I've been taking 200mg/day for about 2 months now and it completely eliminated my cystic acne, although it doesn't do much for the scars/hyperpigmentation. I'm also on Taz .1% gel, but it's the Doxy that has gotten rid of all the cysts, even all the ones on my back. I usually take it on an empty stomach, and it's fine. Just dont lie down immediatelly after taking it, because then you'll be in pain. My derm just gave me another 9 months of it! I dont know if that's safe, but if I stop taking it, I'm afraid my acne will swarm back. Good luck all.

I was on Doxycycline on and off for two years. At first it worked ok. I still had some ance while on the medication. But as soon as I got off doxy my acne became really bad. So I got back on it and the problem was my body became immune to it. So if you have been taking this for awhile and are no longer seeing results I suggest switching. AND LADIES BEWARE...A nurse (not my doctor) told me that doxy can give you yeast infections and other irritations down there.

Ive been using these pills for about 6 months now. I take one a day (i was taking two) taking two made me feel really weird and bad, but now taking one i feel fine. I also use Tazorac and Clydamicine topical ointment. I still break out with acne on the lower part of my face and my nose (still have black heads on my nose but not as bad) but not on my forehead. The combo of these 3 is pretty good. I was struggling using benzoyl peroxide and salysilic acid, i tried so many products, but then when i went ot my dermatologist she helped me out a lot. CONSULT YOUR DERMATOLOGIST they may be the ones to help you.

i have been taking Doxycycline for several months now, along with Differin, both once per day. unfortunately for me, when i went to my doctor and then to the pharmacy, no one mentioned to me that taking doxy with food is important. to make a long story short, after about a month with no negative side effects, i managed to cause an esophagial ulcer to form, thanks to a doxy pill that lodged itself in my food pipe. MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU TAKE THIS DRUG, YOU TAKE IT WITH FOOD!!!
ulcers anywhere hurt. ulcers in your food pipe are impossibly painful. eating hurts, drinking hurts and swallowing hurts. imagine severe heartburn times 10. make sure you take it with food - it doesn't have to be much - every time you take it. also avoiding the sun and diary products, magnezium and a few other vitamins and minarals is recommended.
in terms of effectiveness, it hasn't done much for me at all. initially, it seemed to provide some improvement, and it seems to be okay at maintaining acne levels, but in my skin at least, it does not seem capable of wiping the acne out for good.

hmm well i agree with ...Australia. I dont get so many big ones, but i do get these tiny lumps under my skin, heaps of them. I'm going to the doctors soon, so hopfully all the bumps and lumps will be gone soon!

My mild was acne gone completely after almost a month. It went away over time. I stopped taking it and a week or so later it's coming back. I really need the stuff back (prescription lasted only 2 months :[ )
It seems more effective if taken before bed... at first it might make you feel a little funny if you lie down, so... good luck to you all.
oh yeah, it's about 4$

ive had acne since the end of 6th grade. i am in 8th grade now, and have tried minocycline (which didnt work AT ALL) and then doycycline WHICH DOEsNT WORK EITHER. I took it for the past 7 months.........barely any change. Now i am accutane, started 3 days ago. I hope it really is a miracle drug because it makes you break out really badly in the beginning. I know how you all feel, doesnt it suck........

I was on Doxycycline for approximately 3 weeks to combat perioral dermatitis. This stuff worked great of my face. However, like a few other posters I developed sunburn on the back of my hands that eventually turned into a horrible rash. I probably let it go on to long because this stuff worked so good on my face, I was hoping the rash would go away. My advice would be to get of this stuff immediately if you get a severe sunburn on the back of your hands. I even had sun block of 50 on and it just would not help.

I was rather sick with a cold, flu, and whatever I had. After a couple weeks, I went to the doctor. He prescribed doxy, and everything cleared up almost immediately. I was back to normal. I am ill again with what feels like the same illness described above. I started on doxy. I am already feeling better. I say it really works for me!!
