Pros I have taken doxycyline for almost 3 months and I am just starting to see a slight improvement.
Cons I have had the nausea. One night I puked for hours b/c I took it on an empty stomach. It kinda makes me sleepy too. I havent seen much improvement.
Bottom line Its been almost 3 months of taking doxy. 100mg 2x day and using RetinA micro at night. I am still peeling/dry/redness. Not much improvment. I really thought that after 3 months my skin would look great, but not the case. When I take my makeup off, my family is like "oh my gosh what happend to your face?? that medicine must not be working!!" Im like, yeah no kidding!! This sucks. I go back to the Derm. in 2 weeks. We'll see what he has to say.

Pros Cleared up acne within a month. Acne free for 5 years. People with clear skin even commented they wished they had skin like mine! Affordable
Cons Nausea if taken on empty stomach. Cannot take with milk.
Bottom line I had really bad acne when I was 13 on my face and back and this really worked for me. It cleared up all my acne within a month. I took it for 5 years because I was afraid my acne will come back again and during that time, my skin was as soft and smooth like a baby and I never need to wear make-up at all. My friends who had clear skin even said they wish they had skin like mine!I never had any side effects with the drug even sun sensitivity maybe because I always apply sunscreen and I never go sun tanning. However recently I seem to have breakout again. I think the acne has become resistant to the drug. I'm trying minocycline now. But this drug really works! Its a wonder pill for me for the last 5 years because I was acne free! Highly recommended!

Pros Completely cleared up my acne -- I wasn't breaking out at all while on it. I was on it for three months and after the first couple weeks probably only had three or four pimples the entire duration.
Cons Doctor took me off it during the summer and moved me to a cream as she said that it can cause skin sensitivity and severe sunburn during the summer. I started breaking out again once off it.
Bottom line Worked great for me, no side effects. It was great not having to worry about my skin at all.. just take a pill when I got up and went to bed and enjoy 100% clear skin. Insurance covered it 100% so it was quite affordable. =)

Pros Super cheap. Through my insurance got this stuff for about $5.
Cons Nausea when taken without food, however was told that taking it with food or milk decreases the absorption. dry, flaky, itchy skin and scalp.
Bottom line Worked well sometimes but was such an on and off again thing. One month it seemed to clear me up fairly well but at the same time my skin felt ultra tight and uncomfortable. Then I would break out, get super flaky and no matter how much moisterizer I applied it was never enough.
**I'm really more of a YES&NO recommend. Some where in the middle of the road. It did seem to work well sometimes but in the long run, I had to quit using it because the dry itchy scalp bothered me. I mean why add another problem to my life**

Pros I only suffered slight upset stomach, no other side effects
Cons Made my acne worse than ever!! unless it was pure coincidence, as i had changed nothing else in my life...
Bottom line Anti-biotics work differently for everyone, if something isn't working after 8 weeks. then drop it and try something else...

Pros The doxycycline began to work pretty quickly for me, without any side effects except for nausea if it was take on an empty stomach.
Cons None
Bottom line I've been off of doxycycline for about 3 months and my skin has remained perfectly clear. I've been maintaining it with clindoxyl (benzoyl peroxide solution) during the day (with sunscreen), and retin-A at nights.
Price paid $40.00

Pros None
Cons Didn't work...
Bottom line My derm assured me Adoxa would clear my skin. I was on it for 2 and a half months, and my acne just got worse.

It turned out, I had a hormone issue that was causing acne, which is why I was trying EVERYTHING and NOTHING worked.

If you have tried EVERYTHING (including antibiotic), DON'T GO ON ACCUTANE UNTIL you get tested for a possible hormone prob.

1 in 20 women that suffer with acne suffer as a result of a hormone issue, so don't spend all this money on treatments when you could take medicine to balance your hormones, and you skin would clear.
