I just got a prescription for this a few days ago. Ive been on Retin-A .01% for about 3 months and it has improved my acne, but it was just taking a long time and I was still getting little whiteheads, so I went back to my doctor and he gave me doxy and Retin-A .025% (most people can't handle that concentration- but I have brown skin so it different). Anyway I may be crazy but the redness on my face dissappeared over the first night taking it (doxy). I WAS SHOCKED! Hopefully this continues. I take it on an empty stomach and I really have no side effects- probably because I drink a whole bottle of water with it. Im trying to not get my hopes up too much- but this is great so far. But this is probably due to the fact that Im taking it after 3 months on a high con. of Retin-A. And you cant rely solely on one product- because all antibiotics do is kill bacteria. You have to start with the source of acne- oil and clogged pores from improper shedding of skin cells, something that retinoids take care of.

First of all give the antibiotic time to work, because it does. Sugar contributed to my acne as well as bacteria and hormones. Cutting back on sugar while taking this helped immensely! Drink lots of water: it's good for you, clears your skin, and helps the pill disolve. Taking it with cold water makes my stomach feel kinda goozlely so I eat something carb like to offset the feeling. Being fairskinned I wear sunscreen and am tanning faster than usual since I've started taking this. Use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser and topical cream too. Keep an open mind about this doxy stuff, think positive because that can change a lot.

I was taking this for 3 months in combination with Birth Control and Tazorac and had no breakouts. I didn't think the doryx was what was keeping me clear, so I stopped and once i stopped, the acne came back. I think the cure to acne is trying a lot of products and tweaking them to fit your personal needs. In my case, i need all three of these meds to keep clear and i'm okay with that. This is an excellent med if you combine it other treatments, i belive. I wouldn't suggest this to clear moderate-severe acne. As far as the small, bacterial acne, definetly.

HOLY CRAP!! This stuff is magic! I have been on 200mg of Doxy/day, Clindamycin in the morning and differin at night. The combination has completely cleared my skin within 2 weeks. I still have some red spots/scars but those are clearing up fast as well. I highlt recommend Doxy for anyone who hasnt tried oral antibiotics yet, especially those who are struggling with off the shelf topicals that dont work.

This stuff works better for me than any other antibiotic ive tried. This is probably due to the fact that not only is doxy a broad spectrum antibiotic, it has anti-inflammatory action as well. My breakouts have become much less frequent, and the ones I do get are small, not inflamed, and heal quickly. Overall, doxy has given me clear skin. It took about 3-4 weeks to notice a significant improvement. Recently I stopped taking it for over week because I ran out of my prescription - the acne came back pretty badly - cysts and whiteheads every day. Thankfully I got another prescription for doxy - within 3 days the swelling disappeared and I haven't gotten any new breakouts since - almost completely clear. Miraculous.
As far as stomach issues - you are all right, DO NOT TAKE THIS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. You are also supposed to avoid taking it with dairy, as this inhibits its absorbtion. I think it's best to take it with a small meal - a small sandwich or some toast, not thanksgiving dinner. Particularly if you are just starting out, its in your best interest to take it with light, plain food just in case it makes you feel ill. As long as I take it with a little food, I feel absolutely fine. No problems at all.
Okay, sun issues. This has been better and worse at different times, but overall, THIS STUFF MAKES YOU EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO THE SUN. Do not ignore the warning from your doctor - use sunscreen if you are going to be exposed to any sun. Even on a sunny day in the winter. I have had some really horrible, peely sunburns on doxy. So bad that the skin on my face cracked and started bleeding. Sunscreen will pretty much solve this problem though.

Before you buy Doxycycline consider this: CVS pharmacy sells it for 49.99$ (100mg, 60 capsules). Farmer Jack pharmacy sells it for 11.50$ !!!!! I could not believe the rip-off. So happy I called around for the best price. Kroger pharmacy, as far as I remember, has it for 13.00$, and all local hospitals' pharmacies have it for a low price - around 14.00$. Be a smart shopper - check the prices first!

i'm 27 and have had acne since 16 yrs old. Been taking doxy for about 3 weeks now..........so far its really clearing my skin. no side effects either. i have moderate acne and everday woke up to a few pimples but now i get one or two in a week.
lets see what happens in the future. i took minocycline before and that worked well in the begining but a couple months later my acne came back and minocycline gave me dark spots.
best thing to reduce dark spots (hyperpigemtation) is 1000mg of vitamin C.
also cut a lemon and put in the fridge for a day then use it just on the spot.
tea tree oil works wonders to dry out pimples.
these things work great for me.. i tried apple cider vinegar ...didnt do much.
picking pimples isnt a good idea...although we have to sometimes....just pick the right ones :)
DIe acne DIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it will pass one day.........
