of being on an anti-biotic long-term. |
| Bottom line | It was alright, but it didn't do much. |

| Pros | Spots are considerably smaller and a lot less red. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Skin is slightly more greasy which causes more blackheads sometimes, but i use a gentle daily exfoliator to keep them at bay. |
| Bottom line | I was really unhappy about my skin, and being 14 and at school, having bad skin isnt good for confidence.. so during the six weeks holidays i went to the doctors and asked for something stronger (i was on doxycycline) and she gave me erythnomycin, two, twice a day, on the NHS its free until a certain age, but i hope my acne has gone by then. I've been on them for nearly 5 weeks now and have seen an improvement, smaller and less spots that are a lot less red. Although, i think my skin is a bit more greasy, but i use a daily gentle exfoliator from neutrogena (sp?) which helps with scars too. I cant wait to get rid of all my acne, back, sholders/arms, chest, neck and face and have that porcalain-perfect look haha .. Plus, it should be taken with or after food to prevent stomach pains, i dont get them at all. I hope this helped, good luck everyone.. |

| Pros | - Works pretty quickly- saw some results after just 3 or 4 days - Hasnt caused major dryness- slightly dry lips but dealt with using vasoline - More success than other antibiotics that ive used |
|---|---|
| Cons | - Doesnt help with red marks (but do any meds help with this?) - Can give me an upset stomach every couple of days and very slight diarrhoea but nothing major - Must be taken with food or almost guaranteed to feel sick afterwards |
| Bottom line | Im happy with this. Oxytetracycline did nothing for me a few years ago. Lymecycline worked for about 6 months then overnight just stopped working. But ive been on Erythromycin for about a month now (including a 10 day break) and my moderate acne has cleared up nicely. Not perfect but no major breakouts and just the odd whitehead here and there. Far less inflamed too. As I said in the cons it has given me a slightly upset stomach every now and then and very light diarrhoea but its not a problem as its only once or twice a week for an evening or something. So yeah overall I recommend it for those with mild-moderate acne. |

| Pros | Did reduce redness pretty immediately; however, did not remove completely. |
|---|---|
| Cons | No effect on my acne whatsoever. Had diarrhea at least every other day. |
| Bottom line | I have a lot of redness in my face, blackheads/stubborn pimples on my nose and chin. I noticed an improvement in regards to redness right away, but even that didn't become anywhere near NORMAL levels. I tried it for about five weeks-at that point, I was getting diarrhea almost every day, with no change in my acne at all. The full prescription was two months, but it didn't seem wise to take an antibiotic for that long...especially with no results along the way. Would not recommend! Do your research-there are a lot of serious possible side effects from taking this drug (deafness, palpitations, etc). |

| Bottom line | I've known people who it has worked wonders for. Give it a go :) |

| Pros | Kept skin pretty clear |
|---|---|
| Cons | Skin becomes resistant to the product |
| Bottom line | In high school I was prescribed Erythromycin pads by my doctor -- however my acne wasn't very terrible and I feel like if I had never started using them, my skin wouldn't be as bad as it is now. I used them for about two years, stopped for one year, and then tried them for another year. My doctor warned me my skin may become resistant to the medicine and it definitely did. My acne has gotten progressively worse. It worked for a short period but definitely don't plan on keeping with it. I think you could find better stuff out there for your skin. |
