Ok, I got my Doxycycline one month ago and I love it! I would first like to start off by saying that I am using this in conjunction with two other acne treatments: Sodium Sulfacetamide lotion, and the Noxzema moisturizing facial wash.
I started noticing my acne back in the 7th grade. It was the occasional zit here and there, you know nothing serious. Then about the beginning of my freshman year in high school it started to get worse and worse. So, to combat this problem I used "Acne Free," a competitor to Proactiv. I'll be honest folks, that s*** made my skin worse than it already was! That, I believe is the reason why I have bad acne now.
To make a long story short, I got some Doxycycline to help clean up my face after being teased and made fun of. Yeah, it sucked. A friend of mine told me about Minocycline (sp?) and how well it had worked for him. I did some research on Acne.org (duh) and I came to the conclusion that Doxycycline was the best oral anti-biotic I could get. From what my doctor said, it was safe, gentle, and most of all effective. I would now like to say this very important thing: don't under any circumstances let your doctor with a prescription fetish over prescribe you! They only do it for the perks the drug companies offer them.
Alright, lets talk about the pill itself. As far as the side effects go, I did notice some yet they were very minimal. I noticed stomach pains from taking the Doxycycline when I didn't eat a good meal with it or drink enough water with it. The solution: drink about two to three cups of water and take the pill after you eat a decent meal. After I started taking Doxycycline, I noticed superb results. The redness on my face gradually started to dissipate and the cysts on my cheeks are almost non-existant now.
I would recommend Doxycycline to anyone and I cant wait to see what results will come in the next few months!

I highly don't recommend Doxycycline, especially if you ever plan on being in the sun more than five minutes. I was on it for about a month, when it started to sink in and my acne began to clear up. However when I was sitting in the sun of a stadium one day, i could feel the skin on my face, chest, and hands start to burn. And it wasn't a normal hot sun, it felt like an actual sun-burn. The areas became really red instantly, and as week past, my hands swelled up and became purple from a horrible rash by the sun. I finally figured the only thing that could cause it was the doxy, so I went to my dermatologist and he said Doxycycline is the acne drug most prone to sun allergic reactions. I was taken off the drug, and am glad, because it also caused horrible upset stomach pains every time I took it.
