Pros: It took away all of my whiteheads. I found that when I didn't use the doxycycline part of my treatment that i got whiteheads. Reduced my overall acne greatly. (Great for a year!) Cons: Stops working after a while, about a year for me. Now I get whiteheads even if i use it. Makes you sick if you dont eat ALOT before taking it. Bottom Line: When I first started it, it made me throw up 4 times before i learned to eat alot of food before taking it. It worked really well for the first year and now it's not working. Pros: it cleared up most of my acne Cons: If taken on an empty stomach, you become nauseous. At first my acne got really bad after using this antibiotic but it soon began to clear up. Pros: Cleared up most of my big acne spots I didn't experience any sensitivity to the sun or nausea when I took it without food Cons: Still had small whiteheads and redness Made my skin MUCH worse during the first 1-1.5 months, leading to bad scarring Took a while to work Bottom Line: Doryx (150 mg/day) did wonders for my severely infected facial acne, however I did not even begin to see result for about 7 weeks. After that, bam! all of my big breakouts and cysts disappeared within a week. Don't give up on this product if you don't see results within 6 weeks (the standard amount of time that people use to judge the effectiveness of a product). Also, don't give up if you break out like crazy during the first month or so. Recommended: Yes Usage: Juliet has used this item for a few months. Pros: Clears up skin Cons: Causes moderate nausea and vomiting if taken on an empty stomach. Still causes mild nausea if taken with food. Bottom Line: My dermatologist thinks I have perioral dermatitus (I don't agree because I have white heads, not red bumps) but she prescribed doxycycline because she said it treats both. I am taking 100mg twice a day for a month with a second month if necessary. I wish it were only once a day because I tend to forget to take it. I've made the mistake of taking a pill and then forgetting to eat breakfast with the result that when I do eat, it makes me nauseous. One time 30 minutes had passed and I drank a Slim Fast and promptly threw it back up. I then ate some rice cakes and was able to keep those down. I have also gotten nauseous when I take the pill right before I eat. The best way to do it (with still a little nausea) is to eat and then wait a while before you take the pill (hence why I forget to take it). Also, make sure it is solid food, like crackers or a granola bar. Pros: Works well assuming the medication is taken daily as indicated on the label. Acne inflammation/irritation substantially decreases throughout the course of 2-3 days since beginning of treatment. Noticeably clearer semi-acne free skin with in 5-8 days. Cons: As this medication causes mild nausea and upset stomach (when taken on an empty stomach) taking it with a modest meal is highly recommended. Should be taken with a modest meal crackers or bread to avoid the possibility of upset stomach or vomiting. Bottom Line: This acne treatment has strongly improved my moderately severe acne and helped keep it in control. Also this medication should be taken in the morning to mid day following a non-calcium, dairy or iron rich snack for best absorption results, and sunscreen must be used when exposing skin to direct or artificial sunlight as this medication causes thinning of the skin and will cause irritation or burning of the skin. Lastly taken before bed may cause esophagus/trachea irritation and should be avoided. Overall when taken properly and with the correct steps in mind this medication is excellent in the treatment of acne. Recommended: Yes Usage: Charles has used this item for a few months. Pros: Is helping to clear up my cystic acne together with benzoyl peroxide cream. It's easy to comply with the prescription since it should be taken just once a day. I've been using it for about a week and it's improved my skin. Cons: Makes me nauseous when I take it in the morning on an empty stomach. It's an antibiotic so it's not without potential side effects.. Luckily I haven't experienced any other side effects apart from the nausea. Bottom Line: It's working for me. If you have painful, infected cystic acne, this will probably help! If you use this in addition to a topical medication like benzoyl peroxide your pimples will likely heal faster. Pros: Cleared my acne tremendously. I do have minor zits now but its a lot better. Cons: MAKES MY SKIN SUPER SENSITIVE TO SUN. I cant get tan any more, i had an allergic reaction to the sun because of this medication. Bottom Line: Love that it cleared my acne, i am a person who likes to get a tan in the summer, but i no longer can because my skin will get burnt to the point some spots turn orange. Pros: keep acne under control no obvious side effects Cons: occasionally dry lips doesn't help oily skin stop taking it then huge breakout will happen Bottom Line: so far the most effective drugs for my body acne, I take 100mg per day. On the first month, I was cleared like 80%, but I still had cysts here and there sometimes. I've tried to stop it twice, the first time cold turkey, the second time wean off from it, but both got pretty bad breakouts afterwards. But as far as the breakout severity is concerned, I recommend weaning off from it. Been taking it for a year, no obvious side effects, but not clear either...So I'm trying to talk to my derm to switch another drug, don't wanna be on antibiotics for such a long time.
