1) One of these a day for a long period of time won't give you perfect skin. Even increasing to 2 a day didn't do it for me. My left cheek and chin are my biggest problem areas. Red, inflammed, visible past breakouts, cycstic, it's hideous. 2) GOD HELP YOU if you run out unexpectedly. When I didn't take it for 2 days, MY SKIN EXPLODED WITH THE WORST ACNE I'VE HAD IN YEARS. Because doxycycline only SURPRESSES the acne causing bacteria and doesn't eliminate it, there is a great possibility that it can erupt and REPOPULATE very quickly if not taken. 3) EAT YOGURT with LIVE-ACTIVE CULTURES! (Not to be taken WITH doxy). Antibiotics not only kill the harmful bacteria, but the good ones too! 4) I've tried EVERY DRUGSTORE BRAND out there to clear up my acne, with pathetic results. Battling acne for 5 years now, I'd become helpless to advertisments promising a clear and beautiful complexion. They don't work, or at least not fast enough with effective results. YOU KNOW WHAT WORKS? I WILL TELL YOU BECAUSE IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE AND I WANT IT TO CHANGE YOURS TOO. After washing my face, I use a cotton ball to apply BRAGG's ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR to my problem areas (great for spot treatment too with an ear swab). TALK ABOUT RESULTS! It stings a bit, that's why I recommend diluting it with water, but YOU WON'T BELIEVE YOUR EYES! It's been a couple days now and I couldn't be more satisfied with the progress. SO CLEAR! SO GLOWING! SO SMOOTH! Drying of the skin may occur (DON'T FORGET TO DILUTE WITH WATER TO REDUCE THE IRRITATION), but I'll take some flakey skin over ugly, red, inflammed bumps! It's also DRASTICALLY reduced the REDNESS of past breakouts! It's a miracle product really. Mother Nature really does know best. What do you have to lose?

This was the first medication that my dermatologist put me on. I was told to take two tablets of doxycycline per day (once in the morning and once at night), along with applying benzaclin (benzoyl peroxide + clindamycin gel) in the monrning and .0025% Tretinoin at night. I took the doxy for a few months, and it was admittedly terrible. I got very bad sunburns on my face, and it remained throughout the duration of my first doxy perscription. The first knuckles on my index and middle fingers became very red, enough so that the dermatologist asked if she could get some other doctors to show them one of the effects of doxy. On my face, I never really noticed any major improvements, although I guess it was hard, what with having sunburns every day. My back and chest were drastically improved, however. Anyway, after I saw her on that visit, she immediately got me off of doxycycline and perscribed me minocycline. Minocycline was alright; I just had to make sure that I was drinking enough. However, my back and chest acne came back and did not go away. Just this past month, I went back to the dermatologist, and she tried something else on me. She perscribed benzclin just like before, and 60 100Mg capsules of doxycycline. But this time around, she told me to only take one capsule a day. She also said that it could have been the tretinoin causing my sunburns but she limited my doxy intake just to be sure. As of yet, I've had almost no reaction with the sun, but things aren't getting much better at the same time. Hopefully I can change my other topical applications; for instance, not using Noxzema as they contain alcahol and start using Stridex, or better yet, Cetaphil.

I have just started taking this today and after reading some of this i am really scared now about rashes from the sun and allergies and purple swollen faces and hands. i took my FIRST dose of it this morning and thought i would do a little research.
i was on accutane a few years ago for deep, painful, cystic acne, that had not responded to any other treatments. i was on it for a year, gradually building to 85 mg a day. it cleared my skin up GREAT, it was the best thing ever, and i had minimal side effects. in fact my skin continued to clear and my scars continued to improve for months after i my course of accutane was finished.
but now, 5 years later, my acne has come back. it is the smae, cystic, but not as much of it, and only on my face now. still, i am older now and working and dont want to deal with bad skin anymore and i am desperate. i am using doxy now bc of different insurance policy. otherwise i would have just done another round of accutane.
im nervous about the doxy side effects i have read here, and i will talk to my dr. and see what he thinks.
what are some foods that people have had success with taking the drug with? i read dont take "mineral/calcium-based foods" before taking... i have no idea what this means other than dont take it with calcium - milk or ice cream... what should i eat? my stomach is very sick right now but i took it on an empty stomach....
