| Cons | -made acne worse -didn't cause me to vomit, but did bother my stomach somewhat every day -DRY SKIN -itchy skin |
| Bottom line | I was prescribed this for acne (100mg once a day for 30 days), I have four days left and I have seen no improvements in my skin. It seemed to make my acne worse (and cystic acne at that, which I have NEVER had before). I thought it was just a coincidence, but after looking up the side affects and reading other's reviews I realized I am not the only one with these problems. The skin on my eyelids and other patches on my face has also become very dry to the point where no matter how much lotion I apply, it does NOTHING and I have big flakes around my eyes. This might have been caused my sun exposure, but I haven't been doing any outdoor activities. It did make me nauseous the first few days I took it, but I never threw up. This seems to happen to a lot of people, and my dermatologist warned me of it when I started taking it. I have read to take it WITH food, and WITHOUT food, so i am not sure what to follow. I have taken many many acne medications (including being on ammoxicillin for a few years) and I've never had side affects that made me sick or made my acne worse, except with THIS medication. |

| Pros | Cheap Easy to get without insurance works slowly...but it does work |
|---|---|
| Cons | NAUSEA You must be patient to see results |
| Bottom line | I seem to be affected every summer by skin issues...beautiful all winter long...as soon as summer hits, the problems start. Doxy is easy to get even w/o insurance...most minute clinics will write a script and if you live in the south east U.S. many Publix pharmacies will fill the script for free :) The down side, as hard as it is to do, it must be taken on an empty stomach to work its full effect as quickly as possible. This could be a big deterrent for some, but trust me its worth it...(Ive taken 600mg Bactrim horsepills that did not have the nasty side effects like 100mg of this)...I was prescribed 100mg 2x per day for 30 days...reduce to once a day for the remaining 30. It only took 2 days and three doses before the Doxy had me balled up in a fetal position with nausea...The nausea will pass within an hour and probiotic pills help reduce the nausea a great deal! But nothing with milk products or high calcium content! My best advice is to take your dose when you have nowhere to go for a few hours and can lay down and rest...I highly recommend NOT taking it before going out anywhere for at least one hour! One side effect I did notice immediately though was that the Doxy raised my body temperature by 2 degrees and I was sweating bullets after the first dose! One of the listed side effects is fever, but it seemed to hit me particularly hard...It felt more like my metabolism spiked more than anything though... As far as results go, within 2 days I could see that no new spots were forming especially overnight, and thats when most people seem to be hit the hardest. Be warned though that ANY new spots that were beginning to form when you started the Doxy will run their course. This seems to be a major frustration for many people who've taken this. After two to three weeks there should be noticeable clearing....BE PATIENT! I recommend taking omega 3 oils with the Doxy as well as it will make your skin dry out considerably...especiall |

| Cons | Major cystic breakout (and I don't get cystic acne) scarring and nausea |
| Bottom line | This caused me to breakout into very bad cystic acne after 1 week, and I've never had this kind of acne. It's been over 2 weeks since I got off the doxycycline hyclate and many of the zits are still there and taking forever to heal. Some of them have caused what is probably permanent scarring. If a drug is going to cause an initial breakout, it shouldn't be so bad that it scars you for life. My dermatologist is also a jackass for prescribing it when I didn't really need it. My skin was doing OK and I just had some bumps near my hairline which would probably be gone by now anyways. This will take months to recover from. Stay away from this stuff unless your skin is already full of cystic zits and can't get any worse. |

| Pros | uh... none! |

| Cons | -Got a severe allergic reaction because I was in the sun for 45 minutes! -Everything is itchy (and I mean everything.) -Dry skin -Made my acne kinda better after the allergic reaction, but got really bad afterwards. Really bad. -I never really got better after the allergic reaction. (I'm not allergic to anything.) If I'm in the sun for even a few minutes, I start getting like goose bumps but they itch like crazy. |
| Bottom line | Its awful. I've never ever been allergic to anything and for months I blamed Tretinoin until I found out it was this. It made me extremely itchy, everywhere. Now if I'm in the sun for even a little bit, i get really itchy. Its awful. |

| Pros | -effective for moderate acne -reduce inflammation |
|---|---|
| Cons | -may cause serious nausea and vomiting if dont take with food -photosensitivity, face is more prone to sunburn, tend to make skin darker over long term -prolonged use may cause oral candidiasis |
| Bottom line | -it is temporary fix but at least it is effective while you're on it. -usual dose is 100 mg once a day for at least 3 months up to 2 years -topical bp or clindamycin may increase efficacy and reduce chance of resistance. -safe and no serious adverse effect if taken in right dose. |

| Pros | Nothing |

| Cons | Depression Made me throw up every morning |
| Bottom line | I saw no change in my acne and I took this pill for probably about four months. I was 13 when I started taking it and I made me so sick but I kept taking it hoping it would work because it was the first antibiotic i'd been on. In order to not throwup I had to drink probably a gallon of water which is impossible, and I couldnt pay attention in class, adn then one the nausea wore off I'd just be in a depression that lasted even after I stopped taking it, so yeah Don't run off to your derm asking for this one. |

| Pros | Has stopped my acne since i started taking. |
|---|---|
| Cons | None |
| Bottom line | I have had moderate acne for 15 yrs and nothing has cleared me up completly. I started taking doxycycline about a week and a half ago and i havent had a new zit since and I was in the midst of one of my worst breakouts in my life. I was waking up with 3-4 new zits everyday. I have not experienced any of the side effects people on here are complaing about. I take 100mg twice a day.I would recommend this product!! I also use a daily regimine of purpose gentle face wash, proactiv repairing lotion which is benzoyl peroxide 2.5% and purpose moisturizer with spf 15. |
