I developed acne at age 25. At first I tried all sorts of soaps and topical gels and nothing worked. I visited my derm and he prescribed Tazorac and Duac gel. I applied it and it didn't clear up my acne. After 4 months, I went to see my gyn Dr. and he told me that I had ovarian cysts and this is what was causing my acne. He put me on Yasmin BC and it cleared up my skin within 1 week. I continued to take the Yasmin and noticed that I was moody all the time and depressed. So my Dr. prescribed Sarafem (10Mg.Prozac)and it totally took away my moodiness and am now more relaxed and happy. However, I noticed that I am breaking out now. I know the acne will go away if I stop taking the Sarafem, but I don't want to be sad. I found some Doxy that My Derm had prescribed about 6 months ago and am contimplating taking it because I don't want my body to develop a tolerance for it and become dependent on it...THIS SUCKS! I JUST WANT TO HAVE clear skin and be happy:(

I just got my perscription of doxy from my doctor but i havent taken it yet. Im a little concered because most of the people on this page have mixed feelings or are using the product with other products. My doctor told me to just take the doxy becuase my skin isnt severely broken out its more mild. Hopefully this product works for me because im a teenager and we all know how important it is to look good at 17. I start taking it tonight so ill update when i see a change. Thank you everyone for your comments, insight, and tips on other useful products, in case this one bombs!!

I 've had acne since the sixth grade and I've fought it constantly. It broke out when I went to college. I tried doyxycline and it's worked great. The reason it takes a while to work is that it is low dose. My face clears up a little more everyday. Thank goodness I can go back with a smile. It really is the best antibiotic out there.

I have been on Doxycycline for about a month now and it is working for me. I am almost 20 and although I have been dealing with moderate acne since highschool, just recently I have developed painful cystic acne. So my derm put me on this. Before i got on doxycyline, i was starting to get like 8 cysts all throughout my t-zone during my menstrual; this month i only got one on my chin, which didn't even swell up that big. While it does work for me, i don't want to take antibiotics for long. I've heard about you body building up immunities. My ultimate goal is to get on Accutane...

I have always had spots but at the age of 24 they seem to be getting worse. my doctor put me on dianette at first but this did not agree with me and i was also worried about the high risk of blood clotting so i am now on doxycycline. ive only been taking it for 6 days but my skin has got even worse and the painful rash of small pimples on my face that was managable before i took the medication has now spread to my neck and chest, its not looking too good. im worried because im going on holiday in 2 weeks and i really dont want to look like this on the beach! im hanging in there though and want to give the doxycycline enough time to work properly so fingers crossed it will finally start winning the war against my rosacea! ive read that sometimes it gets worse before it gets better, i hope this is true x

I don't want to give this medication a 5 just yet because I haven't been taking it that long, and this isn't the only thing that I use. I was on Tetracycline for a month, and my face just didn't seem to change for the better. So, once my perscription from Tetracycline had only 3 days left for me to take, I called the doctor and told him about my experience on Tetracycline. So, he put me on Doxycyline. I am amazed with the results so far!!!!!! I am 23 years old and have been battling persistant mild/moderate acne since the end of my 9th grade year. I began to develop cystic and nodular acne at 23. I would get one or two of them at the same time along my jaw line, or on my cheeks. I have tried just about everything imaginable that was otc, spa related, &/or home remedies. I am currently taking Doxy twice a day, and am applying Differin at night only. (I only apply Differin on the spots that tend to be persistant with acne- NOT ALL OVER MY FACE). Since I've been doing this, my face has one small pimple near my hair line, but my hair hides it. I don't have any bumps on my jaw line like I used to, and am pimple free everywhere else (granted that one that I just told you about)
My regimen goes like this:
A.M.-wash my face using the Exposed system (follow their directions for use)
Eat Breakfast
Take my birth control,Zinc, B&C vitamins
Wear tinted moisture SPF15 (Aveda) as my sunblock and for mild coverage. Then, I apply Neutrogena on-the-spot concealer to my problematic areas (This is oil free and has a low does of medication in it)
Lunch-
I make sure I take the Doxycycline 2 hrs after I have taken my vitamins, and also before/after I eat my lunch
Late Afternoon-
Take another Doxycyline either 2 hrs before/after I eat. Wash my face with a mild cleanser (Purpose), and then apply Differin to my trouble spots only. I take the Exposed night cream and apply it to all other areas that the Differin is not applied on.

--A mild cleanser(such as Purpose) before the use of Differin is crutial!
Once you get into a routine, it comes naturally, and isn't time consuming. (We all wash our faces)

I had a pimple outbreak last month and researched on the net for a solution and I came across doxy. It's not considered a prescription drug here so I was able to buy some over the counter (Doxy for the standards of our economy here is pretty expensive). I followed the common derma prescription and took 2 tablets a day (1 before breakfast and 1 before bed time). It took away the swelling on my pimples after a week so I can say it's pretty effective. Now I'm off of it and follow a strict regimen of washing my face 2x a day to prevent pimples from coming back.
